Fresia

The most successful, beautiful, and captivating freesia I’ve encountered so far. I expected the scent of a fresh flower, but instead, I got a fragrance—a composition of classic floral accords, powdery musk, and subtle, almost herbal nuances in the base, as the scent settled intimately close to the skin. I would call it a vintage freesia, as it carries the charm of classic, beautifully refined, timeless femininity and the allure of a true lady. The sillage is fleeting, but on fabric, the composition lingers intimately for several hours. A beautiful experience!

Clean, floral, a teeny bit stemmy. Not getting outright soapy vibes but i can see why other people have. It's so lovely but so short lived and weak ): Edit: tried it multiple times again, and changed my mind, this scent is extremely dove soap and baby powder. It's still pleasant but it's definitely not what I'm looking for when i reach for a floral fragrance, especially a fresia. There's not much fresia going on here at all. A very nice clean girl right out of the shower skin scent if you're into that

it literally smells like cetaphil body wash in a perfume bottle and i love it. its soapy, clean, sterile, medical and inoffensive. i have extremely sensitive skin so i use fragrance-free soaps and body washes but this adds a lovely bow on top of the "clean girl" vibes. i work in a fragrance-free environment and this could slip through as "soap" and still smell good after long hours. i'd love to find more perfumes like this that could slip through as "soap" without being recognized as a perfume.

In the Santa Maria Novella family, I have Melograno, Musc d’Or, and Fresia, each of them being a variation on the theme of cleanliness and soapiness. Soft and icy like a frozen rose, Fresia is how I imagine a snowflake would smell like.

I found out about this particular fragrance in an article on K-pop idols' favorite fragrances. Who would have guessed it. I'd never heard of the brand before, but when I read their story, I really wanted to try this one and blind bought it. Yes, this is very soapy. And yet it also smells antique. I'll try to explain in detail since there aren't very many reviews for it. This smells like a soap you would use at a palace, manor, gothic estate, or very expensive hotel, but only if you're a distinguished guest. This is what nobility smells like fresh out of the bath. I can't say that this is definitely freesia, but it smells floral primarily. It's also a little powdery and yet aquatic which makes this very slightly masculine. It's not really spicy, but in the dry down, it smells a little green and earthy. There's something sacred and almost mystical about it. It's not incense, but perhaps some antique wood, like a polished wooden box where a Victorian lady would keep her cosmetics. I'll be honest, I didn't love it when I first smelled it because it wasn't what I expected. I think I expected a very linear and modern floral scent, whereas this is definitely one of those timeless kind of scents. It's not trendy, but it will always smell intriguing. It would be perfect for hot summer days when you just want to smell elegant and clean. I think I would really like it on someone else.

I was given the Santa Maria Discovery set by a friend who picked it up in Florence. Such a thoughtful gift! This is one of my top 3 from that set. It’s a powdery floral. When I first sprayed it on paper a month ago, the scent instantly conjured my mother. I had no idea why. My mother only wore two perfumes in my lifetime: Estee Lauder Pleasures which she wore from the 1990's until her death in 2014 and Nina Ricci L’Air Du Temps which she wore for many years prior. The memory was so strong, I needed to solve the mystery. I turned to Fragrantica to the "smells like" section and, lo and behold, others thought it smelled like L’Air du Temps. Now my memory made sense. Even though it had been some 30 years since my mother wore that perfume, the memory was embedded in my brain and this familiar scent took me right back. It fascinating to me how some similar notes can bring forth such a joyous memory. I’m happy to have had it. Interesting to note, when I tested again today, on paper and on skin, I no longer had the same association. The memory was gone. I may not buy a full bottle, but I will enjoy my sample!

My introduction to SMN, bought this on my bday in Soho, NY. I've never smelt or seen a freesia in real life, so I can't comment on that really. But when I sniff this bottle & close my eyes, I see Chowards Violet Candy sitting on my vanity next to a bottle of Chance Eau de Toilette by Chanel - maybe it's the shared iris note. I personally loved this scent down to the last drop. In the rainy New York spring, it reminds me of Tinkerbell and scolling through the Pixie Hollow website at 9 years old. It is a clean, fresh, everyday scent that I love to layer with Amber by Nemat to give some depth. Someone described as a lipstick rose, I definitely get a hint of that. It definitely has a powder undertone to it but I think that is the Iris, Violet, and Musk mixing together. There also is a drop of rose that may rest on the skin after hours of wear, but so subtly (to me). I once rekindled with an old situationship and when he hugged me goodbye, he smelled the Freesia in my hair and the Amber on the skin of the back of my neck and muttered, "...I missed your scent."

