Kiss My Name

KISS MY NAME from Ramon Monegal’s Classics Collection is THE MOST amazing floral fragrance. It’s the closest bottled reproduction to a Mediterranean evening garden, amidst salaciously aroused flowers, lustfully flirting with the birds and the bees in an attempt to be pollinated. ‘Kiss My Name’ is lavish floral opulence. She’s the resplendent Queen of Florals amongst wilting peasants. She’s the modernised successor to the floral throne of Guerlain’s ‘Jardins de Bagatelle’. She has much more almighty grandeur and presence. She’s a great beauty, revered by all those whom smell her majesty. The jasmine, tuberose, orange blossom and neroli combo is swoon-worthy. The musk, cedarwood and amberwood act to ground these often flamboyant floral notes from over-performing. I’m always a fan of the use of coconut as a lactose-free way of amalgamating notes with a subtly sweet smoothness, without any need for creamy (vulgar) vanilla. The dry-down becomes more powdery and spicy like a Stargazer lily in full bloom. It’s fresh but without being green. It’s undoubtedly feminine. Ramon Monegal’s training began in 1972 in Barcelona, then Geneva, Grasse and Paris. ‘Kiss My Name’ was his first ever fragrance, created under the instruction of his strict mentor. His multiple attempts were chastised by his disapproving fragrance master. Now he’s a refined fragrance virtuoso, he’s created perfection. I can’t help but assume that the title for ‘Kiss My Name’ is a pun, aimed as a two-fingers-up to his disapproving mentor, not only to invite him to kiss his now triumphant brand-name, but to also kiss his arse. Monegal himself describes ‘Kiss My Name’ as: “My indulgence. My revenge. At the beginning of my training, the first classic accord I had to learn and replicate, without much luck, was the legendary floral tuberose with jasmine and orange blossom. I’ve now been able to regain that satisfying experience and to interpret the myth, reformulate the accord fragrance with my learned language.” The bottle is beautiful, it comes in the standard 50ml size Eau De Parfum in his unique inkwell (l’encrier) design. For Monegal, the inkwell style bottle is, “an iconic perfume recipient, an object of desire, a single bottle that houses all the soul and essence of my work.” Being an inkwell represents that literature (along with nature) is his main source of inspiration, turning words into fragrance notes. I only wish that the cap had a magnetic closure. ‘Kiss My Name’ has shot straight to my favourites list. My search for a vanilla-free pure floral, might just be over. For now, there is no other better performing, naturalistic floral. ‘Kiss My Name’ is an, “Exuberant, opulent and seductive. Gorgeous perfume that I like it a lot, but it also reminds me of two perfumes I already own. In particular, it has the same tuberose note that is in Nasomatto's Narcotic Venus and Nishane's Tuberoza. Unfortunately, it also shares the synthetic chemical note that is in Tuberoza, (whether Iso, ambroxan, or something else, I have no idea), though not to the degree that it is in Tuberoza. Still, this is different enough, especially when the other notes of jasmine, neroli, and iris become apparent, that it has me considering a fb. Like those fragrances, it also performs wonderfully with amazing silage/throw and longevity. 6/24/22 - Wore this again and it has taken a big turn towards love. The warm weather is really pulling out the iris and tulu balsam in the dry down giving this a powdery, ambery light sweetness that I am just loving. The lightly indolic jasmine is just beautiful too with the neroli giving a much-needed lift to the composition keeping it from being too dense or heavy. Still, this is far from a light fragrance and wears more like a vintage of the past than most perfumes made today. As far as comparisons to NV or Tuberoza, I still think it smells similar, but there are many more transitions here as they wear pretty linear on me. I am now considering a bottle, though I wish this brand offered travel sprayers as an option because this is so strong with so little needed, I doubt I'd even make a dent in a travel sprayer. Edit 9/20/22 - Just want to reiterate again how strong this is. 4 sprays almost killed me last night and I had to wash some off. This fragrance is an edp but wears like an extrait, so be aware of that. Less is definitely more with this perfume.

This is my second wearing of Kiss My Name as I review this simply stunning fragrance. And this second adornment is surprisingly more beautiful than the first. In this case, this is best with one light, diffusive spray. Any more than one light-handed misting and especially in warmer weather, I get a somewhat heavy and linear tuberose soliflore. However, tonight the cool air seems to bring out the brilliance of this stunning perfume. On opening, fresh, ample tuberose with a slight metallic greenness; balmy glints of sparkling joy, accented with enigmatic citrus-like orange blossom nectar. Jasmine is not overly discernible to the nose, although its sensuality along with aphrodisiacal tuberose is unmistakably present. Ramon Monegal's website states that the iris is cedar infused which lends to the lift and slightly woody feel in Kiss My Name. The tolu is subtle and somehow enhances the fruity, nectar-like accents of this floral beauty with a soft balmy grace, and is barely enough to classify this into the Oriental category. Kiss My Name is beautifully charming, full and natural with remarkable quality, sillage and longevity. This is buxom tuberose in the most joyous form.

I love anything jasmine. This was a blind buy for me. I was looking for something a bit more lowkey because all my friends were raving about Diptyque Do Son. I purchased the discovery set and fell in love with Flamenco, Cherry musk and Heritage drops. However, I wanted to save them for when I go to Barcelona and visit the store. This is my second blind buy (first was Florabotanica by Balenciaga) and I am ecstatic. I loveeeee all the notes!!! I mentioned to a friend that Flamenco is the passionate and energetic friend you have, and Kiss My Name is the subtle, calm and elegant girl everyone had to notice when she entered the room ^_^ I tend to favor white flowers, especially jasmine so my opinion might be biased. And I am very happy with the packaging, too. I will definitely buy some more when I go to the flagship store in Barcelona. This perfume house is not so popular among my friend circle, that's why I love it!

My Darling Sister purchased this for me for Christmas. She got me the sample first.. the smell filled the entire room. That small vial was so powerful and I knew that I had to have this!!!! I couldn't wait til Christmas to open it!!! Then came the day I waited for Dec 25th. Im surprised this perfume is not banned.. it is Fabulous Wonderful Enticing Beautiful Charismatic Enchanting and Bewitching. It's hard to wear anything else but this. I'm so glad I found out I'm part Spanish.. I feel such a CONNECTION to this fragrance. RAMON MONEGAL, This is PERFECTION. It stays with me all day. I didn't even mention the packaging yet. Oh my goodness. It's so beautiful. I feel like a Spanish Queen who just received a magnificent gift of the gods!!!!!!I have other Tuberose Perfumes and I love them too but this is the Pinnacle!!!!!! OmG I can't believe I own this Masterpiece. Thank you Sweet Paula!!!!!!!!!
