Rose de Taif

In short: I smelled Rose de Taif, and it was so beautiful that it made me cry. In long: I was very last-minute Christmas shopping in Neiman Marcus with my mother and brother, who are fragrance fans both with considerable fragrance wardrobes. I’m picky with fragrances; of the 100+ I’ve ever smelled, I’ve only liked four enough to wear with some consistency (Guerlain Shalimar EDT, Penhaligon Bluebell, Lolita Lempicka Si Lolita, Tokyo Milk Dark Excess). We spent over an hour walking around the store under the guidance of the friendly (and very patient) fragrance saleswoman and went through a ridiculous amount of scents in that time. My mother and brother both found ones they liked, but I was proving to be difficult, as per usual. There was nothing I liked in Creed, Atelier Cologne, Hermes, Tom Ford, Jo Malone, Armani, etc. I had pretty much given up on finding anything at this point, when the saleswoman guided me to the Perris fragrances we had passed over before. I smelled Ylang Ylang Nosy Be (too posh flowery, sort of powdery sweet to me), Cacao Azteque (interesting, but too heady and boozy), Essence de Patchouli (if you think you like patchouli this much, try Tokyomilk’s Excess, it's far more affordable), and Rose de Taif Extrait (interestingly, I hated this. Was too cologne-y and synthetically heavy): all easy nopes. And then she handed me Rose de Taif EDP. I smelled it, and I was a little girl running through a valley garden of Taif roses. The arid early summer air smells of the roses, dry and dusty soil, the neighbor’s geranium bushes. I run to the base of the cliff overlooking the valley and hike my way up. At the top is the lemon tree, my favorite place to sit and watch the people of my town below as they go about their days. From my perch in the branches I can see the Taif rose garden, the adjacent Damask rose field, my humble house, the desert mountains that surround us, the orange light of an almost setting-sun. Someone is cooking, subtle spice of nutmeg carried on the breeze. The wind shifts and brings with it citronella geranium. Under everything is a musky warmth from the heart of the earth and the soul of the hearth. Over everything there is something milky, familiar and soft and innocent, wrapping everything up in a package reminiscent of Turkish delight. As I sit here, I am content, a feeling I don’t even remember ever knowing. No anxiety at the future, no sense of displacement, no fear of being abandoned, no doubt in myself. As the sun slowly sets, I know I am home. All of that hit me in a mere second. And just like that, I was crying. Think that Ratatouille moment where the critic takes a bite of the title dish and gets transported back to a vivid, detailed memory of his childhood and it knocks him on his ass. It smells like the notes listed in the perfume pyramid, yes, but it also smells like innocence, comfort, wonder, belonging—all those things we lose as we grow up. Emotional notes—how does this fragrance make me feel?—is very important to me, and for those who share that, I hope my review has been helpful. But by no means are my opinions and emotional associations guaranteed to be the same as another’s. From the other reviews I see that many others don’t like it at all, and that is okay. I strongly advise smelling it in person yourself if you are considering it before committing to the whole bottle. To wrap up: essentially, Rose de Taif EDP punched me in the face and all I could say was thank you, that was the best thing ever, I’m going to buy this now so that it can do that to me over and over again. Anything that can ruin my life in a good way like that is, for me, a masterpiece.

She is exquisite. I tried her around Christmas at a little boutique in San Sebastian and just couldn't resist buying it. It's a deep, mature, wine-like rose. Not much need for greenery, or for any additional elements to thicken or enrich it. In warm weather, it's jammy and full and in the cold winter in Amsterdam, it's mostly sharp lemon and geranium. I enjoy her much more in the humid heat. She's never sweet enough to be cloying, she's always unmistakably a rose. Almost an archetypal rose, every quality you would associate with the flower is amped up to the max. It's sweet, tart and fruity with just a hint of bitter from the geranium. This is now my reference rose soliflore, I don't believe any other will even come close to the experience that is this fragrance.

Ta'if roses are sweet, honeyed, lemony in a carmelized way, and stem fresh green. The resinous quality of this rose in Rose de Taif seems to be from growth atop wood mulch. A sweaty, earthen aoud base lightly spices the delicately sweet nectar. The nutmeg sharpens the faint wood aspect. Floating petals exalting in the afternoon sunlight, infrequently swaying with gusts of wind, nudged stems bending softly and brushing near groundling geranium. While the musk might lean the florals sensual, this beautiful perfume is sweet and innocent. The sillage is a bee snare. Skin breathes a balmy, sticky, rose nectar tempered by demure, grounded, pink petals. Energizing in sunny weather.

