Oyster!

This fragrance is a love for me. I wear it exclusively when I am visiting the North Carolina coast (our annual vacation spot). It's perfect for my early morning beach walks, gentle wafts of a slightly salty freshness, blending seamlessly with the sea salt and warm sun in the humid morning air. Salt notes in perfumes don't always work for me, and neither do marine notes or solar notes - those profiles are not my typical "wheelhouse" (even though I am a total beach person). But Oyster! strikes a perfect balance. I've used my little dabber sample a couple of years in a row and I only have a few drops left, so I'll be ordering a larger size for my beach travel bag. If you are a beach person like I am, don't be afraid of this - it really captures something atmospheric and lovely, and is worth trying out!

I shared my bottle of Oyster EDP with a friend and it literally brought tears to her eyes because it smelled so photorealistic — to briney ocean air, it and brought her memories. Before I sampled this myself, I was worried about the name because I have an absolute aversion to seafood and anything that smells close to it, but once I smelled this I had to get a full size EDP. It’s gorgeous, incredibly unique in my collection and to any other fragrance I’ve sampled. One of Poesie’s best fragrances in their permanent collection for sure. Editing to add: I’ve since sampled lots of other niche marine fragrances (e.g., Lorenzo Pazzaglia’s Black Sea), and none of them even come close to being as good as Poesie’s Oyster. This is a true standout, unicorn. 10/10

I LOVE this! The elemi resin right up top is gorgeous and morphs into a marine dream when blended ocean brine and bitter cucumber. Elemi resin is hands down one of my favorite notes and it’s executed beautifully here 🩷 “Oyster” is the most unisex of the 4 I’ve tried so far. Despite that ‘straight down the middle’ quality, this feels like a naiad to me: a fresh water, feminine spirit: elemental, otherworldly and born from the natural world. I’d *really* like a bottle for next summer. I’d wear it all the time in the heat. I do think there’s a curious and aquatic component that could maybe work in the dead-cold winter too. Adding to the wishlist either way. 9/10!

I adore this! It is everything the description says it is. Slightly sweet, slightly briney with the slightest tang of lemon. It lasts a good 6 hours on me, constantly getting little whiffs of something amazing. I so wish it came in huge bottles!!!

This is really nice I’ve been wearing it to bed! It’s calming, I picture a little seaside town. Very atmospheric! I think I get the lemon and cucumber most and a hint of the salty seawater. So glad I got a tester!

first impressions: my grandma, my mom and i all love this:) definitely fresh like the sea, evocative of oysters, but not too briney- not a harsh scent. The lemon brings a little sweetness. Like a sunny dock.

Another atmospheric one. Very aquatic. A little salty but not in a way that is entirely off-putting. I can smell the cucumber right away. There is lemon and (like most lemon notes in aquatic scents) it verges on cleaning product. But the scent itself does not! Somehow the word “grey musk” fits perfectly! I’m not familiar with elemi resin or angelica so I can’t comment on those two but there is something resinous and floral here. I will enjoy smelling this from time to time but I don’t think I’ll wear it much. At the moment, on dry down, it becomes an air freshener. As with all other Poesie fragrances I'm trying, I will let this one rest a month or so and update if macerating helps. The reviews I've left seem harsh to me (especially because this is a small business and an indie house) so I want to express that my olfactory senses and what I pick up will not be the same as yours. Her custom sample set is worth trying and I'm glad I finally did so even if the fragrances don't work out for me! They might work for you and this could become your favorite indie house. This is just my personal experience and what I personally pick up from the fragrances I chose. I have my fingers crossed that macerating will help and I will update if it does.

I don't think i've ever quite smelled anything like this before. When first applied to the skin, it smells a bit bitter and sharp, kind of like rubbing alcohol? but once it dries down, it settles into a salty, musky, fresh, aquatic scent that's very addictive. I saw someone describe this as smelling like a "sexy mermaid" and I totally see it. This is a true unisex scent that leans a little bit masculine in my opinion.

This is a refreshing aquatic. When it goes on, cucumber is the strongest note, and it's almost spa-like; but the cucumber quickly dissipates and leaves the musk, sea, and... I think on my skin the angelica really comes out, because there is a vibe to this that's slightly vintage. Like, "Mitsuko" kind of vintage, an old-school chypre.

this does smell uncannily, nauseatingly, like raw shellfish. i got a sample out of curiosity, and in the bottle, it's just sort of a generically artificial aquatic/citrus scent. but on skin...... opens like tartar sauce, then sweetens into shrimp dipped in cocktail sauce, and dries down into the pungent, slick, briny musk of a fresh-shucked oyster with a squeeze of lemon. not at all wearable, but deeply fascinating.

brackish and atmospheric, a simmering dirty aquatic with a chlorine finish. looks and smells like a fish tank at the entrance of some dark restaurant, slow goldfish on a halide green reef. Has an unexpected industrial edge, like kitchen cleaner or windex. Too lagoonish for daytime wear, it feels like walking home at night under an umbrella, rain water sloughing frothy disinfectant and hot trash off the sidewalk

So hard to smell in the water perfume. I really will have to spend the money and try the oils. All I’m getting from the water perfume, and this is a double-soaked arm from elbow to wrist, is a faint Acqua di Sale-ness. Not really salty, not briney, no dead fish, no cucumber, or lemon. It’s okay I think. So hard to tell.
