Amicus Cumulus

I managed to score a secondhand discovery kit and this was the first one I tested. I was super intrigued by this line and especially this scent. I will warn people not to blind buy based on the listed accords here. This is a very unique scent! It does “niche” better and truer than so many other duds I’ve smelled. It smells like rain clouds, absolutely. Other scents I’ve tried have attempted humidity, fog, etc, but none managed convince my stubborn nose. I agree, more of a city pavement rain than the country. When it first opens it smells a bit like an old school powder laundry detergent. The laundry suds fade after a few minutes and the clouds roll in. I agree with the other reviewer who said it also has a “pool chlorine” type of scent too further in, as the sweetness emerges. I wouldn’t consider this a very sweet fragrance overall, definitely not gourmand. It has a slightly sweet strawberry fruity base that keeps it smelling good, opposed to smelling like chemicals or something unwearable. The strawberry isn’t loud or obvious. Overall the fragrance comes off as ozonic, aquatic, fresh-green, slightly spicy, with a light fruity sweet base. Ultimately gives a unique summer skin fresh from swimming or playing in a garden sprinkler vibe different from any other fragrances I’ve smelled. Usually scents like this vanish on my skin in record time. This surprisingly lasts though it is a bit more soft/intimate. I now officially want a bottle. This would be perfect for spring and summer days when I need a bit of a cool down/refresher. I love it, but I will recommend people test before buying as it is a bit strange and lacks anything mainstream designer or fruity gourmand that is popular nowadays. Truly unique! Update: I couldn’t stop thinking about how this scent reminded me of Chicago during rain storms, which is where I spent the first 26 years of my life. I then read that the designer is Chicago based. I wish I could give extra points to this scent for so accurately capturing the (frequent, if you live there) scent of clouds rolling in and drizzling on the city pavement, a scent I often long for now that I live in a dry California desert sandbox. Definitely will be ordering a FB as soon as I can!

whew. me and this fragrance have gone on a JOURNEY together this past week. i sprayed it on a tester while i was sniffing through the pearfat discovery set, and at first i thought the licorice was way too strong and off-putting, but i thought, ok, i was expecting to like some of the other scents more anyway. a few minutes later i pick up the tester again and i’m in love with it and had to spray it on my skin. the licorice is strong for the first minute, but it really quickly dries down and you get some of that strawberry and tea. something is sweet and lactonic. it’s like a strawberry milk tea with a little edge from the licorice. i love the concept behind this fragrance and i’ve been wearing it on sunny and rainy days alike. it lasts about 4-5 hours on me, but i wear a friendship bracelet and i can smell it on there for 12+ hours. there’s just such a comforting quality to it. so excited to get a bigger bottle! also, i just love pearfat in general, and alie is so cool. the discovery set came in such a cute lil box with a sticker and a handwritten note. small businesses and indie brands are unmatched!!

amicus means friend and cumulus means clouds. im so surprised by how many negative reviews this has, i think this is actually my favourite pearfat fragrance from the discovery set which is weird because i anticipated it being my least favourite. i always have such a hard time describing this, but to me it feels like a chilly, early spring morning. sunny, but with a threat of rain over the horizon line, puffy dark clouds forming in the distance. cumulus! it's heady and playful (amicus) from the strawberry, but weirdly sophisticated at the same time from the oolong. i actually barely get liquorice. very complex, definitely unlike anything i've ever smelled before. i've been wearing it every day lately, it will forever remind me of my morning walks to class in the last semester of my undergrad.

got the discovery set and settled on a 15ml of this, so i’ll review it first (i’ll get to all of them as i get to know them!) . give me grace i don’t think i’ve ever really tried to write about smell before (trying to change that) this is so so lovely .. reminds me of spring before all the flowers get started up; not so much the dirt but yes the cold air — but there’s some warmth too, probably from from the tea. i think the cold smell is the licorice root— it’s prominent for the first hour or so and then fades back into a creamy, kind of fresh smell. i suspect it’ll shine even more when the weather gets just a liiiiitle bit warmer (i’m only asking for low 50s) but i like it now too.

This scent is GORGEOUS. I always get tons of compliments when I wear it! Upon initially smelling it I definitely get the Oolong tea right away along with powdery strawberry flavored gum, it smells like something I want to drink with boba. It has a gentle spiciness to it that I don't register as licorice but the spice is definitely there. It definitely has an earthy root/spice undertone, it kind of reminds me of black pepper. Overall perfect scent for a warm sunny day! It definitely evokes the comforting feeling of walking outside to see the fluffiest white clouds scattered across a vividly blue sky.

