Tocadilly

Brought this out of my perfume closet bins to my dresser stand with my weekly scents. NYC mid August is still hot and my aquatics are getting a lot of use. Sprayed on heavily after a bath and am settling into bed. First thing I notice is that unlike so many fruity aquatic florals I loved as a teenager in the 90’s- this hasn’t warped/spoiled/lost notes. Quite impressive considering how much money I’ve wasted chasing now rancid faves like Fleur d’Interdit etc. Tocadilly has this coconut woody thing that holds the watery floral top notes together similar to Guerlain Purple Fantasy, another gem that I’ve yet to find a turned bottle of. I get the lilac & hyacinth blast- then it settles into the cozy base. It’s a quiet scent but so beautiful. Can still be found quite cheap. Highly recommend if you’re fed up with tacky screechy modern releases.

Really quite a strange fragrance. The splash version opens with a massive blast of synthetic cucumber that is almost headache inducing. If you can live through it, you get a fragrance of fresher than fresh laundry detergent. The spray seems quite different - much more lilac here, very beautiful. It's extremely clean-smelling - a good scent for medical appointments, etc, and practically screams 'white linen dress'. I detested the top notes from my mini versionsbut it really grew on me and I finally indulged in full bottle only to find that it behaves rather differently (and rather better). Sheldrake signed Eau Serge Lutens and I think that is Tocadilly reworked - where Tocadilly is warm white, ESL is bright white and much longer lasting. The drydown smells like lemon sherbert .

I didn't like this when I first tried it in the 90's- I already had Tocade which had been my signature scent for awhile and I found this one too light and green. I recently purchased it on Amazon as it has become very rare and it was being sold off at a very cheap price- Im glad I gave it another go ! Something in it reminds me of Tocade but it is definitely different, a soft springlike milky floral-the main notes I can detect are hyacinth flowers,lilac and coconut but neither is overpowering the other. I am not a fan of cucumber or green scents,but this is so subtle it works really well. I should imagine that in warmer weather the longevity & sillage will increase on this one as when I breathe on my wrist,the scent intensifies quite a lot.

Upgraded my rating from like to love. Green yet there's a vanilla-esque creamy aspect in the mid notes. I agree about it becoming more musky and woody as it dries down. This is a quirky offering from Rochas but I find it fantastic after owning for a while. I love it in winter, it's tender and green and soft like cool linens. Why is sandalwood missing from the notes above?

LOVE! LOVE! LOVE at first sight with this one. I bought it from my first salary and I am so sad I cannot find it any more apart from online shops! It is fresh, young and femminine, it soothes me and lifts my mood! One of my few big favourites together with Samsara, Champs-Elysees, Deci-Dela and Kenzo Ca sent beau! Divine!

This is me....I love the slightly tart but subtle green, fresh, warm, powdery scent that it is on my skin. It lasts all day - can never overdo this one, at least on me. It's not too "prissy" but it's just a pleasant, subtle but long-lasting warm, green scent.

Gorgeous fresh light breezy Tocadilly! Perfect for a light and warm summer's day, with a little soft breeze, and flowers and all natural things surrounding you. It's a delightful, darling sweetheart of a perfume.

It is a beautiful sunny, breezy 73 degree day here and I definitely made the perfect fragrance choice!! Today Tocadilly is giving off a clean laundry vibe!! Lovely!!

While I do find this scent curious, I feel like the bewilderment some people have expressed here is exaggerated. We all feel and perceive fragrances differently of course, but I can't wrap my head around d this being considered as abominable and unfathomable as some put. In a way it can be considered ordinary even. Perhaps the shock is from the fact that a familiar, but hard to place scent was 'chosen' to be turned into a perfume? The initial spray is indeed quite fumey. Do you remember those striped barrel sterbrook black permanent markers? Yep, that! This disipates within 15 seconds or so and I actually get a serious warmth after this. I remember someone somewhere describing this as a 'cool' and 'icy' fragrance, as in, you could perceive a temperature drop from the olfactive hints alone, so that turn in the opposite direction surprised me much. I think what I get is cinnamon actually. Weird. Perhaps because of the oldness of the juice? Tocadilly actually endured my entire 7 hour work shift and 1 hour commute. It stays close to you. I placed it in my chest, right below where my chin touches if I bow down my head. I sprayed it on my shirt, not skin. I would get wafts of it continuously, effortlessly. Some people say it does not feel 90s and I have to disagree. I conceeded similitudes between this, CK Escape, Chloe Narcisse and Chapeau Bleu. Reminiscences here and there that is, I'm not listing dupes, calm down. The cucumber was there for a bit, after the cinnamony phase. It was a very yassified cucumber. A bit dollar store makeup wipe-akin. I did my makeup about 40 minutes after putting this on and I also felt a similarity with one of the products I used, the e.l.f salycilic acid putty primer... The lilac was present all throughout but I feel like it never quite got to shine. The marker overpowered it, the spice overpowered it, and the faux cucumber overpowered it. It is a powdery lilac, slightly mothbally, but sweet in a cadied violet bubblegum way? I think it was Canel's that had a gorgeous shade of purple flavor that claimed to be violets and tasted like straight up cough syrup.. I feel like there's chamomile too and a "docteurs auffice accord"... The bottle is a disjointed little effigy and I feel like it matches the juice. A disjointed, abstract interpretation of a makeup wipe. Tocadilly, contrary to the juvenile intent is one you have to really chew to swallow. I don't hate it. I don't love it. But I think I like it. We'll see what I can say with more wearings.

