The reviews below that compare this fragrance to Jovan Musk are pretty spot on. It's almost like Jovan Musk Light Blue. RC Musk is not quite as potent as Jovan. It's lighter and fresher over all, a cooler scent with an alternate drydown. After an hour or so, it begins to resemble RC original. RC Musk is slightly more butch than regular RC, and ladies might find it more sexy. I don't think it's quite as potent as RC, but that might be because my 8 oz splash bottle is less concentrated than the cologne spray (the same is true with the two versions of Stetson), but I haven't confirmed this. I would have to try Royal Copenhagen Musk spray cologne to compare it with the cologne splash. It's interesting to find a classic musk offering that is so light. It doesn't rock the boat and remains polite and gentlemanly. Unless you just bathe in it, you're not going to choke anyone out with this one. Millennials are either gonna love the retro charm or dispise it for being too retro. Either way, it's a mannerly, subtle fragrance that's probably going to be devisive. This is something I love about classics. Where they used to be mainstream, now they're provocative and daring just by virtue of being old. UPDATE: RC Musk splash IS different than the spray version. The splash seems to have more concentrated top notes and less base. The reverse is true for the spray. So if you want a more powerful burst that fades more quickly, get the splash. If you want a musk that continues on more subtlety, yet the spray. Or you can be bold AF like me and use both!

Picked up a brand new bottle of this the other day and man do I love the smell. Vintage and classy. It doesn't feel old man-ish to me, but it definitely smells like it's from yesteryear. Love this one, such a fantastic smell. I can't imagine anyone smelling this and thinking it smells horrible. Feels very inoffensive and gentlemanly. Wearing this you stick out from the Sauvage/1 mil/La Nuit De L'omme crowd and while it may not have the sex appeal as those, I think most people will appreciate the scent. If you like classic mens fragrances from the 70s and 80s, I highly recommend trying this. RC Musk smells similar to the original RC, but less powdery and more musky. If you like one, chances are you'll like both and I do think there is a place to have both in your collection. Musk works better for work and a less formal circumstance whereas RC original is probably better when you're dressing more formally. Either my dad or grandfather owned something remarkably similar to this as it immediately smelt familiar and evoked mental images of both of them. I own Brut, Clubman Pinaud and Old Spice as while it is in the same family, it smells very different. I might have to go pick up a bottle of Aqua Velva and Lectric shave to see if that's what it reminds me of. It could also be a mens soap from the 80s.

Certainly one of the more famous iconic fragrances from the house of Royal Copenhagen (making porcelain in a white-blue style!) For a ridiculous price, you get either a 100ml sprayer cologne or a 240ml large bottle with original splash (The hole from which it flows out to a large extent!) The scent itself is similar to the original Royal Copenhagen with added musk... The initial splash on your skin immediately offers you a trip to the last century of the golden age of perfumes - in which perfumes smelled steroid and masculine strong! Don't be fooled by the beginning (you get the feeling that it will smell like this for only 5 minutes!) I "distributed" it a little too much on my dress, but I rubbed it well into my skin on my neck and the magic stayed with me the whole day! From around 7 a.m. until 11 p.m., when I returned home, my family kept complimenting me on what it smells like all of a sudden! It smells powdery, musky and aldehyde clean! Legends say that it was once considered a man's secret weapon (Women really like it!!) I think that today almost no one from the new generations knows it - the older ones who are well acquainted with it - quietly continue to use it in the hope that they will make it forever! :) Try it for €15-24, it's totally worth it!!!

This a barbershop in a bottle. This is my first "musk" fragrance and I was almost expecting something the slightest bit stinky or dark. That wasn't the case whatsoever. If you're a man or boy, smelling this will instantly transport you back into every barbershop owned and operated by men that you've ever been to. The musk gives a vibrant, warm tone to the concoction, and the floral notes balance the warmth out into an aquatic, gelatinous, soapy, comforting atmosphere. There is a slight warm spiciness to it all, likely attributable to the musk. It's a beautiful smell, very clean, very fresh, good in any season for any occasion. The only thing I dislike about the 200ml container is that there is no atomizer. It's meant to be splashed onto the hands and slapped on the neck, which for roughly $20, it may as well be used liberally. Nonetheless, I will be buying a refillable bottle to use for this one, and will likely use it every time I get out of the shower.

