Jontue

Jontue, just like the rest of the bunch of the era (Charlie, Cerissa, Ciara, etc) smells like a million bucks, lasts and radiates like a powerhouse and has the quality of vintage Haute Parfumerie at drugstore cost. Those ethereal 70’s to early 80’s green florals were the best in their category. They ate! Review for the 70’s version edt. Jontue is just mesmerizing! From the slightly green and powdery opening, to the deeper herbal shade that follows along the rich white florals, to the mossy and slightly skanky drydown, it never seizes to amaze me! For department store counter level, you had Chloé, Anais Anais, Fidji, Estee, Infini, Calandre. But for drugstore prices sans drugstore quality you had Jontue among others. Times when quality was abundant and price wasn’t a measure. Quality blending; from the soft shade of galbanum, to the more rich pine and cypress, all the way to a true to life gardenia and tuberose. Oakmoss and musk galore. A touch of civet. Creamy Mysore sandalwood and soft hued woody notes that smell like a forest. Slightly spicy but never over the top. A powdery, mossy, animalic persistence that clings to skin like a lovers embrace. This is strong. Aldehydes and powdery notes to lift it. Not particularly citrusy or fresh, but more ethereal and persistent. Hazy shades of purple and pink and green amidst a brownish background. This particular category is one of my favorites, after heavy, pissy, filthy animalics. While the era gave us many many wonderful scents, Jontue is the one I would keep if I only had to pick one. Well, Jontue and Chloé. And probably Estee. And Anais...sorry, can’t pick just one! Same ballpark as the rest but not redundant. Each showcased different notes, aspects, mood. For vintage lovers, it’s imposible to pick one! "Jontue: a beautiful fragrance, but not too far from innocence," went the 1977 commercial which I just watched again on YouTube. :D The commercial seems silly and doesn't really make sense -- interspersing images of a young woman in a field with a white horse near castle ruins, with images of a dark young man manning a sailboat -- but the perfume is absolutely lovely! While I've been an inveterate perfume user and collector since the late 1970's, I don't remember having a bottle of Jontue, and I can't imagine why because it's great! Jontue is a field of oakmossy wildflowers with a dry herbaceous/aromatic aspect. It starts out with a strong, smoky, oakmoss note and greenness or grassiness, along with a bitter sharpness of (maybe?) the cypress and sage that is a bit reminiscent of Elizabeth Arden's Blue Grass (1936). It smells much more expensive than it is (I paid around $12!) and, as a mossy floral, reminds me a lot of classic Chanel (Chanel No. 19 or 22?) or Estee Lauder perfumes, sharing their well-blended elegance. An earlier reviewer mentioned that she detects a similarity to Charlie (1973) and I do, too, but it's underneath the top notes. In the same way that many Guerlain scents have that Guerlainade "je ne sais quoi" underneath the differing top and mid notes, Charlie and Jontue maybe share a characteristic Revlon base. My fears about the typical poor longevity of inexpensive perfume turned out to be completely unfounded in the case of Jontue. It stayed on my skin for hours, and was beautiful from start to finish. Jontue is one of my new favorites. If you're a lover of classic Chanel or Estee Lauder oakmoss florals, you should give Jontue a try.

Jontue came from a time when the income gap wasn't so cavernous, and the affordable and sensible spray and go fragrance purchased from the local drugstore could co-exist with the more luxuriant perfumes and the miasma of cigarette smoke and car exhaust. It could be placed in one's pocketbook along with a roll of Certs and applied as a pick-me-up from the drudgery of the day. Revlon's Jontue was the budget escape to an enchanted garden, fields of chamomile, gardenia bushes, and mimosa trees in bloom, somehow all at once, defying their natural inclinations. Not to mention a warm sandalwood mingling with oakmoss and vetiver in its base. It is a simple, sensual pleasure, a welcome diversion from heavy complexity and the tired arguments of what is quality perfume. Quality to whom? To someone in Soho in 2023? To a country club in the Hamptons? To the zombies of late-stage Capitalism? A quality experience is a personal principle. Trash and treasures are all on a level playing field to the expansive universe, so why not let go of pretense and see if something simple and delightful is liberating? Jontue's hazy floral glow, earthy, mossy embrace is liberating. Also, I recall being drawn to that jaunty script that spells out "Jontue'' on the boxes and bottles as a child and thinking, "fancy". That in itself is a warm, fuzzy memory.