[225] Tocadilly is an undeniably strange scent. A deceptively simple aquatic scent, it bears no resemblance to its predecessor, Tocade, but then it is not technically a flanker. In the vein of Grès Cabochard and Cabotine, this is supposed to be the "younger sister" of the original, but ironically, the sweet floriental that is Tocade reads as a younger scent to me. Tocadilly appeals to my personal taste more, but neither are full-bottle worthy for me, despite being objectively nicely crafted perfumes - I'm not a big fan of either sweet florientals or aquatic scents. I have a vintage miniature from the 1990s. Tocadilly opens with a strange aquatic accord resembling strong cucumber - green but not entirely pleasant. As it settles, it improves. Barely-there, juicy, fruity notes emerge, giving soft sweetness, bolstered by a fresh aquatic accord. As the florals creep in, led by polleny lilac, I really get the similarity to Frédéric Malle En Passant. But it takes a starkly different turn in due course. Hyacinth ups the ante as it emerges, being much more corporeal than the aquatic lilac accord. It is waxy and lush, forming a white floral accord along with the clean jasmine note and what remains of the lilac. The addition of coconut is unexpected, even jarring - a bold move on M. Sheldrake's part. I'm not entirely convinced that it works, but it is interesting and unpredictable, adding a slightly lactonic sweetness. It gives a lighter and more tropical sweetness than that of a more obvious note like vanilla, and along with the aquatic accord that remains in the background, is evocative of the seaside. As it dries down, Tocadilly becomes a little mossy and woody, fading to a musky, still aquatic yet slightly sweet skin scent. Sillage is fairly intimate, and longevity is moderate. Fresh, slightly sweet and feminine, Tocadilly is a subtle aquatic floral scent, light and easy to wear in the spring/summertime. It is also much more interesting and complex than it appears on the surface, even experimental at times. Not for everyone, but noteworthy. Worth a sniff. 3/5.

This one is such a nice little treasure! It's adorably fresh due to the cucumber note but not really aquatic nor detergent-like, the LOVELY essential lilac adds some freshness and a hint of sweetness, but not too much, and the coconut is not sweet at all, just gives it some densiness. It's light, happy and youthful but not silly - a perfect perfume for a young lady. It seems to me a bit like Acqua di Gio for women save the ocean and sweet pea notes. In the beginning it may seem a bit harsh, at this stage it smells exactly like a bar of lilac soap, but give it some time and it will grow nicely on your skin - ergo, it's a good quality perfume, too. And it sticks, leaving faint but BEAUTIFUL drydown notes on your skin even a day or two after. I'm so happy that I've found it, I was eager to, as I couldn't forget this cute circus-bohemian colourful package that had cought my attention back in the days you could find it in stores. This smells like soap. Now! Bear with the rest of the review. This is the creamiest, most luxurious, foamy bar of soap you can possibly imagine. It wraps you up in feeling of utter cleanliness. And as the saying goes, cleanliness i next to godliness. This scent is pure, white, clean, but warm and intense. It has great longevity on my skin, maybe because this is "my" type of fragrance. The lilac here is fresh and dewy, intoxicating, like falling in love in May. The coconut is creamy, not in the slightest foody, wrapping up the lilac in it's exotic embrace. I can barely smell cucumber but I bet it's the note that gives it the slightly aquatic feel, the freshness of green, spring grass. Jasmine is also detectable, the more as time progresses giving it the sweetness. I'm not surprised with the reviews that say it could come across as synthetic. I personally am fine with laundry detergents, I love the scent of fabric softener, of freshly washed laundry being dried in the sun. There's enough depth to it to make sure this is not a soulless creation. For those, who appreciate clean musks, it could be the best floral out there.