I bought this the second I smelled it at Scent Bar. I was looking for a rose scent and this one was a categoy-killer. Once I smelled it there was no comparison with any of the others. STRONG fresh green rose. This isn't your gentle Jo Malone Red Roses, which I love, and they do share some similarities. No one is going to complain about this one not lasting. It lasts ALL day, and honestly, the first day I wore it, my three sprays (neck, one wrist, hair) were definitely too much. I will be using one spray going forward, probably with a layer of clothing over it, and that should be just about right. That said, I don't mind smelling like the most beautiful rose on the planet!

for Perris Monte Carlo Rose de Taif .. this smells like real roses, not the basic roses you find. It has fresh spicy scent.. dewy.. my eyes lit up when i smelled this small vial i got. You imagine this.. this is a what if situation. the roses in some guy's garden has no thorns, unrealistically, it's just fresh fresh bunch of rare expensive flowers and you buried your face on them... you roll around it.. and you just feel happier. That dopamine HIT'S amazing. you feel the air.. it's warm but refreshing, it's late at night, you're alone.. you can be yourself! Nobody will EVER know you just rolled around flowers. It smells pleasantly different everytime it dries down.

My first impression is wow. What a nice perfume. And let me be clear. The best perfumes are mostly unisex and often Italian. For the record I'm not:) The first wave is a combination of rose and lemon that is very prominent. In the second wave a slight sense of Geranium and Rose comes through and open to a light nutmeg. Later on there is some musk. The rose is until the end dominant. The prominent Rose fragrance stays and it is really a nice equivalent of the beautiful perfume of L'eau d'itali Rose Paesetum that unfortunately has been discontinued. This perfume is a nice perfume for warm days. It is very refined and sofisticated It is really great.

Altolhough I can strongly notice the deep and bitter fragrance of the absolut of damask rose, like la fille de (lutens) Berlin, this fragrance has a tendency to veer too much to a geranium/citronella oil (cymbopogon nardus) that make me think so much to those natural repellent products vs mosquitos. But anyway I find it nice. Invigorating. Expecially in the summer, and if you don't like unexpected bites:that's perfect! Longevity and sillage are enormous expecially on clothes. P.S.: Eureka. It smell like the leafs of the pelargonium capitanum. And Palmarosa also (cymbopogon martini).

This perfume was send to be as a sample, because my favorite perfume Paestum Rosa from the house of Eau D'Italie was discontinued. This is a more rose-spicy oriental perfume as Pastum Rose. The lovers of Rose will sense the typical rose in the start and the end. This is sophisticated perfume for a more classic balanced perfume that reminds me of the oriental ones. The rose is entangled in the spicy-musky scent. But I like it. It is sophisticated and well balanced. Good for warmer days and for moments with style.

Rose de Taif is a pure rose fragrance. At first spray you get a full blast of pure rose. Then as it dries down you get the geranium and some spiciness. The rose shines throughout the day in this fragrance. I was walking up a flight of stairs this morning and the lady behind me said "I wish the stairs were longer, so I could smell you more." She loved it and when I told her it was "unisex" she asked for the name. Rose de Taif is beautifully put together and lasts and lasts.

It is an airy, crisp, brilliant rose. Feels like a daytime scent, and would be great for warm weather. It feels very modern to me, and completely unisex. Edit: I bought it. It's an addictive fragrance which vibrates along a spectrum of lemony-geranium-electric to soft-pink-musky-sexy. Constructed as a reverse pyramid, where the top notes are a bold and heavy, and the base notes are ethereal and seem to float away. 4/5

My sensations: Spring morning walk in a sumptuous fragrant lemon house, with slight submerged aromatic accords, surrounded by a luxuriant rose garden moist with dew, which attracts magnetic to itself ... the hints of the Taif rose are decisive but immediately evanescent, immediately giving space with Damascus rose and reassuring and warm musky notes. Feminine sillage of pink, very long lasting.

Love at first sniff. It's the first rose fragrance I smell that really smells like the roses we have where I live. This is pretty much all rose, there's nothing else to it. It's bright, sweet enough, vibrant and just all arround awesome. Performance is excellent. For the price, this is a pure banger.

powdery rose at heart with a sprinkle of fresh citrus and spice. sweet rose, but not sugared. with lovely powdery musk at the base. this is how i like my classic roses. now, some might perceive this as female leaning fragrance, but i do think this will be great for a confident man to wear too.

