Father Figure

Father Figure has become one of my most-used perfumes this year. I actually just finished my first bottle completely, the first Phlur fragrance I’ve ever drained, and I immediately ordered the new 100 ml jumbo size, which didn’t even exist when I first discovered it. I even grabbed it with a 20% Black Friday discount, mostly because at this point it feels like one of the very few good things left on Phlur’s site after they’ve discontinued almost everything worth keeping. Even after all this time, it’s still my second favourite from Phlur, only behind Lost Cause, and that one is sadly discontinued. I think both share that calming, relaxing, almost zen-like mood that just works so well on me. What I love most is how incredibly easy Father Figure is to wear. It adapts to any situation: afternoons, evenings, work, dinners, staying in... it always fits without trying. It sits close to the skin, never overwhelming or offensive, yet it lasts surprisingly well. And even though it has that creamy vibe, it behaves beautifully in all types of weather, yes, even in the heat. This one is absolutely staying in my collection for good.

I blind bought the travel size for my boyfriend and wanted to test it before gifting. Oh my word... it’s absolutely divine. Literally rushed to order him the big bottle STRAIGHT after! Complex and interesting. Clean freshly washed and ironed laundry, yet earthy musky, authoritative, luxurious, sweet, and hydrating/thirst quenching/juicy. I ESPECIALLY appreciate the Fig, Iris, and water Lily notes. Despite being unlisted, I definitely smell Vodka as well as Coconut notes! Perfect for men, who, like my man, love sweet perfumes. Though, it is perfectly unisex. Not my typical scent profile, yet, I’m keeping the smaller one for myself; I can’t stop smelling it! It makes me feel sexy and powerful. I hope it becomes his signature scent - won’t be able to keep my nose off him! Though we may end up matching at this point lol. Sorry to be that girl but it gives: Capricorn Rising, Capricorn Mars, Venus in 10H, Virgo Rising, Virgo Venus, and/or Scorpio placements. *EDIT: PrincessBTM’s review is kinda right! *UPDATE: He loves it!

The good: This is the most beautiful frag I've smelled since BR 540 came out. I can't get enough of it. I pull it out at least 50 times a day just to smell the atomizer. It smells so very earthy and ethereal. The fig strangely comes across a little suedey. No complaints here. I freaking love leather notes. I asked chatGPT if fig can smell like suede in fragrances. The response, "yes, if mixed with other green notes like patchouli." I have over 100 frags and I haven't touched any of them since wearing this. I'm on my second bottle. The scent is a solid 10/10. I get a ton of compliments when I wear it. The bad: The projection and longevity are crap. It doesn't last more than 1 hour. If I want a proper sillage, I need at least 15 sprays. And if I want it to last all day I have to spray multiple times throughout the day. I went through an entire 3.4 ounce bottle in 3 weeks. 140 a bottle isn't outrageous, but it is when it's gone in 3 weeks. But I Love it so much. For me, it's worth the splurge.

I LOVE this perfume. I had been looking for a signature scent since I’m newly graduated and it actually feels worth it now to spend more money on nicer fragrances. Anyway, I blind bought it because it wasn’t available at my local Sephora and I immediately smiled & fell in love with the top notes!!! A lot of skin scents are warm but this is cool and it is exactly what I’ve been looking for. It feels unique. The woodiness is so pleasant and not overwhelming at all. I absolutely adore iris notes and it is so beautifully crafted in this fragrance. I love pairing it with Finery Desert Spirit, a Mojave ghost dupe. Makes it a bit more feminine which I love and adds to the longevity. I only have the travel size rn but I’m considering to get the 3oz bottle! It’s that good. I sprayed my combo around 7:30am on Sunday and could still smell it when I got home around 2pm. I was at church so I wasn’t moving around much and nothing was clashing with my perfume other than incense. I just love it!

