ANGELIQUE by Papillon Perfumery Sweetness from osmanthus , nuttiness from orris butter , warmness from champaca and softness from mimosa . These things evoked me to sum up this fragrance to my collection. I've found this one as the only feminine fragrance from the whole papillon line. This is so clean and calm. I am very much aware of the performance of a fragrance but the gentleness makes me get this scent . It does not have the monstrous performance like others from this house . You have to reapply it or may be spray more to understand this scent . I usually take 4-5 sprays of it. It's very close to skin like scent and fades away from my clothes from average after 10-11 hours but you can get the fluffiness till the dry down. I think sometimes we need to stay mute from the world , need to leave all our melancholy behind , need to smell clean and these help us to purify our heart. I prefer this scent during my solitaries because it listens me. The trail which it leaves that whispers around me. translucent powder hiding a sheen of sweat. skin shining like honey in golden hour sunlight, stone fruits gutted by painted claws onto an ivory blouse. a pale flower flecked with blood beneath a vanity mirror signed with lipstick. from petticoats to pantyhose, chiffon to leather, claire's to la perla. violently girlish, violently! the innocent puff of dry orris root and mimosa is a front, protecting secrets: a dream of wet peachy sweetness, osmanthus pinned down by tobacco and incense; smoke rises from under white satin sheets. soft, delicate orris is the most prominent aspect of angelique, but the contrast of darkness lurking within completely transforms the orris from a white puffy cloud in the sky to an angel fallen from the heavens. resins and tobacco sit at the heart of angelique, but happily restrained in the shadows by a leather corset coated in flowers. the shy frankincense accord is warm with a slightly metallic tinge, holy and profane as it cozies up to a subtle scent of tobacco that makes itself at home here in the thistles of femininity. in the streets of san francisco with angelique on my neck i am told "you smell like blood and peaches," and all i can do is smile. songs for angelique: crush the flowers by the wake, drunk at nightswim by charles, 10 james orr street by strawberry switchblade, by tomorrow by black tambourine.

Love love love this. It does happen to contain a lot of my favourite notes, but they wouldn't work together without the beautiful blending by maybe my favourite perfumer, Liz Moores. Completely unique amongst everything I've tried too. Longevity is decent on my skin, but among the weaker Papillon creations in that regard - for example, I would use 2-3 sprays of this vs 1-2 sprays of Bengale Rouge. But it's also probably one of more "office-friendly" of my favourites, as someone whose tastes skew towards more opulent perfumes. It's a "spring" perfume to me, but it can fit all year round, quite versatile. Also, the name may be impacting my judgement I would say this is the most overtly feminine papillon perfume I've tried.

Angélique is such an other-worldy creamy orris butter. There is something in it that smells like the faint bit of smoke in the air when you singe a piece of paper. The perfume is slightly sweet. I smell just a bit of mimosa, but if I did not see the notes I would never guess that there was any mimosa here. I think the most obvious floral is osmanthus, which gives it a bit of clean-ness, but overall I don't really smell much in the way of florals. I just smell buttered iris, woods, smoke, and something like caramel. Very rich and resinous. I love it! This is as marvelous as Anubis, they share something in common, but Angélique is softer, more chic. Update: 3 years later and I now stock this in my web-shop aveparfum.com

This is another fragrance that I'm just dying to get a full bottle of. Absolutely breath-taking iris fragrance that is very floral but I do think its unisex maybe leaning slightly more feminine. I get mainly iris but the osmanthus and champaca compliment it perfectly. If I was a very formal man this would be my signature fragrance and it wouldn't even be close. I think iris to me has always just been a super classy smelling note. I just wish this projected more but nothing overspraying can't fix! I thought I liked more buttery iris fragrances but after smelling this I think I just like any iris in general. The best iris fragrance ever and without a doubt a masterpiece 10/10

Papillon Angelique (2014) - iris osmanthus - @papillon_artisan_perfumes ‘s Liz Moores creates a fragrance from ingredients I enjoy, so I was bound to automatically love it. A simple fragrance. It combines Dry & Rooty Iris and Suede-like Osmanthus that create a beautiful interplay between leather, iris and apricot-like notes. There’s also a soft and powdery note that I was getting and it was probably the Mimosa. This softened the 2 star players creating a wonderful balance. But what I enjoy about Liz’s work is how she is able to be flexible. She is the embodiment of #jacquesguerlain with Dryad, #mauriceroucel with Salome or #jeanclaudeellena with Angelique. A talent indeed.

