Guanabo

Guanabo is a sea monster Guanabo is an island in cuba, so this perfume evokes the deep sea and the coastal sea at once, plus the exotic cuban fruits that grow in the island. Opening: One of the strongest openings ever (2 sprays on sides of the neck one on back) the only perfume that has made me cough once, but i got used to it, spray on open areas, after 3 minutes you are good to go. Citruses plus passionfruit combo, invigorating and delicius, a pontent tsunami mixed with an explision of pure hapiness. (first hour) (hour 2-6) Drydown, the opening settles a lot and gets the salt and seaweed accord, gets darker blue like the deep blue sea, projects 1-2 meters hour 7-12 just a bit of salt and seaweed, saying good bye then 0, gone, gone, gone....a life well lived at full intensity, thats Guanabo Tilt: Unique Citrus, fruity Aquatic Smell: Unique White flowers, citrus, fruits and marine notes. Power: To be feared, 4 sprays stun everything lol, in a fun way longevity: 12 hours on skin, on clothes days (on you hair more than 24 hours)

I haven't had much time with this perfume yet but it's absolutely monstrous! Opens with a tangy passionfruit accentuated by lemon, the heart phase is lead by lily-of-the-valley as it transitions to jasmine all the while supporting a room filling marine accord; you might as well have released the dams holding back a tidal wave of coastal notes. A wonderful new release, one to consider if you're tired of the typical sunscreen tropical fare, haven't smelt anything like this yet!

I have enjoyed other creations from Miguel Matos. Unfortunately, this one doesn't work for me. I agree with @TheChi below. Not that it is bad or challenging at all. I just don't enjoy it. I am normally not a fan of citrus fragrances. They just don't bring comfort to me. Yet some turn great during the drydown. I was hoping the same for this. I do enjoy marine fragrances (Seahorse and Squid) so I thought this would get better over time. All I get after the opening is watered down lemonade while getting a faint hint of ocean spray. So a lemonade stand about 5 miles inland. Not for me at all. On the flip side, my wife seems to like it.

The only one from what I've tried that caused some positive emotions for not being boring. Interesting development and doesn't turn fishy with algae/marine accord being still quite prominent under all the fruits and white florals. Revisiting in spring to see how it behaves.

All I smell is fishy calone that somehow persists through the entire fragrance and is the only thing I can smell in the dry down 12 hours later. The middle hours of this fragrance are the best parts; tropical feminine-leaning florals and fruits plus salty notes from "seaweed". Overall not a huge fan.

Bitter, astringent, herbal opening of bergamot, petitgrain, and lemon. Followed by an immediate brackish sea smell. Then, passionfruit and white florals, still dominated by brackish, slimy, bacteria-laden, sea vomit. I hate this type of perfume. Not quite as bad as others in the genre. It's still gross though.

Miguel Matos isn't my perfumer I guess, I haven't really enjoyed any of his creations so far.. anyways, the opening is fizzy bergamot and, I assume, petitgrain. I've never smelled petitgrain on its own but it smells like tearing a leaf off a tree and crushing it in your hands:) Underneath that bitter green I get white florals and seaweed, with unmistakable salty marine vibes as well. The fragrance becomes a little creamier as it dries down, but doesn't really change overall. the lasting power is outstanding. That said, I can't get away from the detergent association - it's like smelling dry laundry detergent straight from the carton. It's remarkably similar.

Congratulations Miguel! This is such an elevated composition, a journey that gets so far away from Megamare & Co, in the most sophisticated fragrant profile! An instant love for me, I knew I had to have it, as soon as I got in the Fragranza shop in Prague! I think this is a must have for those that enjoy artistic perfumery that doesn't scream "I'm difficult to wear". I put it in the same realm as Piment Brulant by L'Artisan Parfumeur, green, fresh, deep, unusual, crunchy, with a lot of personality.

Really wanted to love this one given that I'm such a big fan of Miguel's written contributions to this site. However, this just doesn't work for me. The florals in the mid are overdone and lean too feminine, weirdly it wasn't the jasmine that bothered me which is usually the case, but the pervasive Lily-of-the-valley. I'd be curious to smell this on the sun kissed skin of an attractive woman, but for me personally this is a no-go.