This is my first purchase from Pearfat and I’m off to a strong start. This scent opens very green and a little pungent, like loam and rhubarb. It invokes fresh green sprouts more than a candy strawberry, and the licorice is smartingly sharp and anise-y. It pretty quickly mellows into a sweeter, juicier true strawberry while maintaining a strong green, herby undertone. For me the milk oolong is very subtle, maybe a touch of bitterness and creaminess like dregs at the bottom of the tea cup. Blooms beautifully on skin, and very unique and captivating.

Another win from Pearfat. All of the fruity fragrances I've tried from their line have had a fresh, sticky, candied body to them without being overly sweet, and Amicus Cumulus is no exception. The opening is anise-heavy, but it quickly melts into a drizzly, eerie strawberry-oolong heart. The character almost reminds me of sugar-free strawberry boba tea: robust and flavorful, milky with a hint of spice, but not sugary. This is a fun one. I can see this being incredible to wear in the Spring, or on a rainy day.

This smell is so new to me, it was weird at first but then I was like, wait, they’re onto something, started smelling it more, noticed how it dried down, etc and now I can say that: On the opening , this smells like opening a freezer, and there’s a whole bunch of strawberry inside. As it progresses, the oolong tea and licorice go up. It has a sweet and fresh profile, and I mean fresh as in cold, hence the “freezer” thing, but in the best way possible. It smells like a carefree spring baking strawberry pies.

the smell of summer. opens with the ozonic notes reminiscent of the tall fluffy clouds in the name. Then tea like parched grass. On me those faded pretty quickly and I am left with chlorine, sunscreen, and melting popsicles. I have been wearing it 15min now and it has been getting sweeter the whole time. I normally can't stand licorice or gourmands, but I am loving this experience and it does not smell like food.

This is so unique. To me it smells like grass, and cotton candy scented smencils pencil. It’s a very nostalgic fragrance for me for that reason. I can smell the licorice and strawberry, in that if I try, but without looking at the notes that’s what it shows up as for me. I think the oolong tea is what gives the woodiness of the pencil to me, and the strawberry gives me cotton candy vibes.

This is a super interesting fragrance, it’s unlike anything I’ve smelled before. I have a hard time describing it. It’s a sweet, airy, almost milky, with a slight spice to it. It starts a bit more bright, and airy with the licorice and strawberry, and warms up as time goes on to a sweet, milky oolong. Milk oolong is my favorite tea, this reminds me of drinking a good cup.

The licorice note pulls through heavy with this one, accompanied shortly with that herbal oolong tea note and left off with a sweet and subtle strawberry. I love this, it's ozonic and smells just like a misty and cloudy sky. I feel as if a wizard would smell like this, airy yet dank and interesting. I love the touch of sweetness you get with the strawberry.

8.4/10 This is my third favorite Pearfat perfume behind Multiball and I'll Never Learn. This scent has two things I love: strawberry 🍓 and black tea 🍵 and it's equally balanced. It does smell like a strawberry iced tea from you favorite cafe on a summer day. It's one of the strongest perfumes in this line which is why it'll be in my pear trio.

i keep lifting my wrist to sniff this. earthy, sweet but clean? maybe the reminiscence of clouds. it smells like i spilled tea on my freshly washed bedsheets, and the detergent i used wafts up with the oolong. its very comforting in a medicinal/tea shop way, and the strawberry keeps it sweet enough to not be too pungent.

I'm not sure if it's just me but this to me smells like a slightly nicer version of Rabbit Rabbit by this brand; it's purely lactonic. I would buy this though! Just a quick heads up though that at least in my opinion, the opening smells like a mild hint of puke and cucumber water 🙊 haha

oolong tea steeped for way too long + a sticky sweet licorice root + eating one too many strawberry lollipops before bed. a storm is brewing in the distance and it’s rattling the windows...or maybe you had too much cough syrup and it’s all a weird dream.

Like enjoying a powdery strawberry candy on your porch with a warm cup of milk during a spring downpour. Everyone who dislikes this is blatantly wrong and I'm not sorry. This is incredible.

