Black Tar

Well, yes... I don't know if the name was originally intended to refer to heroin, as in everyday parlance, black tar is the black tar version of heroin. We'll talk about this type of opioid stimulant later. Let's focus on the scent. PART 1 Personally, I find this scent strangely narcotic – I like it and want to smell it, and it makes me want to search for similarities and discover the notes... I found some, guessed some, and have no idea others. There are definitely notes of juniper, wood, a strange, artificial rubbery scent (including a faint smoke of burning rubber, maybe it's patchouli combined with synthetics – I don't know), and a background of tuberose. It's great here and, in my opinion, forms the backbone of this perfume, but the backbone is very subdued – it lingers in the background throughout. The addition of this note, in my opinion, breaks the dark overtones of the entire fragrance, adding a hint of a "feminine element," including narcoticism, mystery, a light, veiled sweetness, and a strange metallic quality. This perfume has been very memorable to me since the moment I first smelled it and knew I wanted it. Oh, and it has good longevity, as does its intensity. The scent drew attention and curiosity – "what is this?" PART 2 Black Tar is black tar heroin – a specific variety of heroin. It looks significantly different from the regular powdered form, which is usually white or brown. All forms of heroin are derived from morphine, a strong opioid painkiller. Black tar heroin is a dark, rock-like form of heroin. Distinguishing powdered heroin from black tar is easy, even to the untrained eye, as black tar gets its name from its resemblance to roofing tar and is produced after a stage in the refining process. Black tar is often produced in Mexico and sold in areas west of the Mississippi River. Some South American and Asian countries are also known for its export. Due to the abundant supply of Mexican black tar, heroin is common in the western United States, such as Los Angeles. Similar to powdered heroin use, black tar use can lead to serious physical and mental health problems, including substance use disorders. Users of black tar heroin typically smoke or inject it after dissolving and diluting the drug. In most cases, it is injected into veins, muscles, or under the skin. However, it can also be heated on foil over an open flame and inhaled through a straw or similar device. "Black Tar" can also be mixed with hot water and sprayed into the nose. I had promised myself that I would not buy a new perfume anytime soon (I mean new bottles, not decants). But I happened to find something that took my breath away. Both the brand and the perfume, must be illustrious players, but unknown to almost everyone in the fragrance comunity. At least they were for me until now. Black Tar is dark, very dark, gloomy dark ... but it can show some light at the same time. It surprises by the juniper and cedar that are sober, earthy, cold, bitter, soft and just slightly green like a magical Tolkien forest. The balm is religious, mystical, and full of thick tarry smoke. The perfume unveils us both with a dark and shiny black mantle, as well as with a tip of clear and soft clarity. Alone in the middle of this whirlwind, a sweet white tuberose stands out and shines, tightened by swirls of smoke, but ready to illuminate that darkness. The scent is eerily somber but with a small and gentle candle in the middle of the blackness. The perfume seems to be reborn and transformed in each application. It's always different and it's always exciting. It is always both dark and light at the same time. It only asks to be used from dusk until dawn. Amouge and Marly's Parfums may cry with envy. Out of jealousy, Tom Ford may as well pull out all his hair. This is the real "Fucking Fabulous"! Think of a perfume that evokes Baccarat 540, but that is dark, full of incense, burnt rubber, and smoke .... You could also think of a Bvlgari Black or a Midnight In Paris, without any sweetness and a rampant balsamic darkness ... This is Black Tar. Amazing! The smokey opening really hits you and is strong af! The smokiness fades pretty quickly though, and it starts getting sweeter and sweeter but in a gentleman like way. It smells very rich and mature but artistic at the same time. Safe blind buy if you like smokey sweet fragrances.

Exactly as weird as I had hoped. Asphalt. Abrasive. Mineralic notes add intriguing texture to burning cade oil. It’s balanced out by smooth undertones of patchouli and tuberose, which remain very subtle but are critical to the composition. Love it. Exactly the kind of weird I look for.

Wearable? Well, it depends if you like extremely smoky, floral and loud scents.This one is all three together: a heavily smoked, loud tuberose with facets of burning rubber and Mexican food. Artfully weird...

Very artsy and super unique! I am a hedonist, so I enjoy weird things :) This is a layering scent for me - I mix it with my sweet scents, such as vanilla and praline. If I would use it on it's own then I would smell a bit like a fancy mechanic :) Motor oil, tar, petroleum, tuberose, black ink. Could be a signature scent of "The terminator" :) P.s. Reminds me of Black Afghano with an added note of roasted ham. The coffee and burnt rubber are also prominent.

Opens up sweet-metallic, but then very tuberose forward, with a guaiac wood assist, but somehow has this inky aura as a whole...and really just comes off as smoky sweet. A bit of a conundrum when you combine a note one likes and another that is avoided...on a separate note, this resembles exactly like an ANTIDŌT spray (I can't remember which one, but it's limited to the sneaker-glue selections), but as far as illustrating the smell of tar, it didn't seem like that way, but rather, in a black tar heroin that's suggested from the description (I'm just going with what's being suggested--I don't know what black tar heroin actually smells like). Putting 2 and 2 together I can't fathom the lack of inspiration and foresight (and really, any effort) the ANTIDŌT spray had (because it resembled this instead of sneakers/glue), but I digress--this is too tuberose forward for my taste, and the spray is frankly so much more intense than this (with less tuberose) if I wanted the olfactory experience.

To Bobby Gee below in the comments - I suspect that yes this may refer to the form of Heroin available which is called 'Black Tar'. There are certainly aspects of this one which conjure up olfactory association with this particular narcotics Aroma; mainly the burnt plastic scent and earthy aspect with the patchouli and vetiver (I agree this is likely created with some synthetics). However, what I have yet to find, and would love to find, in a perfume is a more photorealism take within a composition of Heroin. There are hints of it to be found in this one and some others, but they miss some things. If you happen to know the smell of smoking black heroin, which I have encountered, you'd know it is quite distinct. There is the burning plastic smell, vague industrial chemicals, burnt woods and most crucially the smell of vinegar! The vinegar and sour aspect that goes with the sweet burning rubber smell is the main character to be honest. In the background there will also be an earthiness and a sweetness found, which is a lot like the scent of rotting fruit. The scent is disturbing and not easy to forget.

This is one of those scents I wear on the days I feel like the world can go f*ck itself. I love resinous, unusual scents. As a kid I loved the scent of our damp cellar, just came there to enjoy it. Earthy, coming home. So unusual is fine with me. Black Tar is dark, heavy and -for me- a grounding scent. The olifactory equivalent of "touching grass"; connecting to reality. It makes me think of garages where cars are opened up and all sorts of oil and grime fill the air. I love it. Worth the investment.

Short review, this smells pretty much like fresh rubber tyres that have been a tiny bit burnt. It reminds me of the smell of bicycle shops. Not much development but interesting nonetheless. It's like a much less complex version of Blvgari black. If you like that rubber tyre thing? This will be your bag. For me, it's beyond a fragrance and much more a concept. Kinda cool, but I wouldn't wear it. :)

Sounded so promising, but I got a blast of dusty grape bubblegum, a moment of birch tar, then a dry down of gentlemanly oakmoss. Blech. Small headache too!
