Ormonde Elixir

My first (but certainly not my last) full-bottle purchase from Ormonde Jayne. I agree with the last reviewer who situated Ormonde Elixir closer to Ormonde Woman than to Ormonde Man: to me, the hemlock is star of this fragrance. It's gorgeously woody, pungent, green, and resinous, recalling the mist-shrouded coastal forests of Northern California and the Pacific Northwest. The addition of Cambodian Oud, which is much darker, denser, and a tad medicinal, is a masterstroke. The oud imparts depth and an exotic, mysterious quality that one could imagine clashing with the hemlock. Rather than dial down or mitigate the woods, though, a third is added: sharp, spicy, wholesome cedar! I can't think of any other fragrances featuring such a densely entwined wood accord like this one, making Ormonde Elixir the most "decadently" woody fragrance in my collection. There is also a green-floral accord of grass, violet, and jasmine, as well as a spice accord of cardamom, coriander, and sandalwood. They all combine beautifully to form the most regal and ethereal of afternoon strolls in a lost forest kingdom, air rich with the cool, misty air of the coast, light given form and grace in its passage through the ancient canopy. In a word, OE is utterly transportive. It's also incredibly potent, lasting at least eight hours on my skin and filling the room with 2-3 sprays. I don't quite know how to categorize it in terms of occasion, season, and gender; it's so unique and photo-realistic. Perhaps a bit more on the masculine-formal side, and best in spring and fall, as I feel very cold weather would stifle it but high heat would render it overwhelming. It's a bit on the pricey side, given its resemblance to Ormonde Woman. So, if you like the sound of this but don't want to spend this much, and don't mind losing the oud, just go for OW. They're both magnificent.

A velvety, plush version of the Ormonde signature greens anchored with a beautiful oud. Rather than sparkling in the sunlight, as the original, it's the woods at dusk as the sun falls and the smells of late summer permeate the atmosphere with melancholy and witchiness. The opening is a beautiful blast of grass, cardamom and a citrus note held together by a deep woody animalic oud that is like the witch calling you deeper into the heart of your own wildness and sensuality. The heart is oud, violet, grass and maybe rose, like dark purple velvet. Very visual and seamlessly articulated transitions. As it wears, more of the Ormonde signature projects, while close to the skin is the smooth oud. In the heart the oud is the star. The oud is exceptionally beautiful, alive in its complexity. A smooth wood that is maybe naturally and wisely the star of this composition. Not obvious but of course obvious with the beauty of this composition. Here the oud wood is embellished by the traditional floral and green notes of Ormonde signature. It's the witch. Wow. The oud eventually has a leathery character and then soft powdery. This is how I had always wished Ormonde Man/ Woman smelled. I also live in a dry hot climate and maybe this works better here because of the oud. More than worth the money I think, it smells that good. The only negative is the whole show is not extremely long lasting, maybe 4 hours on my skin. Possible to improve performance by spraying on fabric. I'm so glad that in the world of Linda Pilkington and Ormond Jayne there is still a love of fine artistry, natural materials, and a celebration of brand and creativity that keep delighting and surprising.

This is hands down the best oud - it breaks the mold - and while I adore the classic tobacco-rose-amber-musk notes of most oud centric perfumes this one is entirely different and yet perfectly complimentary to all the complex facets of real oud. Ormande Elixir opens bright fruit, freshly cut clean grass, with oud & cedar notes that are powdery like sawdust and fresh, sticky oud resin. Jasmine is a note that can run the gamut of indolic to fruit juice sweet, and it is a bit of both here, ripe and juicy with only the tiniest bit musky, perfectly blended to boost the fruit-like nuances of real oud oil. The cardamom and coriander aren't really noticeable or were so fleeting in the opening that I didn't register them. This is the 3rd wearing of my sample and thus far the dry down has only grown deeper, darker, more resinous with the opening notes morphing from fresh & fruity to a rich, sexy, amber oud molasses. As this is an 'elixir' it is quite powerful and long lasting but never obtrusively so - I get wafts throughout it's wearing and the sillage depending on body temperature is anywhere from above skin scent to arms length but never overwhelming me or others around me with it's presence. If you've grown a bit tired of the classic Oud perfume profile give this one a try, and be prepared to open your wallet for a full bottle. A delight.