This is easily the most imaginative interpretation of osmanthus I've experienced. Instead of the usual pairing with a tea note, it's paired here with a subtle iris note, which gives it a round, sweet, jammy quality with a hint of powder. But what gives this perfume its unique playfulness is, I think, the illusion of smoke and sweat wafting in and out, and that comes from the cedar-olibanum notes. It's not elegant incense, it's girly sweat and cheap cigarettes you try when you're 14! This prevents the whole thing from just being a cute floral. Instead, there's this weird interplay between the bodily and the ephemeral. I loved this so much that I had to have a full bottle.

Angelique, beautiful name and a beautiful scent. On first spray, to my nose smells just like Ellnett hairspray...seriously! Which I thought was quite lovely as I remembered watching my mum patiently, and quite seriously as she had her long, chestnut hair styled and liberally sprayed whilst at the hair salon. Angelique then moves onto a intriguing mimosa/cream and iris scent. It's gentle and quite angelic, without a gender or age. She is in my collection, I rarely wear her, I sniff the nozzle and spray my bed linen, as it has a lovely aura and my bedroom is my favourite place.

My house is a mess after moving, it’s years later and all my fragrances are still in boxes..smh. I remember buying this perfume but I saw I have a back up too. I just sprayed some on, ahhhh I see why I bought a back up. Sooo beautiful. I own all of Liz Moores perfumes, well not the newest one . I need to get my hands on that one. What a beautiful Iris mimosa fragrance, but it’s so weak, I get maybe an hour. My skin just drinks up perfume. I’m gonna have to moisturize first then use a primer, and see if it lasts longer. .

This is a subtle scent that somehow manages to be powerful, like the power of the dawn as seen through the lense of early morning dew and mist. Another amazing offering from Papillon! Reminiscent of Ashoka in that accord of real rooty iris with bright jasmine and mimosa. It begins as a shimmering osmanthus iris and progresses through twists and turns over hours into a woody iris. It moves from feminine to masculine, sunny to introspective. Fascinating and beautiful! Very wearable. Intimate sillage. 6 hour longevity.

Beautiful! It’s a comfort scent, so easy to wear the notes that stand out to me is the perfect buttery Orris with the softest mimosa and ethereal lightness of frankincense. This is Magic on me, I am finding myself addicted to this scent, I wear it daily, I also desire for this to come in a form of body cream, I just want it all on me! It’s powdery, airy, creamy, fluffy and sparkly. Kafkaesque blog has written a review about this perfume so beautifully, (I agree with every word) which lead me to buy it.

An interesting low projector, this is my second time wearing Angelique and I pick up a smoky note in the heart. The yellow florals play back up to this smooth suede scent. Very natural and even easier to wear, it’s a quiet, introspective perfume. If I could afford it, I would not hesitate to buy it. I’m still pining for Salome, but Angelique would be a second purchase from this brand. The reality is that I can’t buy everything I fall in love with.

Fabulous mimosa fragrance! I really like the way it's done. I smell orris, mimosa and powder the most. Somehow it reminds me of iris as well. I thought of 28 La Pausa Chanel smelling this. Similar feel except there is rose in La Pausa and mimosa in Angelique. Earthy and comforting, elegant and bohemian. I could'n find perfect iris fragrance, instead, I think, I'll go with Angelique. Really good quality fragrance. 5 stars from me!

