Romeo Gigli per Uomo is one of my all-time favourites that I love even more each time I wear it. The flacon is a work of art, unique, and supremely elegant, with an air of mystery - there is no label or logo - like a genie’s bottle or a crystal decanter filled with a rare and priceless liquor. Emerald green, the content within looks like a magic potion. A wondrous elixir of intoxicating pleasure, so much so that each time I wear it I find myself constantly sniffing my wrist, grinning like an idiot. Per Uomo feels very Italian (to me) - like one of those compositions with a million ingredients - this is a full-bodied, multifaceted, dynamic olfactory symphony that evolves in such a way that the distinct stages in the pyramid are apparent. What I love the most about Per Uomo is that it is a tantalising, seductive sensory experience that feels familiar in style (reminds me of Fendi Uomo in that regard) yet every stage in its evolution is eclectically different to what one might expect. The overture is unlike anything else I can think of - aldehydes, a kind of aromatic citrus with subtle sweetness, which I presume is plum (although I wouldn’t have identified it without help from the notes listed above) accompanied by a distinctive Palisander rosewood. Can’t think of any other fragrance that starts off quite like this. The top notes recede into a mosaic of florals warmed by cinnamon, ginger, and woods united by a smooth resinous honey. At this point I get the impression of a subtle animalic note that’s probably illusory but reminds me of civet. The dry down is heavenly, soft warm and seductive like velvet - oakmoss, sandalwood, patchouli on a bed of resinous ambery-vanillic coumarin, musk and benzoin. Romeo Gigli is perhaps best known for his popularity among celebrities, notably the members of U2 - and as the designer of Bono’s iconic sunglasses and leather jackets, and his style has always been bold and innovative. Per Uomo is a stylish gentleman’s fragrance, a pleasure for wearer and entourage alike, and one of Alberto Morillas’ finest. A real crowd pleaser too - most people seem to like it and it even elicits compliments from strangers (today a lady in the supermarket asked what I was wearing because she thought her husband would like it) A real shame it has been discontinued - it is a truly beautiful and stylish men’s fragrance that feels wonderfully eclectic - like a really nice variation on a theme. Alberto Morillas created many of my favourites and this is a superlative example of creative designer perfumery. Per Uomo is complex, sophisticated, multifaceted and so intoxicating that I’m confident this would be a safe blind buy - if you can find it at a reasonable price.

I love everything about Romeo Gigli per Uomo. The box is simple, stylish and understated, the bottle is a work of art, and the juice itself is a masterpiece - exquisitely masculine in a very Italian way. For some reason, when I first savoured this heavenly fragrance, it took me back to Saint Tropez many years ago, and brought to mind an extremely good-looking young Italian model with a dark tan wearing the kind of swimming costume that only an Italian man could wear without his masculinity being questioned. Not that this is in any way exclusively for Italian male supermodels, it's just that that is the association this fragrance evokes for me. The opening is quite strong, rich, spicy, a bit green, with a woody dimension and as it develops I'm positive that I detect the presence of an animalic note - specifically civet, (à la Furyo, although much more subtle and understated) although it might be an aspect of the musk, accompanied by a symphony of spices, herbs and woods which compliment one another so beautifully that it becomes a wonderfully harmonious tribute to masculinity. Another reviewer likened it to a soohisticated Dalì painting and that description seems very apt - per Uomo is so multi-faceted that, like a Salavador Dalì masterpiece, there is a wealth of fine detail, depth and style that it seems to adapt itself perfectly to each individual who wears it - on my skin it becomes very woody, musky and almost animalic, yet on another guy I know it seems that green, spicy, almost herbal notes come to the fore. Longevity is outstanding, sillage is moderate and subtle, it is wonderfully complex and unfailingly pleasant to others, and attracts lots of compliments. Per Uomo is a masterpiece, stylish, timeless, masculine, and so multi-faceted that it adapts itself to each individual wearer beautifully. Worthy of a standing ovation. I absolutely LOVE this fragrance.