Guys... I can’t believe it. Has a perfume ever made you CRY before? This is my first one EVER! I captured it on video too, my first time smelling it. I held the test strip close to my chest immediately. I looked off into the distance and a wistful smile surfaced. Then all of the sudden tears started coming from my eyes. I of course was laughing too, because how ridiculous is it for a smell to make you cry? As I was rambling and trying to wrap my head around it, finally, it came out: it reminds me of playing old-school Animal Crossing. The menu opens and the music starts playing and you’re transported into a world where everything is beautiful but none of it is real. I landed at the end of my tearful journey with the statement: “it’s precious. the kind of thing you remember more positively than it probably actually was. like it’s too good to be true.” As it developed on a test strip, the oolong dialed down and the synthetic strawberry dialed up. I liked it less. That said, I have not smelled this on my skin yet and I have a feeling when I do that I won’t be able to resist it. Amazing work, Pearfat. Listen to their storytelling for this fragrance and you’ll see that they achieved (for me at least) exactly what kind of liminal longing and nostalgia they were going for: “It’s about to rain, but for now, the sun’s still out, illuminating the fringes of clouds that seem so full of water it’s a wonder they stay in the sky. Her tea is on the table inside, in danger of getting cold, but she can’t help but stand in the yard in wonder: how can something this soft be so mighty? It’s only the first week of March, and the world is still paralyzed from what felt like the longest winter so far, but she notices something out of the corner of her eye: a single strawberry amidst the grey-green leaves of her defrosting garden.”

I get a strong licorice opening with a synthetic feel that is kind of fuzzy and nice. Definitely looking up at city clouds, not country clouds. The zing of a cosmetic-like scent blending with milky oolong and licorice and a slightly tart sweetness that must be strawberry makes me feel like a woman doing her makeup in the morning on an overcast day. It is cheerful. My boyfriend smells it and says it reminds him of a crusty box of inherited oil pastels–”which is a good thing! The pigment’s starting to separate from the oil a little bit.” We agree that it’s a synthetic element to the fragrance that is really pleasant and a bit nostalgic. More oolong-forward as it dries, definitely lactonic. All melted together into sticky milky sweet that isn’t too sugary. I don't get any green notes, but I do get a waxy doll head note even though this isn't Kewpie Doll. It's very different from perfumes I usually like, but it's really nice. A single spray is almost too strong for me, so I could see this being irritating to people who aren't into perfume. Wouldn't want to wear it in an office setting or anything like that. Curious to come back to it and see if it's changed in a couple of months.

The summer has just begun as you meet up with your friends after school to go run around and play basketball, go to the pool, and do dumb stuff. It’s the first day and the freeing feeling you have will never be the same after today. After awhile you make it back to your friends house where his mom made you one of the best midwestern summer treats ever: whipped cream and strawberries. It’s too early for the strawberries to be really good so they smell very green and almost vegetal off the first spray. The licorice and oolong making this light and fluffy cream below it as support in the beginning but regaining harmony as it begins to dry down. This is NOT a gourmand. This is NOT a green fragrance. It is is somehow BOTH. I think if you are at all interested in niche or weird fragrances, you gotta get your nose on this. This is such a unique combo of notes and the subsequent accords that I can’t recommend this enough; even just to try it. Ultra unisex, it rides more green on me at first but it’s entirely chemistry dependent.

Upon first inspection, this taken directly out the package was already permeating the box. It is thick and green and vegetal, with something standing out that’s almost peppery. The strawberry here is sharp and potent, like strawberry flavored corn syrup and bruised berry flesh. Smells red. Then comes a phase when sprayed where the strawberry smells like sticky spilled juice and grass on the skin. The oolong tea, I find, gives it an oriental floral complexity on the drydown that’s almost like sniffing a big bushel of asiatic lilies. Think stargazer lilies, buttery and floral. Then a creamy grassy floral, like the memory of lilies and strawberry jam at a tea party. The beginning is a LOT and quite potent, but if you give it time to relax on the skin it becomes unique and complex. Quite beautiful.

This smells suprisingly dusty? When I smelled it directly after spraying it the scent kind of hit the back of my throat. Probably the licorice. The more I smell it, the more whiffs of strawberry I get. More spicy than I would've imagined. I don't have any scent that comes close to this. To me this smells like a bag of really salty licorice with a singular haribo strawberry candy mixed up in it. Don't really get any tea, but maybe that's the dusty scent I'm picking up on. I like it. Definitely more soft spicy than sweet in my opinion.