I worked in a hospital when this perfume came out in 1976. My patients, most of whom were very ill and some nauseous, complimented me on the way I smelled (we really weren't even supposed to be wearing any fragrance, but I smoke cigarettes - I didn't want them to smell that!). Today I received the first bottle of Jontue I've had since the early 1980s. I purchased it from Amazon Prime for under $10 with free shipping. When I first sprayed just a slight amount on myself, I was appalled! I didn't recall it being so pungent - it took only fifteen minutes or so for the "stale" smell to go away and for the full fragrance of Jontue to come forth. It's a beautiful, feminine floral with a hint of patchouli in the under tones, something I'd nearly forgotten until today. If I can't afford what I really love most (see profile) this will be my everyday fragrance from here on (unless I find my old bottle of patchouli somewhere around here).

I don’t know why I slept on this. I really resonate with this gauzy, mossy, springtime sundress floral. It is quite light, but lasts an impressively long time. The current version I have features a whisper of that modern oak moss substitute accord that, while certainly not the real thing, lends a certain forest-like velvet that really sets this apart from other feathery, dreamy floral based scents. I definitely get mostly florals wrapped in gauze: gardenia, and chamomile made extra golden with mimosa. It’s like walking in a May field full of swaying grass and wildflowers—-it reminds me of Eowyn from Lord of the Rings, smiling coyly at Faramir when the war has ended and the shadows have lifted. I get excited when good things are accessible, and this is downright ethereal if you’ve ever been the sort of person who reads fantasy novels in the shade of an oak tree on a sunny day.

Someone in my life wore this when I was a very little girl. I was instantly transported back to a very hazy scent memory from my childhood when I sprayed this. It was a time of avocado green kitchen appliances, wood paneled walls and burnt orange shag carpeting, swag lamp in the living room. I want to say it was one of my grandmothers who wore it, as it was a very nice, very comforting and safe feeling that I had when that memory surfaced. I love this one for that reason, but even if I didn't have that memory come to light I would like it. It's a scent profile from decades ago, far removed from the gourmand, candy sweet scents of today. Earthy, natural, green and aromatic. I wear this one just for me, and I smile when I sniff my wrist. I love and miss you, Grandma.

The white flowers are in your face at first spray, with the oakmoss playing second. I find vintage frags can be way too oakmoss heavy, but that's not the case here. Jontue has a perfect balance of white and yellow flowers on center stage, with delicious chamomile playing a supporting role, and the stately oakmoss standing in the wings. I remember girls wearing this in high school, and xoxcrista is right; Giorgio of Beverly Hills was worn by the loud, popular girls, but Jontue was worn by the girls who weren't uber popular and quite content to live in their small clique of friends. I'm curious to try to reformulated version both to see how much it's changed and because the vintage bottles with the aerosol sprays are leaky and messy. 8/10.

Jontue is a lovely floral, green confection of a scent and quite more complex than most 'mass market' fragrances. It was sold in parfum contentration in the 1970's and 80's but is sadly now discontinued in parfum form. A sweet flowery symphony of French florals including mimosa. hyacinth and rose, violet and jasmine opens the fragrance which morphs into a rich sandalwood base and ir=s just beautiful! This Revlon scent is unappreciated and deserves a revisit by women who wore it as teens, as its complexity is far more worthy of consideration in a floral green than some top designers'efforts and at a reasonable price too! Just got it today. My aunt wore this in the early 80's and it was smooth and divine. This one l got is clearly reformulated. Harsher and quite masculine in today's standards. A reviewer wrote "a man could totally rock this nowadays." This prompted me to order a bottle. It is very true. As a man, l like it a lot. I just wished it has more longevity and sillage. But l am happy l got one. It is unique for me to wear. Most men's colognes today are light, sweet, aquatic which are even wearable by women. This one will definitely stand out among the modern ones. A spring in a bottle. A true classic from Revlon in league with Chanel #19 and Guerlain Apres L'Ondee. Great find!

