Lys Bleu

Oh my goodness! I’m gushing over a 50 year old bottle of perfume. It’s amazing. Since my bottle is vintage the top note is that old lady that did vaudeville in her youth-we all know and love her, sitting on the park bench, smoking long thin cigarettes, overdrawn red lipstick, with a fifth of whiskey to share. Oh and she’s packing in a no right to carry state. Love her to pieces, but she smells a little bawdy, cause she is. But just hang out with her til she looks forward to your visits and you’ll see the most beautiful smile. Neroli, orange And apple in that order. Come forth after the opening. Smoky tobacco and sandlewood incense ensconced in the powderiness of a mother’s homemade orris root love. She’s sexy and clean smelling. I may be interpreting the oak moss as tobacco and sandlewood because it’s a fifty year old.bottle I just got- Things change. I think maybe the old moss smells this way because the scent still smells clean damp, and forestry. After 3 hours apple is still there but now I smell the plum, it’s a fresh plum from a smokers house. And I can smell the clean clear waters of a French bubble bath with French milled soap. Lastly I suspect this is her swans song because now a Casablanca lily, and an apothecary rose are coming forth. Smells like rosary beads on Easter Sunday. She’s lingering in this place. She’s taken a bath in French milled soap, her eyes covered in cucumber, while the pineapple cloves and ham roast. Casablanca lilies smother the small dining room with their odor as the family clutches brand new rosary beads releasing the ancient apothecary rose scent from the warmed beads into the air. There’s no air conditioning on this fine spring day so the windows are open and you can smell the damp oakmoss in the nearby forest. Grandpa is in the back yard smoking his pipe.

Bring your cauldron to a bubble, and then add your ingredients: neroli, a spice melange, a prune purée, honey-dipped Casablanca lilies, civet paste, eye of newt, and toe of frog. Let it double, double, toil and trouble and voilà, Lys Bleu! This is a sultry and bewitching potion, something to wear when craving ferocity. It's just so juicy and sweaty and ripe and humid forest-y with an animalic trail that lasts for hours. This deserves a spot on the top shelf with Krizia Teatro All Scala and La Nuit de Paco Rabanne EDP.

On the same scale of "La Nuit" by Paco Rabanne, something similar to "channel #5".... oakmoss, civet, roses, neroli, aldehyde, bergamot, & bits of sandalwood. This blend is beautiful indeed but it's not a fragrance that i haven't sniffed before! it's just a fragrance that worth a full bottle if you love 80s powerhouse animalic blends. Beautiful.

I was given this as a teenager, and I remember it as one of the most beautiful scents I'd ever smelled. I was given an enormous bottle of the eau de toilette and I wore it sparingly...and then one day, I didn't put the stopper on properly and it all leaked out. I was heartbroken. I've never forgotten how much I loved it, but as my tastes have changed over the years, I don't know if I would love it as much now. But the memory is a gorgeous, albeit bittersweet one...
