Polo Blue

My first and still favorite scent. First encountered it in a Sport Illustrated Swimsuit edition. To my pubescent nose it was the greatest smell I had ever experienced. It was the only fragrance I owned for most of my life, and it still holds up. What else can I say about it? It's consistent. It smells fresh, pleasant, masculine, and, as the name suggests, it evokes the color "blue." Even as I've gotten deeper into fragrances, I've still kept coming back to this one whenever I want to smell fresh. Is it the most complex, highbrow fragrance around? No. But it's not trying to be. It's suitable for any situation when the sun is out. It's probably not ideal for winter, or for "cozy date" vibes, or nighttime in general, although really there's no reason you couldn't go out on a date, or to a bar, etc., with this on. It's incredibly versatile for pretty much any daytime situation that you would want to smell good for. In fact, I think there are many guys out there who own this fragrance (or one like it), and then maybe one other one for "going out," and call it a day. And those guys will still smell better than 90% of their peers. For the average guy, this fragrance alone will do 50-100% of everything you need from a cologne. It's hard to imagine anyone actively disliking this smell. I would say it's a masterpiece insofar as its designers accomplished everything that they were setting out to do: make a middle-tier designer fresh blue masculine and aquatic-y scent with broad-spectrum appeal. As far as performance goes, what they made was honestly better quality than needed for the concept, with really respectable projection and longevity for a freshie with its price-point.

One of the few vintage fragrances that even after decades & several reformulations keeps its original essence; Polo Blue EDT is one of the blue prints, no pun intended, for fresh fragrances that are entering their 3rd decade of dominating the fragrance world! While its not unique by today's standards since this DNA exist everywhere now its still lovely. What I like is its gentle, many fresh or "blue" fragrances fall into three categories in my opinion, either a harsh citrus edge (think Versace Pour Homme), akin to rubbing alcohol, a musky base (think Dylan Blue) or an aquatic base. . . Polo Blue EDT is very aquatic & the cucumber is very realistic & why I think its still selling today. Its refined, simple & masculine. Cucumber is still greatly underutilized in mens perfumery 23 years after this fragrances creation & its sad! After the cucumber i get a honey dew melon scent, melon is listed so its definitely that generic melon vibe but nice. Orange, woods & musk grow stronger as the dry down develops! For such a light fragrance it still has decent performance capping at around 6 hours. It opens unisex leaning masculine then becomes more traditionally masculine as it goes. Very good simple & timeless fragrance!

IGNORE THIS REVIEW. IT WAS BASED ON A BOTTLE THAT I NOW KNOW HAD GONE BAD AND SO HAS BEEN TRASHED. ------- Thought I lucked out upon finding a half-full bottle dated September '23. Perhaps it had been stored in a hot car because there are zero lighter notes or florals left -- it goes straight into a weak, flat mix of basil/sage/suede/wood. There's no way it came from the manufacturer like this...is there? As is, mine most closely resembles classic Right Guard (copper can) only much weaker. It would be more appropriate in a brown glass bottle reserved for fall but, even there, it doesn't have much character to recommend it. It's thoroughly insipid, doing nothing that several brownish-green frags already do very well. So for the heat of summer (90° all week) I'll just stick with Polo's Deep Blue, Aqua Quorum, Dunhill Desire Blue, etc. [ I know this is an unfair review since it's based on what has to be an abnormal bottle, but I'm just going by what I smell]

To start off, Polo Blue deserves much more attention. This fragrance is so easy to wear for the office, school, and warm settings.. The ozonic note gives it the vibe that you're sitting in the ocean on a sailboat. This fragrance also pulls an impressive amount of compliments. The aquatic and unique melon note make it an easy to like scent. Once it gets to it's base notes, it gives a manly vibe due to the musk and leather that is blended beautifully. Even though it isn't the most complex scent, it does wonders and smells beautiful. The only points I could take off is performance and how it can smell like strong alcohol right when you spray it. But 30 seconds after, the smell is amazing. Performance: 7/10 Longevity: 7.5/10 Compliments: 8.5/10 Smell: 9/10 Overall: 8/10

My 2002 bottle was almost gone, so I purchased another slightly newer, but still vintage bottle, ultimately settling for a 2007 bottle. After a lot of digging to no avail before purchasing however, I could not find a definitive answer as to when Polo Blue received its first reformulation. I can 100% unequivocally tell you that by at least 2007, this release had already received its first reformulation. My 2007 bottle isn’t quite as spicy, soapy, and overall layered as well as my 2002 bottle. I most certainly didn’t get ripped off for what I paid, but I was expecting to go for the gold medal. Instead I unknowingly settled for the silver. Oh well, I guess I should be lucky to have even gotten that, considering today’s lame, modern releases.

Many people say this smells like masculine shower gel, and I agree. But, I still love the smell. I decided to buy it after smelling the tester bottle, but at that time I did now know about projection and longevity. Pretty sure nobody’s smelled this on me, ever, as it is very weak and doesn’t project very well. Still love the opening, but in my opinion still not worth the money, as nobody’s actually ever going to smell it on you. And yes, you might be able to overspray, but in my opinion, that just ruines this fragrance. Love the smell, even though it smells generic. Would probably not buy it again if it somehow went empty on me, but since it stays largely unused, it probably won’t. Buy it if you want to, but I don’t recommend.

Man I love it. That classy fresh vibe remembers me my uncle, because he was wearing all the time this fragrance and i discovered first time at him. I bought two 200ml sets a year ago for me and gifted one to my friend. He loved it. This is definitely that fragrance ultimately needs maceration . Because that makes this fragrance unbelievable rich in sense of notes. I don't know what musk smells, but one distinct note or notes catches me so bad every time I can't stop myself to smelling that. I don't know how to describe that distinct smell if it is musk i have to find musky ones asap. I just touched the bottle cap smell spread over my hand. I am looking this kind of fragrances as a classic masculine fresh scents.

