Lustray Bay Rum

Pinaud Clubman Lustray Bay Rum... ...is not a bay rum in the traditional sense which would be bay leaf oil (smells very close to cloves) and some alcohol (sometimes even real rum). Bay Rum was often used as a substitute word for aftershave. Lustray Bay Rum introduces itself with a medicinal note and a hint of cloves. I don't detect any floral notes at all. I don't even understand how florals ended up on the notes list. There is a hint of vanilla to soften the blow and a bit of spicy powder. That's it. Lustray Bay Rum shares the core with it's brother from the same house Pinaud Clubman Virgin Island bay rum which is more complex (some christmas cookie notes) and longer lasting. It is of course just an aftershave but even then it is not very strong. I personally use it as an aftershave and hair tonic. Using it in your hair will let the scent last longer too. It is a nice addition not only for barbershop fans.

while inferior to blue spice, it's alright. it gets the job done when treating shave wounds, but the lack of the scent's longevity is why i feel it only works as aftershave and not as a cologne, too unlike blue spice which is a much stronger scent

I like the scent, but prefer the full frontal force of cloves, the subtle-charred cinnamon, and dangling bay leaves to appease my olfactory palate for bay rum. Fortunately, this IS the real deal of old-time barbershop scent, albeit the redolence is barely imperceptible after a mere 5 minutes! And afterwards, it drifts off to a soft powdery scent, almost too subtle to notice. So go ahead, splash it on and enjoy those old reminiscing days of lore... for just a few minutes.

This smells like real bay rum for literally six seconds, and then it's gone. Probably the most fleeting fragrance I've ever owned, it's literally useless. I put it on my "kitsch" shelf in my living room as retro decor, which is pretty much all it's good for. I will say that those six seconds are very pleasant, which somehow makes it worse -- I want much, much more of it!