Initial whiff - its a soft, warm and slightly sweet scent - kind of like a scented hand cream or lotion. It is really familiar to me, either I smelt it on someone before or some other product has similar notes or something. But its a pleasant initial whiff. Then you also start smelling something a bit more woody, and a little sharp. On your clothes its a good mix of sweet and woody. On your skin, you get that sandalwood and it smells really clean. Overall, its a nice one to wear casually like to work, but its not fancy, and wouldn't work for a night out/date. Daily wear - yes. It does not last all day, I wore it before I left for work and by the time I got home it was just a skin scent, a subtle undertone. Good for fall and winter in my opinion. I did get compliment on it from my roommate who said 'it smells yummy' and 'different'. So yeah, if you like sandalwood, creamy, sweet, woody type scents - try this out. It's not overly masculine, leans more feminine IMO.

i'm really happy to have found a phlur fragrance that works for me - after trying and returning cashmere skin, and not being able to smell missing person at all on me. i'm impressed by a number of things about father figure, including how it's very "sheer" and not stifling but still offers moderate sillage that feels like a clean, glowy aura. last year i had a sample of D&G light blue capri in love pour homme which i absolutely adored but wouldn't commit to - and also tried diptyque philosykos which initially came off too sweet and dried down almost starchy on me. father figure hits right in between understated and bold for a fig fragrance. the initial impression is very slightly masculine but the dry down is beautifully soft and airy, almost powdery and the iris and orris root really shine. i bought a 10ml, but have already ordered a 50ml after one wear. i see it working in all seasons and transitions. also goes great with glossier you and you fleur.

I love going into Sephora and smelling testers with my wife. We saw this on the shelf and she mentioned that she had wanted me try it. I smelled the tester and was back the very next day to buy the full bottle. Later that day, we were invited to a princess tea party for our church friend's 4 year old daughter, and I decided to wear Father Figure. We are expecting our first child (April 12th), and so as I was watching other fathers play with their daughters, I thought a lot about the kind of father that I want to be. To be a little "on the nose", This fragrance was like the olfactory model of my paternal aspirations. Its touch is light, but present; sweet, but not cloying; approachable, but not shallow. Quality without screaming for attention. Something about that iris-orris-fig combo is an instant pick me up; just such a unique, comforting, beautiful smell. Father Figure reminds me of everything my dad wasn't, and everything I only hope I can be.

This is such a beautiful scent. I bought 10ml travel size as I wasn’t sure if I would like I from looking at a few reviews. However, within 2 days I have bought a 100ml. It’s seriously addictive, I can’t stop smelling it on my wrist since I bought it. It’s a really clean and not overpowering scent, perfect for the day but also sultry enough so it works for evenings too. All the notes are balanced really well and it’s a great all rounder perfume for loads of occasions. I also find it to be quite unisex, I don’t think it leans too masculine at all however I can understand why some reviews find it to be. It lasts quite well on me, I get about 6 hours wear before I feel the need to reapply. I wouldn’t say it has massive sillage, unless you overspray, but I prefer that for my everyday scents. Honestly, I think I may have found my new favourite perfume.

I do love this scent. the listed notes all come through, and they work together to create sort of a 'dad's aftershave' impression, but more unisex. great office perfume, it's not going to offend anyone and it feels fresh and clean. I've been wearing it on high humidity summer days. that said, it has nearly no longevity and after reading reviews, it seems like that is an issue for the brand in general which is unfortunate as it's nice to see an affordable, mass-market perfume like this one hit shelves in sephora and be so popular. someone on reddit noted that Phlur will purposely never make this into a body mist because then that's all people would buy (as opposed to the higher priced EDPs). I went out and got the matching deodorant in hopes that I could hold on to the scent longer, but it didn't make a huge difference.

i remember when i first opened my travel spray of this and was disappointed. i thought it was too generic cologne-y and masculine at first but man has it grown on me. i’ve purchased 2 travel sizes and a 100ml bottle and i’m still not sick of it. i first got it right before my boyfriend and i started dating, and wore it on our first date, so i have a lot of happy scent memories associated with it. father figure is somehow cool and warm at the same time. the fig and waterlily make it fresh and juicy, but the base notes make it powdery and woody and comforting. despite my first impression i think this is a truly unisex scent, and perfect all year round though i am partial to it in the colder months because of how comforting it is. i make sure to spray on clothes to help with longevity!

