Oqachol

This is one of the three new release from Prin Lomos that uses animalics to bolster the composition, rather than relying solely on synthetic musk/ambergris/civet accords and, like the other two scents— Rahassanai and Onthamara — this is a home run. Prismatic, ever shifting, no two wears exactly alike, Oqachol opens with a deer musk and citrus explosion not unlike Areej le Dore’s Siberian Musk... this is just the top, however and once it passes, this is where things start to get fun, if somewhat unpredictable. There are two things that remain a constant for me, no matter what else happens in the life of Oqachol: first, a chewy floral-fruity Osmanthus pops in to bridge the citrus with the salty-leather base and then, in the drydown, the ambergris shines on and on and on with its ambered ocean spray. On some wears, a giant smoke cloud passes over the scene, enveloping everything in a not-unpleasant but quite intense tobacco accord. On others, the sweetness amps up and drops of honey coat the flowers, dripping into the sea. I credit primarily the Birch Tar, Cade and especially that sneaky nagarmotha with the smoke, though I have gotten a seaweed and smoked seashells vibe once or twice when the Choya Nakh must’ve been showing it’s face. All in all, this is a winner. An animalic beast, yes, but also a multivalent ray of sunlight, a floral field, a spiced floral, a tobacco... what a novel and beautiful composition. You haven’t smelled this before. Not quite as strange as something like Naja by Vero Kern, maybe, but certainly a very adept work on Prin’s part. After getting these three, I have to say, if anyone should keep working with animalics, it’s Prin.

Smoky, cool, sweet, tang of tropical fruits overlaid with enough carefree cool and easygoing delight to warrant Prin’s daring exploits into ever-encompassing matrices of scent as life. Don’t expect the ebullience of perfectly clear perfume mixing, highlighting the descent from top to mid to base in Oqachol’s profound depths. This is more jungle than sea, more cryptic river than serene horizon. The black currant, coffee, cacao, tobacco, mandarin, osmanthus, chamomile, and yuzu create a rich, juicy, peripherally gourmand profile that’s complicated by birch tar, choya nakh, real deer musk, ambergris, and oakmoss. Of the three simultaneous releases (Rahassanai, Onthamara, Oqachol) Prin put out, Oqachol is not only the most friendly and playful but perhaps the most hip, avoiding some of the muskier, more “classic” and/or stinkier, more “spiced” and “oriental” scent profiles that push Prin’s artistry into retro-indie and yet Eastern directions. Wifredo Lam’s “The Jungle” seems about right, symbolizing the opacity of the tropics where the vegetal grows inside of the human, like a rhizome. There’s nothing ascendant nor logical about Prin’s Oqachol. Perhaps one day Prin might use so many original essential oils that he’ll extract a diamond in the process. For now, this is close enough. Smelling Oqachol reminds me of geological time. It's only at this magnitude that gems are produced.

An absolute stunner! I got this as a sample and fell in love! From the top notes to the dry down, I can’t stop sniffing myself. The longevity on this is pretty disappointing, but I enjoyed it so much that I picked up a full bottle! I guess I’m becoming more and more of fraghead when I selfishly purchase something just for me. 8.75/10 Would’ve been a solid 10 if it lasted longer.

Overindulgent boundary pushing animalic Oriental from the enfante terrible of modern perfumery. There are so many notes that it’s impossible to list them. The key players are ambergris, real animal musk, birch tar, tobacco, sea shells, a host of spices, florals and gourmand notes and cypriol. The perfume is intended to evoke the golden waves of the sunset. As it stands it is a kitchen sink of exotic notes. It is dense, musky and spicy but hardly aquatic or reminiscent of the sea in any way except maybe Lovecraft’s Dagon. Yet one has to praise the sheer boldness of this perfumer who never hesitates to push new envelopes every day. The slight masculine leaning scent has moderate to strong sillage and excellent longevity. Enjoy!

The essence of golden ocean waves at sunset, the dichotomy between the tranquility and the mystery of it. Oqachol aims to provide an experience traditionally aligned with the marine category of scent, and its components consist of familiar ambergris. Here, an element of Choya Nakh provides a dark, smoky, and mossy touch, which brings up a main point of this perfume, a dark, dangerous tinge. However, there is also an undoubtable lightness stemming from the florals and yuzu. So, conjoining with the ambergris, the concept can be fully elucidated upon to be a stray from the average marine but also from Prin's commonalities, with the traditional and oriental elements lessened. The animalics are not the focus, and they instead serve to support the ambergris in such a manner as to create olfactive ambiguity; while the ambergris in this scent stands as an indubitable ambergris, the surrounding elements, the tobacco, the citruses, the woods, they accentuate an unbelievable facet within it whose nature I find impossible to put my finger on. I'd attribute this phenomenon to Prin's skill. In a sentence, the scent reminds me of the waters of an unfamiliar land.

Oqachol will immediately remind one of the incredible opening of Ensar’s Iris Ghalia. The blackcurrant, Osmanthus and yuzu coupled with an overdose of Deer musk is quite reminiscent of Ensar’s work. There’s also strong similarities with EO’s Tonkin Musk especially in the heart and drydown. Here it’s blended to the point of perfection where the entire accord has been elevated. This fragrance is a complex beast and one that I’ll keep coming back to in order to fully understand. For now, this feels more like a spicy, soapy floriental with a heavy dose of incense. It never quite feels ambery or oceanic and I struggle to find the ambergris at all. Instead this shifts between East and West seamlessly one moment it’s an incense fragrance and the next it’s a vintage Oakmoss floral. My only complaint is this feel a tad bit soapy in the heart. It’s an accord found in Savitrit that I also struggle with. Still this is pure mastery.

This is a dead ringer for Creed - Vintage Tabarome. So if you're looking for that holy grail, here you go. It nails that oakey-tobacco powdery base. I'm not sure how he did it but it's an absolute win. It even bears a slight resemblance to the ambergris in Creed - Royal Delight; another grail. RD also has a little bit of that "paint" opening, but it's a fairly vintage bottle at this point, so in that case it could be due to the age & decay of the topnotes at this stage (bergamot/lemon). Buy while you still can..

suuuuuper interesting but ultimately unwearable imo...smoking a cigarette while u sip on menthol cough syrup mixed w coffee + salted tamarind??? sounds horribly unpleasant but it actually makes for a surprisngly calming smell. couldn't picture myself wearing this on any occasion but i don't think i would be totally averse to smelling it on someone else.

I’ve never, 👎 been exposed to anything of this order masquerading as a fragrance. If anyone remembers the fragrance of carbolated vasoline then that’s as close a description as necessary. However, in context quite limited in attracting a more typically pleasing reference or response. In short, the answer is no; because it is surely out of the question.

I'm a fan of Prin Lomros, and I'm very disappointed this fragrance doesn't work on my skin. The opening was much too strong. It finally settled into heavy musk, but it completely faded away within 2 hours. This happens on my skin sometimes but not with all fragrances. I'm happy to say I own 2 FBs from Prin.
