Polo Red

My first encounter with Polo Red occurred in 2014 when I started into Fragrance World. One day I was playing at the house of one of my rich clients, while I was waiting, his son passed by and smelled a really good scent, I asked him "what perfume do you wear? it's really good", he replied: "Polo Red bro." Then a few months later when I hit my friend's car (who is also rich), he smelled the same scent, and sure enough he put Polo Red in his car. From there, what was in my head about Polo Red was "The Fragrance of Rich People's Son". Since I started collecting perfume, I always wanted to have Polo Red, but unfortunately....It's expensive That year, when the price of CK, Bvlgari & Burberry perfume was still around IDR 250K-400K, and Paco Rabanne, CH212 & Versace was still 500-600K. Polo Red is already perched at 800 K. My poorman's soul immediately flared up and was forced to bury the desire to own this perfume. Years passed, when my nose began to be rich in vocabulary notes and understand the quality of juice/blending, and began to enter the territory of "Niche" then I saw Polo Red again, my "Fraghead Soul" said, "why buy Polo Red, a perfume that is too simple , cheap quality, sluggish SPL..blah blah.." finally this perfume was removed from the list of perfume collections and my target. Until last month, because maybe my nose has started to get stuffy with complex fragrances, plus my wife has been complaining lately that she keeps buying strange smelling perfumes.. OK, next time I'll buy a pleasing perfume. When looking at pleasing perfumes that have hype on the market such as; Eros, Sauvage, Y, seems like a boring choice. So that's where I remembered Polo Red again, and immediately bought it Presentations : Simple and Impressive..Simple bottle, only one Polo logo image, no writing. The bottle is in Testarossa (burning red) color, has a glossy finish which makes the red color really glow, then combined with the matte black cap, it makes the overall look so dignified and up class, you don't get tired of looking at the bottle Sprayer : It's just normal, typical of a sprayer that is focused (not wide), the positive is that it can spray from afar but it causes drips if we spray hesitantly or only press half (half press) Reviews: As usual, I spray on paper strips, hands and clothes. If you stick it directly to your nose, there will be a bit of alcohol blast and a synthetic effect, but only for a few seconds. As soon as the perfume lingers in the air, wooaah it's soooo good. Fruity & Citrus nuances blend perfectly, where the aroma of Cranberry fruit takes a dominant role decorated with grapefruit and lemon, these notes make the fragrance very good but not common, especially for Indo people who have never smelled or eaten the fruit, the impression it creates is a fresh & clean fragrance . Another positive thing that I like is that the opening is quite a project but polite, unlike the Eros gang who are playful but have the potential to get drunk. The sweet character in Polo Red is very smooth and polite, he doesn't come to other people's noses with the flamboyance of Eros/Flame/Y, but comes with calm and cool. The opening lasts quite a long time, 30 minutes, then towards the middle notes phase, saffron and slightly woody notes emerge, where the earthy nuances of thin saffron and woody make it feel masculine. At the end of the mid phase, there is a slight aroma of coffee and amber. It's a thousand pity, the base phase in this perfume doesn't seem to appear because the longevity of this perfume is moderate to low, it only smells when we put our nose to the spray point SPL : The performance of this perfume is like a sprinter, all the beauty occurs during the initial opening and projection phases, the drydown and the basenote are very thin. The initial projection is 2-3 hours max, and the longevity is only 5 hours with normal spray mode. So, overspray is mandatory and spray more on clothes, because it can increase the longevity for a few hours and maintain the aroma of the top notes which are the main strengths of this perfume. Versatility : Fragheads who worship SPL might have skipped this until SPL part, even though what makes this perfume special apart from its scent opening is Versatility. This perfume is not only "Versatile" but also "Reliable". Everyone can wear this perfume, high school/college children, office workers to wealthy businessmen in their 40s are still suitable. This perfume can also be used all the time, all seasons and all occasions, starting from casual, formal office until invitations are still coming in, day and night, hot and rainy... Yes, that versatile. This perfume is a Ready to go fragrance, reliable when we don't want to think too much about which perfume to use, such as having sudden guests, sudden meetings, or sudden appointments for dates, so reliable, because we know, you won't go wrong with this perfume. and...Women Love it When I just got home after buying this perfume, my wife was on standby in front of the room and asked, "what perfume did you buy?" I immediately sprayed it on his hand and he immediately said, "Well, if you buy perfume, this is really good..!!!". Likewise with office friends, all say it smells good Final Verdict : If this perfume is analogous to a car, it is the Toyota Fortuner. A car with normal specifications and features, mediocre performance and power, poor handling, not economical either, but expensive. Surprisingly, many people like and buy this car, no matter how rich a person is, they must have a Fortuner at home, for middle and lower class people, the Fortuner is a dream car for their family, for women, seeing a guy carrying a Fortuner is macho and has a class of its own. Why ? simply because people pay high price not only because of the quality, but also versatility and reliability. The Fortuner is brought to work, between school children, hangouts, to touring/roadtrips between islands, everything can be devoured. Whether it's college kids, office workers, company bosses, officials, officials, to OKBs who want to be looked up to and want to be arrogant on the streets, all of them are suitable for Fortuner. That's Polo Red, maybe for Fraghead this perfume is "meh", but the majority of people like it, it's no wonder that many rich kids use it :D Pros: - One of the sweet perfumes with the most delicious opening notes - The fragrance stands alone, not in the direction of other sweet perfumes - Compliment Getter, everyone especially women like it - Very Versatile and Reliable - Sweet fruity fragrance that has a smooth and polite character, not worried about overspray Cons: - Longevity is sluggish, you have to spray a lot on your clothes to improve performance and maintain the top notes fragrance - Expensive Cheers...

