Kewpie Doll

This perfume makes me so nostalgic for so many different eras of my life! Now that I have the full size the first sprays are so much brighter, greener, and zingier with the spicy tomato leaf and crisp basil. When I first sampled this perfume all I would get is the musty vinyl dolls head note, which is what made me fall in love with it. Now that I can spray more that note is a little more coy, allowing the greens and the bergamot to play out in the backyard first before finally making its entrance. Like the VIP babydoll at a summer birthday party lol. The vinyl is sooo musty-dusty and it lowkey reminds me of when I lived in a hoarders house, but it somehow transforms that scent memory into something fuzzier and cozier. Like being surrounded by dusty boxes and vintage dolls but being totally stoked to be there. It really is such a quirky and funky scent, especially when you smell it up close. But luckily the scent bubble reads a lot more mild to other people. I've gotten comments from people who say I smell like tea or wood, especially in the dry down. Because as it fades, that Nana's Back Porch note really takes center stage. It's a dark, warm wood and somehow the mid-note powdery dolls head morphs seamlessly into it. It reminds me of summer, of watering tomato vines with my mom in her country home, making caprese skewers with my grandma, and playing with my nieces in their rubbery inflatable pool. But yeah, it also does remind me of living in the house of hoarder disney adults lmao. But don't let that scare you away! It's not a safe blind buy but it is so artful and evocative, and I think it will resonate with a very specific type of person 🍅☀️🌱👼

Very true to the scent profile! First thing I immediately got was antique shop/plastic baby doll. I have never smelled a scent profile like that before and I thought it was very impressive. Immediately after I get the green garden scent. You can truly smell the vinyl but it smells good in my opinion!!! I was worried I would be put off by it but there's a sweetness to the scent, perhaps accented by the flowers and bergamot. I have smelled strong tomato leaf/basil scents before, this one comes off more as simply "green" to me, so if you're looking for a true tomato leaf/basil scent this one might not be exactly what you are looking for. Definitely a summery scent, but be warned, I can potentially see this becoming a bit headache inducing in some people. It never tipped me off to that point but I will spray lightly for sure. Couldn't stop thinking about that enchanting vinyl note after wearing!

Let me tell you, this perfumer is, no pun intended, right on the nose. They could easily work for some midwestern chemical company and make their fragrances and would probably be highly successful - However, they have chosen to blaze their own path into the tall prairie grass and the results are a niche-level daydream. These scents are on a whole other level, wearable nostalgia, she doesn't get deep into woods, or citruses, but rather places and moments that trigger memories. I love her philosophy toward fragrance. Yes, it's tomato leaf with action figure/baby doll plastic. Perfectly complemented and apparently molecularly partners. I don't wear it, as these notes are quite strong. I spray it into a room when I want guests to feel at home. If you're not into this, that is fine, you can not say it is not exceptionally well done and meets the marks of the goals intended.

This was the first scent I bought from Pearfat. It was a blind buy solely because of the adorable name and my love for Kewpie Dolls. Upon my first sniff I got heavy basil and tomato right away. Then the dry down transforms into powdery baby doll head with vinyl and citrusy bergamot. It's cozy and fresh like the perfect spring day. It evokes nostalgia towards the bright and colorful memories of childhood. I love this scent and I'm glad I bought a full size because the scent fades pretty quickly on me and the sillage is on the intimate side on my skin. I like the drown in the scent and I find myself having to reapply since it's so light and airy hehe I recommend this for anyone who doesn't like heavy perfumes and likes green aromatic scents with a hint of sweet floral.

and review i will! i really really like this one. decidedly sunshiney,, definitely feels like the thick of summer and i look forward to wearing it then. i get a little bit of that soft baby doll plastic for the first couple hours, but it’s subtle— the tomato leaf is more the star here (at least on me). smells like im seven in the backyard with my sister and caitlin and abby, and we’re all covered in dirt, it’s late afternoon, and my mom is picking tomatoes, for bruschetta, for book club (it’s our turn to host— when it gets dark the adults will start arriving and we’ll go inside and watch nickelodeon and sometimes get up to steal m&ms from the snack table. but we have a good hour left until the sun sets).