Absolute banger of a smell... during the summer. This is something you can blind buy and enjoy during the summer. You can also wear it during the winter, spring and fall it's a very casual smell. But I think it is a smell that many people will associate with the summer and the beach.. so maybe stick to the summer while wearing it. I'm not even going to try to explain the scent, while the scent isn't complex I can't name anything comparable, the closest thing I can think of is a summer day at the beach with a lemon ice in your hand? As with all EDT's the sillage and longevity sucks, so I guess take one of those portable sprayers and re-spray every 2-3 hours. (less is always more)

Polo Blue is a wonderful, clean, crisp scent that is worth every penny! However....(and this is true for nearly all Ralph Lauren frags) the atomizers that come on these bottles are very sub-par sprayer's (wide, puffy, weak spray pattern) and therefore you're probably getting a lot less juice than you might think you are applying! This fact could lead one to assume that the product is weak or not performing well which may not be the case. For a clean aquatic, I find this to last a good 6-7 hours on average which is very acceptable! Can't go wrong with Blue, just make sure you apply it correctly and it just might be great for everyday use or even signature scent! (8/10)

This is one of my most complimented signature office frag back in the day. It first came out in 2003 so its almost 20 years ago. I don't wear it anymore as a go to scent but I kept a small bottle just to reminisce our good times together once in awhile. Up to this day, its masculine scent profile still fascinates me so I bought its Deep Blue flanker with the same DNA, with some subtle difference, but smells good just the same. Some folks are not a big fan of this and some folks adore it but it had its glory days. Clean, gorgeous and refreshing, this is one of the best blue fragrances that I experienced in my collection. 9.5/10 to a reliable and memorable perfume.

Found this at one of my local rack stores and been wanting to finally buy this classic blue....so I pulled the trigger! I'm very much a blue fragrance guy and fell deeply in love with this one! I can see why this classic has been around for years and dub one of the Mt. Rushmore of blues. I really want to try the Parfum version next. I got average performance with 5-7 hours of longevity ( 6 mostly). Decent project( arm's length)for the first 2 hours with it still projecting nicely( 1-2ft off skin)into hour 4. Looking forward of using more of this fragrance in the near future.....great versatile as well!!

Classic Masterpiece! I have a bottle of this fragrance that I own from 2014 that’s almost done. I just revisit this fragrance just to remember the time I was on cruise and this was my fragrance on my trip. I love the cucumber accord and melon accord in this fragrance its very unique and calming and pleasing. The only issue is the fragrance does not last long. I just spray this fragrance into my cars A/C unit and it just puts me at peace and tranquillity. Many people hate on this fragrance like douche bag jeremey fragrance but this is truly a masterpiece. This is the OG of blue fragrance.

My small bottle is 10 years old. I love it, especially in summer in my climate (hot dry Med style), but I rarely wear it because of how quick it would evaporate away. The cucumber and melon are so fresh and summery, but as masterful as those topnotes are, I feel sure that I have no memory of the basenotes. One to carry to spray before a train ride home to smell fresh during, and almost until you get home. Comments below imply re-formulation has changed the DNA but made it last longer. In truth I'm not sure which way round I prefer that.

2022 bottle. Absolutely excellent. Fresh yet subtle, dignified, and not at all boring or generic. There are several other blues/aquatics that I own and enjoy, but it'll be hard for most of them to rank with Polo Blue. Fully deserves its rep as a classic among classics. Somewhere below is my review from almost a year ago of a used bottle. That bottle had been left in a hot car or something. I'd suspected it was ruined but didn't know that for sure. Now I do.

Inoffensive, light, versatile, and fresh. Love the melon/cucumber top notes. My favorite blue frag. Will always be in my rotation. It's never going to be a super unique or attention-grabbing frag. It's safe. Soapy. As other reviewers put it, it's very "shower gel." Office safe & fit for the gym. Something you've smelled before, but still one of the best in its category. Not much else to say. 9/10

To each his own: I find this fragrance to be very classy... It does not last long (max 50-60 minutes)... It does not project (maybe if you're in the same car)... Good price at discounters, overpriced at retailers... Great for Spring/Summer/Office... Definitely a polo-shirt and boat-shoes type of fragrance... That said, I re-purchase before I run out; can't say that about many of my fragrances.

The perfect middle ground between blue and green. Smells like a sailing trip on a bright blue day, where the aromas of mossy earth and salty sea air intertwine. A young, well-to-do 30 something steers the boat without a care in the world. The wind in his hair, the sun in his eyes, the undulating waves lapping beneath his feet. Worth a purchase for the invigorating cucumber note alone.

I have not worn this in such a long time. I can still remember and picture this having the most gorgeous opening scent profile. It smelled heavenly for those first few seconds. Now thanks to fragrantica I can see it was that cucumber, melon & mandarin orange combination. Will definitely be going back to this when I have a space for another casual open up in the collection.

I personally love this, and my family does as well. I think a "generic" smell is something that only fragrence nerds end up caring about. This is fresh and clean smelling while remaining classically masculine and utterly inoffensive. I would say it is slightly overpriced, but this is the perfect blind buy as a gift or if you like fresh and clean smelling fragrence.

aquatic and softer than red, definitely better than ralph lauren red bc blue is more fearless and she has that softer side where shes more vulnerable than red and easy breezy beautiful covergirl. honestly she kinda tore. i kinda love her??? like whyd yall let her end you guys.
