Vanille de Tahiti Extrait

Oh wow. I sprayed this in the store and immediately purchased a sample to take home. I'm not a fan of the EDP due to the strange opening note and I'm pleased to report I don't get that with the EXTRAIT. The sillage on me is strong! It's a hot day though. Is it worth 250 for 50ml? I'm not sure but I think I just might have to have it! My first Fragrantica review, sorry it's not very technical but this is a wow for me. UPDATE: Purchased the next day. Haven't been as excited about a frag in ages.

I like the EDP original, but this extract version is way too sour and has a cheesy smell which is like the whiff emanating between the body folds of an overweight human who hasn't washed properly in days. Luckily, after the opening, this dissappears and there emerges a realistic vanilla pod capture, much the same as the original. However, the sour taint seems to carry on for more of the dry down, along with much more pronounced florals that I detected in this extract version. Florals which have a slightly less than fresh, going over and wilted profile. I think it's the magnolia perhaps which adds the overripe bouquet, along with champaca providing an extra sour zing to the vanilla pods natural sour side. This all adds in a dirtier and more animalic side here and although it's quite interesting as the perfume evolves more indolic/floral on my skin, I still prefer the EDP version of this one. For now. Edit - yes, I'm correct! The original EDP doesn't seem to contain magnolia, this really ramps up the floral side of the extract version.

Beautiful on a blotter, terrible on (my) skin.

Compared to the EDP, the extrait is a little different. It behaves slightly more floral and maybe a notch softer on my skin. I had the hope that the vanilla note was going to be more intense. It is beautiful, but it is not more intense. It doesn't have the very indolic/poopy note that you might feel in the EDP. Hey, if I was a millionaire I would buy a dozen of both the EDP and one of the extrait. But...I am still paying my mortgage and ...you know...if I have to pick one I would just settle for the EDP, only because the extrait is a little different and softer, while being more expensive for only 50 ml.

This has the background scent of genuine vanilla extract, the gourmand Madagascan type infused for baking rather than fake sweet vanilla.
