Perfect Veil

When I was a teen and into my early twenties, I wore a perfume called skin musk. It always drew compliments. But skin musk has been cheapened significantly by reformulation and now smells too synthetic. A perfect veil is like a quality version of skin musk. PV is a clean, baby powerish, musk scent. Its vanilla and sandalwood notes are evident, but the ultimate result is that of a powdery musk. Its pretty powerful as well. I think one spray would do me as it has wonderful projection for such a simple scent. Overdo this perfume and you run the risk of smelling like you have just spent the day changing babies diapers. Sometimes you need simplicity in your wardrobe and this fits the bill. Plus I love musk so much. And I love that clean smell that wafts around your presence, and have people guessing....is it your hair? your lotion? Because it cant be a perfume! PV is not perfumey, yet it has amazing sillage and lasting power. Sort of an oxymoron. It is recommended that this perfume can be layered. I personally wouldnt do that. Even though PV is simple, it still is potent and has character all on its own. Some people find it smells like babys diapers, and yeah I get that... but I think its just that baby powdery, clean aura it has that gives this impression. Overall, if you love musk. And dont mind powdery fumes, this is a must try.

I will most likely always have this perfume in my wardrobe. It's such a soft, fluffy, warm comfy scent. Very cloud like to me. A bit like a buffer from anything harsh. This is soft, powdery, almost perfection to me. ( I prefer Sonoma Scent Studios Opal for this genre but if you can't find it~this is the next best thing!) I don't get the lemon, bergamont, per say on my skin. On me these notes just serve to lift the composition out of what could have been a dusky muddy vanilla sandalwood musk mess. Instead~these bring this lovely fragrance into a place of soft,diffused light. I can see kids saying~your mom always smells good! Or being known as the one who always smells warm & fresh at the office. It would be a perfect everyday signature scent for someone who's busy and around people quite a lot as it's nonoffensive and yet leaves a lovely impression. I find this far from forgetable. It makes it's own,soft (again),approachable, trustworthy impression. Truly ~not only a blanket of comfort for the one wearing it but also for the one smelling it.

I remember the first time I got a small sample of this, years ago, so excited to try it and SURE I would love it. I hated it! It smelled dusty, dingy, and so old-fashioned, I couldn't get it off my skin fast enough! Fast forward a good 15 or so years later, I received another sample of it in an order from Sarah, and I adored it! So funny how our tastes change over the years, and a good reminder to re-visit some of those fragrances from the past you thought you hated! I've come to love musk, and find Perfect Veil to be a really comforting, pretty, super easy to wear everyday musky perfume. The french vanilla gives it a hint of sweetness: this is a clean musk rather than raunchy (though I like the latter category just as well if not more!). I love wearing Perfect Veil to bed, as well as work - it's one I reach for when I need a perfume "hug". It's so lovely, and the fact it's lasted this long in a sea of musk perfumes speaks volumes! If you love clean musks with a bit of sweetness I highly recommend!

I've been wearing Perfect Veil on and off for 15 years or so. . . I started with the little oil roller and have graduated to the EdP. It is very powdery which is not my usual thing. But it is just damn good. The lemony musk with the pleasant powder dry down lasts a long time but it does not scream. It stays close to the skin. I don't feel like there is a perfume cloud around me (I can't believe there are people that WANT a cloud of scent around them - that sounds like hell to me) - it's just there, lightly on the skin, allowing you to forget it, sniff your wrist and smell it again. Sigh, Inhale. Exhale. It's cozy - a perfect nap fragrance. I will always have it in my collection. After all these years, I prefer this scent over many other more expensive, more hyped "your skin but better" fragrances. It is a reliable, easy reach, fun-to-wear pleasant perfume that just makes a person feel good.

Need a scent that can fly under the radar when your workplace bans fragrances? Want to smell good but not attract attention by smelling too perfume-y? Didn't have time for a shower before work today but don't want anyone to know? Perfect Veil is the perfect scent for all three of these occasions! Definitely a "your skin, but better" scent. I had no idea this was released in 1999. These types of scents are more common now but I bet this was downright revolutionary at the time it was released. It is pleasant, clean but not soapy, fresh but not aquatic, sweet but not fruity. The company's website suggests it as a layering "base" for other fragrances, and I can see how it would enhance just about any other scent you might apply. It can also stand on its own as a light perfume for daytime. Decent longevity, acceptable sillage for a scent in this category, and just plain nice!