RC Musk is an inexpensive, classy yet "friendly" scent that's suitable for everything from grocery store errands to an evening concert. On skin it lasts about 5-6 hours, a bit longer on fabric. I agree with most of the comments here. The aldehydes' zing is definitely present at first in this newest formulation. That quickly quiets down to a lavender/jasmine skin scent, set off by herbs and spices. I snagged an 8 ounce splash bottle for just over $17 on a favorite site of Fragranticans. I've decanted to a spray bottle. Someone commented that this fragrance smells like Tide (detergent). I don't smell Tide specifically, but I could see where someone could think this is a generic, clean scent on the surface. For my money, and for what RC Musk is: it rocks, and is worth a try as a fragrance that could be your "running buddy" for everyday occasions. I go through a lot of this stuff on a regular basis. I hope they never change it from its current form.

10/10 This fragrance is enlightened, personal fav. Herbaceous notes complimented by just the right amount of floral scent with a background of intoxicating musk, all in perfect harmony. Light yet interesting, smooth scent. The Sage, Basil, Amber and Musk, backed up by the floral notes, really come through to me. Only complaint is this scent QUICKLY loses strength and has a pretty weak silage. You are going to be wearing this just for you and anyone who gets considerably close to you. Though at the price you can bathe yourself in this scent and have an hour or two of ecstasy. Really wish it was stronger.

Royal Copenhagen Musk is a gem of a fragrance—and a bit of a secret nowadays. I've owned a bottle for the past 4 years and enjoy wearing it. I enthusiastically encourage anyone who loves soapy, floral, musky scents—or indeed, anyone who embraces gentlemanly tradition—to get a bottle of Royal Copenhagen Musk. For less than ten bucks you can experience an unsung classic that might very likely rank among your favorites.

An underrated gem of a fragrance. Absolutely sublime. Makes me think of carefree summer days of my childhood in the 1970's. My bottle is from 4 years ago, so obviously the reformulation was done right. I don't know how anyone could not love this. From the top notes all the way through the late dry down, it's a winner. It really does well on a hot summers day after a shower. It elevates my mood.

Epic Journey Into the Bottled Yonder, 063 ------------------------------------------------------- Purchased July 2017 Quite addictive. Old-school soapy barbershop in frag form. The original and this flanker are animalic in the sense that they are disliked for their strong, unusual out of the shower vibe. No idea how to describe them but I've always loved them.

I have the after shave. It’s fantastic! I get around 8 hours and the silage is pretty good. It’s kind of dreamy on me. It somehow puts me in a calm, relaxed mood. The musk and florals dominate but I smell spices and lavender too. The price is great on this. I have only smelled the after shave. The original is also pretty good but I like the musk better.

This a lovely. A gorgeous clean aldehydic/soapy fragrance. I find it similar to Jovan Musk and a little like Tabac. The drydown though, is nicer than either of these. Longevity is not too bad for a cologne strength. Great to splash on your face to smell really clean and fresh. Very nice indeed!

Just tried it. Love this stuff. On my skin/clothes, this is one of very few fragrances that lasts all day and smells awesome.

For the price, this is firmly in the You Can't Go Wrong category.

