Ebony in Oak

Wow this is unbelievably good. I was lucky enough to purchase a 95% full bottle at half price and this is one of my best blind buys to date (I actually tested on a paper strip at Perfumology in Philly a couple weeks ago but after having tested many many other perfumes so my nose was very overwhelmed and I could barely smell this although I think I enjoyed it?) Heed the warnings below - this juice will certainly stain your skin blue! DO NOT spray on clothing or anywhere near it because it will definitely stain. I don’t care about the color of the juice being so dark and the fact that it stains my skin blue because this smells so damn good. Leathery with suede, aromatic, spicy and just overall such an amazing fragrance. Totally unisex too but probably leaning a bit masculine. This 75ml bottle will last a while because this stuff is very strong too! I sprayed my arm once about two hours ago and I’m constantly getting wafts of this as I walk around and clean my apartment. 9.5/10!!

Love at first spray. So many scents make me curious, or are pleasant, but when you spray and the first thought is "damn, that's good!" that's something special. I want to date myself so I can snuggle up to a partner wearing this scent! This scent gives me a bit of nostalgia or deja vu. I can't place where I've smelled something like it before. It does have cedar and cardamom like Cedar in Acacia, but in a warmer, darker, more enveloping scent. Like one of those days when you walk outside at 4PM and expect to see an afternoon but it's so cloudy it feels like nighttime, it's dark but still airy. I do get the similarities to Ombre Leather, but it's less obvious and more unisex leather. The suede is subtle but makes it so smooth and elegant. It's not really too mysterious. When you meet this handsome stranger, you know what you're in for.

First of all, and my only real complaint, is that this juice is very blue. Where I sprayed it onto my wrist and hand makes it appear to be bruised. I would not put this on clothing. Other than that this one was surprisingly good especially since I usually stray away from anything with saffron in it. The saffron calms down after about 10 minutes and then the ebony really shines. It would take some serious balls to rock this in any weather warmer than 45 degrees. I, myself am a pretty big fan of this house overall and I’d definitely place this one toward the top in my hierarchy for Scents of Wood.

This juice will stain your skin blue, but damn does it smell good! Good thing it’s a fall/winter scent, as you wouldn’t want this stuff anywhere near light colored clothing. Now that I’m reading the other reviews, I see that’s the first thing everyone else points out. It’s just that obtrusive. I don’t understand why a company would make something that you have to be afraid to spray on fabric and may even leave an weird stain on your wrist. I get it if the coloration is simply a result of the natural materials used in the fragrance. I’m skeptical, but maybe that’s the case here.

I really enjoyed Scents of Wood and wanted to delve further into this house and this gem stood out. After two hours, I actually smelled it with the oud and cedar but also faint smell of blueberries for some reason. My current daily driver is Gris Charnel and this feels like it's a distant cousin as it's sweeter and less boisterous but no less a fun wear. Looking forward to getting a full bottle at some point. I don't have light skin, so while I noticed the color when I sprayed it...there was no issue for me with it staining my skin visibly.

I love this more every time I wear it (and the colder the weather gets). It is definitely a little sweet, but as it dries down, it becomes very smoky on my skin -- almost "I stood next to a campfire" smoky, but in a good way. The cacao adds an interesting twist to what is otherwise a very wood-forward scent and puts me in a slightly holiday mindset for some reason. The silage and longevity are pretty enormous. I'm rapidly going through my 10ml from the subscription and am definitely considering a full bottle.

From the 25-30 samples I tried from scents of wood, this and Papyrus in Acacia stood out the most to me. Such an addicting fruity, woody, leathery scent. Projection is not great and longevity is about 5 hours at best, but sadly that is the story with pretty much all scents of wood offerings. Surprised this one isn't more popular

Soft, sweet, woody, and fruity. It smells like berries (blueberries?) sitting in a bowl made from ebony wood and it so pleasant. Delicious, rich, and luscious. Perfectly unisex. This is so beautiful and unique.

There's something deep, purple, and berry-like about this. Like a dark red wine. It is ultimately a warm smoky/spicy cardamom with prominent deep woods with a sprinkling of sweetness and decadence from the cacao and tonka. The saffron lends an effervescent quality. It dries to a smouldering incense-type smell, but the smoke isn't suffocating or sickly. This is an Autumn/Winter fragrance without a doubt! Despite it's appearance and intense note listing, it's not too overbearing and doesn't last as long as you might think - I got about 3 hours out of it before I felt like it needed another spray to top up. The juice is blue/black and will stain skin and clothes, so be mindful of that. I associate the color deep purple with with fragrance. It leans a teeny bit masculine to me and would be great on a man. Overall a very nice one from Scents of Wood - I absolutely love this house. I own Praline In Maple and it's one of my favorite scents of all time.