So glad I gave this one a try, it will join my permanent collection as a must-have. As many others have said, it lies very close to the skin, a great after-shower, innocent, clean and light scent. The citrus top does not overpower, and neither does the musk. Just such a well-blended and balance fragrance. Update: I have read that there are two formulations of this fragrance, which seems to be supported by two versions also on this site with slightly differing compositions. I now own two versions myself. The FB I ordered is significantly more 'musky' (think "Skin Musk") than the decant previously ordered from a (reputable) fragrance sample site. I much prefer the older version.

Perfect veil is a more traditional way of dressing up white musk. Juicy top notes of lemon give it lift and keep it from becoming to linear. But in the end this is a very pretty vanilla and sandalwood warmed up white musk. I really like Sara Horowitz perfumes. They are quite traditional but offer a fresh take on tradition. If you like classic feminine white musk fragrances you will love this. I am going to send some samples of this and The Now to my mom. I think she would love them both. For the true musk lover.

I wear this scent when I don't know what to wear, or after a bath before going to bed. It truly is a skin scent, and just keeps getting better the longer it's on. It reminds me of a soft sweater, or a warm towel fresh from the dryer; soft and lovely.

It's my go to scent, it's soft and sweet, clean and not offensive but comfey. It is also musky but not the strong type, the vanilla and touch of lemoney sweetness seems to balance it out really nicely with some powderyness.

I am so glad I own this perfume! It is sensual and beautiful I wore this to go to out with my husband and the first thing he said you "smell so good sweetheart " Its long lasting with soft sillage!!

The almost perfect scent for me...a comforting, soft, sophisticated, but very sensual skinscent. Maybe it will become my signature scent...

Goes to show you the difference skin chemistry can make. Some reviewers said this was an exact duplicate of Skin Musk. Not for me it isn't, pre-formulation 2010 or otherwise. The difference for me is the vanilla and the quality of the ingredients. I would say the ratings for main notes above are accurate. I have both the oil and eau de parfum. This starts with a slight citrus note in which the sandalwood joins 2 minutes later, then the citrus fades. The sandalwood is the variety of having spicy, coconut-y, and vanilla tones to it, almost cinnamon like. Vanilla and musk come in a little later and by then the scent gets warmer and deeper. It stays that way for the duration. This makes this wonderful to use as a base for other scents. Not a lot of sillage when wearing this alone, maybe two feet away, but people that hug me sigh once they smell this and linger a little longer. The scent is comforting. Longevity is all day with the oil. The mini roll on can last for months and a little goes a long way. Just a *touch* to the pulse points, work into the skin, and you're all set. This, plus the quality of the ingredients, plus the ability to wear with other scents to make them deeper, warmer, or last longer, makes the price point worth it for me. It really is *perfect*!! Won't be without this in my collection.

I tried a sample of the oil, not the fragrance so my experience is a bit different but want to give my impression. At first application, sweet and comforting. As it dried down, less sweet, I could smell the sandal and bergamot notes coming out. Slightly soapy smelling. I can't say I smell any lemon. I can see it being a great fragrance for someone wanting something light and non-offensive. Not unique enough nor does it remind me clean naked skin. I think if it had less bergamot and more musk, then it'd be fantastic and purchase worthy.

oh my goodness! this fragrance is beautiful and nostalgic for me. I don’t know if my grandma wore this or something like it, but it takes me back to being a kid and smelling this scent profile on one of my caregivers. it’s powdery and musky, and smells like a safe warm hug. it makes me think of a fluffy white blanket. I also get Missing Person vibes. I definitely get vintage vibes, but it literally came out in 1999 so that tracks! however, it doesn’t come off as extremely dated. I wouldn’t assume it was a 90s perfume!

On me, the opening is jumping headfirst into a jasmine bush is vigorous bloom, then it settles into a powdery vanilla that lasts forever. A bit too powdery for me most of the life of the scent. The final phase is a gorgeous well-blended vanilla. There's a hint of musk instead of being Overtly Musky, and it's vaguely woody without being Obviously Sandalwood. Lovely on its own or as a base layer because of the longevity.

