Pub

This review is for Royal Pub (1973). There was an eccentric seventy-something year-old gentleman who surfaced on the Youtube "fragosphere" a few years ago, coiffed with a curly mullet, having a rather surly temperament at times. He would recall the golden 70s and 80s, when there were "real fragrances for real men." You know the score. He referred to them as "potions." I consider Revlon's Royal Pub as one such "potion"—the bottle even has a gold medallion, for chrissakes. It smells so stinkin' GOOD. I will spare the gushing and just get to it: as a flanker of the original Revlon Pub, it has the same powder-velvet heliotrope and heap of nitro-musks, but it also has this massive leather accord, I mean that aromatic, soft "Spanish leather" type, light on the birch tar, heavy on the petting, with a wee driblet of IBQ for good measure. The result is a culmination of all that is manly—bridging the well-mannered with the misbehaved (just look up the ad for its launch...well now).

It's widely available in South Africa, often sold as a gift pack at Xmas time consisting of the deo spray & a dab on cologne. My dad likes it and always has. It's definitely for babyboomers. I have wrestled with this fragrance for years, thinking it's pretty repugnant. It's taken me about five years - twisting the cap off the bottle and sniffing- to finally "see" this fragrance. Initially all I detected was musk. A sweet, weak musk you'd smell in a musk toothpaste or chewing gum. But I have discovered the floral notes and a brandy like undertone to it. I no longer find it repugnant. Best suited to a babyboomer in my opinion. It's very different to any other men's musk scent. It fascinates me now, especially after wearing for over 60 minutes.

One of the oldest, best, sexy, most masculine scents on earth in my mind. Simply love the fragrance. Nothing else, but the fragrance. Manly, almost beastly, in every sense of the word! With respect to Revlon, it is not even in the remotely expensive range here, and the longevity tells the sad tale of disappointment. If it had better quality and longevity, I would not hesitate to buy it only to embrace its masculinity. I had to give this credit as I almost grew up with my father and other family members using this. It carved deep memories in my olfactory memory bank. I won't buy it again, but the smell alone is absolutely fantastic! By the way, What’s up with the picture in the display?

I have never heard of this fragrance before, but stumbled upon it whilst looking for the Charlie fragrances in the Revlon section. I just find it hysterically funny that a smell was marketed to men under the name 'Pub' because in the UK, a pub is just a working class bar and anyone who has ever worked in one, knows exactly how gross they smell when it comes to clearing down and opening up. I'd love to know what this smells like because the name just conjures up stale beer and cigarette smoke for me...lol.

I loved this perfume and I remember its fragance, it is unforgettable. I would like to buy it so much..