When Romeo Gigli Uomo first was launched in 89'...I never forget how much I enjoyed the sweet/powdery/woodsy vib from musk, patucchli sandalwood and a definite blast of Brazilian rosewood and aldehydes. After setting a HUGE robust aroma of amber and benzion gives this juice a warm spicy blend. The floral note of jasmine adds to the sweetness without it being cloying. Longevity and Silage is very high lasting well over 8hrs...I'm able to pick up the aroma at least 2ft away. Final thoughts, I have stated that some of best-known fragrance were created from 1980-1993. Out of the few men's frag's that were created by RGU...hands down this juice takes full points. After 30yrs I found a 100ml bottle with a faded purple box at a boutique tucked behind more current fragrance's. The owner had almost taken it to his warehouse because no one was willing to try it. What a shame that this amazing GEM is lost in this brand name recognitions today. I almost gave up trying to find the genuine fragrance, there's several bottles with a green-yellowish liquid. The original version has a vivid green color. If you are open to something that has a real woodsy-spicy-oriental aroma with a pronounced sweet/powdery top note...try this juice and you might consider it if you enjoy it. I'm not giving up my 2nd bottle. This frag is excellent during the early spring and into the very late summer through fall. Recommended when you want to turn on your partner or intimate friend. This fragrance will curl your partner's toes...enjoy ☺ 9.5/10

Gigli per Uomo is a remarkably stylish fragrance quite unlike anything around now. The flacon is a work of art and one of the most beautiful ever. To make it idiot-proof the box includes a leaflet explaining how to remove the cap. Gigli used the same flacon for Sud Est, GPU’s more “Mediterranean” sibling. With the genie bottle and its jade content Gigli per Uomo looks like a magic potion. And it is magical. Gigli per Uomo is classy, stylish and sophisticated, and a real chameleon of a fragrance. Seem to recall this was more woody last time I wore it, but today it feels more aromatic, oakmossy, subtly spiced and floral than I remember. A remarkably beautiful, multifaceted blend with a very elegant musky dimension. Agree totally with BlindFuryFragFanatic’s analysis below. Maybe it’s my imagination but I could swear Gigli per Uomo adapts to the wearer’s mood, smells different on different people, and presents different facets as it evolves every time you wear it. Gigli per Uomo creates an aura of mystery and elegance with a bewitching effect on others that persists long after it becomes imperceptible to its wearer. The flacon is a work of art and a thing of beauty. If you can get hold of this gem at a reasonable price it’s certainly worth considering.

Romeo Gigli per Uomo has attained cult status since its discontinuation, receiving praise from so many— yet none of the online reviews state what I thought to be obvious: it was composed by Morillas as an ode to absinthe. Even the color of the juice is the hue of this fabled tipple. The impression of bitter-sage-via-thuja wormwood oil, the delightful green-anisic tarragon, the sweet camphor of hyssop, it's all here. Yet, what lies within this framework is the sensibility of a masculine amber fougere, with its lineage traced back to Le 3e Homme de Caron and even further back, to an extent, to Fabergé Brut. Here, however, there is a plum accord, not unlike that of Rochas Femme, that, further in its development almost, but not quite, supplants the opening absinthe aromatics. This unlikely turn of events truly adds to the appeal, giving it a chypre-like feel into its dry down. Its base is a velour in shades of purple and pine, accented with balsam fir absolute and patchouli. It makes my heart ache that this is no longer in production, as it was truly a standout of its time, and one of the last truly innovative fragrances marketed to the male that would be released until at least the 21st century. It is also most definitely unisex.

