Yuzu Fou

Yuzu is one of the notes gaining steam in modern perfumes, and just like tea notes I’m very dubious it can actually be done (easily) consistently well. So when Corticchiato said he was doing a yuzu, my interest peaked as well as my worry. In my mind, I had high confidence that if anyone could do a convincing yuzu it’s Corticchiato, but the pessimist in me worried it might be a marketing gimmick cash grab. Did he fall prey as all niche firms seem to inevitably do? Let me make this plain and simple: it’s a great perfume. At the top there is actually yuzu! A real and photorealistic yuzu! It’s helped along by pitch-perfect compliments of orange and touches of mint. It’s gorgeous and mouthwatering at the same time. The heart of Yuzu Fou is a surprise, but, upon reflection, a logical turn. Corticchiato told us to expect woods, and his descriptions are just as precise as his perfumes - which is to say high - but this is far from the typical splintery woody dry down we so often get these days. Notes of bamboo, lemon verbena, cedar, resins, and musks give the heart and base a spiciness (cedar), a green and watery freshness (bamboo), an herbal citrus zest (verbena), a slightly smoky and resinous earthiness that resembles incense resin, and a clean richness from the musks. This is the star of Yuzu Fou. I was bowled over by the top but the dry down is even better, and impeccable. Corticchiato said he took broad inspiration from Japan and the harmony it keeps between fast-paced-technology-driven urban life and the beauty of its natural surroundings. He must love Japan, because what he’s telling us about it is that it’s gorgeous. One thing though... it isn’t crazy (fou). In the crowded field of tropical citrus and woody perfumes, Yuzu Fou is a standout triumph. Excellent.

I have a "love - hate" relationship with citrus dominated fragrances, so I was kinda scared to try this out. I dislike every single citrus fragrance which reminds me of some cleaning products or, god forbid, is mixed up with aquatic notes and (which in this case COULD be bamboo). Luckily for me and "Yuzu Fou" this is not the case and I am not going to be writing a bad review. The citrus here is marvelous, it is strong, skanky and deeply provocative and sexual. The mix with mint is mouthwatering and addictive. This is so far the best citrus scent I have tried and even though at start this doesn't feel too pleasant to smell (as I said - it is skanky) it is with no doubt extremely addictive. I clearly wish to get a full bottle of this in summer and the we shall see how other people around me find this - skanky and addictive or just skanky?

Yuzu with galbanum and verbena support in the top, reminding of Heeley's at that stage. Then, cumin appears together with some sweetness a-la Rochas Femme / PdE Wazamba. Then, the sweetness leaves, leaving space for the indolic/musky neroli, that together with the cumin, will give a vague impression of fresh leather... yes, fresh leather... does that remind you of something? For me, clearly Eau d'Hermes (unsurprising after the 'Rochas Femme' stage). Simply the best yuzu fragrance, and indeed 'crazy' for how much it evolves on the skin. Who prefer its citruses a bit softer, cleaner and rounder (but still zingy) might opt for Heeley's, who appreciate a bit of funkiness, will definitely go for PdE's. In any cases, two great options!

I think Yuzu Fou is lovely. It's a very interesting, gorgeous, unusual, unique perfume. Quite stunning. It moves a lot, and puts you through a heap of confused feelings. It's a real adventure perfume! Lovely unusual mixture of citrusy smells: sweet, bitter and just a bit quirky, but it gets better and better as time goes on: and I love it! I love the cedar and bamboo, they give such a clean openness, and the mint is so uplifting. But it's the sweet limey aroma I love . It is yum.

Wonderful bitter Yuzu with very good performance. The other listed notes are intriguing on their own—kumquat, mint, verbena, bamboo— are mixed on a base of neroli and musk. I love this one as much as I love Heeley Yuzu, but this Yuzu is more dominant and herbal. I will be adding this and Corsica Furiosa next Spring as I see them both as wonderful warm weather scents. The new bottle design is also a big step up. Impressed.