This is lovely, soft and powdery. My sample went on citrusy, sweet and powdery and dried down to a comforting, sheer beautiful soft musky powder. To me, this is what a powder scent should be. It wears very close to the skin so is good for personal enjoyment. It is a bit pricey but is a well-blended fragrance --- I am considering a purchase and will continue to test.

It opens with an oily burst of lemon and vanilla. Quickly the musk shows up. The lemon fades and the vanilla extends the light musk scent. I received a sample today. I'm more of a spicy girl, but I can appreciate that this scent would be great for those who like a clean, light musk, but a bit different. A man who likes a light musk, should try this as well.

A simple, clean but not soapy, powdery-vanilla musk. Very much like baby powder. Easy to wear although some might be put off by smelling a bit like a freshly cleaned and powdered baby's bottom. I find it a comfort scent and prefer wearing it to bed. It seems there are a few similar scents out there these days, so not mind-blowingly original, but nice.

I am looking for something warm and skin-scented and this is a nice, clean scent. I do not like the way my skin responds to sandalwood so I wasn’t sure about this at first - within three hours it wore off and settled in. I get more bergamot and lemon than I do powder.

A dry sandalwood with a sweet citrus open and vanilla to round out. Dries down too complex and loud to be considered a skin-scent in my book. A little bit scratchy. Very interesting stuff.

Perfect Veil is a powdery, quietly musky scent that blends well with others as a base layer.

This is stinky at first spray. Like, I didnt spray the other wrist because I was convinced I'd hate it-- powdery and heavy and overwhelming. However, after the dry down it's really pleasant! Musk is "white" and not overpowering. Sandalwood is noticeable, and vanilla is a sub note, not cloying. I find myself smelling that one wrist. I'm not in love with it, but I also don't have anything like it.

Interesting perfume. It's on the edge of clean and a bit dirty musk. It's not one of those squeaky clean white musks... It's pretty warm, fluffy... not 100% crowd pleaser though. Best use- after warm bath, when hair is dry, clean and warm, silk pijamas and 1-2 sprays on hair and belly. Now you're ready to spent some time if your lovely bed with laptop :)

Yep, it's a powdery musk. The tiniest bit of sweetness and a dose of down feather dust. I don't detect notable citrus or vanilla, just a bit of floral. It's fine, but boring. This sample is going in my sell pile.

Every once in awhile you smell a perfume that is such a blatant rip off of another that it boggles the mind. I'm not talking about a perfume that borrows just the same structure or general accords, I'm talking about a 100% duplicate. Perfect Veil is Skin Musk (any formulation pre 2010) repackaged and sold for more money. The only difference is that Skin Musk has now been reformulated and stripped of its potency. So, if you like Skin Musk but want more sillage and don't mind paying more for a drugstore smell alike, Perfect Veil is your jam. Does it smell nice? Absolutely. Its a linear, powdery musk with a bit of vanillic woody base and light citrus top notes. Is it worth $75 for 50ml? Not to me.

What I've read about it is that it's supposed to smell fresh, sheer, clean, but I find it surprisingly cloying. It has elements of old-ladyish rosewater, not the rose part just the sweetish stale powder thing, plus a little bit of plastic. I've also seen it described as a "your skin, but better" scent and in this instance, that description reads as 'not unique'. Because it isn't - it's been done. There's great news for anyone who likes "Perfect Veil": this *exact* scent is available for a fraction of the cost and it's called "Love's BabySoft."

Hmmmm.... I don't know. The tagline says it's designed to reveal the unique beauty of an individual's body chemistry. So I'm not sure what that says about me except I don't like my own unique beauty. This isn't bad, but it's not how I want a perfume to smell. Everyone's right about the baby powder element, which is just not for me. The powdery-ness also reminds me of Dove deodorant with a touch of vanilla and musk. I guess if the goal is to smell fresh and clean, this could be a win.

This is very powdery in a baby powdery way. I can't decide if this smells more like a kindergarten teacher or a kindergartener. Unfortunately I'm not a fan of the way Sarah Horowitz uses vanilla - the vanilla in this and the vanilla in Perfect Vanilla smell distinctly plasticky and synthetic on my skin.

