Moss

Oakmoss is my personal kryptonite, a note that I love the smell of but that can nag away at me queasily until I have to scrub it off. So I was curious to see how Perfumer H would tackle it. The opening of Moss summons natural green pinewoods, damp, cool and fresh, before evolving into an accord of diaphanous lavender and faint green mandarin dancing on the thickest cushion of moss and vetiver. In the beautiful wispy drydown the oakmoss is never left to its own devices but continually lifted by vetiver and smoothed by subtle musk, keeping it light and long-lasting but remaining within the borders of the forest, gently turning woodier and even smokier. This is so relaxing to wear. A simple, soft, naturalistic moss. The official note list includes grapefruit, lavender, pine, oakmoss and musk — all tricky for me and this could have been a car crash — but the supporting notes are sparse and subtle and instead I loved it. On a return visit I ended up buying a bottle. There's real artistry here and proof you should continually adjust your expectations of certain ingredients depending on the talent of the perfumer.

This is the other PerfumerH scent in the “to buy” list as soon as I am able to. Having been introduced to this by Lyn Harris herself in Chiltern St when I lucked out and was there at the same time she was on the shop floor this one (and Incense Water) both had the effect of me of stopping me wanting to sniff every single bottle. I felt like I’d found what I was looking for. It is cooling, grounding and I felt like I was firmly standing on the soft green earth in the gentle shade, bare feet bouncing on soft moss - rather than in black court shoes, in bustling London. The perfect tonic to a stressful, corporate job - I want to get this as my work signature scent asap! I can’t think of anything similar - creates a world around me that I feel like only I can sense, like a foresty force-field. Quiet, sophisticated and gently uplifting to wear.

To me, this is a truly unique fragrance. No matter how many times I smell it, I can't immediately identify the listed notes—instead, it transports me straight into the image of a misty forest, walking barefoot over moss-covered ground. On my warm skin, the scent doesn’t evolve in layers but rather unfolds in a linear way, evoking the essence of moss as the name suggests. It’s not the wet, muddy kind of moss, but something light, slightly damp, and airy. Gradually, it settles into a soft and clean combination of vetiver and musk. It’s a scent well-suited for the office and works beautifully in dry weather across all seasons. The only downside is its short longevity—after 2 to 3 hours, it becomes a skin scent only noticeable up close. Still, it’s an imaginative, wearable fragrance that’s well worth exploring.

After occasional use over about 4 months. I can confidently say, this is a unique, gentle masculine banger. The scent whispers. First thoughts: Art in a bottle but I'm dissatisfied with its projection and longevity. Main notes are moss and lavender, both seemingly at low concentration giving the light, airy feeling. Complaints aside, this is a lovely, gentle mossy, herbal fragrance that anyone can wear. Overall I like it but it doesn't have a distinct character like Soul of the Forest, nothing evokes forest fairy more than SotF. Moss Smells good, of course it does! Office safe. Blind buy safe...even if you don't love it, you can easily layer. It does lean masculine, not a deal breaker for me.

Full disclosure: I dislike pretty much all male designer fragrances, and most niche. I get a typical contemporary "masculine" Fresh/spicy/woody fragrance, but good. I dislike all the others I've tried in that genre, but this one feel like it's made with talent and better ingredients. If you want to smell normatively male and safe, but nice, this is an option. (one of the few, can only thing of discontinued Gucci as another example, although they are not the least bit alike)

First impression. Very nice scent. Siberian pine note is awesome, as is the vetiver. They're both tempered and lavender and musk. My only issue is that it's quiet on my skin. I wish pine and oakmoss were less restrained.

Tested it out at the ballet because everyone on here seems to agree that it's not a beast and wouldn't offend anyone's senses. The initial blast is really beautiful. For some reason the citrus/lavender pairing reminded me of Guerlain's Jicky. It settled quickly into the more mossy base (and I LOVE moss notes.). And then it was gone. About halfway through the performance, I lost it and had to put my nose to my arm to even detect it. It's extremely pretty, but if a scent can't make it through an hour and a half ballet, it ain't for me. I was wearing unscented moisturizer so that shouldn't have been an issue. Maybe my skin just ate it up, it loved it so.

there’s this balsamic/synthetic note that’s shared in every Perfumer H fragrance and it’s kinda upsetting to my nose, but this one is at least better than smoke and tobacco. 5.5/10

This was quite a generic masculine fragrance on my skin, but today i sprayed on my sweater instead of skin and i found more layers of it and started to like it. This is elegant take on moss theme, dry, little bit fruity, somehow little bit soft spicy. Its inoffensive ride, the overall feeling reminds me somehow Monocle CDG Laurel, i will not compare them directly but they provide simillar style. But its somehow really synthetic and overpowering, if you aplly 2 atomizers you will have enourmous synthetic trace around you. So one atomizer on clothing is somehow ok, but on skin i feel unpleasant synthetic scent. I dont know, maybe my nose started to be very posh from all my favorites artisinal houses who are using only naturals, but this is on my skin synthetic unpleasant bomb.