I was in the garden about a month ago looking at the growing tomatoes, separating the vines giving them air. I came back inside and was taken by the tomato leaf smell all over my hands and arms and wondered how I could prolong it. This house and scent came to me immediately after while looking for something unrelated here, first time buyer and wearer of Pearfat. The scent itself is so unique and full of summer produce-I consider it my farmers market scent. But the experience is extremely fleeting and that is my one note- 4 sprays even and two hours later not a trace. Perhaps that is intentional and I'm being greedy-but it's that bright and happy I want to smell it on me all day and all summer.

Reminds me of mixing my own perfumes as a kid out of my mom's essential oils, because I was obsessed with ylang-ylang and that is definitely the dominant factor here. The basil doesn't really come through on its own, but I think it's just a very artful blend. For me, it's easy to smell the vinyl and tomato notes beneath the ylang-ylang, but if you are not a fan then this perfume won't work for you. I frankly love the sweet plasticky nature of this.

This is my favorite scent EVER. I don't usually like green scents, but something about the tomato leaf in this one really does it for me. It smells like you're walking through a beautiful tomato garden in the middle of summer. I don't really pick up on as much of the vinyl note, so maybe that's why it's so wearable to me. But really it's the perfect layered tomato scent, and I WILL be saving up to buy a full bottle (˶˃ ᴗ ˂˶)⚟)).

Obsessed with this and can't stop smelling it -- just a perfect plastic doll scent that reminds me so much of Strawberry Shortcake and the 80s-early 2000s My Little Pony dolls. It feels more spring than summer to me but could be worn for both seasons. Out of all the Pearfat fragrances I've sampled, this and Stomped on Bed of Lettuce are my favorites.

easily my favorite fragrance i own. i get compliments every time i wear it, deep sniffs when i enter the room! fresh, spicy, soooo green and distinctly tomatoey. i get more vinyl on the drydown, and a totally spicy opening blast that at first i didn't like but settles well. I ADORE kewpie doll, and every scent i've tried from pearfat has been a hit

the zingy, spicy greenness at the top is short lived... within the hour it becomes a softer, powdery greenness. forgotten baby doll left out in the rain covered in wet grass and flowers. i do like it a lot and it feels very nostalgic. i wish i got a stronger tomato vine note, after it fades it does feel like there’s something missing.

So wonderful! Somehow so green and the spicy tomato leaf note is the bomb...love love love. Love the first spray with its wet minty note, love the dry down that smells like leaves in the sun, love it layered with Not A Perfume which makes me feel like I'm lying in a flowerbed. Awesome!

reminds me of: a little troublemaker with a heart of gold, feeling awkward, playing with your favorite dolls in the “hidden” corner beside your family couch, batting your eyelashes and asking, “who me?”, chewing on a straw out of nervousness, believing in yourself...✨

Revisiting my sample of this one. I still love it. I saw someone voted this as smelling like one of my favorites, Jasmin et Cigarette, and WOW I did not see the connection at first but now I do. This is like Jasmin et Cigarette's herbal plastic tomato cousin.

kewpie doll transports to a warm memory, such a wonderful wear. standout notes are basil and vinyl—synthetic notes can make a fragrance feel more real than anything.

Smells like the top of a baby doll's head after you played with it outside in the yard all day. I'm kind of obsessed with it.

This brought out a very surprising and visceral reaction of nostalgia for me that I was NOT expecting. This perfumer takes a lot of inspiration from living/being raised in the midwestern US, and having been raised there myself I can see why now. This reminds me of the EXACT smell of my aunt's backyard in the summer when I was younger. The smell of the vegetal basil and tomato leaf mixing with the smell of non descript flowers, all with a weirdly lovable backbone of plastic from my action figures hits really close to home. Off initial spray you get a healthy dose of bergamot that almost smells lemonade-esque when put in combination with the rest of the notes. This is pretty much the entire scent, the plastic-y vinyl becoming less noticeable as it dries down more on my skin. I might give this a wearing or two more before the weather truly turns. I can dig this, not necessarily a love as it is SO SPECIFIC to my memory of summer afternoons, and the plastic-y vinyl note can be a bit screeching for the first 30 minutes; but I can still dig this. This is a completely unisex fragrance, this is art.