I gotta give it to Liz Moores, she is a MASTER perfumer with incredible talent. My goodness just having created Salome alone is enough to put her on the map of one of THE best perfumers out there, but I love everything she’s released. There is not a bad one in the bunch. And trust me I am very critical of every fragrance I sample. I can be very brutal. But I do love all of Ms Moores offerings. ALL OF

Soft leathery iris. In the base it reminds me of nutty buttery pine kernels (weird, I know). All very soft and fluffy, not heavy or smothering. I also feel that this shares notes with Anubis, maybe something of a resinous base but toned down. I like them both but Angelique is more wearable and well behaved for daily wear, I find it very cozy and comforting.

round, warm orris, sweet apricot-y osthmanthus + dry sweet mimosa come together to create something that feels autumnally warm, gently powdery, a tinge jammy, all while a faint incense note sort of whistles in the background, adding almost a bit of a latex feel. Smells like balloons, biscuits, and a field of wheat and flowers in the autumn sun.

this was my first Papillon perfume test and I remember saying “how did she do that?” after the first sniff. This is my second time wearing it and I am again enchanted by it. So velvety, a bit waxy, gentle but with a character. Salome and this one are my favorites from the whole line (haven’t tried Epona yet).

Smells like the best clean clothes drying outside in the sun on a windy day, with some extra creamy-ness and thick but smooth + fine orris root. I prefer this one over masque Milano l’attesa because the l’attesa has a annoying iso e super note in the mid, even though the rest of the fragrance is awesome

Oh the cedar complicates this floral. It is dry. Almost like a (pleasantly) sour suede. I actually think unisex, despite many reviewers invoking feminine or girlhood archetypes. It’s refreshing to find a mimosa in a new setting here. Low projection, even after 3 or 4 sprays. Gorgeous on a rainy day.

Alone time in a spring time garden, dozing off in the sun. Quiet, pensive and absolutely angelic. The iris is plush and cozy, silky osmanthus is happy, and mimosa smiling. Another beautiful piece from Liz Moores.

If I try to pick this perfume apart, I get yellow flowers, tea, leather, tobacco and smoke. It has this chypre feel to it. I need four or more sprays for the perfume to come into its own.

best iris drydown. a small aspect in dry down smells like outside air dried laundry in the sun.

To me, Angélique leans strongly toward powder and violet. Violet isn’t listed here, but it is mentioned on the brand’s own website. The orris here is beautifully balanced; neither overly buttery nor excessively airy... exactly as it should be. Alongside this, there are light, joyful florals drifting through the composition, reminiscent of mimosa. I usually struggle with osmanthus, as it tends to read sweet on my skin, but here that aspect is either restrained or pushed far into the background. It still adds a subtle fruity-airy quality without becoming intrusive. Incense is listed, yet I can barely detect it. This house has never disappointed me, and this one is no exception. There’s a generosity in the way the notes are handled. Overall, this is a nostalgically tinged floral: the scent of an elegant, refined woman walking on a breezy day, flowers around her, catching faint traces of her own lipstick and face powder as her hair moves in the wind. Floral green? I'll say floral but not green. It smells like a wonderful concoction of rich buttery orris, strong stewed osthmantus tea, honey and delicate fuzzy mimosa flowers. I tend to see mimosa scents in a yellow spectrum and I'll colour Angelique gold, not a flashy gold but dappled gold. The honey has an animalic tone that reminds me of Miel de Bois. If I caused alarm intially with my almost gourmandic description, fear not for Angelique is definitely not gourmand. I still won't label it floral green though :) Sillage and longevity are good. The first from this house to really wow me and definitely goes on the want list.

An angel with wings of paper watches over you and your family. It is looking through your window. It is the winter holidays, and frankincense/olibanum burns in your living room, its tendrils purifying your home. It was that incense that summoned the angel. You are at your kitchen table with your family, all sitting together for the first time in a long while, eating fresh bread and apricot jam--your children are laughing and kicking their legs under the table with joy. The angel smiles and blows mimosa blossoms out of its mouth through the crack in your window. One of the most beautiful perfumes ever--Angelique.

Sweet, very formal, a bit stuffy. Very powdery up top, with lipsticky iris/orris at the middle abd throughout the drydown. I wanted more woods here. Its floral yes but im not getting much of the alleged yellow floral. I really like the earthy clay like notes at the base. Sweet but not fruity. Quite complex and difficult to describe. Easy to like but kind of uptight. Slightly vintage feel. The blending is beautiful but the notes leave me wanting for something. I can't put a finger on it. It reminds me slightly of LA Baguette, but I prefer its slightly brighter, warmer and creamier scent.