Before I began to get into fragrances that lasted longer than three hours, I had two: Polo Blue Eau de Parfum and this, Polo Red Eau de Toilette. Warm weather and cool weather (Not cold, that rarely happens in Texas...). Mind you, even now that I've padded out my selection with ten choices, I've still found opportunities to wear Polo Red. Longevity aside, which I'll get to, the actual scent is really good. Starts out with a bitter cranberry, some spices (Saffron?), and some sweet citruses to keep from smelling too much like the dessert portion at Christmas. Quite nice. The cranberry doesn't hang around for too long before it dries down to a warm amber with some lingering citrus and... coffee. Plenty of people don't get the coffee note, and you really have to "search" for it but it's there. Not so much a sweet, creamy coffee like a latte, as it is that bitter edge you get from a good, strong dark roast that military types like. The stuff that's still bitter no matter how much hazelnut creamer you pour in there. As great as this sweet/bitter scent is, this is not one you can spray once and expect it to last like Sauvage. It really needs two sprays to get some staying power, but it can be cloying if you overspray so I'd excercise caution. Part of the longevity issue I've found over the years, is the atomizer doesn't spray much on the initial press, which seems like a common Ralph Lauren trait unfortunately. Just spray twice and you're golden. Regarding when to wear, I'd definitely keep this one for cooler seasons, whatever that means for you. On a humid, summer day, this is miserably cloying, a mistake I made just once. Polo Red EDT is great for casual wear, nights out, and the holidays. It's too sweet to work with formal wear in my opinion, I tried that too and it always felt off. I don't own Guerlain's Habit Rouge EDT, so for me Polo Red EDT is THE red fragrance. I almost think of it as a gourmand for people who aren't really into gourmands. The cranberry/coffee combo toes the line, and serves as my "gourmand." Now that I have more lasting cool/cold weather scents, Polo Red is my choice for festivities around Thanksgiving and Christmas. Like Polo Blue EDP, I'll still come back to this one on occasion just to enjoy its festive warmth. A solid choice for those who like sweet fragrances, not bad as a year rounder if you live in a cooler climate either.

This is a really nice and elegant fruity scent done just right. It's sweet but not too sweet and has a refinement that just hits the mark with me. One of Ralph Lauren's best in my opinon. The current formulation in the new refillable bottle smells great with a strong cranberry in the opening and it and lasts a fair amount of time for me like 5-6 hours, that's if you spray on clothes! It lasts longer on clothing and gives off enough of a noticeable sillage as you move around. The coffee is detectable to me in the latter part of the drydown. This was released way back in 2013 and I feel it kind of set the tone for a lot of the modern masculine scents today, but this one still holds up very well, garners compllments, and simply smells better to me than most scents done in a similar style. There's just a certain classiness about this one and any age group can wear this. I would also say it’s easily versatile enough for most seasons except maybe the high heat in the summer. This could be staple dumb reach in any collection. Now if the house would just bring back the Intense and Extreme flankers.