I've been on the hunt for my new signature scent for the next couple years since I'll be moving to a different city. Father Figure was perfect in every way, except performance. When sprayed on moisturized skin, it has a gorgeous opening which fades in 3-5min. After 15-30 min, I am left with a smoky musk scent that can't be smelled unless my nose is directly against my skin/clothes. I almost accepted the poor performance at first because I love the scent so much, but eventually I decided it's not worth purchasing a full bottle. A signature scent needs to be smellable! Edit: Im starting to reconsider purchasing the full size. Not sure if anyone else has had this experience, but this scent is almost stronger if you let it sit on clothes until the next day. 🤔

Definitely see the Glossier You comparisons on first spray, but this evolves in a different direction - it's much woodier/more masculine on first spray, and settles into such a jammy fig. It does take a few sprays out of the new bottle to really settle into itself and I wasn't crazy about it but now I can't stop smelling myself. The performance is decent on me - like most Phlur fragrances, it's a skin scent, so don't expect huge sillage, but it definitely lingers. In terms of longevity, it sticks around on skin for 6-ish hours on my skin and days on clothes, but maybe more lightly than some. Overall it's not my favourite from Phlur but I am enjoying it, and it is really versatile - all genders, all seasons, day/night, it kind of just always works?

now that I have worn this scent for about two weeks, I can say that it was a successful blind-buy and that the hype is very understandable to me! I would be lying if I said that it was love-at-first-sniff, so maybe give it a second chance if you ́re put off by the initial spray, because the dry-down is what sells it imo <3 while the bottle is green, I wouldn ́t say that it ́s an overly green scent, it is a well-balanced mix of creamy and fresh notes without ever smelling too plain or boring (at least on me), so I think it is ideal for people who want one fragrance for many purposes (office, school, a night out, etc.) or anyone who wants to smell sexy in a subtle yet confident/grown way :) I love it, new signature scent

Oh my god, this was love at first sniff. I originally just grabbed a travel spray, but I fell so hard for it that I was literally back at the store three days later buying the full 100ml bottle. It is hands down a stunning, slightly sweet fig. As a total vanilla girl who also appreciates a good clean, musky, and powdery vibe, the iris-fig combo in this is absolute perfection - it's cozy, smooth, and just incredibly addictive. I was wearing it both in cold and hot weather - it’s very versatile. The performance is solid too, giving me about 6 hours of longevity with a very decent, noticeable projection. If I could only recommend one single fragrance from Phlur to add to your collection, this would be it, no question.

i just bought this at sephora. the instant smell had me uncertain, but as soon as it had dried down, i loved it. it’s very similar to my usual perfume, le duc by francoise de gaulle, but more floral and less heavy. i truly think it’s a good year-round 24/7 scent. it’s warm enough for fall and fresh enough for summer, and not too intimate for night but just enough to make it suitable during date night. i would also compare it to a more feminine, lighter version of gucci guilty elixir de parfum pour homme. it’s a little standard, however. very nice, but lacks that something that makes you stand out. it’s great for the office, date night, and casual outings, but its universality also lends itself to inoffensiveness.

Wow. Immediately in my Sephora cart for the Sephora sale. And I’m getting the 100ml bottle. As a huge gourmand girl, I have found my favourite clean scent. I freaking love this so much! It’s inviting, earthy, subtly sweet (not cloying at all), fresh, the right amount of musk, and the best part is that it works on my skin! Not many musks work well with my skin chemistry. Something about this is so nostalgic. Like it reminds me of a department store when I was younger. It just smells so good. It says powdery, but I don’t smell that at all. Although I only associate powdery scents with straight baby powder, but I don’t get that from this. I cannot wait to wear it this summer. This could be my wedding perfume!

This is the most comforting, cozy, sexy scent. It is bookishly sexy. When I think of this scent I think of a rainy Sunday wearing a very oversized lived in sweatshirt or sweater, long cozy socks and nothing else. Your unkept hair is in a messy clip and I’ve got a glass of wine or a cup of tea and a fuzzy soft blanket reading a book in your reading glasses. Your partner looks at you and says you’ve never looked more hot. It is throwing on a cozy sweater and jeans that hug just the right places. You put in zero effort, but that is when you get the most compliments. It is casual and effortlessly alluring. I feel like if you are a Gris Charnel girl you are also a Father Figure girl.

