Santal Ceremony

I adore this- it has the feel of sun-warmed wood, complex with resin and spice and sweetness yet still light enough to feel cloud-like. Like being enveloped in a puff of Palo Santo. There’s a lyric by Tallest Man on Earth: “you smell like smoke and honey in my arms”. This perfume is that.

I like this!! It is a light/skin scent but it sits really nicely on my skin. Cozy but not "warm" or "spicy", just a comforting, light scent. I used a full sample pretty quickly and just bought the full bottle. I think it'll be great for days I don't really want a 'fragrance' projecting like crazy or as a layering piece. This is what I wanted Another 13 by Le Labo to be for me. I'm completely nose blind to Another 13 but based on how people describe it, this is my version of that. It does warm up nicely, too, if out in heat. One thing to note, it does NOT last very long on the skin. This doesn't really bother me in fragrances I enjoy and I'll happily re-apply, but I know others would be frustrated by its 3-5 hour longevity.

To me, this is another sandalwood fragrance that sits in the same space as Santal 33, Santal du Pacifique, Santal Blanc, and Bois de Balincourt. I like it, it's a pleasant, well-done sandalwood, but given the other sandalwood fragrances I already own, it doesn't offer anything that feels particularly distinctive or memorable. If sandalwood is the note you want front and center, there's a good chance you'll enjoy this one. My main disappointment is the performance: on my skin it stays extremely close to the skin almost from the start and lasts no more than about 90 minutes before becoming barely detectable.

A fresh and warm (in the same time) perfume. I can smell santal & mint. Perfect for spring and fall to my opinion.

This one is basically a spicy scent built over an ambretty musk and sandalwood accord. It is not bad, but neither intriguing. I get the fennel-like, anicey thing from the caraway on me but I smelt this on other skins and it can turn "minty", for the reasons explained by the user below me (I will be back to this after). After the opening it settles down on the ambrette musk already used for Quelque Part. It is so close that I have the suspect that they used almost the same formula for the base of the two fragrances (changing a little bit the notes published to hide the thing). It seems to me that the two fragrances are two slightly different takes on the same ambrette-musk, this one is the spicy one while Quelque Part is the floral one (maybe they thought this as more masculine and the other leaning more feminine even if both are "marketed" as unisex? Who knows). This is quite annoying to me, starting a new brand publishing two of the five fragrances of the first collection sharing the same base? I don't like it. It seems rushed, it smells lack of inspiration (in the first collection...gasp). So, the comparison between the two seems inevitable for me and the winner is quelque part, florals exalt much better the ambrette facets that lean themselves floral than the spices, and picking caraway knowing it can go minty in a fragrance where mint seems quite out of place is a bad choice. Yes it is relaxing, sort of okish and quite doing the job, remembering the name and the general feeling it suggests, but nothing that will be remembered. For the practicalities this is quite unisex, four season, with a low duration (how can a sandalwood fragrance be so short lasting considering all the power of the sinthetic materials often used for this kind of accord?) and a close quarters sillage. Price is good for these days but it remains a let down for me.

I was looking forward to caraway but it seems that I am getting spearmint instead, which is amusing if you know about scent chemistry. Carvone is terpenoid that contributes to the scent of both, but there are two enantiomers, a pair of molecular entities which are mirror images of each other and non-superposable, that result in each respective smell, S-(+)-Carvone for caraway and (R-(−)-carvone) for spearmint. Now that we have the science lesson out of the way, this isn't a terribly exciting approach to sandalwood: its quite light, fresh, and frankly shallow. It also disappears criminally fast, and I really am not one to lambast a good fragrance if it doesn't "performance," but this isn't all that spectacular, so I might as well point out that detail as well. The brand as a whole has an attractive presentation, but all the fragrances are a bit of a let down for me, this being the worst.

Incredibly soft—very, very gentle performance. Something feels very familiar about this too, in a disappointing way. It has a similar profile to me as so many modern woody scents I smell wafting off 20-somethings in my city— quite synthetic, a little headache-inducing, vaguely warm, woody, and spicy but muddled and lacking any personality whatsoever.
