Aprilis

This is my first review, and I thought I might as well lend it to this one. I'm so surprised to see such a low rating (2.4/5 with 6 votes at the time of this review). I went into a local boutique and was able to sample each of the 9 perfumes that Santa Eulalia offer and this was the only one that captivated me. In all honesty, several of the others that are rated higher made me make a [disapproving] face upon smelling them! On the skin, this starts out very spicy, with a whiff of citrus. In about 10-15 min, the drydown brings out the rose and white florals, and finally the oud comes out and leaves a pleasantly sweet, but warm and heady leather smell. In the store, this reminded me of a much more refined, longer-lasting older sibling to Gucci Premiere - after comparing the notes of both I can see why. Hopefully more people get their noses on this and the rating improves!

Tried this the other day in a department store and was quite pleasantly surprised. Juicy sparkly rose scent with great longevity. Can definitely detect the benzoin after the first ten minutes or so which gives this perfume a deep soft sweetness, which combined with the fresh rose and the lime makes this smell a bit like some (very high-quality) sweets. In a pleasant way!

A high quality, powerful floral composition dominated by a classic rose that lingers for a long time, eventually drying down to a slightly drier character—yet still radiant with luminous floral accords.

When it comes to woody rose scents, I'm easy to please, and Aprilis is certainly pleasing, but almost to a fault. It starts with a pleasantly deep though not particularly unique rose and oud combination, and is gradually sweetened by the benzoin and a fairly prominent orange blossom. I also get something faintly waxy and lipstick-like. The feeling it evokes is "department store beauty counter clerk at the end of a shift", where the smell of various designer perfumes and high-end cosmetics have faded and settled onto the skin and clothing as something gentle and luxurious in a vague, ambient way. It's very nice and is probably a safe bet for people who aren't overly into either rose or oud, but to my nose, the whole thing is just a bit nondescript.

A lovely classic rose which has some appealing harshness, reminds me a LOT of Memoize Superbia, or perhaps I should say Superbia reminds me of Aprilis as Aprilis came first. Not sure which full bottle I would choose
