Proraso Green After Shave

As other reviewers have pointed out, the notion of this product being listed on Fragrantica as a "fragrance product" may be questionable. But nevertheless, I'm happy to sing its praises as for what it's done for me. I purchased this along with the corresponding Proraso Green shaving cream in the tube to create an improved regimen of scalp and facial grooming. Having fancied menthol-infused products such as C.O. Bigelow's wonderful Mentha line, as well as Dr. Bronner's Peppermint soaps - given their recalibrating effect on my problem-prone skin - I tried this out after multiple recommendations on the web. Had never heard of the products or brand before this recent inquiry, and was not aware that the line is an age-old Italian classic in the tradition of enduring barbershop/apothecary-style creations. But it's just wonderful. As for the after shave as featured on this page, it has proven the perfect companion to the Proraso Green shaving cream, and has pretty much restored the pockmarking and "bumps" on my freshly shaved scalp after only a couple of days' use. No itching, no bumps, no leaky/crusty marks, no inflammation to make one want to scratch and mess with it all day. It was nice to basically just be able to leave my scalp alone and rejoice in its restored health, which is not something I've been able to say easily after multiple experiments with other products. As for the fragrance, it's a lightly fresh, cool, mild countenance of menthol and eucalyptus. Lovely, but let it be known that there's admittedly an aquatic accord just as prevalent as the aromatic accord that the ingredients suggest. If we're thinking old-school and specifically fragrance, I will note that Proraso Green suggested a subtler, less synthetic/cheap, higher quality equivalent of something like Royal Copenhagen or Aqua Velva. Refreshing on the freshly shaved skin, but not to the point of stinging or hurting. It's light, mild, clean, inoffensive...and perfect for the person who "doesn't like fragrances" or for allergically sensitive environments like the office. Projection is close to the skin, and longevity is only a couple of hours. Has the ideal dose of "early morning" or "off to work 'ZING,'" but I don't think one should expect much more than that out of an after shave that otherwise works such magic on the skin. Would serve very nicely in moderate temperatures as a "white t-shirt weather" daytime scent, or a primer for a more profound fresh-clean scent such as Mugler's Cologne. Again, not an "end all, be all" in the fragrance category, but certainly serviceable under the right conditions, great for lighter sensibilities or settings, and the job it does on restoring the skin post-shave has left me truly impressed. ★★★1⁄2 out of ★★★★.

This is definitely not something I typically go for, but I recently picked up a bottle for £7 on a whim. In Asia last summer I got a bottle of "Biore Cooling Body Mist". It has a soap scent and was mentholated, and was so nice to use in super high heat weather. Gearing up for summer, I've been looking for a similar type of cooling product and found Proraso Green. I LOVE it, but not as an aftershave (I have a beard 😂) I use it as a body splash. It's incredible for this purpose, especially on hot summer days. I decant it into a spray bottle to have with me during the day. The menthol comes through really well and the cooling sensation lasts for a decently long time (a bit longer than the actual scent). Used liberally on the body, I get 1-2 hours of longevity and moderate sillage, which I find adequate for this type of product and scent profile, especially as it can be used abundantly for the cooling sensation. On a hot morning, I'll throw this on and my walk to work is so chill. The actual scent to me smells stereotypically masculine and clean/fresh. I love the smell of eucalyptus, but I don't get much, if any, here. To be honest, I get more of a drugstore body wash scent. Not particularly interesting, but not a bad thing at all. It works very well in tandem with the cooling action. I loved it so much, I picked up the red one, too. That one I hate—it gives me a headache instantly and something about it I find incredibly cloying. Then again, I do prefer fresh and light scents, so to each their own. It was also a bit sticky. Despite the reviews saying otherwise, the red one I found way more fleeting than the green.