This smells like old-fashioned floral soap - not the sudsy accord often called soapy in other fragrances, but a lighter and more botanical scent. It's lovely and very clean. While this arguably counts as a fresh fragrance, it lacks many of the notes associated with that category - strong citrus, aldehydes, and marine notes are not in evidence here. It is, however, refreshing. If you wear it after showering, you'll probably feel even cleaner than you did before applying it. It's definitely feminine by modern standards, but it would not be out of place on a man dressed in a slightly anachronistic suit. Of course anyone can choose to wear it. I might enjoy using it on a casual day at home, when I want to feel clean and relaxed and can wash it off if I grow tired of its soapiness. I have some trouble with very clean fragrances, so I don't think I'd want to wear it all day, and won't be ordering a full bottle. Overall, I'd recommend this to anyone looking for a light, clean, fresh floral with an interesting history.

Soon after the opening breeze, the violet starts its perfumed ascend, wrapping everything in a plush, feminine velvet. A baby pink rose hums in the background, rounding it out, giving it a quiet elegance. The freshness fades, giving way to something more poised, more settled—a scent that lingers like a touch of fragrance on vintage silk. I was ready for this to become all powder and nostalgia, but on the next whiff, the freesia stirs again—lifting, brightening, pulling the scent back into the light. It oscillates between soft and fresh, delicate and composed, never quite landing in one place. A fragrance that moves, not loud, not sharp, maybe not the most modern. But beautiful in a way that lingers—not as a statement, but as a token of love for florals.

I purchased it to smell "clean". Not mainstream clean like "Blanche" by Byredo, but classy clean. I have been wearing it for quite a long time and I have no idea what it is. I love it, but physically can't stand it- It is just too much and I suffocate from it (I have this prominant cabbage note open on me) . I am a person that usually likes very strong scents others find annoying. Funny, but this one has the same effect on me. It is a very loud scent, almost like screaming "look how clean I am", not close to the skin. Maybe it is too much for summer- I live in a country with a warm climate. Def a must-have for me thou, wearing it on some occasions when I want to wear nothing. But be careful with it, it is loud. I would even wear it in the evening to a fancy dinner at a restaurant or theatre- it is temperate, classy, and not as loud as other evening scents.

I really like this. It is a more modern take on L'Air du Temps by Nina Ricci which is my mother's signature scent. When I smell this, I am reminded of her, yet it is different enough to be distinguishable: it's like a mother and a daughter :) It must be the freesia note which is in both of them. This starts out with a bright and fresh white floral note, and dries down to something cozy, soft and warm. There is a slightly savoury tang too, which must be the Western Skung Cabbage (no idea what that is haha). I wonder what this smells like layered with something like Dedcool Milk.

Powdery, floral, feminine and very Aldehydic. Upon first application, this was very Aldehydic on my skin (almost like No. 22 from Chanel). Then it dried down into a sharp floral soap scent which was pleasant. The floral notes are like a mish-mash of all sorts of yellow florals and not that specific to freesia (which I find to be very moist and vegetal). It's a skin scent all the way and the only person that can smell this on me is me but it gives me a relaxed, clean, put together feeling so I want this to be my office scent. 7/10 for me.

Very simple, it smells like I've just bathed with an old-school floral bar of soap. It's not a harsh or sharp soap smell, it's not bubbly or aldehydic; it's almost creamy. Very cozy and clean. I was underwhelmed in the beginning but it has grown on me a lot, the simplicity is actually quite calming and I find myself enraptured with how nice my skin smells. Considering a full bottle.

Upon spraying, I got the most fleeting hint of lovely classic florals before it very quickly dried down into...pure soap smell. I do like soapy clean scents, which is why I still like this fragrance, but I am disappointed that more of the florals don’t come out on my skin. I really have to put my nose to it and sniff to get hints of greenery and powdery florals.

Freesia is like clean, soapy, creamy, aldehyde florals. clean yet warm and rich. reminds me of smooth and creamy texture, i guess this is where the nivea creme association comes from (as mentioned by other reviewer). granted, this is not a unique scent, but a very comforting one. more fluffy and classic than other freesia fragrances i have tried.

This perfume makes you smell like a really fancy bar of soap. The florals in this are very sharp, giving you a very squeaky clean smell. I love it because it is non offensive, I particularly like wearing this straight out of the shower or before bedtime. Unfortunately the longevity on this is pretty bad, only lasts 1-2 hours on my skin.

A simple, powdery scent. Very one-note, but if you love soapy smells this one is for you. It doesn’t necessarily come off as “fresh” to me, but has a cuddly feel to it that’s similar to getting into clean sheets after a shower.

not sure what a freesia should smell like but it's light and soapy on me. As if I just got fresh out of a shower and a hint of body wash still lingers. It's nice.