Very nice soapy and clean scent. but longevity is weak

This review is for Vintage formulation of Royal Copenhagen Musk (from an 8oz. Splash bottle): Very, very good...and, "special", to me. I read the reviews here and what I got was similar to knightz. To me, this is about fresh herbal/green notes balanced with florals - all on a base of musk and moss. The opening is rather striking and one that I really am fond of. One does not think a "Musk" could be so clean, airy and yet rich with all these notes that are far away from an animalic accord - and this is done exceptionally well. You see, I know the original Royal Copenhagen from my youth, along with original Vintage bottlings of Jovan Musk for Men, Coty's Musk, Vintage Jovan Sex Appeal for Men, Original Old Spice, Vintage Brut and many others. I am pretty sure my father had the "Musk" bottling by RC in its Vintage form when I was young, so I sought it out to do a comparative thread on Vintage "Musk" scents of a bygone era. This one struck me as profoundly different and one that I have a deep fondness for - like I had for Original/Vintage Royal Copenhagen when I was a kid. This is not about macho - this is about refreshment and a wonderful aromatic composition that lasts virtually all day. A little touch-up goes a long way, too! The opening of lavender and herbs is great - mostly sage and basil, but I detect a hint of thyme as well. This is very nice and definitely (in Vintage form), does not smell cheap or synthetic at all - it actually smells very natural. Read people's reviews on Basenotes about Vintage Royal Copenhagen Musk (and the standard bottling) and you will see that I am not alone in my opinion - what it is today is nothing more than a bottle of synthetic blue liquid that smells watery & cheap. Vintage is another scent altogether! The transition from the bright and lively top to the nice floral heart is wonderful, the lavender stays and the herbs keep lingering for a great effect...I find this builds in warmth and strength on my skin like a true, good musk should. The jasmine in the heart creates the brilliant powdery accord, but not one that is unnatural or anything feminine - it is a wonderful, clean barbershop note that carries the scent. Along with the neroli and lily-of-the-valley, this really opens up. Nutmeg comes in at the end of the heart along with the cloves - this is really breathing nicely! The spices are key here as they take the freshness from the top and transition the scent to a nice dry down that really is wonderful. I adore the heart of this and find it to be compelling as it lingers for a long time... The base is where the warmth comes from - again, very organic and natural. I get a nice oakmoss first (again, mine in Vintage and pre-IFRA ban...so the true pyramid!) that really keeps this green and also a wonderful fixative that helps the freshness last. Along with a nice natural, earthy feel with the patchouli - which is a green and slightly herbaceous note here, not dark at all. The scent then goes into the nice clean musk. This is a nice and vibrant musk that is not dirty. What is smoldering under all of that is a smooth amber note - creating the solid base for this fragrance. Really a great fougere "vibe" from this...just no coumarin. Just a touch soapy and knightz puts forth - but in a classy, "milled-soap" feeling of cleanliness and sophistication. This is NOT even remotely the same as what current formulation is, so if you run out and buy a bottle from the drugstore expecting to get the Vintage Royal Copenhagen Musk, you will be very disappointed. I have only tried smelling by unscrewing the cap...and put it back on the shelf immediately. So, this bottle led me on a retro-journey to travel back in time. I still need to procure a couple more bottles that my father used to have, but I now have enough to start writing. What I find so good about RC Musk in Vintage form is how the entire composition just comes together and stays fresh for hours. This smells a bit dated - but so am I. ;-) I will be 40 later this year and have a large collection of Vintage fragrances from top labels. What I wanted to do was revisit the Musk's of Yesteryear. I am familiar with layering Vintage RC with Vintage RC Musk, but I wanted to write this review about Royal Copenhagen Musk in Vintage form unto itself. A memory...and now a great scent that I look forward to wearing (along with the other Vintage Musks) that I bought at first just to see "how much" things have changed, knowing them from my youth and smelling the chemical waste that is being labeled today under the same names. To remember vividly - is there anything more cool, Macho and Masculine from my youth than the moment I saw my dad finish shaving, rinse off the shaving cream and then reaching up into that cabinet, pulling down a bottle of nice musk, cupping his hand and splashing it on vigorously? No. The days are gone, but the images linger in my memory. It is what brought me to scent. It is part of me. Smelling my father and the aroma around him, now that's a man! It would last all-day long! When he left, I would sometimes even climb up to reach a precious bottle just to smell it and dab a little bit on (before I was shaving!). How it brings me back... This is truly exceptional scent that I have and I am very glad I decided to take this interesting little tangent in the world of fragrance. I will, for memories sake, keep a nice rotation of Vintage Musks around. Whether or not I even shave in the morning - after showering or washing my face thoroughly with a nice soap/cleanser, I find myself reaching for this bottle and other Vintage Musks as a way to start my day. A nice vigorous splash. I actually have to shower or wash it off in order to change scents as it is so potent and radiating - now, that is how it USED to be!!! I also sometimes touch up and put another splash on...it never gets cloying or overbearing. To smell like a gentleman never goes out of style and retro scents actually bring compliments from all age groups. It is how you carry yourself, your attire and attitude. It's about being a Man...something that perhaps is rare to find in our modern times. Not brash, overly-macho or arrogant - but refined, fresh and confident. No score. Precious memories are not quantifiable with a fraction. For you, Dad.