Angelique opens with sparkling crisp citrus and then goes into a cloud of pillowy-soft iris fluff. Subtle, barely-there, but plush and dense, with a delicate citrusy-floral effect around the iris. And that’s pretty much where Angelique stays: light, sunny, citrusy-tart fluffy florals around a creamy pale iris core. It’s extremely understated, and not a super-strong scent, but it’s delicately beautiful. Luca Turin’s image of a butter-yellow pillow made of velvet is exactly right; it’s a sunny, light spring scent, but unusually dense with high doses of iris butter. Quietly luxurious.

This strangely smells a lot like Mugler's Angel on the drydown, and I wonder if there isn't a play on words here with calling it Angelique. There's no patchouli in this, yet it does take on a powdery, intensely sweet cotton candy like fragrance at the end notes. It's a very pretty fragrance. I'm getting mostly mimosa and osmanthus from this initially. It's got an moist, earthy type of quality that then fades to the powder of the orris root.

Solar but unsettling like a trembling vision behind the heat waves, an eye-piercing beautiful faerie swings her scythes in a wheat field, her bright and soft features hidden by the tall grass and her golden mane. When the sun goes down, she drinks honey infused chamomile in her house inside a tree. An equally green and cosmetic opening leaves a sweet, but still bucolic and herbaceous yellow floral comfort.

Beautiful innocence! The phrase "Ignorance is bliss" in a bottle. Its very pretty, I also get this skin like quality from it, that I imagine will go well with many peoples skin chemistry. The iris is powdery, the florals are prominent, and it all just works together so well! I feel like this would be a great wedding scent, beautiful, romantic, enchanting!

Very difficult to pin down. I seem to get mostly cedar and a cold incense, and some citrusy facets that I'm guessing are from the osmanthus. The iris and mimosa are very much present but come off as airy and abstract, like a thin veil over the solid notes. Simple but good. One of the most underrated Liz Moores creation.

Aromatic and bright, for the first few minutes, then barely there for the next half hour to one hour depending on the number of sprays and then vanished. The story kinda ends there for me.

Effervescent yellow florals with waxy iris, opening had a green thistle-like note and some citrus and tobacco, subtle and naturalistic. Somehow smells different every time I test it.

Just sampling this and right away I thought "this smells like a shoe store" or particularly a pair of new shoes still in the box. Not at all in a bad way...I kind of like it.

Burnt smoked rubber (tar) with beeswax. Champaca has the spicy character of star anise. Liz Moores put iris elements into Angelique, which was inspired by the irises in her garden in the spring. At one point my sense of smell was disturbed by the damn metal. The base of wood resin, under the salty and spicy shell of black pepper and leather, echoes the two, covering and wrapping the sweet filling mixed with musk, Champaca, Mimosa Petals, iris, and sweet-scented osmanthus. Intensely floral and viscous resin, they are very different in style, creating a strong contrast. When the long-sealed floral fragrance began to break free and break through the surface of the resin, all I could smell was an extremely dry, hot and spicy oily floral fragrance, accompanied by boiled medicine. Fortunately, floral quickly changed the embarrassing situation. In my opinion, Angelique's liquid should be milky white with a hint of yellow. I really have a hard time liking it. Although I think the blending skills are just as good and not bad, my experience is not pleasant. Compared with the previous quasi-first-class works, Angelique is not so good. Although it did not meet my expectations and preferences, there must be people who can appreciate Angelique. Try again in the future.

Just to amp up a couple of points other reviewers have made. As emily7 said, there are no dark elements in this perfume. It vibrates on a major chord. A heavenly choir of sweetness and light. To wear it feels like being blessed by a higher power. And though the ingredient list is purely floral, for me, like scentedrat, these flowers are so lush and fragrant that it definitely leans fruity. In amongst the mimosa and champaca I get whiffs of peach and apricot yoghurt. A beautiful, rich scent all in all if a little hard for me to pull off. And, just to differ with other reviewers, I get good projection and moderate longevity.