Freesia, I like it but it doesn't smell like the real flower. The perfume is far too strong while the living flower is much more delicate and fresh.

Soapy, floral, powdery, clean. Soft and feminine. I would want nothing more than to fall asleep after a warm bath in this.

A dry, soapy floral scent with a sort of aldehydic sparkle in the opening. An all-natural soap made of homemade tallow mixed with a tightly packed powder of pulverized dry petals. Freesia is the main star but it's supported by an almost equal amount of other florals with a green edge, sitting atop a bed of white musk that both blends everything together and imparts its own fluffy neutrality into the mix. A very vintage floral soap smell. Moderate projection for 2-3hr, longevity 6-8hr.

Extremely fresh and clean floral scent. I know this is labeled as Freesia but on me the Iris and violet notes POPPED right away. I hate calling things "grandma scents" but this has the beautiful aged-perfume smell like its been sitting on your grandma's vanity for a decade, and still smells beautiful. A very mature powdery fresh floral. I wish it lasted longer thought :( Not much sillage at all and I could barely smell it after 3 hours.

Smells nice at first, then it just vanish within half an hour. You need to spray 20 times for anyone else to actually smell it, then reapply every hour, which means like a hundred spray for an entire day, a bottle of 50ml is going to last 1 month of daily spray. I have never empty out a perfume this fast, even jo malone colones last longer. Looking for a substitute with better longetivity. SMN, please make one in higher concentration.

This reminds me of EL White Linen the original mixed with Kenzo Flower. Very aldehydic and powdery. Doesn't smell like freesia at all. Disappointed. It also reminds me of EA True Love. A perfume I liked at first but it started to give me a gagging feeling. Like choaking on a fancy bar of soap and I like Soapy fragrances but not this type. It is overkill.

First impressions: Stuffy. Any appreciation for the initial floral notes I might have is overtaken by a staleness. Then the soapiness comes through, and we're in great-grandma's bathroom. As it dries down that staleness ascends a little, and I'm left with lotion. Nivea. ???

Clean and very sharp smelling. Something like Nivea bodylotion but turning more Elnett hairspray. This scent is for keeping fresh in hot weather. I loved it at first but then started getting annoyed by the sharpness.

Got a tester so I had to check the notes first. It’s better than I expected but not an interesting perfume to buy. 4.510

Do I like freesia? Now I'm not sure. It smells fine up close but when I smell it in the air around me I really dislike this. It reminds me of stale deodorant. Like a very fake flower smell. I guess it is soapy, but I usually like soapy scents, so there's a definite deodorant tinge here which overtakes the soapy/powdery aspects.

I am not exaggerating when I say this sent made me feel carsick. This is an absolute no from me. It’s harsh, screechy, and a headache inducing floral that reminds me of bathroom spray or cheap hand soap. And that is not the fault of freesia the actual flower, it has just been overtaken by soap companies and brings about bad memories. Just really, really bad. Soapy in the worst way. This scent made me nauseous.

I recently purchased a Santa Maria Novella Discovery kit: Acqua della Regina - smells like my favorite Bath Roman Premium Hot Herb Bath Salts (soothing ginger, red pepper, yuzu, etc), but not much the next day, the oddball as the only sample not still shouting 24 hrs later Fresia - a very soapy freesia scent, leaves, potting soil, bright sunshine on a perfect day Rosa Gardenia - that pickled floral that I despise, May roses screeching out for justice, The Perfumers Workshop Tea Rose turned spiteful and pretentious Rosa Novella - wonderfully warm, calm, patchouli-rose. Your mom reading your favorite picture book that you got from the library, a copy that was printed in 1990, after you just did a good job dusting the heirloom hardwood furniture with lemon Pledge. Unrelated to Agent Provacateur (cool-skin rose with warm metallic saffron) or L’Agent (boozey-spicebomb rose). Angeli di Firenze - unripe cantaloupe soap, melon gives my tummy a sinking-feeling Melograno - not what I expected from “pomegranate,” and oakmoss in the ingredients surely helps this become a personal favorite. This pomegranate received the Christmas Orange Ornament treatment and smells like all the best memories. Invokes a bodily response of “everything is going to be alright.” Excellent ally to victory in the battle vs holiday anxiety and car sickness! Tabacco Toscano - delicious, quality vanilla accosted by rubbery hickory smoke Pot Pourri - I was not expecting the Noxema scent, the face cleanser which I once bought to smell simply because it was so soothing and enjoyable, knowing it’s an awful product that has no place in a skincare routine. This is the strongest of the samples and smells just as much like a fresh tub of Noxema 24 hrs later, but now with orange peel demanding attention. 48 hrs later evocative of rose and pine forest and all fae folk who live within. Beautiful, and at no point did I see where this perfume was going.