I don't equate this to any particular season, but rather to slow mornings. If I am sluggish I will get the entire Proraso Green lineup going. It's a kick in the balls in the morning after a shower and gets me motivated to get going. The menthol wakens your senses - one of those cheek slappers (lol), and the eucalyptus soothes. It's fantastic value for money with the quality of shaving product you get. The shaving cream is also quite good, and extremely well priced for what you get. The pre-shave is great to stand those hairs up stopping razor burn for sensitive skin. Don't expect it to have any longevity, it's not built for that. The initial smell is very strong, which helps it do it's job. The only weird thing with the pre-shave cream is I smell marijuana for some reason, and I have opened multiples, some have less of the scent, some have more, which I was shocked by as it has the same scent profile as the cream/aftershave, which do not put that scent off at all. I asked a buddy if he got the same smell from it as I did, but he did not. Perhaps my nose just detects the formula in the pre-shave differently. I'd be curious to know if anyone else gets that marijuana smell from the pre-shave if they have it.

Great fragrance, it doesn't last because it's an aftershave, but as aftershaves go it's not exactly weak, it's just that even the strongest aftershaves are only going to last a few hours tops. This lasts about that long if you use liberally. It's a very good, nourishing, high quality splash as well which makes it so much more than just any old scent that's going to be featured on this site. Some are saying this isn't a barbershop scent, but I don't see how it isn't one. It's clean, green, classic barbershoppy goodness but if you're looking for something along the lines of Azzaro Pour Homme or Rive Gauche, then I guess by that standard this isn't it. It's more like Platinum Egoiste or CK Eternity for Men. For what it is, it's a 10/10, probably ranks as one of the best aftershaves that I have in my collection, right up there with Proraso Red which is a completely different scent that will appeal to a different audience I imagine, but they're both equally great as fragrances, again *for what they are*. If you're into wet shaving, pick this up along with the pre-shave and shaving cream in a gift set for $32 on Amazon.

This is not barbershop at all, if you want full barbershop go with Floid Vigoroso. This has been built in a way of nineties colognes and specifically has many similarities (after the strong menthol and eucalyptus fades away) with Hugo by Hugo Boss. All in all is green, herbal, aromatic, slightly woody (cedar) but in a light, airy, refreshing way like every aftershave should be. At the base I can detect a hint of musk but the musk here is not animalistic at all, it is more like musk in Terre d'hermes, very Elena like use of musc. As aftershave don't expect longevity (45 minutes) and projection but the cooling and moisturizing properties are top notch! Simply professional product, not like supermarket aftershaves... I like to combine it with Hugo by Hugo Boss or Guerlain Homme edp (mint heaven). Last but not least, the smell of Proraso Green Shaving Cream in tube is more like Paco Rabanne Pour Homme edt in case you are interested.

If I had not decided on my own to go back to shaving, Proraso Green After Shave would have convinced me to start shaving again after just one wearing. Green is the perfect name for this after shave. It is minty, green and slightly powdery with what might be a touch of lavender. The composition of this after shave is fantastic but ever so fleeting (the scent only lasts minutes, but it also does a fantastic job of soothing and nourishing the skin). Green is the barbershop experience in a perfectly retro bottle. I cannot recommend Green enough and like everyone else has stated it compliments any other fragrance you might choose to wear with it. So, next time you want a shave that hearkens back to how your father or grandfather may have done it, Green will give you that soothing, manly and smooth finishing touch!

An instant classic barbershop smell! This is the Italian version of Pinaud Clubman. Basically, the scent is eucalyptus and mint. However, some people have said this smells almost like caramel. I would tend to disagree in that it is not a true caramel scent rather it has a sweet rich scent that could be mistaken for something candy like in nature. As it is an after shave the scent only sticks around for an hour. The healing post shave properties are top notch!

Absolute perfection, eapecially on a hot summer day, or those warm spring and autumn mornings when the day is still young. This is a scent of a man that doesn't require any further explanations. It suits a perfect gentleman who carries an umbrella on a sunny day, but at the same time also goes well on a roughneck in a wife beater. Absolutely excellent and worth every penny.