It starts with a beautiful bouquet of flowers starched with iris butter, earthy, almond, raw carrot and... powdery. Leather with osmanthus and champaca that blend quickly. From airy it goes to creamy and intimate like a sweet mimosa powder, anchored to ripe fruity scents of osmanthus and woody cedar in the background. On the skin I initially get a laundry clean then a fruit and malt dessert. With the consistency of a honeyed face powder in an extra moist environment. A retro touch, more feminine and daytime. Enjoyable bar of soap. In 10 minutes it shows itself completely and stays straight until finished. Anxiolytic.

This isn’t *my* perfect iris scent because I just don’t love mimosa, and the mimosa is the second most prominent note I find — but it is beautiful in a way. It’s soft (powdery, but lightly so), it’s gentle and sits close to the skin which makes it feel quite intimate and romantic. Have always received compliments on this.

I don’t understand what happened with this. When I first applied it, it was a lovely floral. And then as soon as it dried down, I couldn’t smell anything. My 6 year old, who wouldn’t stop sniffing me when I was wearing Anubis, got right up on my neck and said I smelled like “old lady.” If I intensely smell my wrist, I get faint cigarette smoke, or rather, how skin smells after one has smoked a cigarette an hour or so before. I quit smoking a year ago, and only then did I really begin to obsess over perfume. So smelling like a smoker again isn’t something that interests me. I’m disappointed because I’ve had extremely positive experiences with this house thus far, but this one is an anomaly.

A sweet floral scent that gives powdery and oily feeling at the same time. The sweetness is too sticky/jammy for my liking. I can detect some aroma of grain/wheat at the beginning, which turns into a rubbery/leathery scent later. It feels like I was served with some warm bread and fruit-flavoured syrup. I dipped the bread into syrup, took a bite, but found it difficult to swallow it down my throat. I woke up, realised it was a dream and I was actually holding a rubber sole in my hand. I quite enjoy the drydown, powdery, earthy and slightly bitter. Unfortunately I cannot stand the overly sweet opening.

Hmmm... one of these perfumes where there's almost an equal number of votes for each longevity and sillage option. I'd love to know why this occurs!!

Cigarette smoke with rubber is what you get, the notes dont add up.

The notes in this do nothing but clash. I couldn’t stand to have this disaster live on my skin and washed my wrist immediately. Wish I could get my money back from the decant

Then it gets a little hot and smoky and spicy. It's not too hot, it will have a quick, quick start. Middle notes: Smell a little smoky, sliver, and mildew bread, and you'll understand that it's from the Champaca tree. It's a mushroom in English ...! In this step, you will feel the warmer and more powdery aroma of this fragrance than the start of the perfume. It will not last much longer. Final note: Only the powdery and mildewed mode will remain at this stage with a little moisture. The bean patch will relax in the space of the fragrance. Papillon Angelique It has a uniform smell so that you will not see a particular and lasting change Aroma is a floral, powdery, soft and unisex fruit (I think most women are) An aroma with a dry, mysterious, mysterious atmosphere, like the dark, strange, old and fearful of unknown places. My understanding of perfume was this. Early on, I had a sense of failure and discomfort with the perfume experience, but when I allowed the perfume to form my own mind, I was eager to continue working. The atmosphere of perfume and the image that will make perfume in your mind, I'm sure you have not imagined before Comparing Angelique perfume with other Papillon fragrances, Ms. Liz Moores was expecting more perfume because I used to admire special chords to create this work. Mrs. Liz Moores is likely to have a special personality who creates special perfumes. What I saw in most of their work is that they are bipolar ...! Or you hate or hate their work I'm in Salamé and Angelique in the Bounty Humor or Hate ...! You can use this fragrance all year round. This is beautiful. Unfortunately, when I received samples of all four Papillon fragrances, I decided to sample them all at once on different limbs (can you imagine?) so Angélique was overwhelmed by the others. However, I needed a refresh before a meeting late one day so I threw the last of my sample vial on and was distracted by how totally ravishing this scent is. It is a wonderful yellow floral with lots of lovely iris - it is sunny and a little cool, soft and tender, and seems to me to be beautifully balanced by cedar (not at all sharp or pencil shaving-like) and the lightest touch of incense. When I tried the Papillon range I realised that I needed to sell off a lot of my wardrobe if only to be able to buy bottle(s) of Liz Moore's work. I need to sample this one again, by itself more than once, to decide if it is joining my collection. EDIT: I have now re-sampled and can confirm that this is beautiful - soft, hazy, buttery up top, and woody in the drydown. However, this is low projection. Really a skin scent for most of its life. The longevity is very good - it lasted all day - but only I could smell it. This is fine for some people and this would make a great scent in environments where you have to be careful, but I am after more carry. A pity.