This is the loudest, most mouthwatering citrus scent I have ever worn, and nearly a decade later, nothing even comes close. The yuzu hits immediately. It is bitter, fast, and persistent. Mint, verbena, and vetiver are technically in the formula, but yuzu is not interested in teamwork. It stays linear. Hours later, it still smells the way it did in the first five minutes: dry, citrus driven, and bitter green.

I absolutely love this! I bought a sample from LKNU Parfumerie and had to buy a full bottle. I find the yuzu and other citruses in this to be exceptionally cheerful and bright, while the verbena, bamboo, cedar and musk give a more substantial, sensual undertone. Sillage on me is probably a 7/10 and I get quite decent longevity as well.

It is on my want list. :) i can smell lemon, verbena, plus something i called mint wind. Then it all gets sweeter and i get nutty or grain vibe together with white musc. Very nice, snuggly, lovely, Comforting frag.

It's lime, but not as you know it. It's not harsh or functional. It's soft and sweet, with a little hint of sweet, chewable mint leaves. Perfect for a gentleman.

Now thats something new. Unique fragrance, fresh (green vegetables kind of fresh), bold, citrussy green fragrance. Perfect for summer. Excellent performance.

There is some cumin in this yuzu, a more wearable Eau d'Hermes. Lovely 8/10

This Yuzu seems indeed a little Fou, it's certainly not like any other citrus I've ever smelled. I love citrus in all its incarnations - bright, bittersweet, aromatic, even sugary. 'Dirty', however, was a new interpretation for me, and not one I was sure I even wanted to try, because I tend to have a hard time with darker, murkier elements in fragrances. What can I say, I'm not sure if I'm pure at heart, but my taste in perfume sure seems to be. I'm glad I did try it, though, because as it turns out I rather like the so-called 'skank' in Yuzu Fou. I can agree with reviewers who've mentioned sweaty armpits, and it's no fresh sweat either, but it's not too much even for a reluctant beginner skank lover like myself. For one thing, I don't get any pee, and for another the dirty vibe is balanced out beautifully by the clean bittersweet citrus notes and fresh green ones; I even detect something powdery or even soapy in there. The combination is certainly interesting, and as someone else has mentioned, even strangely addictive. I can't stop sniffing my wrist, which is always a good sign. The combination with heavier smells also makes this a lot less fleeting than most citrus fragrances, and a lot more suitable for year-round use because it's so robust. It also feels more sophisticated and more grown-up, just generally more like a perfume and less like aromatherapy. In conclusion, I like Yuzu Fou a lot, more than I thought I would. I'm not sure it'll be a gateway into dirty perfumes for me, but I'm glad I got a small decant; it's good to have an alternative citrus interpretation for days when the bright and sparkling scents I usually like just won't do.

Out of the three citrus-centred fragrances from Parfum d ́Empire (“Azemour les Orangers”, “Iskander” and “Yuzu Fou”), I find “Yuzu Fou” the most puzzling one. Especially its head initially proved a bit of a challenge for me, but to be honest, the more I tested it, the more accustomed I grew to its quirky prelude. “Yuzu Fou” opens with a sparkling mix of citruses (bitter orange and yuzu) and mint. For some strange reason, when I sampled the perfume for the first time, the presence of the mint note reminded me of the smell of my dentist ́s surgery. Perhaps it was just a subconscious association as mint often features in various dental care products. Instead of the image of the products, however, it was the image of the surgery which popped up whenever I tested “Yuzu Fou”. Anyway, the citrusy-minty opening soon gives way to another note in the composition, namely lemon verbena. It not only manages to sustain the freshness of the composition, but it also smooths it out. There can be no doubt about who begot “Yuzu Fou”. All the fragrances in the Parfum d ́Empire line have a distinctive olfactory quality that has become Marc-Antoine Corticchiato ́s signature: the masterful blending of the notes, chypre-like abstraction and an air of edginess. The fabulous “Azemour les Orangers” remains my favourite citrus scent from this house, but “Yuzu Fou” can serve as a darn good alternative.