PHEW. Perfect Veil is perfectly fine on paper, but a heady monstrosity on my skin. Immediate scrub.

Perfect Veil is something comfy and slightly generic(still in a good way). It starts with something tingling and refreshing. I guess it is due to the lemon and bergamont, but actually I cannot smell anything significantly citrus. Soon it turns into something softer, sweeter,powdery and soapy. I can smell something vanilla and the musk is nice here. It reminds of Baby by Harajuku Lovers(for the clean baby powder smell) plus Sharlima (for the oriental bit, sensual and warm). The dryout is sweeter and more powdery. Like a comfy blanket. However, personally I find this a little bit overwhelming due to the powderness, and it is hot summer now. So I guess it would be really nice to wear in a cooler weather.

Perfect Veil is a soft, cuddly, comforting and pleasant scent. It is slightly powdery and sweet, very gentle and reminds me of a clean and fluffy pure white cotton blanket. The scent opens with a touch of lemon and musk. Then as it develops, the slight sweet and powdery notes of vanilla and musk come to the surface. The scent is light but it lasts for hours. The soft sandalwood scent in the base notes is very comforting. This is a nice scent all around. Light and unobtrusive, it is definitely can be used in the situation when heavy scents are not acceptable. I find it to be a bit plain for my taste but I did enjoy wearing a sample. Overall score 7/10.

It's a much pricier version of Parfums de Coeur Skin Musk without the longevity or sillage of Skin Musk. Why would you bother paying this much more? That said, this does what it says it's going to do.....wrap you in a perfect veil of powdered musk and clean laundry coziness. The least animalic musk I have ever tried, it reminds me of a dry armpit touched with antiperspirant. It's what you wear to a job where you're not allowed to wear perfume. People will think this is just how a clean and deodorized YOU smells. The packaging looks more elegant than Skin Musk. Meh, whatever. This is pretty but I will save my pennies.

This one was my go-to purse fragrance for days when I could not start out with perfume due to meetings or doctor's appointments. I tried it in the spray but bought it in roll-on oil. It is pleasant, sweet and musky, with a floral note that separates it from a similar fragrance from Les Marais du Bain. I finally got to the point that it was just too simple a fragrance. This would have been great as a body lotion, but I want more complexity from my perfume.

Definitely reminds me of Skin Musk (was made by Bonne Bell, I believe it's now under Parfums de Coeur). I like Skin Musk better, not only for the price point but it also has more sillage. Perfect Veil is almost TOO soft for me. Very pleasant smelling though. Today I am pairing it with another lightweight fragrance, 4711. The lemon and bergamot in 4711 pairs up rather well with Perfect Veil.

Clean, creamy fragrance that reminds me of baby wipes. Nothing offensive about it, perfect for the office. On the other hand, its nothing spectacular. It doesn't draw me in or compel me to use it again. Still, if clean and fresh is your style give it a try. Edit: Hmmm lately I have been liking my sample of this one. It is nice and clean and fresh which I am enjoying lately.

Beautiful & Soft. Pretty much like everyone else has said. It's SOOO light tho. I have Skin Musk & always have over the years, usually to layer. If you like very soft vanilla, I say go for PV. Skin Musk is stronger on me & def more musk. I prefer Clean "Skin", by Clean over both. I think this is way overpriced since it's barely there.

My first impression of this fragrance was lemon-scented baby wipes. Not a true lemon, but muted and soft. The scent then went powdery very quickly, reminding me a lot of powder-scented anti-perspirant. Pretty inoffensive and generally pleasant I suppose, but not something I'm drawn to.

Office friendly sweet musk on a vanilla base. Citrus is present in the opening only. I can’t imagine anyone hating on Perfect Veil. Although it’s not groundbreaking it’s pleasant and easy to wear with nothing unnatural or synthetic.

Is this the same as the Biography Scents of Self version? That is the only one I have been able to find and don't need another blind-buy failure sitting in my closet. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

On me, Perfect Veil smells like custard, but it's not a cloying smell. It's soft and cozy. It's a comfort scent with good sillage and staying power. I can't smell the citruses at all.
