Metal Hurlant

This is how fixing your Hurley in an abandoned garage full of rusty tools and leather bags smells like. It really transports you there. A masterpiece of art, if you are really deep into fragrances, not only Chanel flowers and current mainstream flankers of Millions and Scandals. Yes, it is provocative and waaay unusual, that even my Toskovats and Calajs seem totally straight compared to this one. It's a must try for every true fragrance lover. Oil, gas, kerosene, rubber, asphalt, metal, dust, rust, rich leather and i guess labdanum since it has some flowers towards the end too. After it settles down, you get a serious patchouly CEO or gang Boss vibe, a serious and responsible profile adult scent. It's problematic only at the very beginning. One of the strangest perfumes in my 3k scents collection

Definitely not the smokiest scent I`ve smelled, far from it, but I do like it a lot and the longer I smell it the more I like it. Its flip to the blurred-sour-floral-spearmint?-side in the middle of leather and musk makes it a unisex. Interesting, complex, the unusual layering of rough and tender definitely makes it stand out. The fans of the oriental fragrances in Montale and Mancera range should enjoy this one. :)

This definitely grows on you. I have a sample of this from Luckyscent, and the first time I used it I hated it. In fact it was so bad that I scrubbed it off. I eventually gave it another shot and decided it wasn't as bad as I initially thought. It has continued to grow on me to the point of me now really loving this. Scent: 9/10 Longevity: 7/10 Silage: 6/10 Versatility: 6/10 Overall: 7/10

The smell of dystopia. I'm not into leather and benzoin fragrances at all, though I haven't tried all there is, to be truthful, but this is different, and i like it, which is a big big surprise for me. Everyone should try this, whatever genre you're into, forget all the prejudices you might have, and check this.

Upon wearing this fragrance, you're hit with a burnt rubber and wet metal smell. It conjures up industrial images of engines, metal and petroleum. Out of this unpleasant, and honestly stomach-turning, opening emerges a leathery-bitter orange seed smell. It smells like the taste you have when biting through a very bitter orange seed. The leather is relatively sweet in comparison. The overall effect is that the fragrance feels 'juicy', wet, and cold. Like a fresh breeze hitting the back of your nose, but in warm weather. I like the artistry and the images conveyed by this fragrance, but this is a fragrance you wear for yourself and not for others.

Simple but great. Bolded oily leather is mixed together with creamy almost lactonic white musk. Like many others artistic fragrances it is more about personal feeling over the subjective description. On my skin smells cold, woody, metalic and clean. I pickup some dirtines which i believe that comes from the patchouli, which smells a bit retro and earthy. Nothing challenging about it, for me this is an easy going scent, which goes in simmilar vein as EldO's Ghost in the Shell. Bold, smooth, dense, futuristic and artistic. Longevity and sillage are slightly above the average.

It starts off extremely smokey, like YOUR HAIR IS ON FIRE kinda smokey; quite overwhelming. You ride past it, and then comes a mellow creamy orange blossom which is surprisingly sweet and very pleasant. By this point, only 5 minutes in, there's only a slight remnant of the smokey metal left lingering, encapsulating the inner sweetness. I like.

OK I’m gonna be top on this, if no one else will—if it’s not me being anosmic to most of the profile here, or the interpretation is intended to be lax and wearable, or this is intentionally deceptive. Iso E Super is the 2nd fragrant ingredient in this perfume (after Parfum) and I suspect, if its above the olfactory threshold (or any other ingredient), makes the profile more shallow and underwhelming... Does open up with a nail polish/fuel-esque smell, but it’s rather extremely brief, then it transitions to a mellow, faint floral-biased, well-worn pleather seat. I do NOT smell any sort of rubber, paint job, chrome, gasoline or a significant amount of metal for that matter. It smells more of the interior of a vintage Dodge Charger/sports car left out in the sun, with a floral bias more than anything, and that’s being generous. And YES, while I do like this scent enough to have bought a FB of it (and the *faint* smell of ‘well worn, sun-baked sports car smelling interior’ the only reason I did), but for what’s supposed to be, according to the website itself “The smell of glinting chromes, a fresh paint job, a steel bodywork and rubber tires blend,” is not an accurate assessment, and is woefully a far cry from this—deceptive marketing per the usual. If I wanted to enjoy this more I would consider injecting the Leather Specialty Base from Perfumer Supply House into the bottle after using a bit of it, and better yet, layer it with Xyrena 66. But in my personal perference, to fit the profile better I like using Synthesis by Xyrena with this. If you want some rubber, you’ll have to contend with the one in Xyrena 66 (very little) because this perfume has rather weak projection with average performance, and frankly, an equally weak profile intensity. A great perfume if you’re looking for something wearable in the sense the perfumer is describing, but if you’re expecting a photorealistic interpretation of the statement claimed by the manufacturer, look elsewhere. And “diffusive?” A cheap cologne is more diffusive than this for crying out loud, hence my docked rating for this frag.

I don't get much leather or musk. To me this comes across as a green perfume. There's citrus at the top, followed by patchouli and the type of intense mint note that PG uses often in his other creations. Scratching my head trying to figure this one out...

