Polo Black

This is my favorite fragrance of all time so far. Yes, the scent is linear, and yes, the longevity isn't great, but the scent profile is incredible. I love and prefer fresh fragrances, and Polo Black is the only fragrance I've come across so far that has such a fresh mango note. Though I have not tested many mango fragrances out there, I've noticed that most make the mango note sweet instead of fresh. I definitely wish that there was a stronger version of this cologne (which there is, Polo Double Black, but it's discontinued), but despite its shortcomings, its currently my favorite fragrance in my collection. If you're like me, and you prefer mass-appealing freshies, this may be the fragrance for you. But you should be aware about its poor performance before purchasing; it lasts about 3-4 hours on my clothes, and even less on my skin. The sillage during that period is not terrible though, I'd say it's moderate. Also, the color-marketing on this fragrance isn't all that accurate. It's not a dark fragrance in any way; No incense, woodiness, mysteriousness, or the notes you expect from a fragrance marketed in that manner, but it does work well at night, because I think that it works any time of the day. Surprisingly, its currently the most complimented fragrance in my collection as well. Update: I bought this fragrance when I only had about 5 fragrances in my collection, and I'm here to say this is still my favorite. I definitely have fragrances that have better scent profiles and performance, but this is still my go-to. I love most if not all of the fragrances in my collection, but after wearing them consistently for a bit, I tend to need a break from their scent profiles. I've only gotten tired of Polo Black once, and it was because I wore it everyday for almost an entire month. But aside from that one time, I can't see myself getting tired of this. I still wish it lasted longer, and hopefully Ralph Lauren will release a parfum version of this, like they did with polo blue and polo red. (Both are bangers, but polo blue is eh, polo red is fantastic). Still a 10/10. It's the only one that my mom points out and compliments every time I wear it, and she hates most of the stuff in my collection 😂 I have other freshies that I love, like nautica voyage (Yes, Nautica voyage. It's so good) but this is still my daily driver.

It's summer, you're on an island, the the sky is blue, not a cloud in sight, and you're enjoying a couple of iced drinks with your friends I must say iced mango is a very fitting description It might be a bit synthetic, but with this fragrance, it doesn't feel like a bad thing. The opening might be the most synthetic moment. It's probably that tangerine note, which I can agree is too sweet, but it does fade quickly. Some people here really are exaggerating that aspect of it, which i have to say I find pretty unfair Also, I've been seeing the word "generic" thrown around without any thought behind it. This is far from generic. It is in fact quite unique. You don't see mango fragrances dominating the mainstream. This really goes to show that some reviewers are just parrots, repeating words without understanding them Having covered that the opening might be responsible for most of the negative reviews, luckily, that isn't where it truly shines As soon as the tangerine fades, mango takes the stage. And it's a very exquisite airy mango, I guess that's why it's referred to as iced. Very uplifting, very light. And not overly sweet, just the amount you would expect from a real mango. Then, the slow drydown into sandalwood feels luxurious, smooth, and well executed These are my two cents. You've got to enjoy fruity scents in general to be able to appreciate this one. All in all, it's a pretty simple scent, mango and sandalwood. But simple is not bad. In fact, it's hard to achieve simple, without sacrificing good. Credit where it's due. And since right now it's not too popular, and is incredibly versatile, it's definitely signature scent-worthy

Polo Black is fantastic, Fresh, unique, smooth, understated, versatile, classy and works great for a date night, office, beach and shines in the heat. For $50-$60 this is a steal, will always have this in my collection as it is blended well and is smooth from start to finish. Nothing offensive in this fragrance at all, does not smell synthetic to me, performance is below average but then again, many fresh or light fragrances are not meant to be beasts. Don't sleep on Polo Black. If you like Polo Deep Blue or any of the polo blues, this would not be redundant and is terrific when you want an understated and "Safe" fragrance to wear and you can go heavy on the trigger if you choose. I will always have this in my collection and woman tend to like this from my experience more than any of my way too many bottles. Great Summer night fragrance both formal or casual. Hope they keep making this and I hope it stays under the radar as I have yet to find anything similar.