Angelique is very pretty indeed. It opens very green, then becomes softer, dustier and sweeter,like honeyed blooms: this is, I suspect, the combination of mimosa, iris and osmanthus. Amidst all that, I also get some tobacco (?) or smoke, that's not in the listed notes and that keeps baffling me. It's kind of hay-like and I like Angelique all the more for it. It makes it more bohemian. It's elegant, very easy to wear and appropriate for any number of occasions. However, it is ultimately too soft on me. I don't just mean the sillage, which is average to low. It's like it is painted in pastels and I would prefer if its intensity and brightness were somewhat amped up (I am probably not making any sense by now). All in all, a great quality fragrance, lovely and versatile. I would not buy an FB now, but that is only a matter of personal preference. Edited on Nov 2015: I tried this again and I found it stronger and more vivid than in the spring. I now think it's a really good autumn fragrance: honeyed and dusty.

Not at ALL what I'd expected, and that's not a complaint! Knowing the notes I'd braced for a floral onslaught, but it was the only one from Papillon I hadn't experienced, so I had to give it a sniff. I was shocked when my nose met with powdery greenness. To take on champac, osmanthus, mimosa AND iris, yet not have it become a whirlwind of floral chaos speaks (yet again) to Liz Moores' talent. There's a high-wire act of wonderful balance executed here. Reading others' reviews I get the sense that this one truly opens differently on varying skin types. I personally don't get an overly sweet feel from it, nor creamy. The cedar and frankincense foundation quietly support a dry, powdery, green, and sliiiiightly floral cast of characters. Although a far cry from the big-booted siblings of Anubis or Salome, there is definitely a certain je-ne-sais-quoi familiarity to the others of the Papillon name. I'm now a confirmed (and shameless) fan of this house!

I am not sure why it invokes those memories as none of the notes would suggest anything like it. But when I smell this I am immediately taken back to my grandparents' small farm when I was a child, to the room where they stored alfalfa and hay, next to the cowshed. It's not just the crops that I smell, it's the building itself, the old stone, the chaff cutter, the unswept floors. It's not good or bad; I'm just shocked that the smell reminds me of it so vividly. Interesting experience, maybe that's why I'm so attracted to mimosa in perfumes? This fragrance is quite earthy, almost rough, with the slightest hint of animalics, even if not listed here. Certainly memorable and unique, as all Papillon perfumes. The longevity is weak; you might get three hours out of it if you're lucky. I might splurge one day, though. Edit: I did and I love it! Get this if you want to smell like a field of wild weeds, in the best way possible.

Buttery, perfectly sweet iris and mimosa. Perfect and delicious. 2 of my favorite smells in harmony. It appeals to me in a similar manner to Skin on Skin, but this is handled with a lighter hand, much more delicate and luxurious (not to mention lacking the synthetic extremes of Skin on Skin). Fresh mimosa, to me, smells like a newborn baby and this is the only mimosa perfume I've sampled that doesn't oversupport it's delicate smell with another floral to give it backbone (thus overamplifying it and making it smell synthetic and cloying). Angelique is like early spring, the first dewy green blades of grass, the turgid buds, the clean slate. It's unisex like smelling fresh and clean is unisex (it's not the first scent you think of to describe masculine OR feminine, but people will want to get to smell you better either way). It's soft enough to apply liberally so go to town. 4 out of 5.