One of my go-to guys from the 1990s, Fragantica enables me to see that this fragrance contains practically every ingredient that is included in all of my favourite juices, whether more recent or sentimental journeys. It was and remains superb. With that many notes in it that I could hardly do them all justice, perhaps the more important thing that I can talk about is its gestalt. First there's the bottle, which was once a thing of directional fashion in the 1990s (and perhaps became more tired and lacklustre later on). Nonetheless, there is a piece of beautiful congruence between the bottle design and what lies within it. This IS a fragrance deeply forged in "male spaces": the barber, the purveyor of gentlemen's toilet requisites, etc. But, does that make it "male"? I suspect not, at least not in any objective way. Green, clean and smooth are the words I would use to sum up this singular juice. The genitalia of the wearer is oddly irrelevant when you get down to the nitty-gritty of this truly wonderful scent. It's one that will remain on my reach-for list until I die.

Years pass, and that iconic bottle left inside the bathroom cabinet behind other perfumes suddenly reappears, I savor those seconds that pass between looking at it and bringing it to my nose and I wonder if the memory of the perfume will always be the same, aware that if I keep them good for years, like a good wine, it cannot be ruined... I liked it and I still like it now, it is difficult to explain what reaches the nose because the perfume is much more complex than one might imagine, the There are many "ingredients" and at the time their quality was at the top; I consider it not excessively masculine, in the end it is a creation from the 90s, when the transition to a less masculine genre began with these small steps, I feel it to be light, warm, green, spicy and also slightly powdery and with an amber finish. I certainly made a big mess in the description but I can tell you that it is good good good, very original and very elegant, it has survived the years well and what to add...? But how beautiful were Romeo Gigli's clothes?

i had it and i miss it. it's a bit spicy, a bit fruity, with oakmoss, patchuli, rose and cedar. for me the scent is connected to the wine, the sun and the country. it reminds me a sunday noon at the vineyard. it has that "a walk in the vineyard" vibe, like the "a walk in the forest" vibe of equipage. it's only my opinion ok? performance is good, the spring is the best season to use it. it smells a bit dated nowadays but i have to say this fragrance is very interesting and complex, so try it if u find it. the recent releases from romeo gigli are vey cheap, until the early 90's underrated houses like this, soldano, soprani and battistoni had very good products, i hope they will come back to that quality and style. profumo interessante e particolare. scent-8 long-8 sillage-8 uniqueness-8,5 bottle-7,5 compliment factor-6 my vote-8 in one word- vineyard

My spouse recently rediscovered this in the back of the cabinet and WOW! Agree with other reviewers below with the comments about the rosewood and blending with the green perfectly. The smoky plum comment is also dead on. It’s hard to not display the cool bottle which still looks fantastic. I’m awed now this does not smell dated at all but very modern and niche.

  • em inglês

I'm in agreement with so many of the reviews here. Loved this for a time in the early 90's and just moved on to others. I'll be watching for a bottle now to rekindle those good times!

  • em inglês

Bring this back, its time has come. The fragrance that made my 19-year-old self understand aldehydes and depth. (And move way, way beyond Drakkar Noir.) An underrated masterpiece.

  • em inglês

I absolutely love it. Anything tarragon/ licorice/wormwood/anise/basil seems to grab my attention. I think this is unisex. Love it on me or a man. Aromatic ambery green chypre.

