Egnaro

Spicy candied orange sprinkled with anise, ginger ,civet ,coated with Chocolate. Love it.

I've never been a fan of any sort of jam or marmalade with orange as a protagonist. It's not a very common combo anyways, but the few times I had, it just didn't sit well with me. Hence, Egnaro also doesn't please me, as it is basically orange marmalade in fragrance form. And whoever's grandma cooked this one up, I think she might've dropped a little too much sugar. Egnaro opens with a citric squeeze of orange, progressively turning sweeter and less zingy. Soon enough, you get a an orange scent that sits between candied and marmalade, quite intense and vibrant, but also too sweet for my taste. One thing is certain, it definitely smells "orange", both like the fruit and color. Regarding the Civet in the notes pyramid, there's no animalic quality here. At least not in the opening. Under the orange coating, the rest of the scent develops, with the aniseed immediately coming through with its distinct warm, sweet spice. It reminds a little of clove or fennel, or if you've had the chance to taste it, a sweet anise star tea you'd drink at a Christmas festival. It's got a nice, strong flavor, and it kind of fits with the orange, just like the ginger that further enhances the warm, spicy aroma without being too sharp. The base notes struggle to get some of the spotlight, as the orange marmalade sweetness keeps going strong. Some ambery nuances might be spotted; very faint hints of warm vanilla. And the sandalwood adds a touch of dry woodiness. But what I find stronger at the base is some muskiness, which I suppose it could be from the Civet that should switch places with the bergamot in the notes pyramid. Again, no animalic quality, but definitely some warm muskiness that leads the base. Eventually, the orange sweetness dies down a bit, finally finding some balance with the rest of the composition. Yet it's still not enough to save the fragrance of its not-so-stellar blending. Overall, I think it would've benefitted of a less sweet opening and more emphasis on giving it a more grounding base, because once the orange starts fading (but it never completely disappears), you're largely left with soft muskiness and faint spice on the side. Longevity for Egnaro was about 9-10 hours on my skin, with moderate projection. The first hour it held itself steady, never overly strong. Afterwards, it would really soften up, without much pushing power 3 hours in, but still getting mild whiffs of it at times. Skin scent status was achieved somewhere close to 5 hours in. I suppose it's a fairly versatile scent, depending on how much you like to be perceived like a worker at an orange marmalade factory. You could even wear this during the summer despite the sweetness, although maybe more towards dusk. It should be fine for daily wear too, although it doesn't quite strike as a daily, signature scent. Regardless, it's not hard to wear... ...it's just not easy to love either. It's pleasant, but not impressive. It's striking, but awe doesn't last long. And it's plenty sweet at the start, which will either hook you up or make you doubt you want to indulge further. I know in which team I sit. The blending also doesn't convince me, and as a whole, I'd find it hard to recommend for its €185 retail price. So I'm sorry Grandma, but you've got to change the recipe to this marmalade. Egnaro is very spicy with a faint note of sandalwood underlying. The orange and/or bergamot are also less prominent than the spices. I agree with @hatandbeard that Egnaro also smells like cloves. Together with the orange notes, I keep thinking of pomanders. I can wear some men's fragrances, but this is too much for me.

The civet ruins this for me and genders it slightly more towards the masculine. Otherwise, it has the warmth, it has the brightness of ginger and red citrus with a resinous undertone. All which are beautiful aspects. It is very similar to Gender Ginger by Soul Couture, however that one lacks the civet which makes it a much more joyful and bright fragrance. This has more sadness to it somehow.

This is straight up artificial civet, some anise/ginger that has an odd clove-like quality and sweet orange right out of the gate! The spices mix with the citrus over an extremely feral civet as it begins to dry down when the "sandalwood" comes into play. As it progresses the civet starts to subside and is replaced with some generic woods, however it is never completely gone. You really have to love civet and spicy, sweet orange to get into this one. The image it conjures is potentially what you'd be smelling if you were royalty in medieval times using a pomander to mask the smell of the peasants as you gave out alms.

Oranges, anise, & plenty of gingers. I can also sense a metallic note but no civet so far. It's not that pleasant as a blend with that sour spicy anise mix cause it kind of gives that cheap smell although it's kind of a weird mix which makes it sort of unique somehow! but not the lovable unique type. it remains weird. As it calms down, it goes quite animalic and i guess the metallic civit appears once the orange disappears (or maybe stood back). It's quite weird as the raw anise is conquering the scene. It's not a dislike but could bea favorite to someone who likes metallic animalic anise blends.

Civet, the main star here, somewhere between spiced cookie dough and warm Labrador fur, the inside of a horse stable and a jar of still warm orange marmalade. Smells natural, comforting, easy-going, as seen through the eyes of a child before labels got attached to it. Me, I was always comforted by civet, although I've mostly seen it boosted by insolent flowers and spice. Not at all necessary, it turns out. This here paints an idyllic picture, almost a bedtime story, those "animalic" parts can also mean shelter.

Oh, orange peel and fecal note, what a great combination. Weird but so intriguing and good at the same time. Usually fecal notes don't agree with me, but this one and T. Habanero (Rania G.) are the best poop blended concoctions out there that I have tried so far.