I recently tried the whole Polo lineup , and this was the only one I kept. In my opinion, it is the best and most versatile of the line. As many have noted, the fruity-spicy opening is remarkable, and it mellows down as time passes by. It doesn't take long before it becomes a skin scent, so don't be afraid to apply generously on skin and clothes. Spraying on clothes will give you better sillage and it will increase the chance to get you compliments. I've found most compliments come when people get really close to me, at arm's length. This one's definitely not a room filler. It is office-safe, blind buy safe, and a great date scent, although that was not my primary goal when I purchased it. My only regret is not buying the big 100ml bottle when I had the chance. I went for the 30ml bottle because it was cheap. I should' of invested a bit more then. I think every man should have Polo Red in his collection.

I always ignored this line of the POLO fragrances because of the "Cranberry" note...thinking that would be weird or off-puttingly bright. I likened it to "Yuzu", which I also dislike, without ever smelling it. Boy was I mistaken!! I received a bottle of this from a friend as a gift recently and it has blown my socks off!! Yes, it does start out with that bright and tart Cranberry and Grapefruit two-punch combo...but when the mids of Coffee, Clary Sage and Saffron kick in...WHOOWEE...Oh my goodness gracious is it AMAZING!! I never expected such a warm, comforting and masculine fragrance to come out of this. Needless to say, I'm hooked and I think I will pick up a back up bottle of this...since the first was free. Also because it doesn't last as long as I'd hoped. I'll burn thru this in no time flat... EDIT: Yup...just like I thought...layers PERFECTLY with my vanillas!! 08/10

IMO, a must have in a collection. It is pleasant, neutral, calm, does not scream. It is not a club/fuckboy perfume, but still pretty mainstream. The description of notes matches to the smell: cranberry, citrus, sage, woody notes. At first, ( maybe first two hours on you) - pleasant cranberry smell, with lemon and all the top notes. Then, middle notes give transition to the woody and coffee notes, so imo, it perfectly develops itself. I have to say though, I got to experience this perfume on other people before, and I got myself a 8ml sample, so I did not blind bought and knew what I was getting. If you never smelled it before, then do not blind buy it. I would highly suggest to get 8ml sample. This perfume is not super crazy good, but I also think that it is very far from cheap, horrible, synthetic perfumes.

As others have put it, this scent is a great one. This is the type of scent (for me) that I would use on a casual date, at school, or on a nice day out. I have received many compliments from men and women while wearing this fragrance. I do feel that this scent is a great compliment getter especially from women! The smell is amazing with the notes working well together to create a really good sweet masculine smell. The fruits with coffee mixes nicely on this. The problems I have with this Polo Red is the initial scent before the dry down smells a bit synthetic. Also, I wish the longevity, silage, and projection were stronger. This would be an incredible cologne if it was just stronger. Lovely fragrance that remains as my personal favorite. Scent: 9.5/10 Longevity: 6.9/10 Projection: 6.8/10

Smooth blend of amber, cranberry and sage. Unique and somewhat generic fresh scent. Longevity is below average and has a balanced masculine notes as well. This is my first time wanting a amber floral citrus scent, I kind of love this combination. Edit: recently realized that it's basically dylan blue with a twist of sage and cranberry juice, and has a very weak sillage and longitivity. Idk how to feel about it. Edit #2: a sample of this had been growing on me since and i have been thinking about a full bottle, it might be faint and smell similar to other generics however it still comes out on top in terms of quality compared to the rest, this is so odd. Edit #3: got it.

Once again, i recommend readers to be weary of Fragrantica reviews. Yesterday, I purchased a bottle of this gem, and after reading many reviews, I then became bummed that I had bought a great smelling, but incredibly poorly performing scent. So, before going to work, I oversprayed, hoping to get an hour of scent. We'll, here I am on my lunch break, and I am happy to report this masterpiece has been a powerhouse all morning. Funny, not in a literal powerhouse, but gentle, but clearly there type. Fantastic, alluring, unique scent. The notes are there. Very nice. So glad, because so far, ALL of my Ralph Lauren fragrances are bangers. Yep, I'm a fan boy. Money well spent.