In my humble opinion this version of ormonde is the best one. After succeeding so much with the ormonde man and ormonde women fragrances, it was time to create a unisex version. This version takes the original and adds a ton of real Cambodian oud in exchange for the Agarwood in ormonde man. That change makes it deeper, more animalic and sexier. Then it adds the voilet and jasmine from ormonde women. Making it a little more unisex over the original. But that makes it more intriguing to my nose. I’d say it’s perfectly unisex. It’s just amazing stuff. After sampling I had to go for the full bottle. You don’t really hear anybody talk about this and they should be! Underrated gem! This is perfect in fall time. 9.5/10. Borderline masterpiece. I took a half a point for the fact it’s a flanker. And I just don’t like flankers lol. And I didn’t like how they used the elixir branding... cmon OJ your better than that! Elegant and naughty, a true dandy's scent.... This is gorgeous from beginning to end. Take Ormonde Jayne Man, spice it up, slightly reduce the greenness (or just take Ormonde Woman as a base, reinforcing the aromatic nuances) and double the perfume oil concentration, and you will be half way there... because on top of all that, there is a Cambodian Oud (the real thing), which is to day for. Very very sexy, taking this juice into an upper-class naughty fragrance, perfect signature for the modern dandy... Wild and elegance mixed to perfection. A good example that it is not only rose what can be successfully combined with Oud... (don't believe it, just check it out, you will not regret it, I promise...) Uniqueness: medium-high (just because It's based in other perfumes from the brand) Scent: 9/10 Performance: high Would I buy it: Yes (already part of my collection)

Do you love high quality oud scents, but find it difficult to wear them at work? I wear Ormonde Elixir frequently to office and always get good feedback. It has the same pleasant foresty, herbal DNA as Ormonde Man (which is one of the best office fragrances made imo), but Elixir is darker and more mysterious with a natural easy to wear oud lurking in the background. Some reviewers here find this scent odd. The opening may be a bit funky to some noses not used to real oud, but after 10-15 minutes it projects a foresty heaven around you. Simply a darker and more natural Ormonde Man. Ormonde man is at the beginning of the forest with light penetrating the treetops, while Ormobde Elixir is deep dark forest. I dont find it challenging nor off putting at all, but it is niche and it is quite unique for sure. This is the time to use the 10/10. I love this scent.

Just bought this as I love Ormonde Man and didn’t want to miss my opportunity to have Ormonde Elixir now that it’s been discontinued (and I got a good price). I’m still on my first wearing. I must say that I started this review just to say how I didn’t see how this was similar to OM... openings are massively different... but once the dry down starts I can certainly see the similarities. For now I still prefer the “old” OM to this Ormonde Elixir; I’ll test the “new” OM (the current one, with higher concentration) when I have a chance, to see how the 3 of them fit together. EDIT: just tried Ormonde Woman. OE is very, very similar to OW; and much less to OM, which is a brighter scent. I think that owning OW and OE would be redundant; but having OM and one of the other two may make sense, one brighter and the other darker.

Haven’t smelled Man or Woman by OK. This opens slightly spicy and green. Not fresh green, more earthy green. Woody as well. The Oud here is really nice, has a slightly smoky aspect to it- almost rubbery too; but at the same time, it has an incredibly unique sweetness (which I’ve heard can come from the Cambodian Oud). Very nice, the sweetness is almost like a chocolate, or even cocoa. As it dries down. It basically retains a lot of the opening notes maybe less smoke and rubbery and more powdery. Unsure what hemlock smells like- but this is actually VERY nice. As with all her scents I feel this can be a signature scent. Not much to dislike about it. Lasts a long time but doesn’t project as much as some of the other in the brand. Pretty masculine, but as always anyone can wear what they like.

