Arabesque

Ormonde Jayne continues to win me over again & again. Arabesque is a STUNNING rose/oud fragrance! I decided to revisit her today after she sat for about 4 months. The first time I tried her, I got similar vibes to Bond Signature; the oud didn't seem very deep & developed. But whew, she completely blew me away this time around. It's the perfect balance of juiciness and dryness, as I find that a lot of rose/ouds are more on the drier side, but the juicy black currant really sealed the deal for me. The oud is definitely there, loud & proud, and amazing in all of its glory. This is elegant, refined, and wonderfully exotic. Also, the oud is really remarkable; this house tends to source the highest quality of ingredients which is why I love them. This is a must sniff for oud lovers. Longevity is amazing and she takes you on a journey even hours upon hours later. 10/10!!

I don't know about "unisex" but I guess that depends on what type of fragrances you prefer. It definitely leans more feminine to me, based on the feminine fragrances I'm used to smelling. It's very floral. Now, I love that. I don't care if it's feminine or not, I'm wearing it. I love it. So if you like florals, and are looking for a rose oud, don't sleep on this one. I'll say that the dry down is more masculine, but only just. I would say this is nuclear, at least initially. Everyone is going to smell it. And the longevity, wow. On my skin it lasts at least 12 hours. On clothes, it lasts days. I didn't buy a full bottle of this so I can't speak on value, but I would absolutely recommend finding a sample of it and giving it a try.

This complete stunner of a scent has grown on me over the last little while. It truly comes into its own in warm weather. It needs a bit of a jump start and hot skin makes it absolutely catch fire. Dry and a bit astringent, overwhelmed by powdery rose scent on a cool day- but in warm/hot weather it turns into a peppery, tart, almost rich fruity wine/deep rose scent. Gorgeous. Something to spray on one's decolletage/crooks of the elbow- long lasting and guaranteed to make you keep sniffing yourself like a weirdo because it just smells so lovely. If I smelled it on someone passing me on the street, I would definitely follow that person and tell them they smelled delicious. Compelling.

You’d be surprised by how many ingredients work together to create the rose accord found here. It feels remarkably natural, a realistic rose imbued with old-world allure. Despite the richness of its composition, the accord remains airy and translucent, almost a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it illusion drifting through the air. Like many Ormonde Jayne creations, Arabesque favours elegance over excess. The rose is neither overly sweet nor overtly masculine, making it a fragrance for true lovers of the flower, regardless of gender. Beautiful, refined, and quietly decadent.

This is a perfect unisex rose/oud that men can wear. The opening is jammy, but it becomes a beautiful dry oud fragrance that lasts forever. Yes, it reminds me of Oud Ispahan. Do I regret adding Arabesque to the collection? no. Oud Ispahan is my pick if I had to choose, but it's personal preference. OI is the deeper, darker, and more challenging fragrance, and a masterpiece of Francois Demachy. Arabesque on the other hand is dryer and more ethereal. Both take time to appreciate to determine which is best fit you. in my case, both were perfect 🤪

This is a beautiful rose-oud combo, that we all know so well. It is similar to Jo Malone Velvet Rose & Oud or even Lancome L'AUTRE ÔUD. I personally won't be purchasing it again, because I do have a lot of similar Rose & Oud combos. It's feminine, beautiful, but nothing unique. I don't feel like it is soapy or powdery though. I am not sure where other reviewers are getting that.

Ok this is kind of ridiculous, I’ll get into why in a sec. The scent is like a mature rose with the patchouli and oud being the 2nd most dominant notes. I sprayed this on in the morning maybe around 10am, but I was also testing other fragrances I had bought (Nejma Le Sublime and BDK Parfums Impadia)- I sprayed each of those over top of where I had sprayed Arabesque earlier. Flash forward it’s midnight, Impadia’s scent- gone... Le Sublime’s scent- gone... but Arabesque- it was like I had sprayed nothing over top of it, obviously it was a weaker scent but it smelled exactly the same as a skin scent.. not sure how that’s possible but take that with what you will about its longevity.

This a successful interpretation of a classic oud rose fragrance in the transparent slightly molecular, and classy style characteristic of Ormond Jane. As others have said the name is well chosen because this is an interpretation rather than a recreation of an Arabian oud. Unlike other western ouds the oud accord is not entirely tamed however, and I appreciate that about it. At the same time it’s also as green and mossy as western Chypre in the dry down. I have trouble faulting it. Fans of the brand looking for something “arabesque” should be pleased. Ends up a bit too sweet and musky for me.

This is beautiful take on the classic combo of rose and oud. The rose and oud, on my skin, are perfectly balanced. The longevity and sillage are outstanding. While I can't pick out the other notes, I feel them there balancing the composition. I would primarily consider this a cooler weather fragrance because of it's strength and depth. I do find this a bit too similar to other oud/rose fragrances, specifically More than Words which I own, so I don't think I will be adding this to my collection.

Do we need another rose-oud? Probably not, but that doesn’t make OJ’s take on it less impressive. The primary notes of rose and agarwood are rounded out by saffron which gives the juice a plasticky vibe and berries which bring it into a more playful, youthful realm. It’s not groundbreaking, just another refined creation from this house.

I love that all fragrances from this brand are very wearable yet sophisticated. Arabesque is a a sort of light oud-y scent with a hint of patchouli that mixed with a very tender, juicy and fruity rose that gives a bit of freshness to the whole composition.

I think it is a really good rose-oud scent. It last forever if you get it on your collar or clothes. I can smell it on my sheets the next morning if I went to bed wearing it the night before.

