Nagada

This is a peach-hued, bramble-tinted glimmer in a haze of aromatics: davana resembling drupe tisane, inhaling a jar of dried chamomile flowers, rose water on warm skin, muddled with spiced cake until its swallowed by a eucalyptus grove. Nagada is another warped wonder from the 90s that faded into obscurity and is ripe for rediscovery for the right olfactory adventurer. It's fun and confounding at the same time, deceiving you into thinking at first it's an easy, 'set it and forget it' wear, "well this is a nice 90s also ran, inoffensive, not bad!" But wait, what stirs in the background? What is the story with this eucalyptus grove, this herbal, almost medicinal woods lurking in the shadows? It turns out that beyond the pleasant sparkle and soft shimmer is a delicious bittersweet powder and soft focus patchouli. What a distinct delight! Side note, a "nagada" (naghara) is an Indian drum, used for rhythmic sounds, often played with sticks, on two drums, one treble, the other base. It has frequent use in Hindu temples, and during ceremonies and weddings. I recommend viewing some videos online to listen to this percussion instrument in action; listening to nagadas is as distinct an experience as this fragrance.

Nagada è un profumo evocativo, intenso, profondo. Partiamo dalla storia della boccetta: un richiamo ai contenitori di unguenti ed olii utilizzati nella civiltà egizia predinastica, che aveva il suo fulcro nella città di Nagada appunto. All'interno della scatola ritroviamo riportato il disegno tecnico della boccetta stessa, come fosse una bozza preparativa ma allo stesso tempo richiama le tavole tecniche che si realizzano per studiare gli oggetti ritrovati in uno scavo archeologico. Già solo per questo merita l'acquisto. La fragranza è particolarmente aromatica, resinosa, speziato, molto simile ad un dopobarba, ma anche dolce ed evocativa. Molto particolare e senza tempo. Persistenza e sillage notevoli, consiglio pochi spruzzi.

Received this from France. Was skeptical.....but wow it shipped and got here in less than a week!! Nagada....is a classic chypre....similar to many others of it's kind....but I loved it at first sniff. It reminds me in parts of scents like : Montana Parfum de Peau, Sisley Eau de Soir, Jean Louis Scherrer....ect.... However, this scent is sort of more "sparkly", for lack of a better word. I guess I could call it a fruity chypre and a green chypre at different parts of the wearing. Performance is pretty good too. This smells vintage and classic. I am curious to buy Fauve Nagada and/or Rose Nagada from the same seller. We'll see.

Love love love this! So warm,sweet but not sickly, slightly spicy! Just so beautiful- I have a miniature, just bought for me a larger bottle! Adore this!

A lovely spicy herbal wood scent, with a hint of eucalyptus and aniseed. It dries down into a warm aromatic (yet not a heavy spice bomb such as Clinique's AE) with a gentle play between woods, greens, and soft fruity notes, which work really well together and make this a beautiful winner -present but not overwhelming, distinct but not eccentric- for a small price. En bref, this more warmblooded cousin of the marvelous coldhearted Perles de Lalique is a very solid like!

I just bought this lovely fragrance today and each hour that goes by it just smells better and better!

A chypre floral that drys down to a powdery woody base. Lovely a great perfume for the price.
