Gardenia

This perfume surprised me . I bought a sample set from Rojas website and this one was the one I was least thrilled to try. I was thinking it would be granny like and stuffy. However, it’s not that at all. It is a very classic , feminine, 90s vibe perfume. Nothing complex but very pretty. I sprayed it and didn’t really care for it for the first 5-10 minutes but then it developed into a beautiful scent that seems to get better with wear. It’s a true floral perfume and stays on the skin for quite a while considering it’s a light airy floral fragrance. I get about 6 hours of wear before it needs to be topped off again which is fine with me. The perfume seems to stay close to the skin and doesn’t project much but people can smell it when close but not close like sniffing your neck close. It has decent projection. I have also noticed that sometimes when I think that this has worn off but then others can still smell it. I definitely think this will be a full bottle purchase for me very soon. Right now I am saving up to buy Rojas 51, Enigma Aoud and Elixer but after that will be Gardenia. Roja perfumes are all beautiful you just have to appreciate classy perfumes that some might find to be slightly dated but I find classy .

It's an agonisingly expensive, very femme white floral with overtones of the classiest soap in the universe, petals from a stratospherically-priced bouquet and a world of 5* comfort which is light years away from mine. Does conjure a sense impression of gardenia without actually being made of gardenias - none of the rounded waxiness, it's rather creamier and more low-key than the real thing - yet weirdly, it's even more beautiful. AI gardenia? Couldn't afford it in several lifetimes, especially after I already broke the bank on Puredistance Opardu for this ultra-upscale-pure-petal fantasy territory. Still wildly impressive even to a hardcore Roja sceptic like myself (I own none - the house's gilded-bling aesthetic and credit-card-limit-smashing prices rule it right out); like Amber Aoud, it is awesomely assured and perceptibly brilliant, even if it's so self-consciously exclusive it practically yells "NOT FOR YOU, PEASANT!" at my nose. If money's no object: have at it, flower fans - you're unlikely to feel any pain. In this bubble of luxe there is not a thorn or a tinge of dirt to be found (the servants have already tidied away anything that might hurt you, of course.)

I adore this. First time ever trying Roja Dove. It is just so clean and rich and feminine and gorgeous. I quite like it in winter, believe it or not. It's the perfume also, not the extract. Very long lasting, all day. Smells of rich women dressed to the nines. It kinda does transport me to happy era. Give it a try if you can. I've been searching for a Gardenia for quite some time. I won't say the others I have tried, all have their + and - .......However this one is blended so fine, and I get a few florals here, but I know it's the heliotrope that is pulling me in. I adore heliotrope, it is my DNA. I don't know anything about this house, but so far, I love it!

I have to admit that this is my favourite perfume just now, it reminds me of vintage floral perfumes and is too divine for words.. It is a delight to wear and lasts and lasts.. Unlike the other reviewer who says it has a cheap chemical odour, well I don't get that.. Yes the perfumes can be pricey but as they say you get what you pay for.. I am off on holiday to Paris in a few months and invested in a bottle of Gardenia by Roja, I thought how lovely to wear a perfume in Paris that wasn't produced there... Just for a change.. So try and get hold of a few samples from Roja and give them a try before dismissing them on the price...

Easily the most authentic gardenia recreation out there but it doesnt come cheap. The reviewers that complain about there not being outright gardenia in the notes dont realize that gardenia itself does not produce much usable fragrance. From the website: "A fresh and romantic flower, the scent of Gardenia is a mainstay in Floral perfumery and yet it gives off so little scented oil that it is rarely - if ever - used in a fragrance." Roja talks about this and how the challenge of this perfume is to recreate the smell of gardenia with other flowers. The composition is deeply complex gardenia and white flowers, beautiful.

Gardenia by Roja Parfums is the perfect gardenia and white floral fragrance. I love it when my wife wears this perfume. It has a captivating floral aroma that is both romantic and alluring. It's like being surrounded by a beautiful garden in full bloom. It is a must try for white floral fragrance lovers. In the dry down it has this gorgeous soapy scent which I can't get enough of. I believe this fragrance is absolutely enchanting. It has a delicate floral scent that is both elegant and refreshing. I highly recommend it. I give it 9/10.