Awe what a beautiful feminine and romantic rose perfume. I fell in love with it and had to buy a bottle . Then I find out there is a pure perfume version...grrr I was pissed off. I would have rather buy the pure perfume, it lasts a lot longer

As Perris Monte Carlo, is a brand I would normally associate with bling (given the all-gold packaging), this isn't normally the sort of brand I would have even sampled. But having recently read about the Taif rose, I was intrigued and gave it a go. Rose de Taif in all its simplicity is a rose scent like so many others. Except that this one is so much more. Admitedly the opening seems quite harsh - the lemon/bergamot appear quite medicinal and out of place - yet given time, the rose begins to exude its gloriously sweet (but not gourmand by any means), incensy, dry and resinous composition, caused by the luscious musks in the base and spiced very delicately with the nutmeg. Geranium is listed in the notes pyramid, but its role is very much subdued here - like the disruptive child in the classroom that always sits at the back of the class. The base is wonderfully put together, keeping the rose sweet, woody, resinous and yet still manages to stay strong throughout. The rose itself isn't very green at all (contract this with Diptyque's L'Ombre Dans L'Eau). I'd say this fragrance compares with a geranium-starved Czech & Speake No. 88. Although, legendary as that fragrance is, there are no associations here with Turkish delight or any other similar rose-scented Middle Eastern drinks or confectionary. The rose is really quite bold, dry, slightly darkened, very delicately sweetened and incredibly bright and strong throughout the scent's progression to the point that one could mistake this fragrance for an Amouage creation. The scent leaves a very hard and unmistakable trail in the extreme dry down - I can smell it quite vividly on clothes days after application. Rose de Taif (perhaps accenuated by the musks) is a chypre-like quality, meaning this is essentially a floral-chypre. Superbly put together and worth a full bottle if you are a rose lover.

Vivid rose geranium accord in the top, slightly green and rich in cintronellol, think citrusy citronella vibes some people call it more of slightly 'wilted rose' , but not in particularly sharp or unpleasant way. Not much spice, but the rose cleans up quickly and musk accord comes to the forefront reminding me a bit of Rose Opulent by MPeG. Light and ethereal overall, quite radiant, smooth, naturalistic with moderate longevity. Slightly feminine leaning in the dry down, as in it is structured as a traditionally feminine fragrance, but at the same time it is quite bold and tart for a rose so perhaps men with the right skin chemistry may be able to pull it off especially because it is not particularly sweet, but perhaps a bit too dewy and delicate for some. Interesting, worth looking into if you enjoy geranium rose musk blends.

When I was in high school I had a job at a florist. I would go pick up the weekly orders at the wholesaler, prep the flowers back at the shop. When it came to roses, I would have to stem them, cut them to even length with a diagonal cut at stem end. I would move them into the walk in and when customer orders came in, I would pull them out. Rose de Taif reminds me of this, hands, body, apron all smelled like this, the rose flower and the leafs, stems too. Pretty realistic. I like the scent, but for relaxing at home. Might also try it layered with something else. Seems to stay close to skin, good longevity. Straight ahead rose. Inspires me to buy a dozen roses for my spouse, wearing this would enhance the delivery!

Aromatic and fresh. Compared to Rose de Mai from the same brand, this rose is less hyperrealistic and raw, with no trace of artichoke. The lemon and nutmeg bring out the natural fruity/spicy hints of damascus rose. However, they don't really read as separate notes. Rose de Mai had very minimal geranium, while in Rose de Taif it's much more present, especially in the drydown. I feel like the great lesson of Perris Montecarlo is that, in order to make and outstanding soliflore, you must not make a soliflore. The brand is very good at using different notes to enhance different aspects of the main ingredient, in order to have the realest rose/jasmine/whatever of them all.

A very nice take on a Taif Rose that blends that type of rose's citrus like aspects with some nice actual citrus, spice and a big chunk of geranium. This makes it more unisex than a straight Taif smell, it's thicker, more substantial than a light airy rose. It is quite linear (and has a mild citronella tone inside it) and I do get tired of it after 4 hours of fairly strong projection but before I get tired I do enjoy this.

Quite sour almost bitter - sour rose. Geranium and lemon reinforce this sensation of sourness here for sure. Personally, I've enjoyed wearing this scent and as a big rose lover, I might even consider getting a full bottle one day. The rose here is very green, and pretty much nothing else. No oud, no spices, no pachouli, no vanilla. Just plain roses. This is a rose scent that your grandma would absolutely dig.

A very bright realistic rose. I accidentally spilled some of my sample on me and this stuff is very strong for the first few hours. On my skin it lasted about 5 hours, but I could still faintly smell it on my clothes. I smell a lot of the musk late into wearing it, but mixed with the other notes, it smelled a little bitter. Overall, this is a very nice true rose perfume. I’m very glad to have sampled it!

A very green and green again rose. I love geranium in perfumes, but here it's too much. There is an impression of lemongrass which makes it too sharp. It also reminds me the greeness you can find somewhere in "Sa Majesté la Rose" Lutens. I prefer darker roses. For a natural rose, in that style, i would choose " Tea Rose" Perfumer's Workshop which is more natural, fresher ( and much less expensive)

Wow. Unisex, powerful and distinguished Taif Rose. This is raw and authentic - unrefined in the best way. This feels like a vial you would bring back from a desert adventure in another world. High doses of natural materials and very potent. If you’re a rose lover then you need to try this. I love the contrast of the delicate pink sweetness with the peppery, spicy and slightly green dry down.

