safe and unique at the same time. romance is a discontinued gem that i found in a little store a month ago for a great price. it's one of the best spring fragrances ever, for me romance is a true masterpiece. when i sniffed it for the first time i thought "ok, it's good, safe..", but i realized i couldnt stop smelling my wrist again and again. it's fresh-citrusy in the opening, but in the middle we have a great mix of geranuim, soft vetiver and oakmoss, saffron, rose..it's a superb blend, one of my favourite fresh-woody scents i ever come across. and also it's very masculine and safe, it has something from the 90's but you can wear it easily nowadays. the picture i have from this edt is a walk in the woods with a beautiful girl during a spring afternoon. it's pretty hard to find something similar, because it has something unique but not so daring. the only fragrance that gave me the same vibe is Acqua di Gio Essenza. they are not identical but play in the same league. Essenza has the acquatic notes more amplified, in Romance the woody notes are more prominent. feel free to disagree. performance is good in longevity and sillage, for formal and casual situation, daytime better. spring and summer are the best seasons for Romance. age group: 25 and up. so happy to have it in my collection! profumo fantastico, fresco, rinvigorente, romantico e bilanciato. scent-9 long-8 sillage-8 versatility-8,5 uniqueness-8,5 bottle-7 compliment factor- 7,5 my vote-9 in one word- romantic alternative- acqua di gio essenza Ps: i had Cosmair and luxury product version. How boring would the world be if everyone liked the same things? We all have different tastes. And we all like things that perhaps at face value might not be great, but are nevertheless dear to us because of our individual experiences. This is why your favorite artists as a teen always strike the same chord with you, no matter how old you are when you hear them. Perhaps that is true for me with this fragrance, but in my opinion, Ralph Lauren Romance is the perfect cologne. It's woody, spicy, and sweet. Delicate and nuanced. It was the first cologne I ever bought and nothing else has ever compared. When my friends were wearing Curve, Aqua di Gio, Abercrombie & Fitch, and the like, this was always my choice. I still have a bottle and wear it now on special occasions. Over the years I have bought several bottles (new, used, testers) and returned all of them. None smelled anything like the blend I bought in 2002, and I am convinced this scent will never be reproduced again. If you are lucky enough to have an original bottle, enjoy this rare treasure. ***Scents, like tastes, are subjective. Wear what you like***

One of the best fragrance I have ever smelled, it is a timeless unique fragrance nobody smells like this today . Sadly it is discontinued. I don’t understand why Ralph Lauren discontinued this scent. It works very well in the warm weather. The top notes are a little bit aggressive because of mixing between ginger and two citrus notes but the middle and base notes are amazing. Citrusy woody pistachio leaf oakmoss musk pine tree and flowers. When I opened my third 100ml bottle I decided to buy more so I went to a retail shop and I was chocked when I knew that it was discontinued so I decided to not use my last bottle in a daily basis and kept it for special occasions. In the beginning of this year I found out that people sell it in EBay but the prices are insanely high however I bought many bottles and I was lucky cause only one of them was ruined. I love this fragrance I am addicted to it I can’t stop smelling it. It is not for teenagers it is recommended if you are over 25 years old.

Romance has to be RL true masterpiece This is one of the most underrated gems! this fabulous gem never fails to get compliments. There are 2 versions , one produced by Cosmair and the other by Luxury products. I have both and the longevity with Cosmair version is excellent about 4-5hrs , with luxury products version LLC about 2-3hours max. the woody notes are magnificent in the dry down. trying to find a bottle is extremely hard as they are becoming more and more scarce. at some point it will be impossible to find. i was lucky to find a bottle on ebay for a good price . with so many memories this gem brings back, I just had to get another bottle back into my collection. to my surprise the first day i recieved it i put it on and got several compliments. Romance is definitely one of my all time favorites! If you can get it at a good price grab it

This is basically what got me started 20 years ago. I was in high school and the first day I wore it I got compliments from all the girls in my 1st hour. Then Jennifer, my crush that I was too shy to ask out walked in and the girls told her to smell me. She asked if she could, like a moron I actually said no. A couple minutes later the bell rings to start class and as she walks past me to go to her seat she stuffs her face into my neck and says that I smell great. I few hours later we saw each other in the hall and she did the same thing. I finally got the confidence to ask her out, we went out, and my journey into manhood began. Thanks Ralph Lauren Romance!