To be honest, this smells better than most of the fragrances in the “reminds me of” section. It opens with a bright, citrusy burst of lemon, orange peel, and bergamot. As it develops, you also get fresh mint leaves, lavender, and a cool, slightly mentholated touch of eucalyptus. It smells fantastic. The performance is exactly what you’d expect. (not strong or long-lasting)

Cool refreshing light minty barbershop aftershave with a very nice realistic green woody camphorous Eucalyptus note. If it was a Peppermint fragrance, it would have smelled too basic and herbal medicinal, which is not the case. Highly recommended for morning grooming or aftershower/bedtime refresh.👍

Brilliant old school barbershop after shave full of mint and eucalyptus gives you a cracking zing after putting it on. Unfortunately it doesnt project much or last too long but thats not its purpose its great as a traditional aftershave and always reasonably priced! :-)

I was very surprised to see this old friend listed on Fragrantica. Simply the best aftershave, even better taking cost into account and Proraso has great wet shaving products in general. This actually has a core that someone should imitate for creating an edc.

The best after shave I've tried thus far. So invigorating and cooling. Soothes my sensitive skin perfectly. It wouldn't be fair to evaluate this in terms of longevity or sillage. Highly recommended!

This is extremely cooling aftershave and the fragrance they used is pretty damn nice too, and to be fair it has pretty good longevity too

Seeing as that I'm such a fan of Proraso Red, I thought I'd buy Proraso Green and try it as well. Right from the start, I had no intentions of using it as a traditional after shave - like a face splash on after I'm done shaving - I bought to use as a body splash, in conjunction with the shaving soap as a shower soap. Admittedly, a blind buy is always iffy but a 100 ml is under $15, so I rolled the dice. My initial fear was that it would come off to menthol and medical smelling, due to the notes and the actual intended purpose of the product. Initially, I wasn't impressed. It did have the smell and feel of menthol. as you might expect from this type of after shave but still, I splashed it on my arms and body to give it a try. Right before I was going to chalk it up as a loss and use it as a cleaning product - it changed. The medicine cabinet / vicks effect essentially disappeared and left me with a wonderful, clean, fresh smelling, slightly powdery scent. At that point, I was impressed. The downside is that it's a very close skin scent with poor lasting power, however, as I write this, I haven't used the shaving soap as a shower soap with a heavy body splash application following it, so it may improve in the longevity area considerably. Proraso Red did and I'm crossing my fingers for this one. For me, it's a keeper and if nothing more, it's great for close quarters or the office. You won't overwhelm anyone at a distance but you'll smell clean and fresh up close. ******** Update: After using the shaving soap as a shower soap and the after shave as an all over body splash, on the dry down, the scent remains soft and incredibly close to the skin. Someone in close quarters will smell you but that's about it. It makes for a clean smelling office scent or for being close to your significant other without being overwhelming but that's about it. The biggest surprise to me is that I used the Proraso Red in the same way that I use this and while I expected the Proraso Green to be far stronger, it wasn't. In regard to projection and longevity (again, although soft) Proraso Red wins hands down. I'll have to try Green with a fragrance primer to see if that makes any difference. **** Update 2 **** No matter what I've tried, including a fragrance primer and using the shower soap as a shower soap and the after shave as a body splash, Proraso Green is incredibly weak and fades quickly.

Proraso green... The summer staple after a good shave in the morning. It is green, eucalyptus with a touch of wood, camphor and menthol in a weak scent bubble. The cooling effect is nice. I use it in combination with the Proraso green shaving cream or shaving soap and Proraso green pre/aftershave cream. The downside is that it used to be good value but now you pay 12$US and even 28$AU in many cases for a 100ml bottle.....seriously?!. It's absolutely rediculous considering that in countries such as Italy or Germany they throw these bottles at you. Thats how inexpensive they are. I recently bought a 400ml glass bottle of Marmara barber cologne No.13 (it's called cologne but it is a cologne/ aftershave) which smells very close to Proraso green and has an even greater cooling effect for the same price of a 100ml Proraso green bottle. It even included a rubber ball pump atomizer. Just an example of the stupidly inflated prices one has to pay for Proraso nowadays.

Gentlemen, this is no cheap smelling after shave. This is designed for one thing and one thing only a perfect aftershave. The scent is very simple: eucalyptus and mint. It also does not last long on the skin (which is kinda disappointing) however the feel you get after you slap this on is second to none. Your skin will thank you for it after shaving. Overall this is a 9/10 a gentlemens classic I would buy again.
