Cucumber

I think Perfumer H is a hugely overlooked brand, at least this is the impression I get from the low response here on Fragrantica. I was very curious about 'Cucumber' for a very long time, having the memory of Marc Jacobs 'Cucumber' still in the back of my head (which I still regret not buying). This is however something entirely else. As with several Perfumer H perfumes, I get this kind of salty-savoury feeling. This is not a mainstream-fresh cut cucumber, but more of a savoury one. I know it doesn't sound very great, but it is actually quite nice. Another overall signature, is that many of them also have a very natural texture. Understated and very polite. Through its politeness becoming very versatile. They are not very colourful and overtaking. You could really wear them on any occasion. There is a certain 'there-not-there' lightness over them. More like a whisper. They are not oil paintings, but rather watercolours.

Cucumber by English Perfumer H, is one which embodies her. Sublime intelligence found in reductionist simplicity. Cucumber is extremely clever in that this composition starts from the inside out. The initial olfactorary sensation is that of the waterey centre of the inside of a warm ripe cumcumber. When a ripe fleshy cucumber is cut on a warm summer's day there is a distinct smell of cooling green wateriness - that is what is initially captured almost like a burst of spray. This fragrance then matures into a deep green vegetal which captures the deep green outer skin of the cucumber rind. Immensely clever, and like all her fragrances all this evolving magic sits closely to the skin and so asks to be liberally applied to create a lasting aura that persist within ones personal zone.