This shit is amazing man I feel like it's either a love or a meh, for me it's a love. I understand those that say this is basic / generic and while that may be true, I personally find the smell just really damn good. Definitely has this fresh, modern, stylish businessman kind of vibe that I just resonate with personally. Perfect for occasions where you do not want to be the center of attention but rather discovered, and make no mistake this is not gone in 30 minutes guys nose fatigue is a real thing, and while it's no beast either it still gets 4-6 hours on my skin with a nice scent bubble for the first 2-3 hours. Perfect for evening dinners / occasions in general, office use, anything really. Yea it's 50/50 for you to either go WOW I LOVE THIS or Wow this is average. I find it to be one of those scents I keep grabbing the bottle just to smell and I wanna wear it all the time.

I believe Polo Black is one of those fragrances that does not get the credit it deserves. Conceptually it was 5 years ahead of the fruity-woody craze launched by Aventus and although they do not smell alike, the underlying idea behind both is, I think, similar. With PB you get an intense mango that never gets sweet and fleeting due to the support given to it by the more sparkling and herbal/woody undertone: it does "vibrate" with some darkness (for lack of a better descriptor; not "dark" in the way of the tonka laden fragrances that are usually labeled "black") giving it some elegance and style. The tension between the freshness of the mango and this dark aspect makes it very appropriate for summer evening activities (something like an open-air dinner, not for "clubbing"). It projects and lasts adequately for that type of use. I like it very much

Polo Black is a nice all around scent. Could be worn almost anywhere. Longevity 6 to 8 hours with an arms length of projection. And a 4+ hour trailing scent. I can still smell it in the morning but is a light skin scent. Opening is very nice, no major blast of alcohol and you can see the oils on your skin after the dry down. This is what I would call a slightly sweet freshie. It’s approaching 10 years on the market, but that tells you it’s still loved. As far as an age for wearing this, it probably would be more suited in the 30+ range. The thing is it’s called black, but it kind of leans blue, but it is a little more on the darker side, which gives it good longevity even in cooler weather. But is not overbearing and warm weather. You could make this a signature sent because it’s very versatile and can be worn anytime anywhere

Blimey! Polo Black is awesome. I'm not going into notes and all that but it is one of the best things I have ever had the pleasure of smelling. I instantly smile when I spray it on. I will however, address the potency. I'm always amused when someone claims it only lasts 30 minutes, or a couple hours. Those are the people, who when casually met at a bar, or the workplace, or at the grocery who choke you with their over-sprayed colognes when passing by at a few feet. Longevity is fine. But only for those with taste I assume. If you happen to get into my personal space, even after 5 or 6 hours after application, funny! I get compliments. Just because you can't smell it does not mean everyone around you can't.

AGAGGAGHHHHHH POLO WHYYYYYYYY😭😭 this stuff smells so damn GOOD omgggg its delicious super versatile and pretty unique I love everything about this smell but GOOD LORD just like every other Polo , it smells absolutely amazing but it literally does not last more than 30 minutes on my skin, and even when you first spray it it’s such a light smell, i swear polo would probably be my favorite designer brand if they could figure out how to make their smells last longer than 30 seconds, I’m not even kidding. This would literally be my signature sent if anyone could actually smell it after an hour😵😵😵😵 I stole might pick up a full bottle though just because I like the smell so damn much😭

I had this one when I was in college. I wore it when I was dating a second year law student and she really liked it. It did well enough that it was my signature scent until Lacoste Essential dethroned it for the summer of my senior year. I think it's an inoffensive, work safe scent that's a good dumb reach. Wearing it today. What a lot of people hate about today's Ralph Lauren scents, I don't mind. You get the same scent for the dry down that you get from the opening, and they're generally citrus and mass appealing. Which is fine, to be honest. It's not an experience, but it's pleasant enough and it's work safe, date safe, and it smells nice.

This is one of my favorite Polo fragrances. I love the top notes just as much as the bottom notes. I think it can be worn in the summer, but I think it works better in the cooler temperatures. It certainly isn't a winter fragrance. It is fruity with an herbal freshness. It isn't a typical shower gel fragrance; this one is unique and memorable. It is a well blended unique fragrance that is very easy to wear and gets many complements. Great for the office and casual wear. The performance is typical of RL, which is sad. I think they do that so we, the consumer, use more of it. Lovely fragrance with a touch of elegance.