Pearfat does a beautiful job at invoking memories with semi indescribable scents. I can't tell you exactly what this smells like but I can tell you the moments I see behind my eyes when I smell it. I remember sitting out in the grass at my aunt's house listening to radio Disney through weird rubbery headphones on a satellite radio that had 2 weeks left of free trial service. I remember sneaking through the golf course behind another aunt's house and trying not to get caught so we could reach the ancient willow tree where I'd read while my brother played DS. I remember neighbors begging us to come in their backyard and pick as many tomatoes and zucchini and squash as we could carry. I remember chasing my escaped cat through the forest behind a house we only lived in over one summer, the ground was so soft and lush that my feet didn't make a sound but the rocks I was collecting in my pockets did. This fragrance smells inviting and carefree and soft. I'm not sure pearfat is meant to be wearable but it certainly is a brand of stirring scents

It's.... fine. My co-worker absolutely adores it and good for her, but for me, I get way too much plasticky new toy smell and not enough tomato leaf and greenery (which I adore). Wanted to like it in my sample kit but it's not worth a bottle on me. Might get some as a gift for my co-worker! Update: Okay, pause. I picked it at random after a shower and decided to give it another shot because what the heck, I’m not going anywhere today. All of a sudden, I’m getting SUCH lovely green notes, the sharp and spicy-sweet tomatoes that bring me directly back to childhood, playing in the mud and bamboo trellises that my grandfather set up to grow tomatoes in the wetland of our backyard. Holy hell. The plastic scent is still there, but the tomato leaf is now dominant and it makes it so lovely. Still not my favorite of the Pearfat collection, but it’s definitely bumped up. I might snag a Demeter tomato leaf to pair with a proper bottle to capture this effect again, or else only apply after a fresh shower with my tea tree body wash.

I was afraid of this one the most out of my samples as I typically hate anything that smells plasticky. New car smell would turn my stomach since early childhood, I can’t be near any plastic off-gassing for more than a few minutes in an open space with good circulation. However, this is not a plastic scent. At least definitely not to my nose. Hooray! This one opens very green, fresh, natural, garden-like. There’s a subtle hint of florals and a bit of baby powder to it. To me, it smells more like an actual baby than a plastic doll. I almost get a baby wipe scent at times but the green notes pull it into a better territory. Fresh, clean, light. Very nice! I guess vinyl notes work better for me, lol. Come to think of it, I’ve never been bothered by the scent of vinyl records. Overall I’m very impressed by the Pearfats I’ve sampled, which is everything now besides the limited editions. I definitely will be buying a couple of bottles. I hope this designer keeps making magic!

The vinyl note is there, but it’s not nearly as intense as you would be led to believe. The basil and tomato leaf are heavy in this one, with a faint trace of vinyl in the background. Strangely it works. It evokes images of children dropping their toys in the back yard while the summer sun beats down. It’s a somewhat comforting scent, and somehow very familiar as well. It smells like a suburban flower garden, and evokes images of plants being tended to by middle class people on the weekends. The artistry by this perfumer is insane, every scent I’ve tried by them tells a vivid story and is unlike any other perfumer out there, even super expensive niche ones. This isn’t an every day scent, but it’s very much the scent of a mid-summer staycation.

This smells overwhelmingly like some kind of new, sterilized specimen. Band-aids, crushed bugs, and lilacs. A replacement Rei Ayanami fresh out of the LCL vat. It is almost repulsive at first, and after about 10 minutes adopts a sweetness similar to those "efrutti" brand hamburger and hotdog-shaped gummy candies, coated in that weird thin powdery wax, and in the same vein takes me back to a 3rd grade trip to a disco roller rink. It's like a dirtier version of Jo Malone's Wild Strawberry & Parsley but actually delivers (and maybe goes overboard on) the crushed tomato vine smell that I was hoping for. Kinda love... but would also lowkey feel like a pervert wearing it in public on any day warmer than 30°F.

Basil generally makes my nose feel itchy and when I sprayed this I did almost sneeze. I usually go for really heavy/powdery/sweet scents so this type of scent is new to me. I am still not sure if I find the scent to be nauseating or nostalgic. It's kind of both? It does remind of me playing with the boys next door. Catching frogs, playing soccer and making huts. I've got it on for 20 minutes or so and now it is definitely less green. There's almost no basil left and the tomato plant really comes through. Also smells like a bouquet of wildflowers. It doesn't make me feel nauseous anymore. It's a nice, cool and artsy perfume. Will probably grow to love it or spray it on my boyfriend.