Can't remember if if reviewed this yet, but I've been wearing it more lately and just moved it from a "like" to a "love." This stuff is just so easy to enjoy. I don't every find it cloying or harsh. The level of sweetness is just right. The coffee isn't overly strong or bitter. The cranberry adds that spark on top. It's masculine but modern. You could wear it year-round, though I prefer it in the fall and spring. Performance isn't phenomenal, but not many fragrances are. If you want it to pop more, spray more and it will. At around $40 - 45 on discounters for a 4.2 oz. bottle, this stuff is a steal. Highly recommend.

Man, I love the smell of this so much. I know it's not that old, but I think of it as a classic for fall. It's a great blend. The coffee doesn't stick out; it's all seamless to me except that I get a hint of cranberry. Other than that, it's just warm, ambery, fall goodness that is not resinous or heavy. I don't see any reason you couldn't sport this year-round, but I prefer to make it an autumn scent. Office appropriate; performance is moderate. This can be worn by men of any age, and you can get a 4.2 oz. tester for around $35. I think that's an excellent deal. When the leaves are red, wear Polo Red.

As someone who rarely buys Cologne let me tell you this: Trust your nose! After not having any Cologne for quite some time i decided it was time to go out there and pick the right one for me. I pretty much went through the entire selection of testers and nearly walked out at how boring and 'management employee' they were. Then i got to this one, Polo Red, the only Cologne that put a smile on my face. A pleasure to wear and the wife likes it too... a bit too much in fact. Having trouble keeping up with her desires lately if you know what i mean ;) 100/100

Love this scent. I sometimes have it listed as my signature scent, and wouldn't mind at all taking a brief swim in it sometimes. I just wish the duration and sillage were better. All of this smells great to me as it goes though dry down. Projection fades with the dry down, and unfortunately, it dries down pretty quick on me and the amber and wood smells are only on my skin. I am going to check out the EDP, Parfum, and Intense to see if one of them does "it" just a bit better. This is still a great fragrance and cheap enough to go frequent/heavy with.

A lovely scent. First time I smelled it, I fell in love. That was many years ago and I have had the same bottle ever since, currently at 30% full. I suspect I am beginning to outgrow this. It fades away after a few short hours. You smell really good and it projects a bit but it's not a stand out in performance. It is more of a "come close and lick my neck" fragrance than anything else and thats okay. I enjoy it a lot. I will probably not rebuy it but plan to finish my bottle and move on to some newer frags and to Polo Red Parfum.

it came as a tiny free sample with some colognes i ordered from ScentPilot a few months back. i remembered a hand me down bottle of my brother's polo sport that i occasionally wore back in high school and it was just kinda "meh" so, i had a very low expectation before spraying on polo red. i ended up being very impressed by this fragrance. an amazing gourmand scent with spice and fresh citrus blended together so beautifully. it gives Xerjoff type vibes

A solid sweet, spicy, sexy fragrance. Alot more fruity than the base notes would suggest however it does have a nice warm & spicy note that lingers on the dry-down. I didn't detect any coffee notes but I feel it is better off without it, I also picked up an almost vanilla-like note akin to Azzaro's most wanted EDT which was interesting considering I haven't seen anyone mention it. Overall I'd give polo red an 8/10.

please please please try this in the cold weather i used this yesterday, it's about 30° here in baltimore and i take the train to dc for work... i got an insane amount of compliments from men and women, then i get to work and literally got a compliment from everybody at work like, literally all night into me just getting off at 6am safe to say this is going to be my work fragrance at least until spring

This is a great fragrence for really any season other than summer, and maybe late spring. Works day and night, casually or otherwise. The cranberry gives a circus scent that is rather unique and pairs well with the warmer tones. The coffee note is there when first sprayed but really comes out at the end of the lifespan. Good classically masculine scent while still smelling modern.

This is a peak fragrance i don't have much experience in cologne's but my collection is starting to grow and so is my taste this is probably my second to third favorite in my collection the only little nitpick i have is for the first couple minutes before it dries down it smells like straight alcohol like rubbing alcohol but once it dries down it's actually a perfect 10/10

i love when my boyfriend wears this. it’s his every day cologne that he wears to work, and he gets so many compliments from clients and coworkers. it starts out spicy and and a bit fresh, then by the end of his work day when he comes home, he smells like spiced coffee. all-around great scent for the office, dates, and just casual every day wear.