I am typically a white florals and tea scent HATER but Amicus Cumulus is delicate enough on these notes. My very first impressions were "mango salsa, sweet licorice, slight aquatic." It quickly warms up to become strawberry chew (think: shoving your face into a newly opened bottle of Nature's Bounty hair skin & nails collagen gummies), cream, a trace of cinnamon, and ummmmmm... piss. Literally urine. Maybe in an "accentuating-pheromones" kind of way, hopefully? Will wear to a bar & report back.

Super sweet, yet also salty and metallic. I really like this one! It’s super innovative and doesn’t smell like anything else on the market. It’s not quite a petrichor scent, but it reminds me of how the atmosphere smells right before a thunderstorm or even a snowstorm. It smells like what a grey-sky day feels like. Oddly haunting. Definitely not for everyone but fits a certain sort of carefree hipster type of person, or genuine free spirits. I can see a college professor wearing this.

This scent is eccentric, whimsical, and strange in the absolute best way. It’s a hazy, atmospheric blend of oolong tea and juicy strawberry, grounded by the dark, herbal edge of black licorice. Most prominent notes on my skin: oolong tea, strawberries, and black licorice. Smells Like: A picnic on a cloud during a summer storm; ethereal, sweet, and wonderfully weird.

This is one of the headiest, most captivating scents I’ve ever come across. I don’t even know what I’m smelling but it smells like nuts, clouds and fornication. It’s really strong and might not be for everyone. This is what Grenouille was striving for in Patrick Suskind’s Perfume. It’s that intense and sensual. I LOVE IT in small doses!

opens with a powdery soft sweetness like the smell of old women and hard candy, then dries down to a subtly lasting, slightly peppery honey smell, which can sometimes verge on cloying. if you have had really good taiwanese high mountain oolong, it has a strong natural honey flavor, which i definitely get from this. lasts fairly well

This scent feels so unique. The first time I sprayed for a test I thought I was smelling ylang and citruses. My first skin wear, to me smells like mincemeat to my partner, hot crossed buns. So bakery. But its a super unique gourmand, my experience is not extensive, but I feel I've never smelled anything like it.

When I wore this I did not look at the notes until later, and it began to make a lot more sense to me. At first, I just smelled pineapple. This is a very sweet scent in my opinion, and as it developed I just smelled candy. This, upon reviewing the notes, was the licorice. The tea scent is always there, I feel like it is what adds to the slightly atmospheric tone of the perfume. The tea mixed with the licorice also just kind of makes it smell like old people to me. Not old lady perfume like literally the scent of old people. I did not get a ton of strawberry, or perhaps I was and that is what made this smell like old lady candy. This sounds like a bad review. I don't think it smelled bad it was just so not for me. When I smelled this I did not know who this person was, I did not see her when I looked in the mirror.

To be honest, this perfume left me disappointed. I’ve been wanting to try pearfat for a while, and this certainly isn’t the scent for me. Its very strong, in your face. Smells like when you walk into to lush, but not in the best way. It’s not terrible but it’s a bit intense in not my favorite ways. I look forward to trying other pearfat scents though

Pearfat might be the most innovative indie house out there right now. There truly is nothing else like them and the perfumer isn't afraid to do something completely out of left field. That being said this one was just not for me! I think it's the licorice note? Something reminded me of an under-chlorinated pool. I fully respect the vision, however.

this is.. interesting! i'm a licorice hater so it was never going to be for me to be fair lmao. i don't HATE it so that's a feat i guess! it's very earthy from the tea with a hint of sweetness, all drowned out by overwhelming licorice. overall rating: 🩷🩷💔🖤🖤 2.5/5

Reminds me of fibreglass insulation with how sharply it hits my nose

Okay -- I am extremely annoyed that the only perfumes I ended up disliking from this batch were from the house I thought was going to be the most unique. Amicus Cumulus was a perfume I was hoping was going to transform into a more sweet licorice sort of smell, kind of like a Twizzler in that regard. And the result was... eh? I mean, it definitely had a strong, really synthetic strawberry smell. It smells like if you got that Twizzler, covered it in Hershey's strawberry syrup, and then took a huge bite of it. Maybe I'm exaggerating and maybe I just don't like artificial strawberry smells that much, but I didn't smell a lot of licorice in this. I also didn't smell any tea in this, either. To be entirely fair and truthful, I only sprayed it on paper and didn't try it on myself. But I doubt that I would've liked it any more if I put it there. I think that the only reason why I didn't mark myself as hating it is because I think that it's an interesting idea on paper, and it's something that could be mixed with other fruity smells. To be frank, though, I feel like this is a good scent for a little girl to wear.