I honestly did not think I even liked fig, but this has opened my eyes. I get a creamy soft cozy fig musk that immediately captured my attention. I bought a bottle right then. I will say one of my faves is This Is Her by Zadig and Voltaire and after the fig calms down I'm definitely seeing a strong similarity. I dont know what it is, maybe the creamy sandalwood? Either way, this is GORGEOUS. I usually do not like iris either, but this is just so well blended that its not punching me in the face like it usually does. If the notes don't particularly look enticing but you like the cozy musky creamy vibe, I'd definitely give this a try. It will surprise you!

inside of you there are two wolves - one is an effortlessly sexy, overworked 23 year old barista chick with a septum piercing and a wellbutrin prescription that carries 4 different vanilla lip products, mace, a lychee flavored vape and a polaroid of her chihuahua in a worn hobo bag. the other is a 37 year old, dark-stubbled and dark chest-haired pacific northwestern dad that one might fantasize about fucking in his bumper-sticker adorned 2011 ford ranger - knees knocking over his cold, black coffee onto the floorboard while he stuffs the sleeve of his flannel into your mouth to keep passersby from hearing. both wolves wear father figure.

Soooooooo sexy. This is honestly my dream unique unisex scent; a 50/50 split of manly musk and feminine sweetness. It's not too much of anything which I absolutely adore. There's a really intimate muskiness to it, like cool, clean skin, and a bright, airy powder thats accentuated by sweet fig and iris. The more you smell, the more complex it gets. It really reminds me of Phloem by Jorum Studio, though I would say this is a bit sweeter and better balanced version. My only complaint is longevity, much as others are saying. C'mon phlur I ain't made of money!!!!!!! Still buying another bottle though!!!!!!!!!!!!

No joke, I am ADDICTED to this. This perfume smells so damn good. It's a beautiful, creamy fig that's luscious and sweet, but it's balanced out by watery green notes that keep it light and fresh. First spray is very green-dominant and refreshing, almost like a face mist at the spa, and then it quickly settles into a delicious, smooth fig that's both classy and alluring. It's not so heavy that it demands attention, but it's just an amazing scent that doesn't smell like anything else I've ever smelled. Literally since the moment I bought the travel size, I've been sniffing it. It's worth the hype y'all.

To my nose, Father Figure is one of those scents that just feels quietly beautiful. Father Figure is a musky, woody, and cozy skin scent that is both simple and sexy. This can be worn to run errands, go on a date or even wear to bed and it'll be suitable for all those occasions. It's intimate and clean, and extremely versatile and unisex. The fig isn't very prominent which I'm happy about. I mainly smell musk and sandalwood in the opening and as it dries down, the vanilla becomes more prominent. Overall, this is a perfect year round scent. I wish it were stronger and longer lasting but I love it for what it is.

I was so curious about this scent so I blind bought the deodorant to test it out. I looooved the deodorant so I got a mini bottle of the perfume. It smells like my baby's head, and I will always want this in my collection. It's powdery, creamy, juicy but not too sweet, with a coolness to it. I was worried it would smell too masculine based on all the reviews but it's not masculine at all. It's also not feminine in a stereotypical way. I could see either wearing this and it's perfectly unisex. What a gorgeous scent.

I don’t know if my memory is deceiving me, but I feel like this has a very similar vibe to Curious by Britney Spears, especially the original early-2000s formula. Maybe it’s the aquatic side! I’m definitely getting a spearmint note in the opening, too. Anyway, it’s beautiful. I can imagine a mysterious forest witch smelling like this after brewing herbal potions in her little cottage deep in the woods, then bathing in a cool woodland stream. It’s giving Baba Yaga...in the best way possible.

