Paris Fidji

Gorgeous classic unconventional PG. Bottle arrived today - didn’t spray much. Not over powering but better than suggested here. I suspect a generous liberal application will be the better way to do it though. Descriptions here work well as do the notes however the candied not too sweet orange and rum only makes its impact now 1.5 - 3 hours in. After this it’s smells basically of dried orange zest the rum and woods dissipating. At first my impressions are of lime sorbet with rockmelon fruit pieces (the rum smoothing the grapefruit over) or even papaya with lime and vanilla (the sandalwood rounding the smell). Gorgeous scent somewhat more feminine because of the sweetness or for men more so when the sandalwood shows up as a left field fresh change up from the usual. Is it worth top dollar? No Is it different? Yes Is it easily likeable? Yes Would I buy again when I have 150 bottles? Yes, at the right price. Edit: after applying with vigour it’s presentation shifted more so to a Grapefruit Blast for a few minutes followed by orange and sandalwood with rum though the rum may as well be Honey Melon or Rockmelon. Still not strong on projection but very natural and uplifting.

While I find PG to be an interesting house with a vast range of bold and esoteric fragrances, I also find that 9 times out of 10 there's a snag with the scent. There's usually some sort of off, synthetic note that puts me off, and/or very poor performance (for example Arabian Horse is wonderful but I can't justify 260 euros for something that becomes a skin scent after 10 minutes). París Fidji does what Pierre Guillaume does better than the rest, at least for me. It has the classic gourmand but not a gourmand, one or two note overdose style of the house, and makes for an addictive, sumptuous, creamy sandlewood glow. Others here have called it tropical or summery, I'd say it transcends season or temperature. There's an aspect of the orange burst opening that recalls Frédéric Malle's Bigarade Concentré, but this has more legs and more depth. It's everything I wanted BC to be.

At first, this is so delicious! Creamy, sticky sweet oranges that give way to a subtle rum note. Your first encounter with Paris Fidji smells like something that should be poured into your glass over ice on a hot summer day. Then the sandalwood takes the sparkling citrus down a few notches, eventually taming things until there's just a gentle warm glow sitting closer to the skin and the sweetness is all but gone. Definitely very distinct stages to this one, like day and night.

Chewy candied oranges soaked in Rhum! delicious and sensual. I don't perceive many notes here, it's basically a candied citrus scent with tons of natural smelling orange and maybe grapefruit oils, it is sparkling and uplifting. Unfortunately it becomes a skin scent very soon.