If I could bring back one fragrance in my lifetime, this would be it. I am still incredibly crushed & bitter over the discontinuation of this absolute masterpiece of a cologne...from a decade ago. I have searched for any cologne that could take its place ever since they yanked it from production but there is not one single cologne that will ever smell as ruggedly divine as this one. I just bought the DUA dupe, when it was restocked. It hasn't macerated yet...but that inital 3 sprays I unleashed were such an amazing, nostalgic thrill. Holy smokes, the things I'll want to do to my man, when it has developed into its full potential...GUH.

Fair play I like this scent. Its very light, a summer fragrance for sure but it lasted on me about 4-5hrs. One of those scents that are nice but I couldnt use a full 100ml bottle. I bought it in 2002. Sprayed some this year and its gone sour as it were - 9 years and unable to use it all. 10/10 - for shelf life in the bottle; but thats somewhat the point - it will last forever as its one of those smells that are nice but you just always seem to find an excuse to wear something else.

It was my new signature circa 1999 through 2000. For me, it was that delicious vetiver drydown that just worked magic. And its versatility - evening, office, date night....

one of my all time favorites. I have the empty bottle still. I have been unable to find a close match to it. If it came back, it would one of my signature scents. Very heroic, manly smell. Nice vetiver & musk base that finishes with a wonderful rose. Would always get compliments from the ladies while wearing this one

Fresh, calm, serene, comforting, elegant, caring (I know funny to describe a fragrance as carin but that is how it projects you to others and may be that's why the name ! ) I have used 2 x 100 ml of this (2001 and 2004) and would buy it again if I found it ! Wondering if it has been discontiued........)

I finished my bottle of this a few years back and all I can say is that this is one of my favorite fragrances ever. Was really bummed out when I found out that it was discontinued. I wish (but highly doubt) that they put it back on the market or at least release a modernized fragrance that has its DNA.

I have it, I love it, I use it.. I just bought a new bottle (I feel lucky to have found it) I will alway have a bottle of this.. This is like Oscar De Larente Pour Lui to me.. Classic, clean, last long time and easy on the nose.. It smells so good that the ladies want to lick me.. :-) 9-10 stars.

I first smelled this from one of those paper sample things from a magazine. I was sitting on the floor at the time, and STILL felt my knees go weak. It's been more than 20 years since I've smelled this but would love a re-release or something.

You can’t go wrong with a classic. Fresh, herbal, and full of character. On my skin, the pine comes through very strongly, but I don’t mind it at all. 9/10

Great fragrance. Ditto re the Dua "re-issue", it's super close to the original. If you like RfM, then try the Dua version

The correct year that this fragrance was launched is indicated on the older version which is on the back of the box... 2003 Ralph Lauren Fragrance's. Another simple way to know if you have the older version the box itself is silver...the current version is black. I was very fortunate to find a 100ml bottle, batch number 7A190 produced July of 04'. Why is this important? Almost every fragrance being produced, as every year goes by the Purfumery tries to tweak making slight changes. In my opinion, the FIRST batch is more true to what this juice is all about. About this fragrance, it's starts off with a well mixed blend of a citrus/herbal vib with a ginger/black current with a hint of orange. The green/floral notes of pine needles and lavender gives this juice a lively vib with a cool/calming aromatic scent. Longevity and Silage is excellent lasting about 6-8hrs overall. Personal thoughts, Ralph Lauren in more recent years produced more of a trendy frag's whereas in the earlier year's almost every fragrance established a real attractive unique aroma. This lost GEM is PERFECT throughout 3 warmer seasons ...what a shame, it's no longer available.. try it and check it out for yourself.. 8.5/10

I have a 100ml / 3.4 oz bottle from back in the day but the button has disappeared. I guess it could be transferred to an atomizer if any of you want it or maybe will trade a half-full bottle of another cologne that no longer is of interest. I don’t really where this, never have. I think I must have stolen this from a buddy to annoy him as a joke back in college. You can still get the juice out of the bottle by depressing the thing and holding it upside down and letting a few drops hit your fingers, and dab it on from there. This really reminds me of Tommy which I like. Hmmm maybe I will start wearing it...