INSTANTLY hooked. everyone who said this was the perfect nonbinary fragrance is absolutely right. i need this in a body spray, body wash, shampoo, conditioner, laundry detergent, etc. i want to be drenched in this all the time. im a huge fan of "sweet" fig scents. fig scents are already rare but they seem to come in two categories: sweet/ripe fig and a greener almost tomato vine type of scent variety. if anyone has any layering suggestions (especially lotion and body wash) plsss pls PM me.

juicy juicy jammy dewey fig paired with creamy orris and waterlily. some warmth comes from the patchouli and sandalwood as well without being overpowering/sharp. this is exactly what id imagine the painting waterlillies by monet to smell like. every person ive introduced to this scent has fallen in love with it!! the only downside is the longevity, i pair it with BBW's guilty as fig body spray, its essentially a 1 for 1 dupe. it also pairs BEAUTIFULLY with orpheon by diptyque. :)))

I hated this the first time I smelled it. A couple months later I was perusing Sephora and tried it again. I was intrigued and got a travel size and promptly fell in love with it. It’s green and dewy, but creamy and cozy as well. I love wearing it with a sweater. This has definitely gotten me started on a fig journey. Even on days I wear something else sometimes I smell it because it makes me happy. It lasts all day for me especially if sprayed on hair and clothing.

This is one of my most complimented fragrances. Never fails, someone will ask what I'm wearing and I'll rant and rant about how much I love it too. This one made me a fig lover. Smells so comforting, creamy, and perfectly unisex. In a day where everything is starting to smell the same, this is one of my unicorns. I purchased this for my 17 year old son also and it goes great with both of our aesthetics. It smells green, cool, comforting, and confident. 11/10.

This really grew on me. On my first test of this it smelled like cigarettes and salt with a touch of green to me. I was not sure if I liked it. I let the bottle sit a bit though and it smells gorgeous to me now, woody, musky, slightly powdery, a touch of sweetness. If you ever tried Amika hair products, I feel like it smells similar! My only complaint is the longevity sucks, I wish it lasted longer for the price. It's a very unisex scent that I enjoy a lot

Obsessed with this - it's masculine and feminine and balanced and just perfect. It works okay year-round but really shines in spring and summer. I don't get the comparisons to Philosokys at all - Philosokys is one of my fave perfumes too, but they're very different. This is much less green/grassy and honestly less conceptual. But if you're looking for something lush and floral and woody that will work well as a daily wear, this is such a good choice!

This is gorgeous. Agree with comments that it's sweet - way sweeter than I expected and I'd put it up against Flowerbomb or CH Good Girl for that - and more subtle; it does have a freshness and creaminess. There's a complexity about it that keeps me sniffing back for more! It feels light despite the sweetness so if your definition of 'masculine' is 'heavy', it's not that, and it has no c*m notes, but maybe I just don't know enough people to compare.

Another hit from Frank Voelkl, this gives me Glossier You vibes but are slightly more masculine version, think a butch version of it. I love how genderless it is, it's an amazing office scent and an everyday scent. works insanely good in the summer and as well in winter. I have rebought this multiple times, its a no fuss fragrance you can grab it spray a few and go out your day, not a strong staying power tho max 5 hours then it disappears.

The staying power is disappointing. It wears for about 2 hours and then maybe a hint of something for about an hour after, but the fragrance is mostly gone by the 2 hour mark. It's a beautiful unisex scent, and as the bottle states, it is very reminiscent of a comforting masculine energy, fresh, soapy, and a slight powdery note. It reminds me of the sophistication of an Oxford student walking to class on a crisp october morning in the 90's.

This one was a blind buy for me, but I felt pretty confident after seeing that a lot of folks who love JHAG Ode to Dullness (in my top 5) love Father Figure. This scent is an addictive, fresh take on a fig forward scent. First hit is very much juicy fig, but that fades down quickly to something that I can only describe as powdery moss. I thought it would be way more green, but I really do get intense powder from this as it wears.

I love this scent. It's the first perfume that got me into fig, and I'm so glad it did. It has a sophisticated herbal smell, but a subtle spice to it. It reminds me of, like, the cool hipster librarian with locs, crystals, and a cashmere sweater. I loved wearing Father Figure whenever I had a class, or when I wanted to stay inside and do work. Can't wait to buy the full bottle, and I would consider it a safe blind buy.

Its such a clean and fresh scent, perfectly balanced ripe fig that leans into a fresh flowery dream. I blind bought the small version a year ago, now I have the full size and it’s honestly such a staple in my collection. Great for daily wear but never gets boring. My only counter point is that I can’t get it to last on my skin and people barely notice it on me after a while, I don’t know if it’s a me problem tho...