First impressions: Green, in bloom, sunny! A summery scent, but a refreshing respite from sunscreen, coconut, and vacation-core. This is summer at home. The vinyl note surprised me with how comforting (and harmonious) it is- speaks to the role of plastic in our lives I guess. Dolls on the floor. On me, the basil and bergamot are more forward, with the tomato leaf coming in as it dries down. If you're into more traditional florals and want to expand your horizons, try this green bouquet for days

I'm surprised that these notes work together. Upon spritzing, it's a bright green aromatic scent, with plasticky undertones that does make me think back to my childhood dolls. As it dries the plant scents balance out the vinyl well. It's unique and definitely wearable!

First impressions: It gives the sensation of something just unwrapped, it's like sweet grass that is just breathing outside its plastic clamshell for the first time. It's light, surprising, makes me smile to wear it.

Upon opening you get a nice blend of that tomato leaf and some fresh basil. It’s very green, vegetal and only slightly sweet. It really feels like stepping into a garden of growing tomatoes. The flowers here feel like they’ve been freshly plucked from the ground and there’s dirt still clinging onto the roots. There’s a dirty grittiness here that feels very natural. Now the dry down takes a major turn with that vinyl note and it becomes an extremely realistic kewpie doll smell lol. It smells like a plastic doll! It’s got that weird slightly sweet smell with that plastic and slight dirtiness that would be left behind from a kid playing with it. It’s so odd but definitely not for me, but as I always feel like for this brand, points for realism have to be given lol.

Maybe it's the power of suggestion, but to me this smells so much like a plastic baby doll from the 90s. So much so, I find it a little uncomfortable - like a memory I'm not eager to explore. Maybe it's being at a friend's house that made you uncomfortable or being in the toy aisle and sad you can't get something. Also reminds me of diaper wipes or something like that - a smell that is nice enough it's own but has been linked to something unpleasant. I don't get a green smell from this scent, it's all generic floral, vinyl with a fresh powdery finish. Impressive composition in its own way, but not at all wearable for me. Very interesting to test. If you get the chance, give it a try and see what memories or impressions it conjures.

This scent does remind me of remind me of the smell of dolls/action figures, but in a good way? It starts with an interesting sharp plasticky note, but opens up to a garden fresh green fragrance that melds really well with the more plasticky vinyl. My fiancée usually doesn’t like my niche fragrances, but really loves this one on me. I think this is a great unique fragrance, but has a really approachable element to it as well.

someone said rolling around in your grandparents garden and coming in after to play with a new toy and I completely agree!! I love how photorealistic this is but also not sure if it's something id wear. definitely something I could see growing on me though, I need to test it more!

this reminds me of the yes to tomato skincare i would use when i was like 10. very nostalgic and i wish i liked it more but it is sadly just not my thing. i think i’m just not a huge tomato fan ☹️

I'm not really getting the tomato and basil as much as I'm getting powdery, sweet, musty. I love a good vegetal scent but this leans more floral. I was hoping for a more dirt-like tomato leaf.

How interesting! Smells like my veggie garden. Among other veggies, we grow tomatoes and Basil. This perfume is very aromatic, leafy with an undercurrent of citrus. Good for hot days.

This fragrance was quite pleasant, for Pearfat, but the vinyl note ruins it for me

when i first sampled kewpie doll on my skin, i immediately knew that i would NOT like it...unfortunately the first impression i got was a sort of strong ammonia smell at the top. i wanted to scrub it off after that, but i instead decided to give it a fighting chance and leave it to develop throughout the day. it has a sort of musty or dingy vibe, sort of like the amalgamation of various aged smells in an antique store, carrying the essences of other people’s memories; the soft head of a baby doll that has been baking in a bed of tomato plants beneath the blazing summer sun. once the green notes come through, the fragrance becomes the exact image of what the name and description depict: it’s bright green, powdery, and zingy, with the artificial plasticky quality of the vinyl note, which i would say is the most forward here. that said, after giving it a few more test runs, i’ve grown to understand and appreciate this perfume much more as a piece of art, it just doesn’t work with my skin at all. the projection and longevity are truly quite poor, and i found that i’d have to press my nose into my wrist to catch any sort of whiff of it as the day went on (which, in a way, was a good thing, considering the opening smelled like straight cat piss to me). i wish i liked it more, but unfortunately, kewpie doll is probably my least favorite of pearfat’s main collection.

I have to be brave to smell this one because the top note I get is atrocious. I think it's really interesting underneath but I'm starting to learn anything "aromatic" + "green" = major offense to my nose. I can't pinpoint if it's the vinyl or the tomato leaf or a combination of the two. I let it sit a little and it became sweeter and had more of a punchy summertime vibe that I enjoyed. But be warned if you are like me and think "oh gee certainly I will like a green scent this time" every time you feel compelled to try a green perfume, just don't.