well this was a humbling test of my olfactory detection skills that i absolutely failed. i swore i smelled coconut and vague ozonic notes. but no. and that spiky-not-unfriendly abrasiveness was not bug spray but, in fact, licorice?!? and there's strawberry??! sure jan. definitely has that ethereal factory-in-the-sky/midwestern concrete jungle pearfat DNA. sadly not my jam though i wanted it to be; in theory im a sucker for all things cloudly. curious to see what my friends think.

It smells like Tiger Balm up top. Also like this green Chinese ointment called feng you jing. That scent association really drowns out the other notes for me. If you had an East Asian childhood, I'm curious what comes up for you. I'm mostly just reminded of being sick as a kid. Not my favorite from this brand, but I do appreciate the inventiveness of their scents. I really like many others from this line -- I Broke My Own Heart and Multiball are great ones.

I wanted to like this one so much based off the notes and reviews but wow what a crazy licorice bomb :( it opens with a nice strawberry note that slightly candied and fresh but you quickly get a big dose of licorice that feels overly spiced and oversteeped tea leaves. It just smells astringent and overtly in your face spiced + aromatic. It could’ve just been my nose as it seems other ppl love this, but it was just not for me at all sadly

This scent is so strange. I really thought I was going to love it because I love licorice but I'm not getting that at all. To me it smells like artificial strawberry and something medicinal... I'm having a hard time placing it but I would call it "generically astringent." It's not the worst thing ever. I keep lifting up my wrist to smell it because it is interesting, but I can't see myself ever wearing it out.

80s arcade carpet psychedelia. smoky, dusty, old, sweet, nostalgic, unique: a little lavender? vintage perfume plus childish candy sensibilities. dusty but expansive, dried tea leaves and sticky fruit tea residue on a wooden table in your friends' parents' open-air house. they're rolling a joint. the version of you an alternate universe granddaughter imagines from old photographs.

smells overpoweringly like black licorice on me. not much sweetness, i can't smell the strawberry. drydown is a little powdery. unique fragrance. a grandma's glass plate of licorice and hard candies that you try every now and then as you think to yourself "hmm might as well have one!" only to find it incredibly mid and remember why you didn't eat it

It's...fine. The licorice really beats me up straight out the bottle. Like many others, I'm not the biggest fan of licorice but I can appreciate it when mixed well. This does not do that for me. Once the licorice settles down a little, it's relatively inoffensive but nothing spectacular.

Bang on with the strawberry, but coded in herbs, which is supposed is the oolong tea. It’s like strawberry medicine in an odd way. This is not for me personally at all, but I don’t dislike it. Actually maybe I do. I can’t quite tell.

I smell bug spray at the top of this! Not sure what that's about. This does smell vaguely sweet and milky, but I don't get any licorice. I love the description of anticipating spring, but this is a pass for me.

i am getting nothing but licorice in this. genuinely it is so prominent you have to be in love with black licorice to enjoy this scent to its fullest and unfortunately i am not

I'm hoping I just sprayed too much of it, because I want to like this so bad, but the licorice comes through SO STRONG for me.

I was so excited for this one but oh boy does this not work for me. There are certain teas (normally very nice ones) that smell just a smidge like bile and this has that quality for me. The licorice note is also neither a true licorice root scent nor a good n' plenty or licorice whip candy scent; it's a salty, Nordic style salmiakki. I love licorice, I really do, especially licorice tea, but salmiakki smells like poison and I can't get past that. My darling Finnish friend once sent me a bag of candy and I genuinely couldn't get myself to eat that salty licorice, I'm sorry for failing you Finns and for failing to see this perfumers vision

Oh no. No, no, no. I stupidly blind bought this because I have yet to find a tea fragrance I don’t like. Until now. I do not have the words to describe how it smells, I just really do not like it. It was an immediate scub off for me. Maybe the dry down gets better but I couldn’t wait that long.