Both Royal Copenhagen and Royal Copenhagen Musk have a similar, very powdery, Lavender-Moss overtone. RC Musk is less powdery than regular RC. In the opening of RC Musk I get a fizzy note, like it's carbonated, that lasts for about 5 minutes after it dries. This effervescent-like fizz seems to tie right in with the underlying Musk in the base. The powdery accord affects every other note in the mix. The beautiful florals are powdery as well as the spices, but all the notes stay masculine. As it dries the powdery nuances change over to light soapiness. It's a little more casual than regular RC, but still it could be worn with a shirt and tie. It has an elegance that is challenged by the Musk. Good sillage and longevity for a cologne. It's a 35 year old classic, and available at a great price. I always keep an 8 oz. splash bottle around.

I got the 100ml colonge spray bottle made in the USA. The bottle is simple and represents the beginning of 80's, but the perfume inside is still young and manly. The rich powdery notes that you get initially is so soothing and robust. Soapy fresh, IMO slightly better than jovan musk. Can be a regular wear in spring and winter,also can be worn in summer with some caution. Overall a decent offering that will surely please everyone easily. Not much of complexity. Longevity,given that this is eau de cologne is pretty decent. Silage n projection is above average.

This is a floral musk with synthetic and metallic underpinnings. The undertone is very reminiscent of Kiehl's Musk but the Kiehl's is a dirty, "heavier" musk, while the Royal Copenhagen is more light, airy and slightly powdery. Kiehl's Musk is one of my favorite fragrances and while I love the underlying DNA similarities, I'm not as much of a fan of RC Musk, because the metallic note drives me away. Projection and longevity are average.

I've owned a 100 ml bottle of this for 4 years. Initially I didn't like it much. But since then it has grown into being a favorite musk scent for me. It's a soapy, clean, floral and musky scent that last for a long time on my skin. If you like classic 70'es fragrances you really should get yourself a bottle. The price is cheap, but the fragrance is certainly not. Thumps up for a lovely juice.

This is really very pleasant. It is an old-fashioned barber shop kind of thing, but not in any bad way. In part because I have the 240ml splash bottle. I'm really not used to putting cologne in my hands and splashing it all over the place, but it works for this one. Classic soapy musky flowery scent. And this happens to be the overall cheapest fragrance I own.

It's almost shameful how casual I treat this scent. I have a jug of it so after I put lotion on I pour some of this on my hands and put this all over. RC Musk doesn't have that nice baby powder that it's brother does but it's hard to find fault with this floral soapy goodness. I really want to see if spraying this scent makes a difference over splashing.

It is a sweet , fresh , musky but at the same time elegant scent. Not as heavy as Royal Copenhagen. It shares a few characteristics with Jovan musk but they are by no means identical or too close. It is a happy, musky scent. Two to three squirts and you are set for the day.

Bought as a day-to-day winter fragrance, like 4711 but for the winter. I think it’s quite nice, a bit musky, yet fresh. However I’m starting to get weary of it already after just a few usages, so we’ll see if I stick with it.

As RobbieX has mentioned in his review here, this is very close to Jovan Musk. A bit floral ,powdery and soapy. Good Musk and suits office wear. Overall a 7/10 . Good as a classic.Normal performance.

Musk note is awesome...reminds me of older versions of JOVAN MUSK....grt mentastic perfume but doesn't even last then an hour....so its of no use....poor poor very poor longevity so thumbs down...

This is actually insane value for someone that wants a clean musk fragrance on the cheap with minimal funk from musk (There is a slight bit of funk, but not too much at all).

Picked this up as a blind buy after a local radio host talked it up. It's nice but don't really think it's for me. Clean smelling, powdery but not nearly as much as the non-musk blend. It isn't overbearing or spicy at all, but has an everyday low-key kind of character.

When i originally bought this, it was a temped like. After having it for a few months, I absolutely HATE this scent. It smells cheap in the highest degree. Its also completely nauseating to me. I cant smell this without spraying something else to get rid of the horrid smell. Super, super, super cheap smelling (as is the fragrance itself) and overall just nasty. I could never wear this again. I would sell it but for the 12$ that it costs new, its just not worth it. Oh well, just another bottle in the back of my collection. 1/10. I cant smell this without getting completely nauseated

Never smelled anything like this cologne. It's earthy, but not in a dark woodsy way. It's fresh, but not in a sporty kinda way. It's floral, but not like a perfumy-flower scent. I'm really digging this cologne. The only bad thing is that it wears off faster than any other scent I own.