Use to be my signature back in my high school days 2010-2014 got me hella compliments. I only keep an old bottle in my collection now just to remember those days lol. This and Aqua di gio were my only scents. On me I get a creamy smooth aquatic icy mango vibe back in the day this stuff lasted a full day on my skin when your skin temp heats up is when this shines. Think the newer bottles got reformulated. For now though my go to mango scent is Vulcan fue pretty much a updated version of this and louder tbh.

This is a hidden gem! 💎 The mango 🥭🥭🥭 here is the star of the show! It's very fresh and invigorating it's simply the best when you want a boost of energy to your psyche. ⚡ 💪🏻 Ralph Lauren lists only three notes: Iced mango, Silver armoise (which is wormwood / artemisia), and Patchouli Noir 🖤 This is my go-to fragrance when hitting the gym or running errands. 🏋️ 🛍️ 🚘 Excellent projection as expected from an EDT, and I really wish they made it in a EDP too. This scent is unfortunately glossed over and "pooh-poohed" by reviewers these days. For me, it is a rich, warm, yet vibrant and well-constructed winter scent where the depth of the fragrance balances well the woodyness with powder on the one hand and a fruity, slightly tropical freshness on the other. I wear it to classical concerts/opera and evening functions. It is always noticed in a positve light and is not a heavy overpowering fragrance at all. Well worth trying if you haven't already!

Firstly, Should be Polo yellow, black is normally synonymous for noir type scents, second men don't care for it but woman LOVE it. Everytime I wear it woman always compliment me on it but I am personally apathetic towards it. The main reason for this is the hedione in it, which is wrongly not listed as a note, but this stimulates the release the sex hormones encoupled with juicy tropical fruits and let's just say your gonna have a good night. Your mates won't like it but your missus will!!

Polo black is my wife's favorite fragrance! I love the top notes, it is very versatile year-round and day-night. Could wear this for any occasion though it leans more on the casual side. It does not project enough to o clubbing with it, but will make her eyes roll up close. Longevity goes for about 2-3h more on the 3h side, but at that point it sits very close to my skin. This smells like nothing I have in my collection but you can tell it's a RL cologne. Worth buying at discounted price.

Initially smells like body spray or deodorant - nice, clean but unremarkable. The mango is subtle and slightly ‘green’ - not sickly, sweet and juicy - and it takes a while to recognise what it is. Once you pay it a bit of attention, it actually smells more unique than it first seems. Overall it’s very pleasant, inoffensive, unpretentious. And sometimes, less is more. It’s perfect for when you’re trying to smell good without trying to make a statement.

Hopefully RL has a new black on the horizon, this stuff is so good...its so unique as well as it's scent has this tropical vibe and being named Black . The mango and tangerine just makes for this smooth creamy tropical feel and then the sandalwood adds this underlying woodsy touch to it all, its pretty damn good. It requires a little extra spraying to really reinforce it but it's performance is decent. I love it and I think it's a bit underrated.

The moment the teenager discovered night outs This was my first “grown man” signature scent. Early 2000’s and still having space in my nostalgia collection. Back then, Polo Black smelled sophisticated to me. The mango opening mixed with woods and cardamom still feels unique today. Very early-2000s in the best possible way: sexy without trying too hard. Honestly, it still smells cooler than a lot of modern releases. Really easy to wear

This is a seriously underated perfume. I've had a bottle since 2010 and it has to be my most complemented fragrance. It's actually one of my first purchases and one which started my perfume journey. This is a scent I can always rely on, and tend to wear it on special occasions. The longevity and sillage is also fantastic. Unsure what the newer batches are like in comparison and yet to try the Double Black version funnily enough.

This smells fantastic on my husband and we got it for a great price at TJ Maxx. It's fruity and citrus-y but only for 20 min., then it has this lovely manly dry down. Like nostalgic classic man smell but clean and not to powerful. Herbaceous more than chemical. Great for the price. Unfortunately my husband isn't a big fan because he doesn't like citrus. He's a strait up woods guy. But I do convince him to wear it every so often.