THIS IS TO BE WORN OUTSIDE!!!I just received this in the mail and my first impression was that the scent had turned. But, willing to give this an honest try, I sprayed several sprays into my room and sprayed a couple of sprays on my wrist. I then went outside to get my son who was witg my husband that was cutting grass. The next thing I knew, I was wondering what the pretty smell was wafting on the breeze. We have a plethora of flowering trees in my neighborhood and I thought it was a jasmine or magnolia tree, but it was me!!! Outside is where this floral freshie shines! Literally take this for a walk, you may be pleasantly surprised. It’s not my favorite, but it is interesting enough for me to reach for. Will update as the summer progresses.💜

I recently purchased a mini of this based on a friend's recommendation. I was asking about nice spring summer fragrances for warm weather to come. This was one she suggested. When I got it I thought hmmmm it smells like those scented facial tissues from many years ago before everything was made unscented. Not mind blowing but pleasant. Soft calming and nice. It develops on the skin into something really pretty and with some complexity, more than you'd imagine. I don't get cucumber out of this so much as maybe a little green note and soft flowers like lilacs. This would be the perfect answer for wearing to a function or on a hot day when big bold perfume types would be too oppressing to wear. Fresh, clean and pretty.

Never smelled cucumber in a fragrance before with florals, though it is only at the beginning of the scent before becoming a light, watery floral. A strange combination, that seems more aquatic to me than ozonic. The florals of hyacinth, lilac, and jasmine are there, but just so light it was hard to make out. While projection is minimal, I was able to smell it softly off me, but since it is so unobtrusive it might be good to wear when you need to be low key. It does lasts for a long time as a skin scent, though honestly, since I'm not even sure how I feel about this yet as it is so strange, I don't know if that is good or bad. I'll have to give it some more wears before I make a final determination on that.

Picture this fantasy scenario: The 1960s television comedy, "The Patty Duke Show." The serious cousin, Cathy, wears the demurely pretty Tocade, while the sassy cousin, Patty, bops around the house in frothy, flirty Tocadilly. Two of a kind? Check. Yet somehow completely different? Check. Both scents equally appealing? Check and check!

This is fresh and lovely green floral, with lilac leading the way. I don't get great longevity out of Tocadilly (maybe 3 hours), but it is not a niche or high-end perfume. I only detect a hint of coconut. The bottle is very cute, sort of sixties retro. I think it's a great value 'fume, which for me was a successful blind buy.

I wanted this bottle because of its appearance mostly, i love the cute and colorful bottle. Also the atomiser is very good. The fragrance is a sweet summer fragrance, but it is different than the generic fruity perfumes that are made recent years. It smells very much like lilac with a bit of coconut.

Wow, this is a good, optimistic and cheerful fragrance that will lift your mood at the moment. Coconut is very genuine in this composition, it's not ordinary like body milk for sunbathing. No sweetness, it's more bitter, excellent mix of unusual flavors & well balanced sweetness. I loved it.

what a nice perfume. i cant find another word to describe it but happy and vivid. floral, moderately sweet with coconut and cucumber. tocade and tocadilly are two siblings, both great perfumes - almost edible turkish delight like.

Initial impressions are pretty good, considering I'm having difficulty smelling much of anything. My bottle arrived on a scorching hot day, and past experience has taught me to give fragrances received in the heat of the summer a rest for at least a week so it can settle down and come together. Additionally, the nozzle on my sprayer is a bit wonky and not functioning properly, so I'm not getting a proper experience. I did unscrew the top and splash some on which helped me pick out the lilac note, and it's a very soft and somewhat woodsy lilac. Very nice. I'll update after she has time to settle. EDIT - Nice, but not for me. PM if you want to swap.

Tocadilly is another perfume I used in my teenage years that I was willing to resample. As other fresh fragrances from the late 90s, it opens with a weird and unpleasant smell similar to rubber tree sap that fades as the perfume dries down. After that, a very fickle but pretty scent of lilacs and hyacinth, which lasts quite a while. The late dry-down is quite jasminy and fresh but somehow manages to be a bit powdery. It's a likable perfume for hot weather, very bright and office-friendly, as the projection is limited. I'd give it a higher score if it didn't have that hideous opening. 6/10

This is one of the strangest, most unsettling, wolf-in-sheep’s-clothing type fragrances I have ever tried. Hard to imagine where you can go wrong with lilac, jasmine, cucumber and coconut. Nothing challenging or strange in it and I have gone through periods of full-on obsession with each of these notes. Yet somehow this ends up being such a strange oily skin smell, or the smell of someone else’s house and the unfamiliar food odours there. I can’t recall ever having been so surprised and bewildered by a scent. The confusion makes me want to try it again because surely I’m missing something here, but my aversion to this keeps it firmly sealed in the reject box in the furthest corner of my cobweb-ridden dirt-pit basement. I’m sure it’s perfectly happy in that dark cool place so I don’t feel too bad. So as not to be misunderstood: I’m not saying it’s a bad scent—just that it’s the most unsettling to me because I expected something so drastically different when looking at the notes. There are other scents I disliked more, but which didn’t cause the same feeling of confusion.

