Afropolis

Interesting. A herbal green that has the right touch of mint and gin. The mid has an ethereal quality. The tone of this fragrance is optimistic. It's winter now, this isn't a winter scent but I like to keep a house freshie handy. There's nothing cheap about this fragrance. It does expose some other designer level frags as being scratchy. The mint is cologne like instead of gum or candy like. More of a tea mint. However to the idiot nose "smells like gum". A recently brought Prada Paradigme, a sweet green with a clever nutty dry down. If I could combine the best of these two green spectrum fragrances it would be something. The dry down on Afropolis is somewhat powdery/ musky with low projection. That's the part of this fragrance where I get the unisex designation. A more masculine fragrance needs more presence in the dry down.

Amazing composition, the gin and juniper berries in the opening are very crisp, a good clash, then the dry down is a little woodsy and aromatic.(cant stop sniffing my wrist) This reminds me of bleu de chanel and Match race but the longevity is far more superior. Its quite generic or maybe a "mall" fragrance to some people who has sniffed other highend frags.. but this is worth a try. my favorite from the line..

There is some note that has been haunting me for a long time but I can’t put my finger on it. Initially, I thought it was anise. I have smelled it in several scents but there’s not one note that I can pinpoint it down to. But, I’ve smelled the same in notes with mainly florals or that has tonka bean in it. Other times, I’ve thought it might be saffron. Here, I’m just not sure, it’s something like anise that begins to dominate the other notes in this. I’m thinking it’s the iris or white wood - or maybe their combination. At the opening, Afropolis is very nice and seemed promising. It’s a ‘dry’ sort of feel, with the gin and juniper berries. The mint and citruses sort of reside at the apex of the opening. I can smell the rudiments of something that’s going to come later that I don’t like, though. After time, what I am only guessing as the iris just ruins this for me and trumps every other note. The sea notes and oakmoss are there, but are overtaken by the iris and wood. The base consists of a sort of velvety musk and vetiver, mostly. I’m glad I didn’t blind buy this one. Some may like this, however. I was able to find a sample on ebay.
