Pegasus Exclusif

I remember reviewing the original Pegasus a while ago and enjoying it. So when I saw a sample of this for sale on the cheap, I figured it made sense for me to go ahead and try this one as well. Now if I'm correct, and I'm able to extrapolate what this may smell like based on the differences I experienced between Layton and Layton Exclusif, this should be a darker, woodier, oud-y version of Pegasus. Let's get into it; Scent: The opening is woody, sweet, and powdery. The primary notes I get are bitter almond, vanilla, oud, and guaiac wood. The strongest of the notes are the vanilla and almond. The vanilla hits you first with its signature creamy sweetness, not super natural but not synthetic either; think vanilla extract. Right after that initial hit of vanilla comes a follow up from the bitter almond; powdery, nutty, and bittersweet. The almond does have a natural smell to it, and together with the vanilla reminds me of a bowl of candied almonds. This is followed by the oud and guaiac wood. The oud is instantly noticeable in the opening with its distinct powerful woodiness. It has a little bit of an animalic funk to it, but not enough to come across as challenging. Lastly, the guaiac wood rounds out the opening with a strong and slightly smoky woodiness. The dry down is still woody, sweet, and powdery, and the primary notes are still vanilla, almond, oud, and guaiac wood. The dry down is virtually the same as the opening, with the exception of the woods being more ramped up. However, it's still a vanilla and almond dominant scent. I do get a healthy amount of warm spiciness from the cardamom in the dry down as well. Far in the background I also get hints of the sandalwood and amber. Performance: Initial projection is very strong and fills a room. Sillage matches that energy with a heavy scent trail. After a few hours the projection had died down to about 5-6 feet and the scent trail was not as loud but still noticeable. At the 7 hour mark the projection was within arms length and the scent trail was still lightly noticeable. The fragrance became a skin scent about an hour later. When to wear: This is a fall/winter fragrance that is suitable for daytime or evening wear. The heavy woods and vanilla make it a good pick for the evening, but the powdery almond brightens it up enough to be appropriate for daytime as well. In terms of versatility, I would consider this a special occasion fragrance. It's something I would wear on a date or to a formal occasion, but not something I would wear casually or to the office. Blind buy: This is not necessarily a safe blind buy. When compared to original Pegasus, that one is much more mass-appealing. Pegasus Exclusif has the strong oud/woods that set it apart and make it a bit more difficult to pull off. If you like Pegasus, or sweet/almond fragrances, get your nose on this one to see if it's your flavor. Final verdict: This ended up being a much better experience than what I expected. The heavy woods and oud blended seamlessly with the vanilla and almond to create a sweet and vanillic fragrance with a healthy dose of masculinity. As much as I enjoyed Pegasus, I think Pegasus Exclusif is a definite improvement. I don't feel it's redundant to own both as they are different enough, but I personally feel that I only need Pegasus Exclusif to be happy. I will be getting a full bottle of this when possible. First Impression (early 2021 batch / 1020347) God 10/10 I got almond since the very beginning. Tasty butter almonds with some bitterness. I need full 3 wears for complete review. ****** Pegasus Excusif is something I won’t call a superior version of Pegasus. I would call it a flanker or other rendition to make the scent fuller, denser, heady. The scent is opening with Almond. Similar to Pegasus. However, the woody / bitter-oud undertone Reveal itself prominently. Their is more gourmand aspect to Pegasus-exclusif. Sweet, woody remind me of butter and chocolate. As the scent develope. It is drop the almond a bit but warm, inviting sensual realistic wood introduce to the screen. It’s very pleasant and luxuriou. This is not hard to wear or polarizing . This is warm, welcoming woody / sweet undertone that still inviting but the scent still give impression of class that might be a bit hard to reach. I would say this suits evening formal corporate function better than formal dinner. But I can guarantee you one thing that PDM’s almond fragrance is the best I have test so far. I would rate this 10/10 if I really like Almond and live in cold weather. But I would rate this to 9/10 personally. I find it a bit too rich in Almond and for my country, The weather is not appropriate for daily