Too synthetic at the opening, very chemical. Later while it lasts it becomes more nicer with a green-citrus-fresh note. Doesn ́t last long on my skin. In my opinion has nothing to do with the "Tocade" which i really love but not bad at all. Simply not my taste. The colours of the bottle and packaging give me already a feeling that there is something too synthetic inside and it is indeed acid like. Very strange combination of coconut and cucumber. oh well... Please do not remove this comment, since others might find it useful. Not every review should be positive, so people like me wanted to make a blind buy might find it very informative. Thanks.

I made a big mistake when I bought this perfume. Can't detect neither hiacynth nor cucumber. Too my nose it's all about coconut and jasmine: too dense, too sweet, too powdery, and too heady.

This does not smell like ANY of these notes at all. I get bitter marigold, oakmoss, maybe galbanum and some indistinct florals and musk. Very herbal. Odd.

So disappointed. I may have gotten a bad bottle, but wow this smelled like old-lady perfume. Just horrendous

When I first tried Tocadilly, it was winter. I got a lot of cucumber and something artificial I couldn't put my finger on. Needless to say, I didn't like it much. Next time in spring I wasn't luckier, did have kind of a same experience. But Tocadilly still seemed to keep my interest. I didn't want to give up. Today, in early summer, everything was different. A warm day but not hot. I don't know if that was the disparity. Or was it me, hormones etc. Or just my nose. Never going to know. But what I know is that this time the perfume was totally different... ummm, I mean Tocadillly different. Today the perfume is about sweet lilacs with white flowers playing a minor role. I don't get any cucumber or strange artificial flavors. It is just a beautiful, powdery, very feminine - and honest - juice. It doesn't develop much, it is more like a linear spring-blooming single flower show, as the color, light violet, suggests. What delights me is the high quality of this perfume. It is really stylish with a romantic touch. A bit different. Sillage is remarkable, but because Tocadilly doesn't shout it doesn't make a statement. It rather talks with a sweet, uplifting tone - but definitely catch the attention. And after long hours (8-10) it is still going strong. So no complaints this time :)

This is the only cucumber note that agrees with me. I nabbed a vintage bottle and luckily the juice still smells fresh. Rochas makes such great perfumes, I don’t think I’ve ever gone wrong with this house. This actually also smells super close to Frederick Malle En Passant which was a pleasant surprise for me. The bottle is much cuter and more affordable for me. Longevity is average, like four hours. I got a ton of compliments when I went outside wearing this. It doesn’t smell 90s or vintage, it’s just a really fun, sparkling cucumber and hyacinth. Perfect for summer.

This is so much softer than what I imagined looking at the notes. I am somehow reminded of Gucci Guilty and Kenzo Amour. Guilty because it has the almost-lilac flower scent. Amour because it is soft and creamy and similar to baby oil, but Tocadilly is not as similar as Amour is, and that is promising. I don't get very much cucumber. I'd actually say that the coconut is the most prominent note. It's not a strong coconut. Creamy, maybe like coconut milk and heavily saturated with laundry musk. It's good though

Mas bien parece algun combustible oreado sobre un tazon de popurri, fuertisimo! Nada de campos de lilas despues de una lluvia, creo que es el perfume que usaba una amiga de mi abuela, muy molesto un olor penetrante dulce y sin ninguna faceta olfativa. Me siento estafada, no vale lo que pague de ninguna manera :( QUE HORROR¡¡¡

Quirky garden freshness, that goes backward in time through the day. Starts at afternoon in the garden with loud cucumber and pear and sunny lilac, then gets wet and green with hyacinth, in a slow rewind to morning dew on the grass, until it slides back under the covers with comfy creamy-but-powdery woods on the skin. A bit off-beat and rather nice.

Contrary to the lack of rose and vanilla in the official notes, this is definitely the daughter of Tocade. Yes, the top notes are fresher, but not fruity or juvenile. The rose vanilla (particularly the vanilla) drydown that so defines Tocade is still there, but lighter. A very nice scent.

I got this one as a gift. I'm not sure I dislike Lilac or Hyacinth in it, possibly Lilac? I like Coconut and Jasmine. It became too strong (for me) while wearing it in tropical weather, especially a hot day. It was very pleasant for cold weather, as I got a nice compliment one time.

This is one of those scent treats with a lot of pedigree and much bang for the buck. Nosed by Sheldrake? I'll take it. Quirky little sister bottle to Tocade by Serge Mansau? Adorable. A scent that works in warm weather? You betcha, baby. As always, YMMV.

Ufff I would say, NEVER buy this one, smells so bad that you will have to shower again

i want this, makes me feel happy and shiny, a lovely green fragrance by Rochas.