Polo Red EDT. Smells great. I have gotten compliments wearing this one. My wife likes it, but she told me it's not sexy. I gave it to my son for his first fragrance. Now every time I put on something he ask me what Polo am I wearing. lol. Polo Red EDT summary: Projection: 8/10 Longevity: 6/10 Smell: 8/10

4.2 out of 5. Very sweet and spicy. Very cheap. Especially if you get the Polo gift set its only $80. Pros: Sweet and sexy. Also very spicy. Good for winter. Candy-esque smell. And a burst of citrus. Cons: Doesn’t last very long. Kind of chemically. Overall a good fragrance.

I think it's pretty good- I've gotten compliments on it as well (I'm in high school though) but this stuff DOES NOT LAST AT ALL. Like it becomes a skin scent almost immediately. I have to dab the actual oil on my skin to keep it for longer than half an hour.

a nice cranberry scent that instills good memories for me of highschool since id always wear this during my last years of schooling, good for casual wear, outings, and stays nice throughout its opening to end, 7.5/10 for me

I love it. It smells like walking around a sweet forest in the fall. I don't know how to describe it, but my girlfriend loves it. If you are looking for a not-too-sweet fall/winter cologne, get this. Safe blind buy.

Don't let the smell from the bottle/paper fool you! It gets a lot warmer and ambery when it's on skin, and the citrus becomes faint. Very good fall scent, however I prefer the EDP just a little more.

The problem is find with polo is their performance is terrible. They make fantastic scents but most of them don't perform. If they'd up the performance a bit I bet people would be happier.

Very rich, fresh and harmoniously fragrant. The lemon, grapefruit and cranberry stand out and they are enhanced by the lovely chorus of the other notes. A beautifully blended composition!

One of my favs scent profiles ever. But the performance is horrid. 3 hours, and it's gone. I haven't tried the EDP or the Parfum, so no idea if those are the same but better performance.

Lovely scent, it's perfect for clear, cool autumn mornings. It's like a cozy amber blanket... that disintegrates within 2 hours.

My partner wears this for date nights and I’m OBSESSED. It smells so sultry and sweet and I love sniffing it on him. Delicious!

Love the coffee and the wood notes in this one, its is well blended IMO. Would recommend in the winter the most.

The two could not be more different. Whereas the Green is a heavily woody cologne with a barnyard funk to it, this is fruit, refreshing and clean. It's a very nice blend of citrus and fruit aromas which are very strong on the opening that then lead to amber, wood, and powder aromas. Two notes that it is purported to have that are NOT present, however, are coffee and spice. I own Khamrah Qahwa and a Spicebomb Extreme clone, so I attest to what a cologne's coffee and spice notes should smell like and they are completely absent from Polo Red EDT. I strongly suspect a reformulation has happened. This is more of a fruit forward fragrance, the "Red" moniker clearly meant to point out the red grapefruit and red cranberry notes in the opening. This is a really pleasant cologne to wear in hot weather. There's no denying it's one of Polo's runaway hits given how many flankers it has. It's good for both older and younger users, totally unisex despite the obvious marketing to males, and is particularly great for warmer weather. My only knock against it is weak performance. This definitely requires overspraying and respraying throughout the day. Although I note the longevity is strong, I could smell it on my clothes the next day. Nobody can ever say that about the original Polo Green, so this certainly made me raise my eyebrows a bit. Perhaps the EDP and Extreme are better performers. Still, this is a pretty good cologne overall. I wouldn't reload on it after expending my bottle, though, and recommend trying the EDP or Extreme which I will do once I use this up.