A lovely fig-forward perfume. People say unisex which I don't disagree with, but to me personally it's a more mature feminine scent. A scent for when you've outgrown some of the 'younger' smelling fragrances but not ready for a classic grandma scent. Layered with any vanilla it adds a nice sweeter depth if you haven't totally parted from hot girl gourmands, pairs well specifically with the Nemat Vanilla Musk.

This is an easy day to day wear. I have many more rich, sweet, sophisticated frags, but, for a daily signature, I can't put it down. Creamy, fresh, warm, inviting. Therapeutic. A hot tea on a cold night. I tore through the travel size only to buy full size for the first time ever. Do you need a hug? Long day? Let this wind you down. It works. I love mood enhancing aromas. This embodies a spa day.

I LOVE this fragrance. God it’s so so pretty. It’s just so fresh and uplifting and calming and beautiful. If it were just a little bit stronger, I would go out and buy allllllll the bottles. Had come across this scent by complete accident but I tell you what I don’t think I’ve gone a single day over the last couple of months where I haven’t sprayed a little bit just to enjoy a moments peace

My favorite Phlur scent! Yes, it is almost identical to Henry Rose London 1983, but I find FF a bit more juicy/green/harsh on the open, but has a great creamy dry-down. Truly unisex, any season, any occasion scent. I keep a travel size in my work bag as it feels safe-but-interesting for professional settings. My only complaint is that longevity is limited, but I don’t mind reapplying.

Love!!! The clean, airy brightness paired with the soft musky–powdery sandalwood reminds me of Mojave Ghost and Bal d’Afrique by Byredo. It feels smooth, clean, slightly woody, and beautifully understated. I actually prefer Father Figure to the Byredo fragrances. The fragrance is unisex but leans more masculine. Full bottle worthy and would make a great signature fragrance.

I've only recently discovered Phlur as it was not available before in Romania, and I am hooked. This is my favorite for sure, the orris-fig combo is spot on and it envelops you in this delicious aura, I can't stop sniffing myself. I pick up on a LOT of orris, sugared fig, and dry sandalwood, the same sandalwood I get in Tam Dao. This one is definitely worth the hype!

I really like it but also I am a sucker for fig perfumes so I am definitely biased, though it does feel more like a musky perfume It smells nice, it gives off a pretty sexy vibe I don't think it gives off a masculine vibe? It's like if philosykos and white rice had a baby but they are both university students paying off their loans so it is in (relative) budget.

If you love this, but don’t want to spend the money + get better projection + get better longevity, get DUAs “hidden gardens.” I promise it smells IDENTICAL!! And I’ve never said that about a dupe. Dupes I think are close or similar but never identical. But trust me when I tell you the DUA brand dupe is identical. AND it performs better. You’re welcome.

OMG, I can't believe I was so late on the Father Figure train!! Blind bought this and just smelled it today and I am in LOVE. Creamy, floral fig fragrance that instantly draws you in and makes you want to keep smelling yourself! It reminds me of a really luxurious conditioner. It's cozy, yet super sexy. Unisex, leaning slightly more feminine. 100/10!!!

Love this one! Not a 100% true sweet gourmand but I still like this one a lot.. it has some note of water lillies/lotus in it, with some sweet vanilla notes in it as well. I can smell this one quite strongly when applying it and get whiffs of it when it is being worn. Fresh meets gourmand = heavenly bright refreshing and comforting scent.

I found this very masculine, not getting any sweetness at all. I'm surprised I love this so much. I got a decant and Phlur doesn't ship to my country, I don't know how I will live not being able to smell this on myself everyday. OMG I'm obsessed it's like a distant lover I cannot reach. I will obsessively look for dupes for this one.

So refreshing and clean but also a bit of a green academia vibe, like you just had a shower and you’re now poring over books in a greenhouse or in the woods, under a tree. I’ve seen some of the reviews say it’s too masculine but, as someone who wears a lot of traditionally feminine perfumes, I think it’s perfectly unisex.

This is the epitome of clean girl aesthetic. I absolutely love it! And it has great longevity and decent projection. If I was disciplined enough to have a signature scent this would be a frontrunner, for sure. And because of its solid performance, it can be worn year-round. Whenever I wear this, it puts me in a good mood.