Yuzu fragrances are slightly disappointing on the whole, I can't remember many to be honest (either deflating or reinforcing my point there) oh actually Caron Yuzu that's nice but also forgettable.(see?) This is nothing like that really, I think of Yuzu as zingy, bitter lemony, grapefruit but very much its own signature citrus smell. You expect a punch, at least a jab of citrus, instead you get quite a big, fleshy, fruit, much more exotic, almost mango like to me. An off kilter middle-ground between Two L'Artisans for me, Timbuktu (seriously) and Batucada. It's like a tropical fruit with the oddness of that bamboo accord, mildly green but with a slightly sweaty edge of spice. I love the way it ends up on skin because it's rounded, clean, musky, a bit warm at heart, and not just some lifeless citrus cologne that burned brightly at first but fizzled out just as quick. I get an earthy, spice to this hence the vetiver inference, and illusion of very mild caraway or cumin. This is a fascinating little creation from a very creative and quality house. Personally, I'm not that taken with it but I find it worthy of praise, certainly for fans of fruity fragrances, this is a stranger alternative to try.

Wow, this is different. I've tried this, as I like citrus fragrances. I was excited to smell Parfum d`Empire's version of citrus, because I assumed there would be some good twist to it, but I completely got lost at what I was smelling. What are those repulsive notes? I thought, it's just my chemistry. After reading the reviews, I am relieved I'm not alone in this. There are definitely "skank" and "cannabis" here. After a while the "bad" notes wear out quite a bit. Nevertheless, as weird as it is, I like it a lot. It's like guilty pleasure. I want to have it too, just not too sure how people around me will take it.

Le plus beau et réaliste parfum 'yuzu' que j'ai eu à sentir. Il est tres beau , piquant , acidulé , tellement réel. Le problème c'est que pendant l'évolution il devient comme un gel douche générique et se transforme en une odeur un peu cheap. Un peu comme l'odeur du parfum d'été de tout le monde avec des agrumes... J'ai lu dans certain commentaires l'odeur de transpiration et d'urine de chat ! Alors je ne sais pas si c'est psychologique mais moi aussi j'ai ressentis cela 😅

Very authentic-smelling, sharp Yuzu with green mint and Lemon Verbena. The combination of citrus and mint has a cooling effect. It has a little bit of a medicinal scent, which I always attribute to mint, something similar to mouth wash. I really liked it and my brother loved it. I do not think I will get a full bottle for myself, but I may get it for my brother.

It’s not an easy task to create a good lemony fragrance. Too often, the result ends up smelling like detergent in the opening and clean laundry in the dry-down. Fortunately, none of that happens here. It feels natural and fresh, with a solid dry-down and lasts just as long as expected — you can always reapply if you feel like it.

On my skin felt mostly lemon verbena. Sour and citrus notes plus bamboo is easy to feel all the time, it is sour-woody-aquatic-green note that lasts few hours, radiates, but suddenly disappears ... like it though.

This is not complicated or long lasting, it's just zingy, refreshing yuzu zest and mint, diffused with clean musk. Nice for hot weather.

Wow the citrus! very bright opening. Even in the opening you can detect something sensual/intimate , the cedar perhaps. The mint has an almost menthol iciness, even the feel of it on your skin. Like tiger balm or vasoline. The citrus makes me think of handwash. I definitely understand what another user said, that it's like a "dentists visit"... Although its unique enough (ie not just lemon) to not just feel like cleaning solution or dishwashing liquid. This is maybe something I can see an older lady wearing, it's sophisticated and tropical, good for an outing in the humid heat. I can imagine it working well for a man as well. It's refreshing and limey, but it brings out a smell like dirty sweat on my skin, like I've been working all day (maybe it's the musk+neroli ) so it's not for me. Not a safe blind buy, but worth a look, it's nice.

Once again on the testing table fragrance number 10 from this brand It’s getting harder and harder to find something worth buying from this house When I smelled this for the first time it was so good i considered buying a full bottle Thankfully I didn’t When I wore it the other day the opening was inviting but after almost 3 hours it just evaporated It’s weak and knowing myself as a lover of powerful fragrances it was plainly a disappointment I hope I’m not wasting my time with this brand since I tested 10 fragrances the only ones that I might consider adding to my collection are 2 out of the rest Not a promising result I must say

This is pretty. At first, it's a big blast of citrus, but once it settles down, the complexity of the scent starts to come to the fore and you can smell the wood and the verbena working some magic. That said, after about 20 minutes, it settles into a pretty basic, lemony scent. It's pleasant, for sure, but it's lacking real personality for me. Olfactive Studio's Panorama and Frederic Malle's Bigarade Concentrée are much better citrus-with-depth choices, in my opinion.

