Flame & Fortune

I got my hands on a sample of this, a fragrance I read really positive things about from two professional fragrance writers whose work I respect. Let's just say that Flame & Fortune totally confirms my trusting their opinions. The name is very appropriate: heat of all kinds is a leitmotif. The bouquet of white flowers remind me specifically of that hour immediately after sunset in very hot countries when their fragrance hangs heavy in the air, almost as if it's still pulsating with the daytime sun's warmth. There's the spicy heat of pink pepper and ginger that is very noticeable in this juice. Combined with the citrus, here the combination also has a freshness, a cleanliness; a bit like the olfactory equivalent of a palette-cleanser. So perhaps it's even a little gourmand because it behaves in the nose in much the way good chef's use these as cooking ingredients. Then, as it dries down, it reveals a whole other layer, also fiery. It's not so much the smell of wood or smoke but rather that very clean burning smell that you get from a wood campfire under a clear night sky out in the wilderness while it's still smouldering. This combines beautifully with a note of an aged, not exactly smoky but rather smoke-line aroma you get with certain good tequilas or mezcals. And, yes, there is even a little hint of motor oil. But don't be put off by that: this is a bold fragrance, but it is also a very good one. This slight hint of motor oil isn't in the realms of juices that set out to impress with "whacky" ingredients, but rather how it blends beautifully with the other bass notes that seem familiar but also slightly elusive. This is definitely one that I think will go on the wish list of many who try it. One word of advice for men who might be worried about "feminine" fragrances (whatever that even means), do not be put off by the floral sweetness of the first hit if sampling it. Within ten minutes, those deep bass notes balance this out to what is a truly unisex fragrance.

I LOVE this fragrance. I bought a 15ML of it and just now found a FB at half price. Gorgeous and long lasting. The smokiness stays on my skin for ages. Some reviewers here have indicated that they think the fragrance is dull - I disagree - but can see that it MIGHT be similar to other oriental ambers in a way. But none of those that I have smelled have this supreme smokiness. It lasts and lasts and to me is very distinctive. I think I prefer to wear this in the cooler months, and I can see it being a night time fragrance but also is sophisticated enough to wear during the day. I see it's divisive, but I tend to love divisive fragrances. I wouldn't blind buy this bc of how people perceive this scent. To me, it's an elegant woman, tall and thin, with perhaps a 1920s style dress, long gloves and a cigarette holder. She is smoking. I could also imagine a dapper man, perhaps with a scarf around his lapels wearing this. If you hate smokiness skip this because the flame element is really strong in this fragrance. To me the scent and the longevity make it at least a 9,5/10

impressions: hot and cold, sweet and bitter, almost mentholated bubblegum white floral details: long lasting and powerful fragrance with an addictive sillage and combination of icy and hot notes. on paper, there are no "cold" notes but this is the impression i have - it's a cold smoke, the scent of something charred on ice. perhaps this is the white florals and petigrain playing against the liquor, ginger, pink peppercorns and "fire" note. fragrantica is missing a few notes as well - mezcal, motor oil and burnt wood. i think the motor oil note lends this nose tickling mentholated quality that keeps things so darn interesting. to me this is neither sweet nor savoury, but a friend commented on its sweetness, so i think it's a shapeshifter and definitely one to test! i'll be getting a full bottle, it’s so addictive and makes me feel like going to a bar for a strong cocktail, even when I’m sitting at my desk at midday.

Oh sweet, juicy, flame charred red capsicum! This is deliciously intoxicating. And smokey! I could not stop smelling myself. One spray on clothing lasted all day, all night, and into the next day. It might still be there if I hadn't done laundry. I see this as the signature scent of rebellious people everywhere. Suitable for all radical events. Pot luck dinners at the Anarchist Bookstore. Protesting yet another unjustified police killing. Another night of spray painting “all property is theft” on banks that got bailed out while we lost homes and jobs. Wear Flame and Fortune as you watch the whole stinking, corrupt, system burn to the ground. Gloriously. It's a great big LOVE from me. NB This is a perfume review, not a manifesto.

I love this. It manages to be edgy and wearable. I wear this with my leather jacket and feel like a badass. The bold florals complement and balance the notes of smoke, fire and motor oil. It feels a bit dusty at times too, in a pleasant way. The (clean) motor oil note is prominent on my skin for the whole time I'm wearing it, until about 5 hours when it gives way somewhat to amber. I wore it yesterday on my bike in the cold weather and kept getting good whiffs of it throughout the day. Good performance. This fragrance feels like the romanticization of a mechanic. It's rugged, beautiful and soot-stained but there's somehow nothing dirty about it.

