Peccatum

I've had this for a year and I love it more and more. Definitely to be worn on skin (smells completely different from the sprayer and on paper). For all the heavy notes it wears light. It has decent projection and lasts 12+ hrs (at first it didn't seem to last more than a few hours). It's an ethereal rose leather to me. Imagine being freshly tossed out of purgatory where you sins have been burned away and cleansed. There's a light smokiness and heaviness with a fresh new fruity rose peaking through. Again, this is anything but heavy. It's almost like a soul notifying other souls of its transition. Light but noticable in a wonderful way.

This is a very subtle leather and rose scent. It doesn't overwhelm in anyway, so there's not any crazy animalics or overly synthetic or offensive smells mixed in here. It's all very well balanced where the rose is probably the note at the top of the pyramid being supported by the leather with a small hint of mineralic notes in the background. So if I were to say it, it's more a rose-scent with a leather support, than a leather scent with rose accent. I will probably end up getting a bottle of this, even though my sample of it has left me a bit disappointed in its performance. The sillage is almost not there If I really try to pay attention to the smell, there's an incredibly faint amberish floral smell from the labdanum that I might be able to catch minor whiffs of at 40-50cm distances, but none of the other notes really register unless I take my nose all the way down to where I sprayed. It's a beautifully balanced and well-blended scent where you can feel that the perfumer had envisioned a passage from The Divine Comedy. I am not able to pick up anything that relates to neither tobacco nor vetiver, this might be different on you, but I'm not getting nay. I do like the blend of having mineral notes along with the rose and leather combination, but I would've loved some more oomph in terms of projection. With all of my complaining about projection done, I could easily sit and smell this over and over all day, because it is undeniably a great smell. I am a bit ambivalent about the dry-down, because the leather mostly disappears and the rose turns into a slightly powdery note, so at least on my skin, it starts to smell kind of like putting your nose into a box of washing powder. Unisex but leans ever so slightly masculine. Projection is pretty weak, at least on my skin. The top notes are very natural smelling and the rose is one of the more complex rose-scents I've tried. Definitely an evening fragrance for colder periods.

In my blind test I found the initial opening was bright amber, green, and vetiver feeling, turning more woodsy, specifically a cowboy dry kind of woodsy, almost with elements of raw leather at times, but restrains from getting too boisterous, reserving some fresh green aromatic elements to keep it from feeling tired like deadwood. I found it making itself known to me throughout the day, projecting somewhere between moderate and strong, the way a cowboy stares out, searching across the horizon, establishing strength in combination with a reserved character. A man who knows the root of his own foundation. So, looking at the actual notes now, the vetiver is clear, but characterized a bit by the rose, which strides along with, rather than wonders off on its own. This feels better forward, not leather. The earthy notes, leather and labdanum, all staying close to each other. What I don't really get is the mineral notes outside the opening, if at all, and while the patchouli explains some greenery in this dry land, it is more characterized by the saffron and incense, giving it a bit of a pine tone. If there is tobacco, it's ashy and left on the trail. The amber seems to take a long journey the other way, leaving the posse behind far before sundown. Overall, even when this cowboy isn't appealing to me personally I've come to admire the character. A combination of standalone aromatic smokey woodsy vibe it projects gives a lone stranger silhouette, while the rose adds a certain depth, subtle, but present enough to be trustful. And with its unflinching projection and longevity at this price point why not giddy up and take a ride.

Elegant rose/wood combo with a traditional metallic saffron as a top note. I could describe it as a European-Oriental fragrance, because it smells Oriental, but much softer and refined. I would still prefer it on a men, just because of dry leather in the base that smells a touch more masculine.

Peccatum is like rose and leather went on a moody date in the woods. A little smoky, a little earthy, kinda mysterious. It’s chill, not loud, just hangs close to the skin. I like it, but wish it stuck around longer.

A lovely rose in tanned leather, tobacco leaf, and wet cardboard (?). It smells better than that sounds. Big fan of that rose and leather opener. I would happily drain a bottle for that opener. Not as fond of the tannery in medical woods dry-down - though it's not so bad I want to scrub it off. On the right person, this could be a banger. I am not that person.

Sounds interesting. The name certainly caught my attention - "Peccatum" means "sin" in Latin, eg "peccatum originale" (original sin) so presumably this is a "sinful" fragrance ...
