L'Eau De Corse Cologne

The scent is dominated by bitter orange, which, after a few minutes, is joined by a sweet note of myrtle and labdanum. These remain in the background, supporting the bitter orange note. The fragrance is pleasant and masculine, best suited for spring and summer daytime wear. However, I do not recommend buying this fragrance. It does not last at all. I applied six sprays to my neck, and after just one hour, I couldn't smell anything. I then sprayed it again on my arm, and the same thing happened—after an hour, the scent had completely disappeared. The projection is also very poor. It projects a little for the first 30 minutes, and then for the rest of the hour, it sits close to the skin. Do not buy this one. It used to be sold as a cologne concentration, but the company recently repackaged it into their Eaux de Parfums line and increased the price. I wouldn't recommend it even at its original cologne price—now it's simply overpriced for what it offers. Edit: I let this one macerate for a while, and the performance has improved significantly since my first review. The projection and longevity is now moderate, which is acceptable for a warm-weather fragrance. However, the company has raised the price yet again — it now costs €180, which is excessive for something that used to be around €100 for 200 ml. If you’re after a great vintage-style masculine scent for warmer months, only consider it if you find it on sale. It’s definitely not worth the full retail price.

Was not sold on this one at first — after a small spritz I wasn't sure why you would pay for this over other citrusy scents (eg. 4711, even various verbenas). However (!) having tried again, this time spraying it much more liberally, I like it: the immediate fragrance has the astringency and sharpness of actively peeling an orange, which lingers for a few minutes, at which point some of the sweetness and floral notes begin to appear. Strictly a summery orange, as opposed to some orange scents which could evoke the colder months (pomanders, mulled wine, etc.) There is some complexity here... I certainly like it more than most Oriza fragrances (out of the six I have tried, this and Relique d'Amour agree the most with me, for entirely different reasons). That being said, it's not an immediate "go out and buy the full bottle" scent. I'm still stuck on some of the cheaper citruses available, which are less complex but have always worked for me.

A fleeting yet pleasant companion for warm summer days. The citrus notes are green and sweet- fresh and bright. This is a simple creation, with quite a “modern” feel (in the sense that this note profile is widely used in newer fragrances as well), and somewhat unlikely to appear in Oriza’s collection, but it thankfully retains a background note of Oriza’s signature calming and serene DNA.

That opening note is like a punch to the face from a fist full of orange skins. It dries so beautifully though, into some expensive orange candy. There's something nostalgic here.

L'eau de Corse, a recreation of a cologne from 1937. ...but are all the notes listed here? The opening, smelled blind, immediately made me think of a splendid bergamot et lavande fine, ...but neither are listed, ...though I still suspect they're in the mix somewhere. I suppose the listed notes of orange and myrtle (presumably the flower, not leaf), may be another route to a similar profile, hmm? That orangewood note seems to be an accord with more orange plus various woods. One source lists cedar, patchouli and sandalwood. Another suggests petitgrain and amber, which would also explain the labdanum. I suspect this latter recipe may be closer to the truth. As the drydown continues the lead note does begin to resemble petitgrain. The sweetness of the opening has departed .This is now a resinously green scent. Bottom line: This is a wonderfully richly aromatic take on a masculine-leaning summer cologne. I am liking it very much. If the Aventus crowd ever discovers this one, Oriza L. Legrand will soon be much richer ....and ruined. I initially thought, due to the name, that I might end up comparing this to choice selections from Parfum d'Empire's L'Heritage Corse collection, ...but no, there are none directly comparable to this, ...though I suppose Eau de Gloire or Salute would have to be the closest, though not very.
