Water Wood

Ive tried both the original and the new limited edition. New: Still beautiful, but the original was better. Much more realistic and aquatic. The grass notes are very much diminished and the palo santo has nearly fully replaced the dreamy, rare aquatic sandalwood. The lotus and driftwood are likewise much more subdued. This extrait version lasts an absolute eternity on clothing and leather. Extremely high quality and high content of naturals. Truly, probably the best I've ever used in terms of quality! Very lovely, leaning slightly masculine. But I will always be pining for the original formula. This is like a different creation altogether. Still, highly, highly recommend it if you can find an elusive bottle! Original: Beautiful. Just beautiful. Somehow this actually manages to smell like water and wood. I get quite a lot of Driftwood and the scent you get near a fast-moving freshwater stream: green grasses, Sweet Grass and sweet woodruff, something vaguely fruity like wild plumwood, and aquatic notes from the waterlily. I am absolutely kicking myself for parting with my sample. I should have bought a whole bottle.

This is a truly remarkable woody perfume. For the first 20 minutes or so it smelled distinctly like a log that had fallen and landed in a river. It left me wondering how in the world they managed to make the perfume smell so wet without any trace of that aquatic melon note found in so many perfumes. It's not mossy or mildewy or muddy, it's crystal clear running water. I also smelled what seemed like strong peppermint, and then I remembered that is the way raw palo santo, my favorite wood, smells. The whole middle phase really smelled of linear and pure palo santo. The drydown smelled more like mahogony, some kind of dark wood. This perfume lasted +12 hours on my skin easily, no problem. Purchased a bottle--absolutely love it!

To me this is like walking through a natural supplements & body products shop, through the section with little jars of lotions & handmade soaps. I get a cooling note, minty or eucalyptus-like, something soothing, calm, & slightly soap like (lotus?), & a smooth, creamy, powder dusted sandalwood like nag champa. It's lovey, different, & very natural feeling. Very soothing, I figure they were going for the feel of watching a log float down a river rather than the actual smell of water & wood. Try 1st unless you already love RdF's style. Has a peaceful indie vibe, but also smells of great quality. While I imagine this being hard to dislike, I suspect it also takes a more indie-leaning taste to really love it. As I've found with many natural smelling niches, it only lasts about 2hrs on me with decent projection, then it becomes a skin scent. Or at least, I can't smell its wafts anymore after that.

An artless cavalcade. There’s mint, musky notes of some kind, cedar (with all the bitterness you’d expect), and a handful of florals. Together, it smells like your skin after you’ve sampled too many scents and they’ve bled into one another. Waterwood is basically five separate ideas all competing to accomplish one task. While I do give them points for attempting to synchronize dissonant notes, this should return to the planning stage for a while and perhaps take a new direction. Both the bottle and the perfume appear to have been made during "craft hour," and both are an absolute mess.