wear. ***** Update 2 on March 3, 2024 I decide to wear this one today. I feel like I would like to wear something out of my main olfactive, I remember I really enjoy my bottle. The top, still get me that tasty almond feel is very enjoyable. But experience do change, I am now receive something more in realm of woody-spicy sweet scent. Majority experience is Powdery Almondy Woody with Powderiness form Heliotrope, a tint of Balsamic tone and support by soft spiciness "Cinnamon" like. In the middle, I get whip from time to time. The scent develop into more warm woody scent as we walk to the base, the smooth Iso-E sandalwood with tint of raw material like ingredient enhance feel nicely, If there is an oud, it is just Oudy effect... (If you understand this.. that mild odor from oud majority of late fragrance had). It is no real oud strong here for sure. The scent during late dry down reminds me softly of Bouquet Ideal by Casamorati a bit. It is just not as sweet. Ok, so I also wear Pegasus again for comparison, I want to mention that during dry down of Pegasus. It kinda link to this one. Like they use the base of Pegasus, stronger from the beginning, enhance with spicy tone and mild Oudy tone to make a fragrance a bit more oreintal, more noble. Pegasus Exclusif, Imho. are more preferred than Pegasus. As It a bit more woodier. Sweeter and more Oreintal but Pegasus is easier to use in daily life as I late dry down link here. It is nice sweet oudy powdery woody scent. My over all score change a bit. But I still enjoy. This review was a long time coming because I wanted to be sure I wasn't dreaming. Layton Exclusif is one of my signature scents. I love the original Layton but that Exclusif twist is just amazing. I absolutely hate the original Pegasus. It's crazy sweet, much too "fake almond" (like almond extract), too overbearing for me. I don't like it on strip and on my skin it turns into an abhorrent, buttermilk-ish/soured almond milk. As such, for the longest time I didn't even bother trying the Exclusif version since I hated the original Pegasus. In the case of Layton, I find that the original and the Exclusif are pretty close, with only the added oud note and a deeper, slightly darker accord. Pegasus Exclusif is *not* like that. It's an entirely different beast. Right from the opening, the oud greets you. Some would say it's a little funky, I find it rather mild compared to deeper, more skanky oud (Indian, for example) with fecal vibes. It's milder than in Haltane where the oud is very present and off-putting in the opening to some. The almond and vanilla are definitely there but the wood notes overtake them (and somehow the vanilla is much stronger than the almond on my skin), making it deeper, richer and much darker and sexier. It kills some of the overbearing sweetness I can't bear from the original. On my skin, it doesn't change all too much from the opening except for the oud softening and the sandalwood in the drydown making itself known. Dressed up, this will turn heads, for sure. I personally find it rather pleasant on its own, warming and comforting for cold rainy fall days. Don't be afraid to sample this even if you don't like the original Pegasus! This is straight up FB worthy for me.

Ownership status: Full bottle Release year: 2020 How I tested it: Multiple wears I absolutely love everything about Pegasus. I didn't think that beautiful ambery-sandalwood drydown could get any better until I tried this. I had some time to kill at an airport and stopped by the PDM outlet. I already knew I loved the original Pegasus, and I walked in planning on buying it. But Pegasus Exclusif caught my eye, so I figured I'd try that first. And I'm glad I did. Without hesitation, I bought that on the spot, and now it's competing with a couple other perfumes for my number one of all time (I still can't decide). Exclusif takes that same “barbertrope” DNA (barbershop+heliotrope) and deepens it. It amps up the powerful woody-amber notes and adds oud, which transforms the atmosphere. Oud+heliotropin is an unreal combination. Exclusif feels richer, more dimensional, and more mature without losing the identity that I love about the original. Besides the increased amber and woody notes, there are smoother, woodier spices to complement the base notes and also a subtle rosy facet which wasn't prevalent in the original. It's not very noticeable but it adds a pop of color that rounds everything out perfectly. And, of course, with all of that norlimbanol, oud, and powerful sandalwood materials, this projects like a beast. Just like Pegasus, I don't have anything bad to say about this. It takes what I loved and intensifies it in the most satisfying way possible.