1st time i got this as small vail via magazine... i was shock! it really nice scent, very seducing(for me). i love it immediately, after so long...i still love it. from i love the bottle, simple,classic and clean...just like the scent, immediately fall in love. i will going to buy in this time. must really have the perfume i am falling in love.

On paper it smell's really good! It reminds me a lot of spring! I can smell the orange, roses and specially the pine note. On my skin tho the pine note becomes really strong...

Bought another today ! 18 bottles in 5 yrs! Todays price 100ml 65 euros! I guess quality never comes cheap, but this one worth every penny! SIMPLY THE BEST !

i dont know how to describe the notes of this cologne,all i can say is that works very well,and to be honest,the more you spray better this can get.

This scent is just for summers(30-35c) it will for sure last 7hrs plus...i'm getting this longevity every single time but strictly summers

first note is like lime/citrus mix with flowery scent. and then lime stays for some time. quite pricey for such type of smell

Got a 100ml from a small shop locally. I was excited to grab a discontinued scent but, in my opinion, I can see why it was discontinued. It opens very green and sharp. Smells a bit 90s in that way. It settles into a sweetish, airy, somewhat generic (for the early 00s) green woody scent. Totally inoffensive and mass appealing. Longevity was really poor for me. After an hour it's a skin scent. After 4-5 hours it's mostly gone. Very much what I'd call an office scent. A 6.5/10 for me. I've worn it probably 7 times and there is a window (about 20 minutes after I apply) of about two hours where I've gotten compliments ("oh you smell nice" type of compliment). But I've had people smell me after 5 hours and they could barely detect anything. All this said, it's a scent many women would find appealing on some level and it could be a star warm weather date night scent.

This is damned hard to find. Which is a good thing because it means it survives the curse of reformulation. I have the aftershave splash-on which is slightly different. This is a signature scent, a toned down Polo Green, and thats what i look about it. Its a nostalgic throwback to when times were good. I love the complimentary women's version too. @Andrewanto below knows where its at.

I'm getting better at this game: Five minutes after spraying this on myself I guessed that it would be an unmemorable, generic woodsy/spicy scent. And so it is. Reviewer Luca Turin says it best, however: "The fragrance is so unmemorable that the only appropriate review is, 'It has a smell.'" It doesn't have much longevity or sillage - so after some hours pass by you can spray on something you like a lot better that will dominate. (I find that Yatagan is my go to champion for this.) I "disliked" it, but that doesn't tell the whole story. I neither liked it nor disliked it. I will simply forget about it. So not only is there no Romance here - there isn't any love, either. I don't do well with these Ralph Laurens... the only one I like is Polo Green - and I think I'm mildly allergic to it.

Caliking got my balloon for hitting the nail on the head. I was so excited about trying Romance. Look at that fantastic composition! Blackcurrants, yes! Celery, lily, ginseng, rose, PLEASE! OAKMOSS, PINE, PATCHOULI! nup... Citrus >-( To my nose, you cannot make a good fragrance with 2 citruses and ginger in the top. It just bollocksed it up for me. Ooh, the drydown, nice but I cant reeally smell it anymore. Its a faint softness on my hand. So sad

I think this is the strongest cologne on the planet. This is my dad's special occasion cologne, and he swears he only uses one squirt but it is SO strong. If he hugs me with it on I can smell it on me hours later. I wish he wasn't so insistent on using it up or I'd buy him something new just so this one can go in the trash. Thank god it's discontinued!

Romance is a scent strictly for night occasion. Using this before in the morning got me all dizzy. Its fragrance is just too heavy for my liking.

I wasn't a fan of this one so I gave it away. It just wasn't for me. It didn't suit me, no matter how hard I tried to embrace it.

I bought this along with Silver Romance and some others back in the day, absolutely love and still have Silver Romance....This just smells terrible....I have seen where some have said that sometimes with this scent if it doesn't smell good it could be you got a bottle from a bad batch. So maybe that is the case? Romance smells horrible, rancid....I understand why they discontinued this one, from my experience it smells terrible. Ralph Lauren Silver Romance however, is incredible and it's a shame they discontinued it, Romance Silver gets a lot of compliments, but the original Romance is terrible.

