Eau de Calandre

Absolutely gorgeous green floral. Nothing sharp or off putting. Nothing too much. She is soft and fresh. The geranium opening makes her a spicy green then the florals take over. There is a very naughty sexy musk that balances the softness and gives this an edge. Bravo...This is understated luxury at its best. 4 Oz bottle edt vintage for review. If you are looking for a sophisticated green scent, look no further than this classic if you can find it.

I found this in an antique store for 12 dollars and I just couldn't resist. I already love Calandre and it should come as little suprise that this is a lighter version, with the original's aldehydes and assertive green notes pared down so that what remains is an abundance of luxury floral soap, geranium, vetiver, and moss. It's the easygoing distillation of Calandre's verdant beauty, a warmer weather variant.

My mom's best friend had a big bottle of this in her bathroom when I was in high school in the early 90's. I was addicted. I stole copious amounts of it from her (by putting it on, of course), hoping she wouldn't notice. (!) One time when a friend picked me up in her red Fiero, she could barely breathe for all of my stolen Paco Rabanne. :D

This was my favorite daytime fragrance, Summer of '74, purchased at I. Magnin. Wore it daily and the bottle looked great, so sleek & modern, like the fragrance itself. Like most other fragrances, vintage is the way to go if you want to try it.

The original, this one, is a beautiful, green, complex, creamy floral chypre. Unlike the original, the current release is all about aldehydes.

Beautiful addictive fresh fragrance. Fond memories of this one - classy, sexy, playful, and very elegant.

Someone in one of the vintage appreciation groups was wearing this today and another lady asked how it compares to the regular Calandre. I just re-tested them side by side as I tend to forget about this little gem, because of my love for the original. They are similar, but the eau-version is softer and perhaps also a little more approachable by today's standards. Eau is more floral and less green and aldehydic than the regular version. It is also slightly soapy, but still fresh and with a distinct woodyness that grounds it. It's very beautiful. If the original Calandre and Hermes' Caleche Soie had a love child, Eau would be it. I love both Calandre and Caleche Soie, but when comparing the regular Calandre to Eau, I still prefer the regular as I love that green buzzing sharpness in spring. However, Eau is probably more versatile and perhaps also easier to wear and suitable for more seasons as well.

I cannot resist a chypre fragrance when I already have so many, but when an EIGHT oz. bottle of eau ( you read right) became available for $15, I could not resist. It is vintage and compared to my current formulation, it is wonderful. Longevity is hours in comparison. On me, it is a burst of oakmoss and citrus. I love those cheerful notes, especially, now autumn is turning into an early gray rainy winter in SW Texas. I first sniffed this fragrance in a Neiman Marcus glossy paper scented strip 50 years ago. It was instant love but on my husband's Navy salary, it was a paper dream. Then I found Fragrantica in 2010, and discovered I was an OAKMOSS (and civet) lover. Since, life has just become better with more fragrance. Thank you, Fragrantica.

Oh, how I miss this lovely fragrance! Woodsy and creamy. I have fond memories attached to it and used to get many comments on how lovely i smelled...If I can find it, it will definitely become one of my faves but unfortunately, it is hard to find here. Breezy yet creamy... simply dreamy like a warm summer day in the woods...

I adored the original Calandre in the 70s or 80s... then forgot about it for some reason. I just got a sample of this and must say it is a sad tale. I totally hate the initial blast of whatever-it-is. It screams at you--HEY HEY HEY--you're wearing perfume!!! What sort of scent?? How should I know? I'm busy blasting you with chemicals!! And maybe flowers! Oh yeah, lots of flowers!! Then, I was patient and waited out of respect for the Calandre that i loved. About 90 minutes in, I sniffed, feeling dejected and expecting nothing good. And there it was! A marvelous shadow of the scent that I had loved. I have no idea which notes were running the show in the dry down at that point but it was so interesting that what I was tempted to scrub away became this lovely thing... But obviously... it's a no buy ever again for me. I WILL find a sample of the original and hope for a better experience.

Hi... I'm new here, so sorry for all the wrong things I may say! This version of CALANDRE was made the year I was born, as was Mother's signature scent, until she died! I've always loved it, but I'm biased! I grew up smeling it, and for me, for decades, it was THE SCENT! As it happens, after long having looked for it, and every store saying it had been discontinued for YEARS (not true then!), I found some bottles at the Paco Rabanne corners in the El corte Inglés stores, in Spain... who knows... PR is spanish, and they kept having huge stocks of discontinued fragrances... I remember I bought Calandre, Derby (Guerlain), Diva (Ungaro) and some others years after they were out of stock everywhere else... and to the VERY sensitive noses, it may have changed, but it's still GREAT, verging on perfection... And I use it only 2 days a year, to remind me of Mum...

This is possibly the most underrated fragrance in the world, and what a sin that it was discontinued. It's full of personality, it's complex, it's incredibly balanced, it's non chalante and exquisite, it's light yet serious, it's grown up but feels young. It is a classic with a young racing heart. I am going to spend some serious time and money for getting my hands on one of these bottles again...My mum wore it and I'd love to have it too.

This fragrance is perfection. It is my mom's signature and because she was busy with RL Lauren for a time, she gave me her last bottle of this. I don't know what to compare it to really. Wearing it makes you feel dressed up, yet clean, and very elegant. It smells like a very luxurious soap with a fizz of champagne. It's been years since I last smelled it but I am still enamored. IMO, this is even classier than Chanel No. 5. I like both.

I didn't expect this. Smells old school, like those aldehydes woody perfumes from the 90s. Like rose, aldehyde and wood, reminds me of Le Dix by Balenciaga a little bit without the iris and powdery/lipstick feel. I'd say it's unisex but it's a bit strong, and very old school not modern at all

What my mother would wear back in the 80's when I was a little girl. Totally suited her.

My staple fragrance during my High School years. Late 70s. So chic and sophisticated.
