Optimistic for Him

this fragrance is one of the best summerfragrances ive tried!, its very fresch, really recommend it!!

Tested this on paper today and so far I like it. Reminded me of Egoiste Platinum sweetened up with a touch of Allure Homme Sport. Pepper, flowers, vertiver and citrus notes in the top create that simular vibe I guess. (edit) So yes: totally agree with Brettyboy below on Platinum. Like the name suggests a very bright and happy spring/summer fragrance. Will try this again soon on my skin. So far so good: 7/10

I am slightly dissapointed with it... Nothing wrong with the scent itself. I agree with others on this being Egoiste clone... The longivity is poor and does not stay on your skin at all. I spray my cloths instead and it seems to prolong its life:) But hey, paid £21 for 100ml, so for the price this is good. Would rate it 8 out of 10

Really good for summer, doesn't last too long on my skin. Optimistic could be the little brother of Chanel Egoiste Platinum.

very fresh bright a bit wider citrus-smell- i enjoy wearing it, but its not something that really stands out to me :)

Fragrance in three words: Office Safe Aquatic Top notes are bright citrus. I get a lemon and orange (not Bergamot) mixed together and very light pepper. This has an aqua or blue feel running through it with a slightly salty, fresh linen vibe. I thought it contained basil, but the note listed is sage, so there's something slightly green. A big note of soft powdery vetiver runs through this and light musky cedar wood. Overall this is an inoffensive easygoing fragrance. It's more of a hot weather scent. One site lists the RRP as £49 for 100ml, but it was often discounted to around £20. It was about on par with CK and Davidoff in terms of price. The scent appears to be discontinued in 2020 along with Optimistic For Her (2011). Bottles are getting hard to come by, but the prices haven't spiked as much as Paul Smith London for Men (2004) due to a lack of demand. Sillage and projection are both moderate. The fragrance lasted around 5 hours on skin. This scores a solid, but unremarkable 6 out of 10 from me. Source: Official 2ml sample.

I like Paul Smith fragrances but this one is not right. Overwhelming artificial citrus smell does not let this one evolve as it should. Paul Smith goes mainstream targeting the young crowd but the result is not good at all. Boring, linear, synthetic smelling citrus juice. And yes I waited for 6 hours and it still wasnt going anywhere. Thumbs down.

I have to admit, i bought this only because of the bottle. I was online and because i didn't find what i was looking for, i saw 'Optimistic' and thought, with such a great bottle, the fragrance can't be that bad... Was I wrong... It's not bad, it's terrible. It smells like an old deodorant from the 90s. I don't recommend it.

I tried this today in Boots the chemist...no fanfare,no big display..just sitting shyly in the glass cabinet. Now, most big releases are exclusive to Harrods or selfridges in England but i have not seen this anywhere else other than Boots...which is not the best sign. Anyway, i digress, As others have stated this is the most un-Paul Smith bottle ever. You would not know it was from them unless you see the little mult-coloured stripe in the corner. The craziest thing is the smell; I was expecting a citrus blast due the name but in fact it is a 100% total rip-off of Platinum egoiste...right down to the blood/metallic note. I would be really interested to know what others think as it hit me straight away. PS: Just looked at the notes for platinum egoiste and they are almost identical to Optimistic. I find it very strange that in 2011 somebody would want to copy an early 90'sfragrance. UPDATE: I won a bottle on ebay cheap and i have really grown to like it.I will say one thing for this fragrance, it lasts for ages. I sprayed it at 11 in the morning and now at 8 it still smells strong. The drydown smells very,very similar to Abercrombie & Fitch Fierce.

At first spray I instantly thought this smells very simular to Lanvin Homme. Then it becomes very dry with the pepper,sage and marine notes wafting around. I like the dry down of the vetiver, woody cedar and amber. This is great for a day time fragrance for work or even after the gym. I would call this a very safe fragrance and it's very discreet for all occassions. Got to admit when this dries right down it smells very salty on my skin simular to DSquared Ocean Wet Woods.

This looks weird for classic british designer Paul smith. Name and bottle do not seem Paul Smith. Does anyone know if another company make the Paul Smith colognes? Lets see what the notes are like. Long gone are the days of Paul Smith London, a true discontinued classic!

Paul Smith Optimistic for Him is a copy of Chanel Platinum Egoiste. Not a sweeter or fruity copy (like A&F Fierce or Montblanc Legend) but virtually a 100 % clone, maybe a bit more citrusy. Fortunately, Optimistic costs appreciably less, so why not?

top note smells like mont blanc legend and the base is like platinum egoist. little synthetic... but ok for daily wear.