Mystifying, spiced, lightly powdered sugar plums. Ah, My friends! My fr-riends!! Thank you Fragrantica and all of you that make it what it is. The Blind Another very interesting fragrance from Alberto the Magnificent! No longer a young 20 year old without a chemistry degree trying to madly follow his passion. 1986, Now it's 15 years later and a fragrance by the name of Obsession is beginning to take the world by storm. Robert Slattery instantly was recognized for it, several interesting stories later including luring giant cats with it may have added to the fame. Meanwhile Morillas was making Panthere by Cartier for women, which many consider to be a masterpiece of an oriental chypre. 2 years later Morillas, now with plenty of experience, would follow up with his first fantastic men's release Sybaris for Puig. Finally, 1991 rolls around and the eccentric and quirky fashion line Romeo Gigli would task Alberto with making them an incensy barbershop clean fragrance that would match their interesting and unique line. That gypsy mystique with an Italian sleek sense of style. To me, what came out was both clean orderly yet mildly nonchalant and disheveled. Victor and Rolfe would later make Antidote to pay homage to the peculiar and wonderful snake bitten Romeo Gigli Uomo, now also a discontinued lost love for many. The Fury I like having reasons for wearing different things. Something that is not the same as my other fragrances and not simple, but not too far off from what I like. Something spiced, but sour. Something sweet, but a bit bitter. Something unfamiliar and different but still familiar enough to wear it with a purpose. Eccentric. I located a bottle that I could confirm as best as possible as legit by the depth of the green color and the atomizer stem being the correct length. The colors all matched and something about this bottle said it was a very old vintage. I was very lucky to find this, it lasts an incredibly long time for a designer. I normally dont disclose prices for fragrances but because this is vintage and it may help someone determine cost, I paid $50 for around 85% in a 100ml bottle. The Fragrance The blend is bright and clean, but with an incense type of spice that rolls around. It smells very similar to Obsession to me with less animalic dirty sexy notes, more resinous floral friendly and clean. It feels like this is Obsession's younger and less shallow cousin. Quirky and complex, more intelligent. The succession from the chypre Panthere to the barbershop Sybaris to this splendid blend is apparent. Sillage is 2 to 4 feet as I find it quite springy in diffusion, but still rich enough to linger. Projection goes strong without a respray for over 6 to 8 hours. There will still be wafts over 12 hours and more for me. It will stay on cloths pretty much until washed. Many of the notes listed are detectable, but this blend is very linear. Again I would want it to be, this is very unique and mystifying. I do not want it to change through any progressions. I love how it stays this way in the drydown. I love this smell! It will be my signature! The Fanatical I dont want to even attempt to change the dna of this. It's a perfect 10 for me. I would wear this almost anyplace anytime. I might not select this for extreme heat, but I might try sometime. I really like wearing this in Spring and Fall, but I think the spiced profile reminds of Fall more than anything.

I bought the fragrance when it was brand new out in 1991. I was in Vienna then in a classical dance school, so it will always remind me of that fabulous time. It is an interesting spicy, oriental smell (similar in grouping as Insense by Givenchy) with elements of plum, cinnamon, vanilla, woods and some very refreshing green notes that are in the top and middle notes. I have a very artistic association to the scent and the bottle implies that as well: think of a very sophisticated Salvatore Dali painting. I have never seen or used the scent since then. I cannot say it is one I have to have again but I have fond memories with it. Similar fragrances: Insense/ Givenchy, Prada/ Prada for men, Opium for men/ YSL, Egoiste/ Chanel

The second fougere from Romeo Gigli’s aromatic couple manifests the soapy character of the genre. It is just as good (as the yellow Sud Est) in terms of blend and materials’ quality. And while Per Uomo SE is the fresh fougere with the vibrant green aspect (sage, pine, basil, rosemary), this Per Uomo is the lavender piece that showcases fougeres love for the clean and elegant male. I applaud the way the rosewood implies the gentle nature of the wearer. I need to also point the great presentation. Cool bottles, clever caps, and an arty attention to detail where the color of one’s cap matches the color of the other’s liquid. ****(*)

✮✮✮✮ I haven't smelled this for decades, I did today and it didn't change a bit, it's still a classic, timeless and beautiful perfume. Question: does anybody know the ROMEO GIGLI SUD EST MAN? That is offered on eBay and isn't listet here on FRAGRANTICA. I would like to know if it's worth buying it. Thank you for any hint.

If anyone owned a viktor&rolf antidote, then you owned one a history of this classic romeo gigli. Nowdays you wouldn't find it anywhere except old products probably expired already although unopened. The green liquid reminds me of viktor&rolf and vetiver by guerlain. But those two are a lot fresher and good sillage.

