Cosmic Cowboy

A brainchild of fashion-industry veteran, Daniel Patrick Giles, Perfumehead is said to create fragrances “laced with cinematic suspense,“ and, having worn Cosmic Cowboy for several months, I can vouch that this scent really does unfold like a mini-movie, both familiar and new, taking you along for the ride. What I get first is an electrifying wave of cinnamon bark that jolts your senses like that first riff of an electric guitar. It is an exciting, deliriously delicious opening, made irresistible by the promise of gourmand delights to come. What follows is my favorite part of the scent. Once the cinnamon settles (without ever fully fading away), I am drawn into the creamy heart of orris and supple leather, awash with warm, silky whiskey and hints of milk chocolate. Soft tendrils of tobacco add an intriguing touch, without being too smoky or overt, the whole thing melting into a mouthwatering yet seductive cocktail with decidedly gourmand overtones (think boozy cinnamon bun). Daniel Giles calls this fragrance “debauchery in a bottle,” and I agree, only adding that it packs an undeniable aphrodisiac punch. On the dry down, I pick up syrupy berry nuances woven into the mix and very soft musk—so elegantly done, Cosmic Cowboy simply smells like a delicious memory of an incredibly fun night of dancing, drinking and flirting at one of LA’s chicest clubs, bottled and preserved. I seriously cannot get enough of this scent—it’s turning into a full-blown addiction that I’m only too happy to indulge. I’d recommend it to fans of opulent near-gourmand fragrances like Angel’s Share, Eyes Closed and Zaya.

I bought this for my birthday last November and I've worn it about a dozen times. Personally, I think Cosmic Cowboy is a masterpiece. It opens with rich spices and darkness, and for a brief moment it smells similar to Chanel's Anteaus, which is a 1980s chypre known for its dark, brooding, no-fuss composition. Ultimately, the dry downs are completely different, so they're not similar. As the fragrance settles, I get a ton of cacao, rich tobacco, and whiskey, and it's absolutely lovely. At this stage it's, to me, one of the sexiest perfumes in my 150 bottle collection. It's so warm, resinous, ambery, and daaark. After about an hour the musks and suede become more pronounced, and the fragrance feels more smooth, grounded, and almost skin-like. The orris is adding powderiness and making Cosmic Cowboy unisex, but it doesn't smell like a makeup bag to me, which iris/orris tend to do. There is smokiness, too...but it's not cigarette smokiness (thankfully), it smells like the smoke caramel or some type of sweet thing (a pancake? I don't know, not really the cooking type) makes as you're cooking it. This adds such a wonderful ambery/vanillic sweetness that this profile needs. It lasts 8+ hours before it's a skin scent, and it projects greater than an arms length for the first hour/hour and a half. I love Cosmic Cowboy, and it's my favorite date night scent. I can't wait till the weather gets cooler so I can start wearing this again. 9.5/10. Bravo Perfumehead 👏

I love this stuff. It's an old-school clean yet smoky musk. I'm not sure that I completely agree that it smells like Musc Ravageur, though. I get the resemblance (I'm currently wearing them both), but only in part. MR in its opening and mid smells cinnamony, almost like a play on musk without actually *being* musk. MR at first smells more like Maison Crivelli Santal Volcanique (which I also own and love, to be clear). Not until far into the dry down do MR and CC smell sort of similar. Cosmic Cowboy, on the other hand, is much more consistently masculine, brutish and crisp, almost creamy. Cosmic Cowboy is an amazing cologne and is very high quality, reflective of its high price. Still, I do think the Perfumehead fragrance line, across the board, is very overpriced. $250 for ONE ounce? That places them among the most expensive in the world. Can't wait til the day they finally make it to discount sites.

I've been loving this scent after blind buying it in a fit of drunken passion at 3 AM. It sits well on me but I have a friend who didn't particularly like how it sat on her. It starts off musky and quite sexy, almost like creamy leather, but as it wears down I found it to be sweeter and brown sugar-esque. The dry-down is what marks it as slightly more feminine for me, although I think it smelled rather delicious on my boyfriend who found it too sweet to his liking. I will have to edit my review to be more detailed as I continue to wear it, but for now, I find it to be worth the investment!

Musk lovers, if you haven’t had a real fix since the 80’s, rejoice! There is something so satisfyingly nostalgic about this fragrance. It’s new old. Lots of potential here. I’m still experimenting wearing it alone and with Canadian Tuxedo, they do smell kismet together but an 850$ investment plus tax 😅 I’ll wait and let some real pros review while I decide.