I found a rubber toy in the garden face down and scrub all the dirt off it. The colors are faded but the paint still kinda rubs off on my hands. I love the zingy green leaf note in the beginning, but I fear the vinyl is not doing it for me. Wonderfully artistic, but after it sits on the skin, it reminds me of a gas station. I get a little nauseous, not because it smells bad, but because it reminds me of gasoline...

it indeed smells like tomatoes and vinyl, which i'm unfortunately realizing is not a pleasant combination lmao. it's better once it dries down and the basil comes through more, but still not something i'd ever actively wanna wear. if you're interested in odd green scents it's worth a try but sadly not for moi. overall rating: 🩷💔🖤🖤🖤 1.5/5

I wanted to like this perfume so badly. I got it for the green, tomato notes but I didn't get any of those at all. All I got was powder and baby doll. :(

Kewpie Doll definitely shares similarities to big floppy flowers. I am just gonna say it but so far what is kind of crazy about the scents I’ve tried so far from this house is that moods are evoked after smelling these. I feel like it’s a bit like tripping on shrooms where it changes my reality a bit. Very psychedelic. This perfume house so far is making me feel color from these and that makes me feel emotional. I feel like Kewpie Doll embodies giddiness. It’s a very exciting smelling perfume I would never even imagine and it satisfies nostalgic vibes of 60s and 70s style. I smell chartreuse. :) for some reason I feel like this strangely goes with autumn for me, even tho it’s summer vibes and would layer well with a lot different perfumes, especially rose! I wanna wear black with this too for some reason! Such a unique smelling green floral perfume with zero sweetness and plenty of tartness.

Midwestern person here, this definitely brings back memories of playing in the backyard and I DO think the story of the doll left in the yard/grass clippings is SEMI accurate, but the best way to describe this fragrance is the color green. It feels very bright and nostalgic, but not insanely overpowering. I definitely want to buy a full size of this as a daytime summer scent. The tomato leaf/basil really jump out after the initial vinyl settles. It’s an intriguing scent and I don’t think does good for a blind-buy but highly recommend the sample set.

Spicy, aromatic, green grass freshly mowed. There's a pile of plastic toys piled up next to the porch warmed by the afternoon sun. The smell of garden flowers linger nearby as you pluck fruit from your first successful tomato plant of the season. Back inside, the bergamot cleaner you used this morning still fills the house, further brightening your spirits. Another midwesterner that feels nostalgia from this one! I also wish the tomato leaf was more present, but the bergamot is beautiful.

I just don't think this is my memory to wear. It definitely gives that grass smell that's common in Pearfat's collection, like Lettuce or Floppy Flowers. I didn't grow up in the Midwest, so this isn't the outdoors I grew up in. To me, it smells like a plastic doll lost in the backyard that's just been cut, so it's covered in clippings. You pick her up and wipe the grass off her fake skin, and the oil of grass and hot plastic get on your skin. That's what it smells like to me.

strange strange strange. it's like a synthetic factory buzz/hum in scent form. with some grocery store tomato thrown in- plastic container with the holes & all. contrary to some of the reviews and the marketing, this comes across as very "indoors" and almost metallic. i don't get playful; i get the hallways of the Lumen corporation, linoleum floors and flickering ceiling lights. still, definitely not boring & i'm glad i sampled it; would love to try more from pearfat.

I sprayed this on myself and it kind of smelled like piss. My friend tried it and it REALLY smelled like piss. My friend's roommate, who is suffering from a version of anosmia where they cannot smell anything stinky, tried this and said it smelled like flowers. They are considering using it to retrain their brain to smell bad smells, though, so I wouldn't say this perfume is good for nothing...

Ooooh I NEED this!! Is it supposed to smell like a vinyl doll? I collect Kewpies (dolls are another obsession along with perfume) and I like scents that are supposedly "dolly head plastic" in nature. I love tomato leaf as well, so this sounds intruiging. If anyone reading this non-review has tried this fragrance, please leave a review (whether or not you liked it!)

tragically, to me this smells like straight piss on vinyl. it’s horrifically bad on my skin. so much so that we’re using it as exposure treatment for my friend’s anosmia. do not blind buy this, i beg you.