My last few reviews have been somewhat negative so I will restore some balance to the universe by sharing my irrational love for this scent. This one makes my brain short circuit and my knees go weak. I'm not sure how I feel about it as a perfume to wear but I sniff the bottle frequently and sneak sprays as I can. My attachment to this scent is not utilitarian but purely emotional. It easily sits in my top 3 perfumes of all time. Elixir comes across as a souped up version of OJ woman. It is greener, denser, darker, and oilier. There is something savoury about it as well. OJ woman feels pastel and pretty in comparison. Its absolutely phenomenal. OJ is criminal to have discontinued it.

this one is Ormonde woman+ oud that fits perfectly to magic violet Woman, i think this combo must be the best of all elixirs in the line, becasue this Oud, not medicinal but soft and creamy with a hint of animalic spice (just as described by the house), makes Ormonde woman more mystic and rich and sensual yes, night version, also it smells like higher concentration. OW is shiny sun like, and more vibrant becasue of easier composition, elixir is more like all perfumes: deep base sounds , i love them both!! Exquisite!And the description the house makes of their perfumes is exactly how all of their perfumes smell, this tells me they understand what they are doing. Love!

Feels like an incredibly polished version of DSquared Rocky Mountain wood, but blended more so nothing stands out as much. Generally pick up cardamom-cedar-grass top with a full depth of coniferous woods of the hemlock-oud-amber behind it and the violet jasmine tying it together in a smooth segue, but its all there at the same time. Its very transparent but strong at the same time, it projects and hangs around but is not thick, to the point where I doubt this would do well in the cold. Very nice, formal and unique unisex woodsy scent.

Exceptionally intoxicating and complex, this smooth oud is accented by beautiful aromatic spices, hemlock, and creamy jasmine to make a professionally sultry scent.

Too much smilar to OJ Man. Cambodian oud is solid. Green, woody and animalic.

OJ has one of the most distinct DNAs in the game and it's the backbone of this fragrance. To me this is like you mixed a little bit of Nawab of Oudh with Ormonde Man. Super soft woods and musk. The oud is very very slightly medicinal, and I mean barely. The rose note from nawab is very present. This is actually very elegant and high class. I think of you already have a bottle of Nawab or Ormonde Man this would be a little redundant.

A denser, more "oudy" version of Ormonde Man. And by "oudy" I mean there is this underlying presence of a cacao-leaning oud that is mixed in with the piney-forest air DNA of Ormonde Man. Redundant to own both...if you want an all-year round scent, go for Ormonde Man. If you want a darker version that is oud-forward, but can only be worn in Fall and Winter, get Ormonde Elixir.

I mean this in the best way possible - this smells like really expensive olive oil. Like the best stuff you can find at a niche shop, and you just use that oil for finishing and dipping etc. I really like this scent!

A very easy to wear fragrance It says there is oud ...... nope What I get is a very acceptable old Dior homme the original I believe it’s the violet combined with the rest of the notes A good scent but not for me Performance is moderate

All I get is a vague Nestle’s chocolate powder scent...a glass of childhood chocolate milk. 🍫🥛

Yuck. Probably one of the worst frags I've ever smelled. The opening is a very bitter, medicinal smelling, green-like oud. Didn't change much on dry drown. It doesn't smell like Kilian Dark Lord, but I get a similar vibe, in the sense that it's very, very medicinal. I'd never want to wear this. Disappointing release. @DrVicius...I regret it. Scent: 2/10 Longevity: 8/10 Projection: 7/10 Price/Performance Ratio: 2/10

Smells like one of those cheap oud oils you buy from Etsy. Cheesy fecal oud. Low quality.