I really like this, I can't speak for performance but think of a mixture of Jean Paul Gautier - Ultra Male (or Afnan 9pm) and Paco Rabanne Invictus if you put the two in a blender or layered them for the opening. The lemon and cranberry are what you get more than anything I'm sure the saffron and sage are in the background somewhere but the only thing I don't get is this deep, rich coffee like scent if it's there it's subtle to support the fragrance and the only reason I'm even aware of it is by the almighty note pyramid that as always should be taken with a grain of oud I mean... never mind. Is this the best polo? I still prefer green but I've worn that for almost 30 years so I may be a bit biased. However this is a close second to polo black as I haven't tried a lot of the others by Polo such as Earth, Ralphs Club or similar but either way I'm actually curious to try the others in the red line. This is not as loud as Afnan 9pm so this could be office safe, it's not as sweet as it either as some days 9pm can be far too sweet where I'd reach for something else, instead you've got a bit more complexity which I really like. Of the fragrances mentioned I'd get 9pm and the original invictus if you want performance. However this isn't some $300+ niche fragrance so over spray it if you have to or have a small bottle of it in your car, locker or gym bag to reapply as this does smell the best of all the fragrances mentioned in this review. This is mass appealing, easy to wear, this is for you if you're not after a mature fragrance, younger crowds to middle aged people, I'd wear this on cooler days, I can see myself wearing this day or night. It can work in an office, classroom or anywhere along those lines without annoying anyone as there's nothing to dislike about this. it could be someones first fragrance that doesn't come out of a tin of body spray, yet I can still appreciate this.

Polo Red is youthful fragrance by by Ralph Lauren, in first sniff it is quite out of character for RL, but soon it settles with elegant Ralph Lauren woody background, with an young and inviting scent plays on top. It might smell like something you have smelled before, but the beauty of it comes when you find the most perfect balance between freshness and spiciness, this is truly daring, energetic, seductive. It is Fiery RED, it is for someone who plays with danger. I will be straight to point about it's longevity, in my skin it last 4-6 hours mild projection, but after about 4-6 hours, it stays as amazing skin scent. So I will disagree with reviewer who said it lacks performance(at least on my skin). People will close to you will definitely make a comment. I can confidently dare a girl to dislike this cologne.. It can be perfect date fragrance and almost addictive . It may not be the project monster, but do you need a project monster and unwanted attention all the time? Perhaps sometimes you do need to be understated. Having said that, this is not a dull scent at all, rather Polo Red presents it's beauty in subtle and elegant way, and once people come closer to you, they can feel the daring and playful part of it. **Polo Red is better fragrance in every aspect than it's intense version in my opinion, apart from projection** Polo Red is unquestionably masculine and daring. PS: Is it only me who find something in common about Polo Red with a Red Ferrari? If a Ferrari ever can be a Chic Magnet, so does Polo Red. Until you get a Ferrari, get a Polo Red, and it will not disappoint you, guaranteed! Feel free to get a Ferrari to compliment this wonderful fragrance. BAAAM!!!

Because You’re Better Than Everyone Without an Umbrella I like, like Polo Red, but I don't love it. Polo Red is one of those scents that feels like it should remind you of something... but maybe not. I like wearing it on rainy, dreary days. It seems to team well with raindrops and gentle thunder, adding warmth to the melancholy of the day. Fragrantica calls it woody spicy. Sure. To me it’s mostly powdery amber with cranberry, a squeeze of citrus, and a coffee bean tossed in for warmth. Relax—you won’t smell like you spilled your morning Starbucks all over yourself. Longevity is good; a late-afternoon spritz will bring it back to life, if needed. Out of all the Polo lineup, this and Red Rush are the only two I would purchase, though I haven’t tried the Red Parfum version yet. The rest are just boring scents in different-colored bottles. Sad, really, considering the famous designer name on the label. Still, it’s different enough that you won’t smell like every other cologne zombie out there. I normally don't say this, but this would be much better if it didn't have the lemon or grapefruit notes. The cranberry is fantastic and I love how it gives this red-berry sweet-and-tartness to the opening. But that lemon just amps up the tartness to a ridiculous level, as well as the grapefruit. And on the dry-down, it's still mostly tart-dominant before silently fading out of this realm. Also I can't even detect a coffee note. Maybe I'm just too used to Polo Red Extreme, my darling citrus/coffee/woody fragrance that rips out all sourness and goes for a sharp, citric sweetness. I sprayed the back of my neck maybe 2-3 times and went out for walks on a couple warmer days recently, and less than an hour later I could barely even smell it wafting around me. I made sure to not spray anywhere underneath my nose like my upper-chest/ front-neck. I could barely even smell it on my wrist where I applied a couple sprays to test there. I understand how easy it is to become noseblind, especially when I end up overspraying, but other light/citric fragrances I have like Polo Ultra Blue will still have a bit of a scent-bubble when sprayed respectfully. I didn't break a sweat so I can only make the assumption this is just not a well-performing scent.