Tuberose from Flame&Fortune it is verry feminine powedery floral touch. I can wear this perfume anytime... I tested it in the middle of the day now in the summer when it's hot after half a day of driving and doing various activities. The freshness of neroli and the powdery foral finesse together with the smell of diesel (from the car) were perfectly combined. It's a tuberose to my taste.

Flame & Fortune - what a terrific scent. To my nose, I immediately got a fresh, almost bubble gummy smell and loved it right away. Such a stunning fragrance and love at first sniff. Gorgeous drydown and has a very beautiful notes of Orange Blossom, Tuberose, Jasmine and a hint of smoke. Well done Sarah and this is such a hit.

oh, wow! be still my Tuberose-loving heart. This is one saucy little novel tuberose scent. I get the slightly smoky, almost fiery flower in an indolic and mentholated manner. Yes, it’s sweet, but floral-sweet not candy. This is a fleshy and feisty tuberose. Fun, definitely will get you noticed, and long lasting.

This is the olfactory equivalent of the expression 'sweating like a hooker in church'. There is the booze from yesterday night, faint notes of dry and smokey olibanum incense burning on the altar and a hot and sweaty carnal tuberose accord. Great perfume to wear in sweltering heat.

One of the most juicy tuberose, neroli/orange blossom, with a hint of smoke. If you like neroli you will LOVE this one. It has that kind of addictive blend and very good thing, it doesnt cost un arm and a leg. Highly recommended.

Super floral, would definitely wear this all the time myself. Smoky and warm, would wear for all occasions really. It smells like confidence, anytime of the year, could work really well for any kind of business x

the opening is floral and rubbery, like the putty dentists use to make dental impressions. this softens into a pleasant, creamy orange blossom. ~4 hours after applying, some savory oregano (or perhaps the pepper?) notes appear. on my skin it smells like soup broth. deeply unserious perfume

15ml bottle reviewed $34 edp Orange blossom, pink pepper, apricot, ginger, mandarin petitgrain, lily of the valley, iris, jasmine, tuberose, motor oil, labdanum, embers, mezcal. Imagine a pile of florals with motor oil and mezcal poured over them, set aflame with charred leathery apricot, cool smoke from a blue flame with the florals tamped down from the firey smoke. Thats it in a nutshell. Its close to the body with minimum sillage. It performs better on paper than the skin. I wish this had gone full throttle on this idea with big roaring florals and smoke. It seems reversed here. It just doesnt have enough oomph to get over the hump. I will say I had great layering ideas with Hyde and Le Lion. Its an oriental floral that simmers on low. A bit pricy for the experience but if your into these types of fragrances, do check it out.

I waited a really long time to review this, because I wanted so badly to love it and I was hoping it would grow on me. It’s a warm yet sharp white floral that’s more sawdusty than smokey. Sadly it’s just not my cup of tea

Flame & Fortune smells like the shivery thrill of the chase and obsession for something elusive and rare, a chimera whispered on the wind, a mirage glimpsed in moonlight– and the inevitable reckoning at the end of this road of reckless desires. A charred diary page retrieved from the incendiary blast of a midnight explosion under the desert stars. Illegible script, a puzzle of ashy smudge in a swooping desperate hand, the labyrinthine cipher of a faded map whose details are lost to dust and sand, an exquisitely-detailed botanical revelation of a night-blooming flower both intoxicating and terrifying, the softly spiced mysteries of which might be a deadly curse, might be a cure for all the world’s ills. The dawn bleeds like an accusation, like a bullet wound, like a dying breath, and in that final inhalation, orange blossom, tuberose, jasmine, the fragrant honey of buds unfurling in the rising heat of the morning. The wind rustles with the fading memory of that sweetness as the sun rises where betrayal saw you fall.

Wont bother going into the notes,, they are already done and you can read for yourself.. Out of all the fragrances in the discovery kit this is the one that leapt out to both myself and my wife.. 100% unisex, pretty unique and a great fragrance,, highly recommend this and Sarah Baker perfumes overall,, she is not afraid to try something different and there is bound to one or two you like.

Read every reviews here mentioning the motor oil accord, but on my skin that was nowhere to be seen. Flame & Fortune is a bubblegum-y tuberose, not too cloying or sweet but rather effervescent and oh so fruity, like a sweet grape soda. There is also a touch of powdery orange blossom on the back that is very nice. Not that unique but the blend is nice.

Warming, spicy, a little bit boozy, Flame & Fortune dances in the air like a crackling flame. The white florals are beautifully balanced and there’s a soft powdery quality, but not too much, just enough for it to smell clean. I love the apricot mixed with tuberose and pink pepper; the sillage is laced with these notes and it smells divine.

this is simply cool. i get the alcohol/ motor oil. but there is undoubtedly a bubble gummy tuberose at the forefront along with this burst of gas.. makes me wish i was driving through death valley to vegas.
