Private Black

This is one of those good, old fashioned style compositions where notes are rather useless. Pop songs and celebufrags have hooks; three notes in succession like an earworm that heads for the wrong orifice. Imagine, if you will, Bulgari Eau Thé Noir with a creamy, indulgent heart lurking under the tea and leather. Something along the lines of Serge Luten's Datura Noir. It's perfect, if you are the kind of woman who outgrew your goth phase but is inordinately drawn to fragrances with Noir in the title (and a few very very dark lipsticks). It's also the kind of thing I love smelling on a man. I suppose it's technically an oud but I wouldn't call it one; it's a modern, gourmandy gents oriental in the vein of TF Noir Extreme. Stupidly excellent value.

This is a great aromatic fragrance in the same ballpark of Bentley for men intense. Quite 'simple' and straightforward. it pulls compliments with ease pleases me with good whiffs for a good 3-4 hours. The fragrance remains active for a good 6 hours on skin, though projection is discrete for the first couple oh hours, sitting to a skin scent thereafter. Lovely buy, good for fall, winter and chilly spring days and nights

An anemalic powdery sweet scent similar to Tom ford noir. But this has a lot more going on. Tom Ford is more rounder which is bad since it makes the fragrance boring. This starts of with spicy cola like notes then transitions to musky anemalic patchouli and powdery iris and dries down to an oriental amber. Musk is definitely the most prominent note along with patchouli, spices and amber.

yeah , i dont know what it smells like, but it smells good, not syntethic at all, seems to last a decent amount too. Good buy

To be fair to the cologne, I will come back and update this review if necessary. I wore this for the first time this morning, but I was so busy, I did not really have a chance to "stop and smell the roses," so to speak. Initial impressions, I do get notes of Amber and Musk right off the bat, as well as some spiciness with very slight wood and floral notes. After wearing it for about an hour, I had *impressions* of past colognes flitting through my mind. It has Jovan Sex Appeal/Realm/Obsession Oriental impressions, and at another point, Burberry Brit similarities with Lavender. Saffron does not exactly smell like Lavender, so I am wondering where that note is coming from. Do not get me wrong, I am not saying this smells EXACTLY like those, but those are other frags that come to mind when smelling this. I am still within my first 5 hours and detect the fragrance still, but from about 10 minutes after initial spray, this seems to sit pretty close to the skin for projection. I will have to test this out a little bit more for the sillage! Seems like it will be a decently versatile cologne as well, night/day, year round. Maybe not so much in the summer, but it still would not be as bad as something like Bogart Pour Homme or Obsession in the summer! Edit: So it did last about 6-8 hours, and I sprayed this again tonight before bed.. I still stand by the Jovan Sex Appeal/Realm for the base, but now it is more of a Fahrenheit impression for the Top, Burberry Brit for the Heart. This frag is quite complex, I like it!

Yes, it is similar to TF Noir, but comes to my mind to say also, it's a modernized Old Spice on steroids! The truth is at somewhere on the half way. Cheap but good strong oriental with some incense and strong cinnamon, saffron and oud. Musky also, but not too sweet. Just Jack Homme Noir is nearer to TF Noir, due to lot of incense and musk, without that amount of cinnamon. I like both, but it's not a safe blind buy! Only for oriental-fans! Thumbs up to Saint Hilaire Private Black!

This is a very nice, strong, dense, dark and warm oriental scent. Serious and elegant, with a mystical vibe, very cllose to the TF Noir DNA... If you're looking for a good substitute for a little money, you've found it. - Saint Hilaire pushes it well.

#895 in my "Tour de Fragrance" So this is a very eighties style scent. Think Drakkar, Quorum, Kouros, Boss Number One, Bogart One Man Show Gold, several of the Ted Lapidus scents, and scents since the turn of the century that call back to the eighties like Lalique Pour Homme (Lion) and Bentley Men Intense (the newest version without the rum). It's so dark and spicy it almost comes across as having an incense note. Def leans to the oriental. The cinnamon is a bit overdone for me, so like the bottles of Bentley Intense, Bogart Gold and Lalique Pour Homme on my shelf, I don't know that this one will see much use. If you're a cinnamon fan you probably won't mind. But I think if you're a younger guy this will remind you of your dad's if not your grandad's choices in fragrance. It's not exactly Brut, Yardley, British Leather and Pierre Cardin, but it's kind of in that realm. However, it's an inexpensive blind buy, very potent, certainly will last at least til lunch. If you don't overspray it won't offend anyone. So you may want to try it out. I think it's fairly likeable. It comes off old school to me, but if you're younger than thirty you won't remember scents like this so it may be something new and different to you and your crowd.