Opens aromatic and fresh, more green than red. Gets fresher and sweetens a little. After a bit it starts to get darker and then has an effervescent aroma that smells like cola. It's also a little nutty, and I'd be tempted to say that it smells like a cola nut, only I don't know what they smell like? There's then a brief hint of something marine like, before it becomes earthy. The fragrance takes a surprising turn after this as it sweetens again and a bright citrus note arrives. Finally the citrus turns into a clear orange aroma which goes on to slightly resemble chocolate-orange. The base has a woody musk alongside a good dose of vetiver. Suits guys ages 20 - 50. Better in spring and autumn. Day time. Peformance is adequate; moderate projection but lasting as a skin scent 6-8hrs (off the back of my arm.) It's not as generic as some would suggest. I actually think it's pretty unique for a designer scent. (Though I'm a sucker for scents that manage to retain a citrus note beyond the 1 hour mark.) Like all fragrances with a coffee note, I would advise trying it on your skin before purchasing, but I like it.

Very masculine and timeless smelling fragrance that smells different compared to what is being worn nowadays - opening is quite inconsistent for me though, sometimes it is synthetically sweet or just a flat citrus. However it quickly fades into a very nice woody and obvious masculine scent whilst retaining a subtle sweetness. Can't say much for performance, it doesn't leave much of a trail whatsoever (since it's an EDT). It performs at most 1-2 hours and becomes a skin scent for the next few. If you would like this sort of DNA then definitely consider the Parfum or EDP versions, they will build on this. You could wear it all year round, just not on very hot days (like many other fragrances). Nice in situations where you don't want to be the centre of attention but still smell clean and refined - a perfect dumb reach. I purchased mine from a discounter, yet you MIGHT find other fragrances similar to this with better performance AND maybe for even less. In my opinion I'd only buy this if it were on sale. Overall it is very safe to wear or even to blind buy. 6.7/10

I really like this fragrance but it has some issues that I just can't get over. First of all, this smells good, it has a sweet elegant cranberry smell that I personally just love. However, and this is a BIG however, it's SO weak that it's actually debilitating to the fragrance. I'll spray this on and in less than a minute it's already sitting close to the skin with 0 projection, it then starts to fade away almost instantly and by the 2~3 hour mark it's seemingly just gone. It's such ashame because this genuinely smells really good to me and I want it as a signature daily, but because it lasts so short and doesn't project it's just not worth spraying. For context, I usually spray 5 times, which is far more than enough for most fragrances but for Polo Red it's basically nothing. If it was stronger it would be an easy 9/10, sadly because it's so weak it's a 5/10 for me. I might try the EDP or other versions at a later date and see if they fix this issue, I'll update this review if I ever do get another Polo Red flanker.

This has actually aged incredible well, in an era currently where everything is a clone of Bvlgari tygar, Creed aventus, dior sauvage, dior homme intense, versace pour homme, acqua di gio, terre d'hermes and all that stuff that smells exactly the same sometimes you just gotta revisit the classics which were way better and more unique scents. Polo red has aged well, it smells different than everything else you get today and that's mostly due to the cranberry note in here you still don't get red fruit fragrances very often for men, actually quite hard to find i've looked heaps and tried every designer out there on the market today. Also most the darker fruity fragrances tend to get discontinued fairly quickly (example 1 million lucky), this one stuck around and lasted the test of time and for good reason, it's well balanced, masculine, girls love it, fairly versatile to wear anywhere and a true classic that established a lot of it's loyal fans who still come back to keep buying it after all these years

I acquired this cologne at a Sephora in middle school after spraying it in the air once. Upon actually wearing the perfume, I found that although the citrus top notes are initially there, they fade after about 30 minutes. Performance is generally an issue with this fragrance, but especially with the brighter notes, making the dry down a lot sweeter and spicier than I had anticipated. I found this dry down to be a tad mature for a middle schooler, and thus put it away. Seven years later, I now find myself wearing this fragrance quite often. As a university student, I feel it suits me better now than when I was 13. I don't mind the lower performance as I don't want to be invasive during class. I still find the citrus notes to be fleeting, but they do somewhat help to keep the scent from being too dark or heavy for day wear, in fact, the coffee note brings a special kind of spicy that is cozy on a foggy spring morning. The cranberry and amber bring a fruity sweetness as a bow on top.