So fresh, pretty and easy on the nose. You can't fail to like this if you enjoy a soft powdery floral perfume. I've tried a lot of perfumes that aim for this idea, but I find them similar to standard shampoo scent or some sort of tedious peony idea. Fresia starts off pretty and goes on travelling in a pretty direction till it reaches a small, undramatic yet exquisite island called Pretty! I mostly get subtle powdery florals - rose and iris mainly with a touch of Parma Violet cuteness, but the surprise is in this elusive, almost salty damp note. I began to think of fresh wild garlic, growing alongside a river bank in early spring. I was thinking "that's weird, yet nice". I've never heard of Western Skunk Cabbage. Sounds like the name of a grungy band, or a colourful insult hurled at someone British or American?! ( I'm British, Scottish in case any gets offended!) so as it's described here as smelling a bit garlicky, I'm quite pleased with my nose today. Don't let the garlic references worry you though. It just works. Mostly it feels like a combo of powdery prettiness with the underlying fresh clean sweat of a healthy youth. Big like!

I'm testing a sample received while buying myself Muschio Oro in the flagship store in Milan. The saleswoman exclaimed "Lo adorerai!" (= you'll love it) and I sincerely doubted her words: I've always found freesia note screechy, too sharp, and overall unsettling. But I found out that this brand really likes misnaming their scents: Lana (=wool) is a stunningly warm green fig, Melograno (=pomegrenate) is a beautiful clean musk with a hint of patchouli. Fresia here is no exception: no flowers, not freesia at least. This fragrance is delicately soapy, brightened with vintage aldehydes, and an undertone that I find decadently ambiguous: a mix of beeswax and the fresh skin warming in the sun after a swim. A cozy childhood summer in Provence... One that I can only imagine, between a memory and a dream. A light breeze through white bedsheets hanging under the sun. Soft, intimate, pure... what you'd want your imaginary child to smell like. No nasty freesia notes in sight. 20 minutes on my wrist and it's already on my Fragrantica wishlist.

The opening to middle floral accord of Fresia is truly a most pleasant, and fairly accurate ,recreation of the softly sweet, and subtly spiced scent of freesias. Recreating the fragrance of freesia in perfumery is not an easy feat and Santa Maria Novella should be commended for blending such a close approximation. Could the spice of it be slightly more bold? Perhaps, but then again, it would also be easy to overdo that effect as well. After, the freesia fades away, the base is only an average soapy musk; decent, but nothing compared to what came before. ...So then, obviously it would be time to reapply. It's interesting to see Western Skunk cabbage listed in the note pyramid, but its presence remains only subliminal, mercifully so. Presumably, at low concentrations, it serves only to add nuance to the freesia accord.

I still can't believe that this is a single-note perfume. I was looking for a soapy, clean smelling fragrance for myself at home and this is just perfect. I admit that this smells more like an expensive soap than a real freesia, but I still get the delicate flower scent of freesia unlike other reviews. This is so delicate and gorgeous smelling, this makes me feel like I'm having a bath surrounded by white flowers. Longevity is not so great, so I don't usually wear it when I go out or on a date, but it's just so pretty.

Is it truly freesia or is mixed? I need answer from someone who really knows what true freesia flowers smells like, coloured freesia, yellow, pink, orange , bit white, because white is plain . It says green, but freesia is not green, at least not yellow and pink freesia. I am not really interested if the perfume last long or not, if it's perfection or not, I am only interested if it smells like real freesia , nothing else. Thanks

I do not own the fragrance but complaining about short longevity and weak sillage means you don't know about freesia. It is one of the most volatile molecule, it is short living, if you want a long lasting fragrance don't go with freesia, just because long lasting freesia is impossbile to have for chemical reasons. It can be reproduced in lab to make it more long lasting but it's not the same.

There is more than just freesia going on here than what the displayed notes suggest. Freesia is generally sweet, but I find this such a unique floral as it doesn’t really have any of that flowery sweetness to it. Instead of sweetness there’s a soapiness that makes this such an interesting fragrance. Not a safe blind buy because it really challenges all expectations, but really lovely.

This really isn't a freesia. It smells like a soap that they use in very good hotels. To me, it smells a little too citrusy, and I was expecting something that is 100% flowers. The green part disappears rather quickly, but the soapiness of this perfume remains very long. It smells very clean, and I would wear this perfume to smell innocent.

I enjoy this perfume, purchased their full size and also tried their body wash. PS if you like this scent try the korean brand Artois brand body lotion and body wash in the scent SONG , it is IDENTICAL to freesia... and was created by the brand in inspriation from freesia and it is amazing.