Romance for Men by Ralph Lauren, is not unlike the feminine Romance with its subtle soapiness and understated elegance. However, Luca Turin downs this fragrance, describing it as a 'fresh nothing', rating it with one star. I agree that it's not the most amazing scent out there, there is a lot that could be expected from reading the scent pyramid prior to testing, but in all honesty, it's a very pleasant and wearable fragrance which I happen to like. The scent is mostly clean and spicy, particularly throughout the opening, where I didn't manage to detect any fruit or citrus accords. There's the tiniest hint of lavender, which is smoothed out with ginger and creamy soap nuances. The heart is mostly lily and nuts, perhaps a little too floral and feminine at times. It actually reminds me of Emporio Armani White for Men. This fragrance is perhaps more woody though, with a slight hint of greeness. The base is quite a likable, yet subtle, musky pine and vetiver blend. The drydown was the most masculine aspect of this fragrance in my opinion. I can't say that I find this fragrance unisex, but I will class it as a light masculine floral. Perhaps for some, Romance for Men is mediocre and bland. I didn't mind the scent, I found it quite comforting and clean, which is something I need to smell on a man sometimes. All in all, it's a fragrance worth trying, even if it's just to see whether you love it or hate it.

One of my absolute all time favorite fragrances. Just something about it. Citrus, woodsy, spicy, fresh. Not overpowering, not super long-lasting, but a compliment getter and very versatile. Love the black currant in it as well. Good for most seasons, although not for very cold weather in my opinion. Romance silver checks all the cold weather boxes quite well which i also love. Perfect for date night, perfect for the office. Perfect for when you want well-executed finesse and approachability. Brings back so many great memories. Extremely hard to find a legitimate bottle of this that is not astronomical. I bought one a couple weeks back that was clearly fake when i sprayed it on. I returned it and found a full, brand new tester for 90. It was authentic and i could not be happier. I thought i was either going to pay 200 or more for this, or just never have it in my collection again. This is a treasure to me, one i will own as long as i can find a bottle, even it it gets expensive. I could go on and on. The embodiment of a classic late 90s fragrance, but one well executed and timeless. Love or hate Ralph Lauren's line but his fragrances are timeless and the entire body of work has something for everyone, minus the big pony collection. I hate those damned things.

I rarely wear scents like this so keep that in mind. It reminds me of New West for Men but with the harshness toned down considerably. I can wear this one, unlike New West, but I don't find it particularly interesting. I'd rather wear Pino Silvestre, vintage Tsar, or Green Jeans, for example. However, this is certainly a good "office scent" for warmer weather, if that's what you're seeking. It's technically competent and reasonably natural smelling, with some obvious "fresh" aroma chemicals that are used in moderation, for example. The notes sound great but I only detect a small number of these clearly. This may not be an aficionado scent but for those seeking one with mild but clear pine, this is worth considering.

I wanted to try this fragrance also intrigued by its name, maybe I was expecting something different ... like you could represent romance perhaps more velvety notes of vanilla and musk but Romance is not all that, at first sight seems somewhat grumpy and surly, the opening is rough and pine is already present with massive doses but slowly fades and gives way to hints of aromatic herbs and the bottom is a woody aromatic almost inaudible (at least on my wrist) that mean? a discreet fragrance that seems made for a company without jerks or extravagance, outdoors seems to take strength and persistence, but it is an honest fragrance without a lot of claims that can brighten our days midseason.

I've just used the last of the vintage bottle I've had. This fragrance has been a pleasure to use over the years. Another late 90s release that shone, I loved what Ralph Lauren were doing back then. A simple, but nice bottle, time may have degraded the quality, but a very bright opening, definite fruit notes, definite light citrus, in the dry down a mix of wood notes and Vetiver, the pine is there but fleeting. Such a different composition, clean, masculine, and no whiff of bubblegum. The ladies range is still going strong, and it's a good fragrance, this however was excellent, Ralph Lauren please bring it back.

I was 16 when this came out and at the time it was the greatest cologne I ever smelled. It seemed like nobody was really wearing it. It was a beast while not being offensive. I’ve never smelled anything like it. I don’t understand why it was discontinued. This could have been a staple for Ralph Lauren for decades. It was that good. It should be considered a masterpiece in the fragrance world. I really like all the 90s stuff like Nautica, Claiborne Sport, Tommy, ADG, Lucky You, etc but this cleared them all.