I have a 7.5 travel size of this perfume. It lasts around 9 hours with a medium intensity. The first 6 hours at a medium intensity and then we have a few more hours on the skin. Floral delicacy, that is the concept of this perfume, highly recommended for lovers of floral perfumes. The main part of this perfume is undoubtedly the floral beauty of the gardenia, it is the backbone of this perfume. At the exit we find a fresher gardenia, thanks to the frescoes of bergamot or orange blossom, and as about 45 minutes pass, those fresh tones lower the intensity and we are finding a bouquet of flowers, where the gardenia continues to predominate but the light floral hues of heliotrope, mimosa, violet, pink ... are all hues that play around the gardenia. That set, added to the moderate intensity, make this perfume feminine, beautiful, delicate, elegant ... all a floral beauty. Unisex? Everything in the niche perfumery we call it unisex, but in my opinion it is an impressive feminine perfume. rare? It is not a perfume that has rarities, that has complicated aromas. the biggest recommendation that can be made for this perfume is that you have to like floral compositions.

I don't agree this smells like an authentic gardenia, it doesn't have that initial mentholated burst and dewiness true gardenia has. Roja's gardenia smells more "yellow". It smells too sweet, too thick and clearly mixed with other florals (well, gardenia is always made by and with other florals, but there are creations which smell more or less real). There is mimosa very well felt. The closest example similar to this I can think of is Isabey's Gardenia, because of ylang-ylang there which adds that sweetness, but Isabey is superior, more elegant, more like a true gardenia and more universal, wearable all year long. If you want even more authentic gardenia, try Kai or Petales by Chantecaille. It's a lovely perfume, if you like your florals sweeter.

I was met by a SA at Bergdorf's right as I walked in the door and was immediately sold on the Gardenia Extrait when it was first sprayed, I had the bottle shipped to my home from the store. I wish that I had waited because this fragrance does not last on me at all, It opens with a powerful white floral that is beautiful but within minutes it fades so much that it is hard to smell even close to the skin and then within an hour is gone. It is beautiful but if I had it to do over again I would not buy this one, I do love the Aoud, I may have saved up for a bottle of that instead. For me, it is just too pricey for a simple white floral that doesn't last that long.

Roja Gardenia. I concur with the reviews that this smells like a fresh, clean floral soap. Its the wealthy auntie thats impeccably neat, clean and fresh. She never looks disheveled, always put together. I almost get a caliche vibe/idea from it and thats about as blue blood as you can get. Get the horses on a spring day, were riding out into the English countryside.

I have tried many Roja Fragrances and none have really been FBW for me. This is the only one that I'm considering buying which is very surprising as I don't usually gravitate toward floral scents. This is very feminine and elegant. If I finish my travel size I'll definitely consider a bottle. 😍

I actually don’t have this (EXTRAIT) I have The Gardenia eau de parfum Is it not a part of this frag database? EDIT: with regard to The EAU, WOW. There is a trick to wearing this, and I am layering it with Oudh of Heaven. YUM! AMAZEBALLS!! Signature!!!

opens very very sharp and abrasive, becomes something soft and beautiful but faint. this scent is undoubtedly roja, i've never smelled such uniformity from another perfumer or house.

It's very fragrant, luxurious and beautiful . The smell of jasmine is dominant . Be sure to try it .

TLDR: this doesn’t smell like gardenia and it’s very overpriced. First impression on the opening was kind of off putting. Then it opened up to something beautiful, not gardenia, but beautiful for sure. This is a jasmine sambac scentric frag with notes the help push it in a gardenia direction, but not definitely not gardenia. To me, this resembles Pikake, which is a lighter, not so dark jasmine, not gardenia. It lacks a creamy sunny feel of gardenias, and it always had that jasmine boldness to it. This isn’t gardenia. There are other less expensive frags out there that actually smell like gardenias. Jesus I really want to like Roja dove but every frag I’ve bought and sampled are all pretty mid, and way too expensive. Don’t get me wrong, he’s a great perfumer and uses great quality materials, but his fragrances are uninspired, and I don’t have 1000s of dollars to find “the one” from his extensive library of perfumes.