Arabesque went from a dislike on paper to a definite OK after a full wear. On skin, it remains fairly linear: a restrained rose with a light white-floral undertone, grounded by an earthy, mildly powdery base. Despite the floral structure, it never feels overtly feminine to me; I find it distinctly unisex with a masculine lean. This is one fragrance that needs skin to reveal itself properly; the blotter does not tell the whole story.

Bottle (which is beautiful imo) doesn’t fit the scent. It should be in an OJ orange bottle. The name fits perfectly tho. Anyway, in short a delicate but long lasting feminine Middle Eastern Rose / Oud perfect for summer nights or spring. It’s pretty very well blended but nothing new or very exciting imho. ⭐⭐⭐ out of 5

Typical uninspiring rose-oud combo

The scent of a rich middle eastern woman living in the West. A little sharp, VERY jasmine forward. I'm not a fan of white flowers or powdery scents and didn't see how high up it was on the notes list before I made my order. Appropriately named. More projection than I'd expected from a spray on my wrists. I see a lot of men wearing this in the comments and I have macho guy friends who are super into florals, so I think it could work across the board. Definitely not for me. If this sounds like your vibe don't hesitate. Smells expensive without trying.

This smells like my Great Aunt Prudy arose from the grave with a vengeance. I can't imagine paying so much to smell like overbearing soap. Glad I got it as a sample!!!

There is Rose Oud like Jo Malone Velvet Rose and Oud, or LV Sabel Roses... and then there’s Rose Oud like OJ Arabesque. I’ve never specifically looked out for “patchouli” in a scent and I don’t know if I’m one of those patchouli sensitive folks. But this scent is revolting to my nose. It smells like a dirty cheap hotel trying too hard to cover up something that’s seasoned into the walls. Or cheap plastic toys that emit the distinct chemical smell. Anyway, now I have a travel size of this I’d happily give away.

While I love this, I cannot wear it. Even though my favorite fragrances are much more often unisex than rugged, this was too floral for me. It's also incredibly powerful. The shirt I'd been wearing when I sprayed it on still smelled of Arabesque two days later. In my mind, I see this as a scent for someone who works in a place already known for fragrances such as an apothecary that sells incense, a candle shop, or a florist. It's too strong for a typical office. Perhaps this could be a great dinner date fragrance if you don't mind the powdery jasmine (which might feel grandmotherly). I found this to be beautifully blended. It's relaxing, dreamy, and possesses a powerful sillage and tremendous longevity. This could be a fun, noticeable fragrance for someone who wants to project sweet, floral friendliness.

Extremely light. It’s there but barely there on my skin and all I get is oud and bergamot. It’s nice and the quality is there but too light and very linear for my liking. I will finish off my 8ml vial but won’t repurchase. This would be good for a night time summer fragrance and can be worn in the office because of its strength won’t offend anyone. UPDATE after 11 hours a soft oakmoss has come through and I’m shrouded in humid bliss. I’m surprised this lasted so long being so soft. If it was a bit stronger I would buy a full bottle. Forgot to mention this is unisex.

this is like really nostalgic for me. it reminds me of traveling to dc for a siblings graduation and it being the first time i was around really fancy government buildings and museums and hotels. its actually making me really sick but not from the scent itself. the world seemed so different back then and i really admired the people who would smell like this at the time. obama was running for office and i still had some hope for the minds of the average american. now look at us. i really regret putting this on

I'm on day 2 of trying this so just my initial thoughts really. It starts out complex, (light almost?) and layered, really interesting! But then all I get after a while is faint rose with very pungent musk. It's not unpleasant and perhaps I just need to get used to it more after wearing lighter fragrances all summer. I will say I woke up this morning and the first thing I was aware of was this perfume so for me the longevity is really fantastic. I will keep wearing it and see if like turns to love.

Arabesque is a rose and oud fragrance, but the additions of bergamot, black currant, and moss really help make this a stand-out scent. They provide this lovely, airy freshness that I wouldn't have expected from a scent with the other heavier notes. The projection is insane. I sprayed this once on my arm, and that single spray left a scent trail that even my usually oblivious boyfriend noticed. On me, it leans more feminine than unisex, especially in the drydown where the rose is very prominent.

...... I’m 47M and straight as an arrow, I will be honest and say I Love this scent on my skin. Very well balanced and it’s not in the mentioned notes , but I pick up some very well balanced ambroxin into the composition. If it’s actually in there or not IDK, but something reminds me of ambroxin holding the rose oud combo tightly woven together. Very Nice 10/10 performance is typical for OJ ,,. OUTSTANDING !!! And it’s completely unisex IMHO BEAUTIFUL CREATION STUNNING MASTERPIECE ,, STUNNING

Wow this is a bomb. A rose bomb. Rose is tricky for me as I don’t like sickening sweet rose and a strong rose can go offensive so quick. I was sick for a few weeks and this would have made me gag. If I smelled this on someone I would run away it’s so strong it’s offensive. I think it’s the woody rose I don’t find it fresh or juicy it’s like it’s been in a musky attic for 30 years.

Bought the 8ml directly from Ormonde Jayne. Longevity is long lasting on my skin and like another commenter said, this is an oud bomb, I get a lot of rose too. This is a dislike for me but I'm quite picky when it comes to oud in fragrances.

Whoever said it’s extremely light - on me it’s the total opposite/ it’s an oud bomb, not feeling any fruitiness just sharp patchouli and oud. Pass. I gave it to my pre teen son he seems to think it’s ok

Typical rose oud at the beginning similar to MFK's Oud then dries down with super synthetic white musk. Boring release.

Absolutely stunning! Need a full bottle! Another masterpiece by the house...

Can't wait to try it! Im sad the bottle design has changed though! :)