  • em inglês

The only thing that comes close to this is viktor rolf antidote. What a charming scent, I used to own this back in 1994 as I traveled to Europe. If you really want this go and seek antidote by viktor rolf. I'm not saying it's an exact but go discover yourself. To me it is close enough.

  • em inglês

I just bought 2 old bottles made by Proteo Profumi of Sud Est. Very nice, very herbal and quite spicey with some pine. Dynamic and natural smelling. Closest similar would be Paco Rabanne Sport, but that is more herbal and mossy, less piney. Like it.

  • em inglês

To my nose this Romeo scent is fresh, old fashioned, real masculine stuff, smells like an after shave, very intense and strong, I think good for age 45 and up...I can smell also dusty cigarette in the background, like an older man who used after shave and smoking:D

  • em inglês

Romeo Gigli is a late 80's / early 90's masterpiece sitting right next to Givenchy's Insensé and Krizia's Spazio Uomo - not from sharing any notes or directions, it's something utterly different, yet from being an ingeniously rich and complex-facetted composition, that - by this very quality - archives some utter unsurpassed uniqueness. On a personal level, that's to me yet another difference to these other two - I had it when it came out. To contextualise, Romeo Gigli as a designer, inhabited, in the early '90s, at least north of the Alps, a somewhat mystical image - something between a European, and indeed very Italian, version of some concepts Yamamoto was looking into, and, at the same time, an organic, bio, offspring of Armani's legacy. Gigli's fashion was thoroughly discrete and suave, and also more likely to find in some avant-garde outlets than elsewhere. The perfume picks this up on some levels, the packaging was made from a non-glossy, course paper - in perfumery back then probably considered heresy - and the bottle, which is fantastic design - did not show the name or label of its author. In the 80/90's this also was pretty much unseen. As a scent, it builds a middle point between Caron's '85 Troisieme Homme and Shiseido's '92 Feminité du Bois. An all-time favourite!

I'm grateful to Fragrantica to have a website like this for nosey people. It has been proven by a psychologist that I know that our sense of smell after all is our first impression upon entering a room or meeting someone immediately after shaking their hand. My memory of this fragrance was haunting me. It was forming into a nightmare of a bearded man with a sharp curved sword riding on a camel following my cab in the streets of NYC in the early 90's. I thought it was catnip in a bottle as a result of women's compliments at the time. I could easily draw the bottle and describe every detail, but I could not identify the fragrance to save me. Due to its warm, spicy, oriental, frankincense, scent I kept visualizing a dark opaque green bottle with its distinct red round cap and its elegant wrapped wired collar design.

  • em inglês

This is what I look for in a fragrance. There are quite a few notes, with quite a bit of contrast, yet they work so well together. Despite all these notes, there is no "blob" effect, and you can actually detect many if not most of them. It's natural smelling and pleasant, but not in any way overwhelming or harsh. One might call the drydown "subtle" or "understated." Longevity is excellent. The only reason not to wear this is if you are seeking a fragrance with a focus on a particular note or accord (or if you fear these "old" fragrances). This is definitely not too sweet, as some claim, and I really hate super-sweet ones (and usually don't like ones with moderate sweetness); this one is just right !

  • em inglês

Romeo Gigli for men is a fragrance very sweet, I remember years ago advertising was represented by an Indian holy man who had with him this beautiful bottle, but the interior was and still is something wonderful, to spray the first one is hit by a gentle creamy soap then after a few minutes, the road a generous heart of the most disparate scents, rose and jasmine of all, the fund has an agreement with sandalwood amber and wood prized, the impression that it has something Wild, I do not know if there are perfumes that are like Romeo Gigli, but at the time gave me an extraordinary impression, I hope that the production of this perfume continues, otherwise it would be a shame. Green, aromatic, with a lot of depth and notes in It. I was blown away by the opening, great one, very updated and good. Cinnamon plays the leading role in the opening. It is like a SpiceBomb but made for men who like to dress well with a crisp white shirt and a Nice watch on their wrist.... not for undeveloped teenagers like the ones SpiceBomb adress to. The father of Carven Homme and Antidote, with strong resemblance with SpiceBomb also. The drydown is more on the vintage side, slightly animalic also. It has an amazing honey undertone, that lingers from the begining till end. A very interesting offering!