Opens with galbanum, birch and maybe also myrrh. Then it moves into the sweet territory with white florals (neroli), musks, green notes and (probably) a black currant note with other sweet notes (dried fruits, apricot, banana?). The drydown gives a (shy) impression of soapy leather/rubber with a noticeable support of pine-y olibanum, but stays on the sweet-ish side. The drydown gives indeed an impression of gasoline but I doubt I would have understood the concept behind this frag without the description on the carded sample. If that's gasoline you're looking for, I'd suggest Fahrenheit any day over this one. That's a masculine point of view, but if I think of this one on a woman, I may like it much more. Actually, this is more a green/sweet frag to my nose (in the same vein as JSP Eiderantler) than a leather/gas frag. A funny experiment that deserves a sniff, but I will definitely not go for a full bottle after my sample will be over. I confirm that the projection is below average (further confusing me about the concept... (isn't a Harley-Davidson supposed to have a loud engine?) Colder days, women, 25+

I always hate to be negative in my reviews but feel that it's helpful to state if I dislike a scent and why as oppose to just writing about all my positive scent encounters. This sadly is one of those reviews, after receiving a free sample with other niche purchases. This to me smells like petrol and nothing else, I tried to give it time to develop but it actually made me feel nauseous and I had to scrub off. For those of you that enjoy a petrol/gasoline smell in your fumes the longevity on this would be amazing as I had to scrub and scrub and this scent was going nowhere! It didn't develop into anything other than this stage though so even if you like that type of note I would advice testing first. Going by the listed notes I expected a lovely, smoky leather and I do love a good leather but sadly ''twas not to be this time.

It was a big mistake to try this scent on my skin at the perfumery. And what a sad joke to make it a part of "Collection Croisiere". If it's a cruise, then this one is a horrible and fatal one. Normally I let each fragrance grow and develop, trying to understand and feel it. But this one was growing into something so unpleasant, irritating and disturbing that I had to put some Amouage over it just to stop this disgusting smell develop. Maybe Pierre Guillaume is a very talented nose but this creation from him is a sadistic gift for niche perfumes lovers. I wish this fragrance could be banned forever from any sale point in the Universe.

This is almost good. It has some really intriguing, alluring, down-and-dirty smells. Unfortunately, there's a note running through it — at first it smells like bad breath, and then it settles into a kind of ink smell. And it just ruins the otherwise musky, moody goodness that's here. Too bad!

I'm a great admirer of the work of Pierre Guillaume and have bought most of his creations. But I really don't "get" Metal Hurlant. In fact, I can't even small it, apart from a weak animalic note if I really press my nose into my skin.

I really regret spraying this one on my hand, it smells awful. Dark, damp, earthy patchouli, maybe some moss or something "wet". Not wearable at all, unless you are Lord Voldemort.

I rode motorbikes. I know what they smell like. They smell of petrol, solvol, an oily rag, leather, heat and hot tyres. More often than not there is a hint of patchouli and tack (cannabis resin)in the panniers. There is a sharp metallic smell of chrome and exhaust pipes which take on a slightly rainbow hue from being "given rice" (made to work hard). Sometimes, if ridden hard with a novice on the back, there will be a vague hint of of someone who'd sh*t their pants from fear. This smells of musk, coconut and a hint of over ripe banana skins. Nothing else going on here for me. Extremely disappointed. *goes to the garage, tenderly strokes the Virago's tank, leather and chrome and has a surreptitious sniff*. Better. Much betterer.

Thank god for other reviewers, because smelling this I was confused as to how there could only be two notes. I don't really get major motorcycle vibes. There is a sort of rubbery/smoky smell at first, but it quickly settles to something fruity/floral with a musky/leathery tone. Orange blossom as a note makes a lot of sense, and I wish they'd have actually listed it, because I hate orange blossom and would've known not to try this on my skin! Honestly, I don't appreciate a brand not listing major notes just to fit the ~aesthetic~ they were going for. People wear perfumes to smell a certain way, they want to know what that perfume is actually going to smell like!

I smell the asphalt, the rubber, the burnt of the tires, and a pure leather latex. Furthermore, a slight Sweat & a mild amount of the sunny day with a summer grass spreads here & there on a dry desert. Resembling the scene of a bike & a biker essence in a bottle is not a fragrance to wear rather than art to present, as it deserves to be respected and appreciated at max for reaching this result :) RESPECT :)

Interesting how the list of notes confuses people. It's a beautful and carnal orange blossom leather (but the flower is omited from the list of notes for conceptual reasons). A very mature choice if at all, after one has been to the fruity, floral, woody, tobacco, and oud domains and finally arrived at bitter leathers. It's very android too (as the name hints), but isn't it the future of himanity?

Metal Hurlant reminds me in some ways of a fragrance website used to push political propaganda. It's unfortunate to see the owners of the site treat it the way Ukrainian forces treated the Moskva.

Metal Hurlant was a famous french sci-fi fantasy comics magazine. They lauch Moebious Manara Jodorowsky and many others designers cartoonists and authors. Then we hope in a stellar scent.