Not pleasant for me. I have 2 issues with this perfume: First, I’m realizing I don’t like the particular heliotrope Roja uses. Any of his perfumes that I have tried that contain heliotrope smell like bitter powder. It takes over/ruins the perfume. I have smelled actual heliotrope flowers. They’re sweet and delightful, like powdery vanilla-almond. I love heliotrope in lots of other fragrances. Here it causes the fragrance to become stale and stuffy. I have the same issue with Amore Mio and Brittania. My second issue is that I don’t notice even a hint of gardenia. I grew up with gardenia bushes on my front lawn. I know what the natural flower smells like. In perfumery it’s very hard to find the scent, especially these days now that so many ingredients have been banned. Even Chanel can’t get it right. This Gardenia smells like a bouquet of flowers that are not gardenia. Then there’s that bitter powder with a teency hint of sour/unpleasant peach, and a weird lurking green note. The scent brings to mind a wedding full of very wealthy people that takes place on a warm summer evening in a humid greenhouse. The scent is just too powdery; not crisp or bright enough. Reminds me of leftover perfume on a cashmere sweater that has been sitting in a closet for months and probably should have been dry-cleaned. For a more realistic gardenia soliflore I would recommend Le Wild by Chantecaille or even Kate Spade’s Live Colorfully. And this is the last perfume I purchase from Roja that contains heliotrope.

I have long anticipated the opportunity to test Roja Dove Gardenia Extrait. The house is legendary among niche lovers, the fragrances prohibitively expensive for most folks and the intrigue hard to resist. I found a 2ml sample on ebay. A very rich soap was my immediate impression. Yes indeed it smells expensive and old school. There is not much evolution, however from soap to...floral soap. It reminds me of Houbigant's bright star, Quelques Fleurs l'Original. And then I began to sneeze. And sneeze, and sneeze and sneeze. I am dreadfully allergic to this and it would have been worth suffering if I could have just gotten one whiff of gardenia from it, but no. Just a disagreeable generic floral soap in anyone's bathroom anywhere. What a letdown and now I'm sure put off from trying any other fragrances from this house. Roja Dove has some nerve trying to pass this off as gardenia. It is no such thing.

Roja Dove has produced another stunning, high quality and well blended delicate floral scent that showcases a white bouquet and leans towards the softness of a jasmine luxury soap. The perfume is built around a trio of white flowers; Orange Blossom, Jasmine and Mimosa and apparently took 2 years to make. If you have the dough to spare on adding a Roja to your collection, then this is highly recommended. Note that you’re getting a gorgeous white floral bouquet, rather than a gardenia replica. If it’s way over your price range, don’t worry; just check out some other perfumes!

Roja Dove`s perfumes is the nicest present the world of perfumery could make to me. It`s the discovery of the year!! After his fantastic Neroli Extrait I tried Gardenia. The funny thing is that it doesn`t actually have gardenia notes, but yes, it smells gardenia, too :-) Very noble white floral scent, deep, rich, expensive, voluptuous. In the same time it has some fresh breath coded inside, so it is powerful but not heady. A masterpiece. The lasting power is spectacular. I must try all of his beautiful creations next time. Thumbs up!

Very beautiful at first. After about an hour it fades to a very cheap chemical odor recalling dime store perfumes. At no time does it ever smell like a gardenia. Certainly not worth $320!-at least not to me. Perhaps if it just stayed beautiful a little longer and wasn't called gardenia, because it isn't.

Gardenia by Roja is a powdery, soapy "vintagey" white floral in the same vein as Quelques Fleurs by Houbigant. I don't discern a realistic gardenia note in here, which is the whole reason I wanted to sample this fragrance. I'm not impressed.

Seemed like an expensive soap to in the opening. Has the Roja class and quality, from the bottle to the smell and the longevity. Not a photorealistic gardenia, but a lovely white floral nonetheless.

How realistic is the note? Enough to remind me of walking in my grandparents garden. Beautiful.