Yuzu Fou is, at face value, a fresh, aromatic scent. Citrus-led with a green-tinged woody undertone, it is fairly predictable in structure, set apart by the inclusion of some exotic and unusual ingredients. On paper, it looks like a compelling riff on a classic, citrus-led summer cologne. In reality, it's a hard pass for me. I have to agree with the comments below that mention sweat - there is an unfortunate sour undertone that resembles sweat, strong and tenacious throughout. Alongside the bright, fresh ingredients, it gives the impression of a fresh cologne attempting to mask post-workout sweatiness. I often enjoy a skanky musk or animalic oud/leather note, but this is just unwelcome sour unpleasantness. YF opens with a tart citrus accord I thought was wonderfully fresh - until the sweat accord emerges. I'm not familiar with yuzu as an individual note, having never encountered the fruit, but I wonder if it is the culprit. Kumquat has featured prominently in both Hermès Le Jardin de Monsieur Li and Cartier Pur Kinkan, scents I'm familiar with, but there was no sweatiness there. I'm guessing it's an unfortunate combination of the bitter, acidic citruses. Something about YF brings to mind vodka too. I get subdued mint (a pity, as its notorious freshness could be put to good use here!) and a nice green-lemon verbena note in there as it develops, but the sourness persists. The woody, musky base emerges after a while, but there is no escape - while it fades somewhat, the sweaty sourness prevails until the bitter end (literally). Sillage and longevity are moderate. An attempt at a unisex summer scent, this is highly unpleasant in my opinion - a risk that didn't pay off. I really like this brand, but YF is a misstep. Fou in the worst way. 1/5.

Is this a joke? Absolutely hideous. A few of the reviewers have hit the nail on the head. It smells of the sweaty armpits of the lecherous old man you can't bear to be in the same room with, and manky underwear. It smells like the hand you don't ever want to shake... after it's been rooting in the rubbish bin at the end of the day in the fruit market. It's throat catchingly bitter for ages, like the public toilets in Derby Eagle Market which are doused with Orange cleaner to mask the grotesqueness of them. (Public convenience of the year 1899 I suspect). It morphs, painfully slowly, like syrup off a spoon, into a shrieking miasma that reeks of dried urine which I have had the misfortune to be behind in the post office queue on Pension Day. If someone gave me this as a present, I would cry.

Bravo for the previous reviewer!! I thought that with such notes Yuzu Fou could make a great summer scent for me or my man or both of us ... Nope! I can't stand it. It started fantastic, with sweet natural juicy citruses and some green notes. Then it became bitter and I started to be a bit nervous, I don't like bitterness in my perfumes. Then it was only worse, all I could smell was actually fresh SWEAT. So, to my nose this is a smelly one, and it's not for me. I recommend all skunk aficionados to try this unusual citrus perfume :) Great projection and staying power.

Reminds me of sitting in the dentist chair; the sweat, the medicinal anti-bacterial stench and the freshness of herbal/minty mouthwash. I respect Parfum d'Empire but I dislike this one. Cumin isn't listed in the notes but it dominates the perfume and not in a good way. It feels like a straight up stink and although the perfume mellows and becomes less medicinal with time, it never becomes likeable. Disappointing. It's a lemony soap (lemon verbena), yuzu (goes away after the opening), neroli, cedar, bitter orange (not much, but it's there). A hint of mint and clean musk. Nothing special, kind of boring. Longevity isn't what i wanted either. 4 good sprays on the arm after 2 hours is reduced to a skin scent. In the dry down, it smells unpleasant on my skin. 4/10. There are a lot of Designers out there that does the same thing, but better. I'd rather go that route for this profile.