What an exceptional fragrance. At the base is the Ormonde signature, the notes common to both Ormonde Man and Ormonde Woman. To this, 1% Cambodian Oud has been added. Its real high quality Oud that is creamy and to my nose has a chocolat base. I have made a side by side comparison with Bortnikoff's Oud Monarch and the two are very similar in terms of Oud with a slight base difference. I met Linda Pilkington who was visiting my Perfume store with her new elixir collection. The concentration is the same as Ormonde Man/Woman with the addition of Oud. To me this is a very classy woody Oud scent. Perfect for an important event and even a work scent as it will not offend anyone. On me it projects for about 2 hours then is a closer scent for another two and ends as a skin scent for the last three to four hours. So it last most of the working day for me. This will be my fall signature scent I am currently wearing Oud Monarch but will surely switch to Ormonde Elixir once the Bortnikoff runs out. Try before you buy but if you are into Oud, this is a must try. To me it will always be part of my collection.

I really don't have much frame of reference for the main accord in this (they say hemlock smells like mouse urine, but I'm not intimately acquainted with mouse urine so...). But I'll give my more general impression. The central theme is a mix of herbal, slightly coniferous greenness, austere powderiness with a faint floral and woody edge. Austerity is very much the central theme for me with this. This is an aloof fragrance. Cold even. The sort of thing that would be worn by a robber baroness or coven leader. But also very elevated, elegant and classy. Like if Chanel No 19 took a more naturalistic turn (not that it smells anything alike, but evokes a similar feeling). I could imagine Boudica wearing it. There is also a slight darkness to it; an almost unpleasant malevolence just lurking at the edges (particularly in the opening) that almost puts me off, but isn't quite prominent enough to make me hate it. I'm hesitant to say I love this perfume. Or even like it for that matter. But I definitely respect it. Very evocative. And probably signature-worthy for the right person.

If all you get from this is vague chocolate powder, please get your olfactory system seen to. Otherwise, I get a dry, bitter, medicinal green, grassy, oud open, with the oud appearing more Hindi actually with hints of fermenting dairy, less typical of Cambodian oud, and less of the red currants and berries facets of this type. I get a really, severely "off" apricot. The black hemlock and grass oil give this fragrance a real pine-on-steroids feel and overall a sharp green punch. Kind of interesting. But kind of discontinued.

I haven’t tried this so this is not a review. I have, and love, both the edp and parfum of Ormonde Woman but do not like the Man version and there seems to be nothing definitive to show which this is based on. The given notes here suggest it is based on Woman but the only review here (and reviews elsewhere) seem to assume it is based on Ormonde Man. Anyone out there know the answer?

I get almost nothing green or animalic here, just chalky wood plus a gauzy, vanillic sweetness, like talc and amber. The main vibe is of warm, dry velvet, but the violet gives the composition a subtle undertone of airy coolness, too. It makes me think of talcum powder, a lake house with a home sauna, and a cool evening breeze that smells distantly of rain. Wistful, calm, and unisex.

To me this smells somewhat similar to Ormonde Woman. This is a bit warmer, but still quite cool due to fir (or hemlock). It shares the common problem with many coniferous smells - it is quite weak. For that reason, over 200 eur a bottle is a very steep price. In the drydown, there is the similar bitter smell that can be found in the Ormonde Woman.

The notes look closer to ormonde women than ormonde man but I only own the latter thus its my only point of reference. To me this smells like ormonde man with a smooth and beautiful oud note backing it up and making it feel thicker and a tad sweeter. The end result loosely reminds me of mfk oud extrait.

Hmmmmmmmmm whilst nice, and whilst Linda was the first to use oud in western perfumery, and whilst it’s quite nice and the oud is nicely blended and non funky ... I think oud is not Linda’s style or what I look for from her house. The new Cambodian oud released is a room clearer. But that’s just me.

Exactly as the reviewer below me said: Elixir “somewhat” carries the same DNA as Ormonde EDP, only this one comes off as more balsamic, oily and more on the unisex side of things. The overall scent is a cross of the original Ormonde and MFK Oud.
