Les Contes Bucoliques Clair de Rose

I find this to be a soft and somewhat powdery floral, due to the Musk and Vanilla combination, but still quite a pleasant fragrance. It's not over the top powdery like some perfumes, so is not an "old lady" smell. I don't think it smells anything like Bvlgari Rose Essentielle (as one of my favs). The Bvlgari is a richer, stronger rose to my nose, that's slightly woody and more complex. I think this will grow on me as a light day perfume, but I do generally prefer punchier perfumes.

I have smelled a lot of pink perfumes. Partly that's because pink perfumes seem to be easy to produce and appeal to the apparently many people out there who want an affable feminine scent. Many pink perfumes are too sugary or too synthetic for me really to enjoy. Berdoues Les Contes Bucoliques CLAIR DE ROSE, I am happy to report, is neither very sweet nor synthetic smelling. Compositionwise, this reminds me a bit of Bvlgari ROSE ESSENTIELLE, except that CLAIR DE ROSE smells more natural to me, and there seems to be just as much peony as there is rose. I also smell a touch of vanilla, and the musk provides a clean and inviting base. Above all, this peony-rose perfume appeals to me for the simple fact that the peony rendition used does not induce in me discomfort and malaise, which is something that cannot be said for the vast majority of peony-rich perfumes. This eau de toilette, like the other members of this series, Les Contes Bucoliques, has an aqueous not resinous quality--rather like the smell of flowers after a rain. All in all, I'd say that CLAIR DE ROSE is a pleasant, albeit simple, floral composition which makes pink peony perfumes a possible category for me once again.