I'm with those who smell skank. It starts off with a very strong sweaty male smell and not in a pleasant way, then segues into a strong urine note with eau de Chinese herbalist shop thrown. Just awful. Plus the nose singeing acridity that all Parfums d'Empire fragrances produce on my skin. Normally, I'm inclined to give the perfume the benefit of the doubt and assume that there's an audience out there for each one. But I have serious doubts about it in this case.

It's supposed to be a fresh scent and it is - too fresh in a way, because I could not shake the feeling I was wearing a citrusy cleaning product and its longevity made it worse. It's too simple to be interesting.

When I think of Yuzu I think of something in a ballpark of issey miyake pour homme. I want something freash and citrusy for this summer. I decided to get Yuzu fou. Yuzu fou smell like a room full of stress men with a sweaty armpit and cover it with lemon to me. I don't think I have enogh courage to wear it out.

پارفام دومپیه و ساخت یه ادکلن مرکباتی/لیمویی تر و تازه، تابستانی، و تلخ و شیرین. آکورد مرکباتیِ یوزو سبز، پر طراوت، تیز و خاکی هست، با ته مزه ای لذت بخش از یه باغچه ی سبزی ـ چمن های خیس و شاخه های شکننده ای که زیر پاهاتون قرار داره. آکورد پایه در اینجا هم، اون امضای پودری/شیپغِ آقای کورتیکیاتو هست که ترکیبی از روایح خزه ای، علف خشک، مشک سفید به همراه یه حس خفیف از انیسون و کهربا، و حتی شاید یه مقدار خیلی ناچیز وتیور ـ یا یه رایحه مشابه از چوب های آروماتیکِ مرطوبه. و من عاشق بوییدن این آکورد امضا تقریبا توی همه کارهاشون هستم، این آکورد تبدیل به چیزی خسته کننده یا تکراری نمیشه: این بازرخدادِ یک سبک خاص هست، این بیشتر شبیه به پیدا کردن یه چیز ظریفه که پی می برید همیشه اونجا(تو این کارها) حضور داره. من شخصا از اون حس راحتش خوشم میاد، مثل برگشتن به خونه ست (از سر کار یا سفر یا ...). و استعداد کورتیکیاتو رو تو استفاده از این موضوع، بدون اینکه عطرهاش بویی مشابه داشته باشن تحسین می کنم ـ اون کارها هرکدوم شخصیت خاص خودشون رو دارن، و این فقط یه امضا، یه الهام، و یک بیس مشترک هست که به صورتی بی نقص در این کارها بالانس شده، بطوریکه خاص و در عین حال ساده هست. هرچند، جدای از اینها، یوزو فو یکی از عطراییه که نسبت به بقیه کارهای پارفام دومپیه واسم جذابیت کمتری داره؛ اون زمینی/پودری بودنش خوب، یکپارچه و گرمه، ولی جدای از این، چیز بیشتری نداره ـ خوش ساخته، اما یه عطر مرکباتی/سبزِ تلخ و شیرین و ساده ست. اگه شما طرفدار پارفام دومپیه باشید ممکنه این رو به بقیه ترجیح بدید (همونطور که منم اینکارو خواهم کرد، فقط اگر هیچوقت شروع به استفاده عطرهای فرِش/مرکباتی نکنم ـ برای مثال اگه من غالبا کارهای شرقی استفاده کنم و بخوام بین همه کارهای شرقی ای که دارم یه عطر مرکباتی هم داشته باشم، به خاطر علاقم به پارفام دومپیه، این عطرو میخرم)، اما در غیر اینصورت، می ترسم هیچ دلیل خاص دیگه ای (بجز طرفدار این برند بودن) واسه انتخاب کردن این عطر بجای سایر "عطرای تابستانی" موجود، وجود نداشته باشه.

