Iris Absolu

#904 in my "Tour de Fragrance" During my career I've seen some incredibly stupid errors made by product managers. These were almost always corrected right away, or if not, certainly by the next release. I must ask, how drunk or high or otherwise mentally impaired was the product manager at Saint Hilaire when the names of "Iris Absolu", a scent with no iris whatever, and "Ambre Chic", an iris scent, were first stamped on the wrong bottles at the production line, and why hasn't this obvious error been corrected in the four years since? I certainly hope it was not something horrible like the manager responsible was on leave with a brain tumor or some such, but the question remains, how was this not corrected since 2020? Perhaps this was some harebrained attempt at ironic marketing. If so, I guess it worked on me because I wanted to see if what was apparent editing errors in the published notes were in fact the actual notes of scents and the names had actually somehow been switched. No mystery here in that regard. The notes are correct, The wrong names are actually on these products, have been for four years, and Saint Hilare has done nothing to correct the error. This belongs in a marketing textbook case study. I really want to call the product manager at Saint Hilare and ask for an explanation. I'm sure it would be fascinating. Anyway, this iris-free "Iris Absolu" is a pretty nice scent and not a bad performer. Basically what you have is YSL "La Nuit de L'Homme", a scent I already own, minus the bergamot note, which is actually a kinda shrill synthetic bergamot in the La Nuit. I much prefer this and think it's a classier scent for not having the cheap freshie vibe of that citrus. For me this is an $18 blind buy success. It's car pool, elevator and small office safe. Makes it to lunch. I'm happy with it.

I like this scent, it was cheap and I thought that was same smell like YSL nuit, because they shared the same notes too. Iris absolu is fresh and litte bit sweet, unisex, I think it's not as dense and spicy as YSL Nuit, similar but I miss something that I love in Nuit. The sillage and lasting is low, I spray in every 30 minutes. You can wear in all season, but mainly in the Spring and Summer.

Not sure as to why this is called Iris Absolu and the other scent in this line is called Ambre Chic as that is the one that contains Iris. Unlike Oud Ultime this has a bit more about it and last a while longer, around 1-2 hours. Ambre Chic has better sillage than this as it sits quite close to the skin. As with the other fragrances in this line, really nice presentation for the price, would recommend this more so than Oud Ultime, but not an essential to go out and buy, but not a disappointment at the price you will pay.