I mainly get dark berries, like blackberry and currant, and rich ebony woods. There's not a lot of complexity because the woody aspect muddles the other notes. However, this is a uniquely dark and mysterious scent. Please note that the juice is blueish black and cannot be sprayed near clothing since it would stain it. Smell: 8 out of 10 Longevity: 8 out of 10 Unisex, leaning slightly masculine For reference, I'm female.

Such a beautiful and unique scent! It starts out a bit sweet with underlying smokiness, not the bonfire type of smoke, more like the second hand smoke from a smoker. I have a hard time pinpointing which note the sweetness is from. Highly recommend everyone to try this out! Great for all genders

This is woodsy and sweet but the warmth of the saffron and suede make it more leathery. I don't get cacao, but there is a fruity-berry aspect that I can't place. Going to rate this as a summer fragrance in addition to the fall and winter ones. It's giving girly cowboy. The perfume itself is dark blue and looks like a bruise when I spray it on my skin. You have to rub it in quickly or else it stains. I don't like this at all and it is pushing me away from keeping it. Also very evocative of the Mac shadescents line. I can't place which one specifically, but a suede note is used in a number of them and it smells like the exact same suede note.

Tom Ford Tuscan Leather. These Fordish leather notes became so annoying cliche

I’ve never been the first to review something! This needed a rave under it, I am floored by this scent. This house has yet to disappoint or at least intrigue me with these fragrances. If the story of Lord of the Rings had a scent, this could be it. Aged wooden tables, goblets of wine, elven magic, and forest berries. First, a warning. This juice is deep opaque blue black, it must have a dye in it? It will immediately stain your skin navy blue, I’m sure clothes would be the same. I tried to spray it and spread it thin quickly, your skin will be colored no matter what you do. Application will be tricky and I think that is a major con from this line- Oud in bourbon is the same but deep army green and less staining. The tone of this fragrance is deep and dark, moody. Sturdy velvety wood — although cedar is listed, there is no squeaky shrill hamster cage impression. This is one of the first fragrances I’ve tried where the wood is the TOP half, and in the base lies a slightly sweet plummy/wine/mead accord (tonka & geranium combining perhaps? Feels a bit redcurrent-y). Delightfully blended and synthesized between phases, the drydown is reminiscent of an incense-laden new age shop. Perfectly unisex, although I’d say it leans just the slightest bit, as there is a specific whimsical quality and softness. PS they make a candle too.

I’m actually impressed. Maybe it’s that my tastes are speed running categories, maybe I’ve finally smelled enough wood, leather, and tobacco to actually start enjoying some. Whatever the case, this is a fabulous fruity leather. The fruit is bright and sweet, reminding me a lot of raspberry. But the blend is very nice, only strengthened by that fact I was expecting an assault of my senses based on the name. Ebony and saffron are usually a big no for me, and I’m not big on oak, either. It doesn’t have that disturbingly pungent animalic darkness other ebony notes give me. It’s still not me now, and I don’t love that the juice is a very dark blue. But hey, never say never, right? I think this beats Tom Ford’s take on fruit leather.

I ordered a dozen scents in wood samples from ministry of scent. My ebony in oak sample is crystal clear and has no detectable scent. I saw such great reviews on yt but hadn't paid attention to the juice color. Reading through the reviews about a strong enough blue color to stain clothes, mine is definitely not this. Looks like straight perfumers alcohol but doesn't even have a strong alcohol smell in the opening. Just nothing really. My rain on Oak and fig in oud however, are fantastic! Disappointed this one is somehow flawed, I was looking forward to it.

As it heads from the bottle to the skin, I get whiffs of tonka, but it hits my arm in a brightly colored blue green slick and smells like pure Ruh Khus vetiver, and doesn't change forever. I don't get any of the notes really, but the melange smells just like a Ruh Khus essential oil I have, right down to the alarming green liquid. But the smell is great: dark, smoky woody incensey mystery. But it will stain light clothes.

A slightly sweeter ombre leather with a bit of rose. This is really nice.