Parfum d'Empire YUZU FOU is a pretty wild and assertive presentation of yuzu, I'd have to say. I smell more rind than juice in this composition and am reminded very much of a number of citrus colognes, especially geared toward men, which feature such notes as agrumes and petit grain. (This one appears to contain kumquat.) The citrus oil really shines through here and makes for a very aromatic composition indeed. To me, YUZU FOU seems quite linear, with no real development, and that makes it quite a bit less wacky than it might have been. Consistency is such that it does not and cannot really surprise. Because of the oily citrus rind, YUZU FOU seems a bit heavy-handed for a hot weather scent, though the summery aspect of citrus makes it not that appealing for cooler weather either. This might be a rare case of a fragrance which I believe would benefit from dilution, since it a smaller spritz will still yield a concentrated spot of oil on the skin. All in all, I think it's safe to say that I'm not crazy about YUZU FOU. Désolée.

The reviewer that used the word "skank" was bang-on, though not in the same context I would submit. My wife tried this on, and while not entirely unpleasant, I took one smell and immediately got a cannabis vibe from it. Seriously. It's that strong, pungently green aroma from the verbena gone wild and untamed. It is so provocative, so prompting of a response. I had to breathe this again to confirm my suspicions. Yes. Cannabis. Burning cannabis. Reminiscent of a college roomie smoking up in the dorm room and the scent wafting under the door into the hall. This really made me wonder if there was a contact-high at the end of the experience. Provocative is a good word for it, but it seriously is a very lush and very different green than anything I've smelled in a fragrance. I'd be cautious wearing this unless you're very adventurous!

This is certainly a weird citrus...surprising, odd, nice and different. Strong and long lasting. I believe the odd note that some users perceive is the blend of a bitter kumquat, harsh yuzu and strong mint. I don't feel any skank in it, but these notes, blended together, really make a strange composition. But I like it quite a lot.mit is so fresh that it's almost itchy on your skin when applied. But I give it two thumbs up because of its freshness, boldness and for daring be different and opening a new path for citrus perfumes

this is what i get forget the note break down. Get a sour green mango the type that are extremely sour /sharp in taste, get some fresh coriander chop them in small pieces put the whole thing in a bowl, add some fresh mint/basil, and squeze a combination of sour citrus on top and inhale everything in the bowl. also this does not smell of cannabis as i have many friends who smoke it. Do not blind buy as it isnt your regular citrus. it is very sharp on the nose but well blended. worth a try.

Very nice yuzu grind in the first couple minutes, but I'm also totally with those who smelled skanky. Yes, a massive dose of sweat. Addictive or repulsive is entirely dependent on your taste and preference, but the body odor in this one is strong. This is literally a better, more natural, better blended version of Bergamask with the same citrus - musk combo, but again it is very subjective to personal taste. Absolutely NOT a safe citrusy blind buy.

Its very alike Jo Malone's Lime Basil & Mandarin. With Jo Malone, the scent stays just the same through the whole journey. Yuzu Fou on the other hand lays like a citrusblanket, soft but gives up on the basil quite fast. Im aware , or at least i see, that basil aint in it. Dont believe it! Haha. thin thin acuatic mint , that also turnes down pretty fast. At the end, a shy eau d' orange verte by hermes.

This sample hit me right straighht in the gut. I was so longing for a bright effervescent fragrance given all the notes but something had to rear its ugly head amidst all that citrus notes to turn me off completely. A strange VERY skanky ( and I really mean nether regions skanky) musky smell amidst all that citrus green notes and I never did get that bamboo note in there at all!

Am I a fou for yuzu? This is a fine celebration of the yuzu note, ...almost like an extreme form of bergamot. Mint adds kick, while vervain and other citri lightly sweeten the deal. I get what the poster below suggests about cumin, but its subtle. Overall, a pleasantly unusual fresh-citrus cologne. One that manages to achieve some degree of distinctivity.

I feel cheated! I got no skank from this. No sweaty armpits, no groin, nothing more adventurous than the cumin which appeared after a couple of minutes. Other than that this smells like a broader, bitterer, cumin-touched version of Eau Dynamisante: a little woody, a little fruity, a little balmy, a little spicy.

Cannabis, vetiver, green. Crisp, fizzy, tart yuzu. Bitter. Eau de Rochas Homme. Kouros YSL. 6/10 Refressing cooling effect on my skin like mint. In the dry down it has bitter animalic facets (cannabis leaves, castoreum) and it leans toward a fresh and bitter version of Kouros.