Vintage review... Parfum, eau de toilette and eau de cologne. This is basically a 70's sweet, fruity (peach) floral (orange blossom)with mossy, musk base. The description on here makes it sound like Aromatics Elixir or Miss Balmain. This is more related to Quartz, Bill Blass, Candid, Giorgio, Creation and Chloe (the original one). I get herbs, peaches, citrus, white flowers (mostly orange blossom and jasmine) and a mossy sandalwood base with a touch of musk. This is actually a really beautiful scent. Idk what the new stuff smells like.

I bought the original round splash bottle off of eBay, and was pleasantly surprised. It's always unassuming perfumes like this that I end up liking instead of the goofy samples I think I'm going to like from LuckyScent. It's a perfectly-tempered and natural floral. It really does smell almost like Halston, except it's a little softer/floral and it doesn't have quite the same sparkliness as Halston. I love chamomile, and while I don't pick it out, I'm sure it contributes to why I enjoy Jontue.

Well, I've been reading the reviews about Jontue and ordered it blindly Yesterday I received it and I mult say, it's a wonderful fresh and green scent I wasn't that lucky to find it as a teen, but now after discovering so manyniche scents and also owning them, I am swept off my feet by Jontue I'm waiting for spring to wear it but at home I am transported in the best moments of my childhood and high-school times, by smelling my wrist A masterpiece and am glad to be able to buy backups

A delightful, complex fragrance that is affordable and easily available (in the U.S.). I get a lot of the cypress in the opening on my skin. Lively, short-lived opening that is just fascinating. Then so many pretty flowers--tuberose, mimosa, gardenia. I don't get much rose from this, mostly a weak tuberose. The vetiver is just the right amount, and there are enough elements to keep me interested. I LOVED the ad campaigns for Jontue. It's very light, spray away!

Oh... this was my very first perfume in my teens. My friend always said, it was smelling like mandarine (not sure about that). I just bought it again, for nostalgic reasons. It ́s not the same bottle any more and they also reformulated it a little bit, but not in a bad way - and I ́m so glad, I still like and wear it. It starts fruity to me, then chypre, and after some hours it ́s so beautyfully smooth and still a little fresh, yet feminine.

Sweet orange blossom, mimosa, ylang and jasmine surrounded by herbs, an era specific mintiness, oakmoss, vetiver and sandalwood. The musk is soft and skin-like. I smell zero patchouli. I have new and vintage. This new one is faithful to the old one. Imagine a big white floral like Fracas or Jungle Gardenia with the herbs, moss and green notes of Y, Quartz or Aliage. Jontue is a very distinctive scent.

This is great fragrance to wear in the comfort of your own home. I own the current formulation and I have no complaints. But I can see how it could turn people off in public. I’m glad I found a green floral for such an amazing price. I’m such a fan of perfumes from the past and Jontue doesn’t disappoint. I don’t mind smelling different from others

I just received my vintage JONTU pure perfume from cisco.I am overwhealmed!THe scent of this wonder defies time! All the lovely flowers kissed by oranges and juicy ripe peaches is too good to imagine!THe vanilla sandlewood ddry down still has touches of the magical flowers.SWeet and creamy, milky.To sum it up,it smells like romance.!

So Eden wasn't the first! This is Eden's more reserved grandmother, more stately and refined to Eden's shock of the innovated new (but like I said not new at all.) I would put this with Cabotine also though this is more boozy than Eden, the tropical fruits more ripened.Whereas Cabotine is Eden's cousin, a lot more bookish and green.

Jontue always reminded me of minty peaches and orange blossoms surrounded by herbs with a very mossy sandalwood drydown. Like a 70s shampoo scent. I don't get much patchouli or vetiver. Nothing else smells like this. Chloe 1975 and Creation are closest to this but Jontue has that minty herbalness that's unique.

Unless I could dig up older memories from my mental archive, I think this was my first cologne -- I was or 8 or 9 then. I couldn't remember exactly how it smells but I do remember that I loved how it smelled and enjoyed spritzing it on. Good times.