For years all I had were sample vials of Romeo Gigli Uomo. I couldn't find it anywhere in 2000 when I was given the samples. So I assumed it was discontinued. I finally found it in 2002 at a discount perfume shop. I bought a bottle without smelling it 'cause I loved the samples that much. I tried it a few times and it just didn't smell the same. The sample vials only said "Romeo Gigli" on them and I didn't notice the box having "Uomo" on it when I bought it. I wonder if he had another cologne?

  • em inglês

Romeo Gigli opens with a blast of aldehydes and intense plum and rosewood, quickly followed by strong evergreens, sweetened with honey creating an interesting bitter-sweet contrast. Cinnamon quickly begins to dominate, and mixed with the balsamic notes, creates an exotic herbal-spicy sharpness throughout the warm musky, slightly powdery drydown. The scent is very interesting-masculine, but not typical; quite rich and heavy, with a bit of a resemblance to Cola, like that in G Gigli (F).

  • em inglês

I love this fragrance. I bought it when it came out and I loved the distinct honey, patchouli, ginger and especially cinnamon notes to it. It has a slightly sweet Big Red chewing gum element to it, but its so different it adds to it's unique charm. Spicy, woody and slightly sweet is how I would describe it. Very very hard to find, but well worth tracking down if you can. Big thumbs up A+++. I really think this one deserves a relaunch, it would again be a big seller

This fragrance is 1989 not 1991. The 1987-90 are the golden years of Romeo Gigli, he was at the top! The fantastic bottle was designed by Jacques Helleu (for 40 years artistic director of Chanel). The perfume is a wonderful Oriental/fougere with an elegant spicy-amber drydown. A very rare but a very special fragrance. I don't recognize the box of the pic with the script: "the classic fragrance"... a new refurmulated version? My original box from 90s haven't this..

I love you, Fragrantica! I couldn't remember the name or maker of this and I combed through all the men's designer names and bottles listed, looking for the shape of the bottle, and HERE IT IS! My friend Brent used to wear this in high school, his mom bought it for him. The scent of it drove me bananas, it smells unbelievably warm and delicious. I seized every opportunity to bury my face in his neck with huge hugs so I could breathe it in.

  • em inglês

I wore the heck out of this in the day. I recently ordered a bottle of it online and was thrilled to find it just the way I remembered. Certainly not for every man as it is very warm and somewhat spicy in the drydown. The balsam, cedar and rosewood have very nice play with each other. If you are into the notes, you'll be happy you hunted it down. It does not smell dated, just unusual in the sea of clean nothing-ness out there now.

I own over 100 bottles of colognes and this was one that I was missing for a long time. Finally got my hands two bottles thru a manager at one of the outlets. I don't think they knew the worth of it. I ended up paying $100 for two 100ml bottles and it's been over three years and I still one full and one half bottle. Personally it is one of my top ten in all time men's colognes.

I smelled this for the first time today, and fell intensely in love with it. I think it works for either men or women. I ran up to my husband and told him "Smell MEEEE!!" Wonderful, seductively sweet fragrance. I've managed to find 10 (I'm keeping two for myself) small .17 oz. bottles of this magic potion. If anyone would like to purchase one, let me know!

This was a special brew. Its unique freshness was combined with an orgy of an unusual flower bouquet and delightful spice accords. It was a powerfully aromatic scent from initial application to its glorious dry down, and it lingered on the skin until the next day. It elicited many compliments. What a loss! Bring it back!