Looked up the polo black notes, saw it was tropical with mango! I’m the same day I scored myself a 30ml and for a blind buy, 1 spray on my wrist and love it! It totally overtook my Clinique Happy that I put on this morning: I previously blind bought polo blue gold label and never liked it, wasn’t confident in Ralph Lauren fragrances but will be looking at others especially polo sport fresh and polo red.

Man I really love this cologne. I love the unique scent profile. There is nothing similar. It gets almost no love nowadays. I admit I have not received any compliments on this one. Maybe ii compliments my chemistry. However I personally find it amazing and long lasting fresh tropical and lightly woody. I will love it even if no one else loves it. But also love obsession ck and cool water over git.

I just smelled this on a guy at work and had to compliment him for it and ask what it was. He said "is it too powerful?" and I said "no it's perfect, i have to get me some". It's funny though, with all of the "meh" comments here, it reminds me that fragrances are very personal, and what strikes one as average, weak or old smelling may smell wonderful to another person.

Best scent in the world. But be careful, the 125 ml bottles I've bought over the years are very much watered down by some reason. The 40 ml and the 75 ml always deliveres though, I don't know why the big bottles doesn't smell anything. This have been a common problem the last couple of years. Nothing can beat this.

Found this while helping family clean out my Uncle's house and he gave it to me. I really enjoy this scent. It's fresh, fruity, sweet, and very tropical. This would fitting for a vacation to somewhere like Hawaii. Also it's one of those extremely versatile scents that can be worn anywhere and everywhere.

A bit sickening on the opening but then after it dries down it turns out very nice. It's been an hour and it already seems to be fading away although I only sprayed it once so maybe more is needed but I'm worried it will be nauseating if I apply too much Seems like great night time scent anyway

I find this a warm, rich and dressy fragrance which I reserve for evening wear in winter. It is suitable for going to a symphony concert or the opera. Not too heavy to be around but very special and sophisticated, lively but deep at the same time. Good balance. Under appreciated.

I first wore this back in 05/06. I remember the great performance this juice had, brutal projection and great longevity. The scent remains lovely, but the performance is quite shity... Shame RL you fuc.... ed up one of the most beautiful perfums made. Maybe during hotter months.

Very Masculine, mango heavy scent. I sprayed it and it lasted 9-10 hrs on skin, decent projection, but it is a very strong smell. It also got on a little on my suit and was on there for 2 days. This fragrance fills up a van with just 2-3 sprays when I first tried it.

One of my all time favorites. A balanced, versatile masterpiece. Light but rich. Casual yet classy. Day or night. Aromatic and sweet with a tiny tiny tiny hint of leather or suede. A tiny bit synthetic but it’s such an endearing perfect fragrance.

Probably one of the most beautiful perfumes out of my 1000 perfumes. very masculine, sporty but still elegant, a modern classic. a bit bvlgari aqua homme (2005), clinique happy with less lemon and Armani aqua dio gio (1996) without flowers. 10/10

This is a really good fragrance, it's versatile and has a great iced mango scent, but, it's weak, sometimes the fragrance is gone within 1 hour. Which makes it way overpriced. Smell 8/10 Longevity 2/10 Projection 3/10- intimate

When I smell this on a man I instantly have to do a double take. Like..."Who the hell has this on?" So much better than the Polo green. It's tropical and clean but aquatic. It's not heavy.

Just got this masterpiece off of beautyhouse.com. It is so freaking good. Smells so tropical and fruity. Definitely would buy again if I had the chance to. Pick this one up yall!

Even though is a lineal, simple, daily use fragrance, I love the scent! It's a shame it has a poor POOR projection and sillage, good longevity on skin. Manly.

It’s the 1980’s in a bottle. Great scent, fruity and likeable. Truly one of the very best from Ralph LAUREN. This is the smell of the young at heart......

This is criminally weak with zero projection. Beautiful skin scent, but never more than that. A waste of money. So weak.