This is very lemony to my nose, with rose as the other strongest note. It reminds me of Chopard Felicia Roses which is considerably cheaper and has stronger sillage. It isn’t unpleasant and feels refreshing on a hot day, but I won’t be buying a full size bottle. Edit - after a while the lemon dies down and the damask rose comes through which feels more mellow.

wow amazing juice in the openning i get a lot of citrus ,special lemon with rose the dry down is powdery floral with little nugmet and musk !!this fragrance is very sophisticated and unique as the same time ..definitely unisex. smell 10/10 longevity excellent versatile 8.5/10 sillage 8.5/10 overall 9/10

I like Rose de Taif, but agree with others that this is a fairly straight froward Taif Rose scent, with a little nutmeg twist. But it’s not enough to make Rose de Taif feel different, and there lies the problem; you can find other perfumes that smell similar and cost less. Still a like vote from me.

Light jammy rose with green and somewhat spicy undertones. It reminds me quite a lot of an actual tea rose scent: jammy, herbaceous, sweet and powdery. It’s quite powerful and radiant. Nice, but you really need to be into rosy scents to love it. Follow me on IG: scent.guide

Of course I was going to like Rose de Taif, I love rose perfumes. I got this sample for free. This is a very nice fresh spicy rose and geranium perfume w/ a bit of lemon. The problem is you can get this scent profile for a lot less money.

On me it is a soliflore. Fresh, crispy, juicy rose. At the beginning it is a little bit sour. Later develops absolutely wonderful, round and classy. As if you entered a beautiful rose garden. Lasts for ages

Starts up so sharp, give it 15 mins & you'll smell nothing but pure sweet rose. Perfectly blends with pure oud oil (dahn oud) ,stays whole day on my cloths .. Suitable for those who want pure rose scent.

Well it definitely would smell purely ِِArabian, that's why it's called Rose de Taif "ورد طائفي" Taif rose grows in Saudi Arabia besides Taif is an area about 80 KM away from Macca in Saudi Arabia.

Absolutely beautiful taif rose, which is very much like wild rose. High quality and wears like an extrait. PMC puts out some really quality stuff.

Bitter rose in middle eastern style, extrimly long lasting, can smell it on me a next day. Single note perfume, not complex, but opulent and sexy.

Very pretty. I find the taif rose to be a very juicy smell that also has a slight bitternness, less smooth than other rose kinds.

In my country this smell like rose water for the cemetary. Rose is very raw, i think its good for layering.

I get mostly geranium and citronellol from this. That said, the only experience I have with Taif Rose is from Ormonde Jayne, which to me, is MUCH more pleasant. I know this perfume is well loved, so maybe I just need to give it more time, but it’s just giving me potpourri vibes hardcore. It is very strong tho and the longevity is good.

Like an explosion of rose and geranium petals crushed between your fingers. It smells like detergent or a botanical experiment for over 30min. Then it dries down to a rose scent closer to the skin. Not really impressed by this.

I love Taif roses. However, this perfume is a very linear scent that is quite heavy and flat. I much prefer Nina Ricci L'extase Rose Absolute, sadly discontinued. The quest continues.

Smelling from a small sample: pickled rose. This is why I don’t like samples. Geranium, lemon, rose. Spicy. I have geranium & rose essential oils that are very similar

Peppery jammy rose, times it can be overwhelming and is skin chemistry dependant, it's like a sharper and more potent "Rose Poivree The Different Company"

Rose and citronella. Not a like for me.

Ooofff...! P de M C Rose de Taif punches you in the nose with its citrus and nutmeg-spicy rose + geranium. Something about this combination just reads as bathroom cleanser, to my nose, unfortunately. I love the rich, fresh, green rose of Perfumer's Workshop Tea Rose, and this does NOT smell like it, in my opinion, other than it being a strong rose. I think it's the nutmeg note that makes this one so challenging, and the geranium doesn't help. Other perfumes with nutmeg that I know are Calvin Klein Secret Obsession and Givenchy Organza, and I found those two "difficult" at first, but did come around to love them both. As Rose de Taif dries down, it softens considerably, becoming more of a pure rose, but you have to make it through that first rose-geranium-citrus-nutmeg blast. For me, if I'm in the mood for a rich, straight-ahead green rose, I'd rather just enjoy my PW Tea Rose, or if I'm in the mood for nutmeg, I'll go for Organza or Secret Obsession.

Imagine the most expensive, elegant, supple rose scent. Now, drench it in lemon furniture polish, and you'll understand this scent. So this didn't work for me, but I did determine I need more Taif rose in my life, so the search continues.