This was not good. I think I was trying to find a 70s style fragrance, and I hope this is not what the 70s were like.. LOL

Mine is not a truthful review: I bought it in 2011, never used it and, well, something happened because the blend became a powerbomb - upon application I could get whiffs of it eight hours after. I would call it a floral musk, I can detect white floral top notes, I would venture to say almost aldehydic. From there it gets straight to the musk: this term is inexact since it used to refer to the tincture made of the gonads of male deers - not anymore. What I get are different types of musk which, I assume from having smelt many, depends of fashion: it is not the musk in Avon's musk dating from the 1970's (or B*Men for the case, they share many similarities), nor the Musk of Kiehl's, this is rather the floral version of Jovan's or a coarser version of Houbigant's From there I can get whiffs of notes common to men's scents - lavender would be a spot since it is included in the pyramid, however carnation would not since it is not listed. The drydown settles into powdery notes in the context of a classical EdC - Blend a musky scent a la Houbigant with a classical EdC plus white florals... As far as my bottle goes I would not call it fine nor discreet, it is rather bold. Still, I enjoy it: the composition cries "clean", but at the same time, times gone bye. A polarizing scent indeed, chances are it will be a loved one by those into classics. I assume it could be despised by those venturing into more exclusive and updated options.

Just got a bottle of this for Christmas. Holy smokes. NOT at ALL what I was expecting. In a good way! So many reviews call this a straight up barbershop fragrance, and I'm not saying that's entirely off base, but it doesn't perfectly describe it either in my opinion. The lead singer in this band is named Lavender. This cologne is a total floral bomb, with the lavender proudly poised front and center. Though not to the detriment of the other florals. The white florals are also very present, and really serve to bolden, and, dare I say darken, the lavender. Besides that I'm mostly just getting a very very clean and soapy white musk. Oddly enough, I really don't think this smells very much like the original Royal Copenhagen. There's shared notes, to be sure, though they're presented in a much different context giving each a very different personality. Despite this I'm actually quite pleasantly surprised with Royal Copenhagen Musk. I was quite certain I would like it, but find I'm liking it much more than I thought I would; and indeed, more than original Royal Copenhagen. I'll be enjoying this one for sure. Now I just need to track down some reasonably priced Royal Copenhagen Sport and I'll have the full original lineup!

While certainly take other people's opinions into consideration, this is one fragrance that I will not. While I currently don't own this, I will own this when I am an older man, like mid 40's plus. This is how grandfather's smell. Not the one's that let themselves go, but the ones that still wear suits and top hats with a cane. The kind that carry a cane, but you know well enough that they could drop that cane and go without it. Now a shadow of their prime but they carry themselves with a distinguished pride and wisdom that all of us men can hope to aspire to. One guy below mentioned this smell's like an old man's ball sack. True enough, but this is a functioning old man's ball sack. I will own this when I am older.

RC Musk is a pleasant floral musk which has undertones of wood and spice. It is clean, yet rich. Understated, yet noticeable by those near you. A true gentleman's scent. I own several musk colognes, and RC Musk is one of my favorites. It never becomes odd smelling from the beginning to the end of the drydown several hours later. It has a scent in the Jovan/Tabac/Jade East Musk area. This is a musk I will wear as long as it is available. RC Musk can go from office wear to casual and on to a night on the town. And you can get an 8 Oz bottle for less than $20, a great value for what it gives you by smelling wonderful. If you like musk colognes, definitely worth having in your collection.

This will always have a special place in my heart, as my bf (later fiancé) from high school through college wore it. It is so distinctive that even now, I recognize it when I pass someone wearing it in the supermarket. (No, I hold zero torch for him—he turned out to be a kind of a rat.) It’s an addictive, masculine scent. Get it, guys. Women do remember it.

The current after shave of this is great, actually. Dark green in colour, it reflects its olfactory content well. Manly and comforting. Cheap as chips. What I don't understand is why the eau de toilette is so different. Blue in colour, powdery, perfumey, and kind of naff.

Great blind buy. This is just like Prada Amber where you can wear something inoffensive and soapy. Will definitely use this after the shower and for the office.

Not strong on me at all. Its Royal Copenhagen mixed with Jovan Musk or Jade East Musk. Good stuff. Wish it was stronger.
